Easter bunnies bringing good luck! Master class on sewing a tilde rabbit and clothes for it with your own hands.

For all their simplicity, primitive rag dolls amaze with their beauty and charm. They are sold at fairs, given to each other and sewn to order.

Today this type of needlework is at the peak of popularity - people of all ages create dolls in the image of people and animals. You can sew a Tilda rabbit with your own hands in one evening, using our step-by-step master class with a pattern and photo as a basis. The instructions describe sewing a small lop-eared hare and removable clothes for it.

Preparing materials for needlework

For this cute Tilda rabbit, 35 cm high, you will need:

  • linen fabric,
  • colored scraps for clothes,
  • sewing threads,
  • beads for eyes,
  • buttons,
  • scissors,
  • padding polyester for stuffing;
  • neck machine.

Traditionally, primitives are sewn by hand, so you can even do without a machine. If you don't know anything about primitive dolls, take a look at.

Beige linen is best suited for sewing toys. If desired, you can obtain the desired shade from white fabric using coffee according to the recipe used in.

Pattern making and cutting

First, make a pattern. The first three photos show a life-size rabbit pattern. Save the images to your computer and print them on A4 sheets. If this is not possible, then simply draw the details by eye. Open the images in new tabs to see them in full size and get an idea of the scale of each blank.

The next photo shows what parts of the toy and costume should be made. Cut out all the elements and start sewing Tilda in the form of a funny rabbit that brings good luck.

Step-by-step master class on sewing a primitive rabbit

Using paper patterns, trace all parts of Tilda on the material, folded in half: legs, arms and torso of the hare. Pin the parts with pins so that the canvas does not move.

Without cutting out the component parts, stitch them along the outlined outline. Then cut out 0.5 cm from the line.

On all parts, make cuts in the form of triangles or notches in rounded places. This will help eliminate tension and deformation at the seams. For fabrics that fray along the cut, you can use a double stitch to prevent the seams from unraveling.

Turn out all the parts of the rabbit using a pencil or knitting needle. Stuff all the blanks with synthetic padding and sew up the sections tightly, being as careful as possible.

Make Tilda hare ears in the same way using two shades of linen. Sew them, turn them inside out and iron them.

Fold the edge of the body down. Then insert the legs and use a measuring tape to check their length. If it is different, shorten the longer leg by moving it higher.

Carefully sew the arms to the body, the ears to the head.

Mark the places for the eyes and sew beads on these places. Instead of beads, you can embroider identical eyes using simple stitches. Sew on a nose from the scrap. Create a revitalizing glow on your cheeks with our blush.

Now you can sew clothes for the Tilda rabbit - a shirt and pants. Cut the front and back of the trousers the same - they are no different. Finish the bottom of the pants with contrasting fabric; you can make pockets out of it.

Sew the straps for the pants from two strips 5 cm wide and 17 cm long. Sew beautiful buttons onto the overalls. Sew them lengthwise, return and iron.

It is more difficult to sew a shirt for a bunny - the collar will need to be made separately and then sewn to the product. At the end the sleeves are sewn on. It’s good if you already have experience in sewing doll clothes, but if not, then this will be an opportunity to learn.

We hope that your Tilda rabbit turned out even more beautiful. Primitive toys are unique, because each of them contains magical power invested by the master and his love. No less interesting are those created without a needle.

Be sure to choose days for creativity when you are in a good mood to pass it on to your rag talisman!

Among Tilda's toys there are a variety of characters - girls, angels, sleepy angels, fairies, bears, cats, snails..., but one of the most popular is the Tilda rabbit.

To create a toy you will need:

Plain fabric for the body (calico, chintz, cotton or linen);

Fabric for the inner surface of the ears (can be checkered or polka dot - to match the clothes);

Fabric for sewing clothes (to your taste, it is advisable that it matches the color of the body at least a little);

Material for stuffing (it is best to take holofiber - buying it today is not a problem, but padding polyester or synthetic padding is also suitable);

Regular threads in the color of the fabric;

Embroidery thread (floss) or acrylic paint;

A simple pencil or a special pencil for fabric (in this case, it is best to take a disappearing one so that there are no marks left on the fabric, or there is no need to wash the product later);

Scissors (preferably tailor's and zig-zig, but regular sharp ones for fabric are also possible);

Sewing needle;

Thick cardboard or paper (depending on how you prefer to work with patterns);

Sewing machine (you can also sew the toy by hand).

Tilda rabbit pattern is taken as a basic, standard one, it is advisable not to make changes to it (unless you are an experienced sewing master and are firmly confident in the final result).

A brief schematic sequence of work is perfectly shown in the following figure.

So here we go!

Transfer the outlines of the drawing onto thick cardboard to create a pattern. If you no longer need the pattern, you can make it on plain paper; just attach the sheet to the monitor and carefully trace all the details.

Lay out the fabric with the wrong side facing you. Using a pencil, trace all the cardboard pieces for the body onto the matching fabric, the inside of the ear onto the plaid or polka dot fabric, and the clothing pieces onto the colored fabric.

If you are using plain paper, transfer using carbon paper. Place the pieces on the fabric so that there is approximately 4-5 mm of allowance left.

Gather all the parts using thread or needles, or you can simply secure them with pins in different places so that the fabric does not move around. Next we stitch it either by hand or by machine. If you are sewing a toy by hand, try not to pull the thread too much so that there are no unnecessary bulges on the toy.

Make small cuts on all curves (not reaching the seam) and turn the parts inside out. If you have miracle zig-zag scissors (they are quite expensive, but Tilda is simply irreplaceable for constant cutting and sewing), simply cut out all the parts at a distance of 4-5 mm from the seam.

Fill the parts with filler. Doll makers often advise putting a small heart into the toy, made of any material - sewn, wooden, plastic.

We stuff it tightly enough so that the fabric does not wrinkle or bulge. Pay special attention to the neck - it should be smooth, without wrinkles or bends.

Start assembling the Tilda Rabbit toy. Sew the arms and legs to the body, paying attention to the fastening of the legs - depending on the desired effect, the legs are sewn in different ways - inward with the feet, straight or in different directions.

Using a simple pencil, draw boundaries for the eyes, nose and mouth. Embroider them with floss threads or paint them with acrylic paints.

And here is a version of a rabbit made of linen fabric.

We will now sew a bright yellow jumpsuit to go with it. First, fold the fabric right side inward and trace the pattern. Then we cut out the panties (leave 1 cm for an allowance) and a small rectangle (the top of the overalls). From this rectangle we sew a pocket, turn it inside out and pin it to the panties (which we first sew along one line)

Now we carefully attach the top part to the panties and hem the bottom. You can use a glue web and an iron - it will be even neater.

We sew 2 identical strips, turn them inside out, sew them to the top of the overalls with bright threads and add buttons for beauty.

On the reverse side we sew the strips crosswise with a neat seam. Then be sure to thoroughly iron the overalls.

We dress the rabbit and powder its cheeks. This is such a handsome guy.

Well, if you want, you can insert a wire into the ears - and then they will be movable.

The fairytale rabbit, being a cartoon character, is loved by many children. Every child dreams of having such a toy friend to spend time with and fall asleep in the same bed. You can make your child’s dream come true not only by buying a toy, but also by making it yourself. Moreover, the creation of mother’s hands will be more loved and more expensive than store-bought. In order to create a beautiful toy, you will need very few things: just a couple of pieces of fabric, a rabbit pattern and a little imagination.

Best friend

A soft and cute rabbit toy can become the best friend for any child. To do this, the craft needs to be made as cute and functional as possible, that is, do not use fragile and small decorations to decorate it. It is best to choose natural fabrics or fur for tailoring and decoration. When using fur material (especially natural), you should make sure that the child does not have allergies.

The size of the future craft may be different, depending on the age of the baby. But many needlewomen advise making toys that are not too large, so that they can be quickly washed and dried. Also, you don’t need to sew a very small rabbit, because your child will get tired of it very quickly. Therefore, it is best to choose a medium size, approximately twenty to thirty-five centimeters. As for the clothes of the fairy-tale hero, it must correspond to the gender of the child, because not every boy will like a rabbit in a dress. But for girls there are no restrictions.

Toy style

Among the huge number of toy styles, Tilda crafts are especially popular. The creator of this trend, Toni Finnanger, was able to embody the simplicity of forms and elegant splendor of fabric dolls in her crafts. Having received worldwide recognition for their sophistication, all products under the Tilda brand are the favorite toys of many children. One of the features of such toys are long arms and legs, as well as a minimal image of the facial outline. The needlewoman’s collection also includes rabbits. The charming Tilda rabbit, the pattern of which is placed below, is the most favorite exhibit of many people among all the artist’s crafts.

When cutting out parts of a toy from fabric, you need to take into account the fact that the pattern is shown without seam allowance, so you should make a small indentation from the edges of about 1-1.5 cm. If this is not done, the parts you will end up with are too narrow, which can spoil the appearance of the craft.

Also, the Tilda rabbit (the pattern of which is included in the article) is drawn on a small scale, which can be enlarged if desired. As a filler, you can choose padding polyester, holofiber or padding polyester. As for the design of the face, you need to sew two small beads in the area where the eyes are located, and embroider the nose with a triangle using embroidery threads. You will also need to lightly brown the rabbit's cheeks using blush. You should also pay attention to the fact that the ears of a fashionable rabbit can be sewn differently. In one case, they are cut out of one material, and in the other, fabric of two colors is used. As a rule, the inside of the ears in this case should be made of multi-colored linen or cotton.

Fluffy gift

A rabbit made of fur looks no less charming and cute than a fabric one. To create such splendor, it is best to choose short-haired fur that will not fall off. The toy can be sewn in several ways, using a combination of materials and making it completely fur. In the first case, the head of the craft is cut out from some soft fabric, and all other parts are made from fur. This version of the toy rabbit looks very beautiful and original. Below is a pattern of a rabbit made of fur, which is suitable for sewing both types of crafts.

Speaking about the design of a rabbit's face, it should be mentioned that on a completely fur toy you need to make very expressive eyes. Most often they use special ones that look like real ones. Making them yourself is very difficult, so you need to use purchased parts. As for the combined craft, different eyes look equally charming on it. They can be purchased, embroidered, or made from beads and buttons.

Long-eared surprise

There are few differences between all toy rabbits, most often these are different types of material taken for sewing, as well as the shape of their ears. Such a handmade product can have ears of medium length, erect ears, as well as very long ears, which sometimes reach the height of the craft. Below is a pattern for a rabbit with long ears that any child will surely love.

The toy shown in the pattern can be sewn from various materials. Therefore, it may look like Tilda crafts or like the above fur option. In any case, the rabbit toy will turn out very beautiful. Sometimes soft wires are inserted into the ears of such products to make it possible to lift them. But most often, long-eared rabbits are made with flowing and soft ears.

Required scale

Very often it turns out that the rabbit pattern shown in the picture does not fit in size. Sometimes you want to make a toy bigger, and sometimes smaller. In this case, you should resort to zooming in or out. This is not difficult to do, you need to take a ready-made image of the parts, and if you need to enlarge them, then add a few centimeters along the edges of the product. If you need to reduce it, then you need to measure the pattern data with a ruler and draw it taking into account the changes, subtracting a few centimeters from the edges.

When making such changes to the toy, it is necessary to take into account that the rabbit pattern is given taking into account the proportions of the craft’s body. Therefore, you do not need to draw images by eye without having certain skills. It is best to follow the recommendations of specialists as stated above. If it is difficult to make a correct pattern on a regular landscape sheet, then you should use a sheet from a checkered notebook or special paper designed for this purpose. It will be much easier to draw details on it and make various curves correctly.

Unusual padding

As a rule, the same materials are used to stuff toys: padding polyester, synthetic padding or holofiber, as mentioned above. But sometimes other fillers are used to make the craft more durable. Most often these are various grains that can be pleasantly felt through the fabric. Being completely natural, such ingredients will not harm a playing child.

When using natural fillers, you need to take into account the fact that cereals are heavier than synthetic fillers. Therefore, the rabbit pattern and the material for sewing it must be chosen taking this nuance into account. It should also be remembered that before using any cereal, it must be thoroughly fried so that it does not spoil inside the craft. Although this method of filling products is completely natural, it has one big drawback - the inability to wash the toy. Therefore, it is most often used for crafts that are used as indoor decoration.

Let's sew a couple of rabbits for mint-colored clothes. This master class is my personal experience in sewing rabbits. In this master class I will show you how to sew a rabbit carcass and sew on its legs.

You will need:

1. Natural linen for the body and cotton for the ears.

2. Rolled padding polyester.

3. Acrylic paints for fabric.

4. Cotton lace.

5. Buttons.

6. Zigzag scissors.

7. Metal pendants.

8. Non-woven fabric.

Let's start with the pattern.

I translated the pattern from the monitor, you can print it on a printer on A4 sheet.

Fold the fabric in half and trace the patterns on the fabric, using a pencil or a special marker. We draw two torsos, four legs and four legs. Everything is in such quantities because we are sewing a couple of rabbits. We’re not cutting the ears yet, we’ll do them later.

We sew along the marked lines, set the stitch on the machine to 2.5, if you want it can be smaller, but not more. Be sure to leave the openings for turning and stuffing unstitched.

We cut out all the details with zigzag scissors so that the seams do not break, leaving allowances. Where the holes are not sewn, we make a larger allowance so that when working with the parts the edges do not unravel.

We pin the darts on the body and stitch them.

Turn it inside out and stuff it. I stuff my toys with rolled padding polyester. Then they turn out so tight. The head needs to be stuffed firmly and the body should be softer. Otherwise, it will be difficult to sew on the legs and arms. We stuff the legs tightly, the arms softer. After stuffing, we sew up all the holes.

We sew the legs to the rabbits, as shown in this diagram.

We are not sewing on the arms yet, we will do this when we dress our rabbits.

Now let's move on to the ears. Trace the ear pattern on the fabric, turn the pattern over and draw a second ear next to it. Cut out a rectangle on which the ears are drawn. According to the size of this rectangle, cut two rectangles from linen and non-woven fabric.

The interlining is hard to see in this photo, but it's there.

Using a not very hot iron, glue the interlining to the cotton.

We fold the cotton and linen with the right sides facing each other and sew the ears with a fine stitch on the machine, leaving the lower edges of the ears unsewn.

We cut out the ears with zigzag scissors, turn them inside out and iron the ears carefully.

Now let's sew on the rabbits' ears.

On the head we draw lines for sewing on the ears with a pencil, making sure that they are symmetrical. Draw lines from the back of the head to the face.

Take the eyelet, turn the edge inward and fold the eyelet in half.

Use small stitches to sew the eyelet over the edge.

We apply the ear to the head along the drawn line and begin to sew it with a hidden seam, first along the lower edge of the ear.

Then, having reached the edge, we turn and sew the ear along the side, about a centimeter.

Again we turn and sew the ear from the inside, to the back of the head.

We sew the second ear in the same way.

Now let's draw the eyes and nose, I draw with a simple pencil, if anything can be erased with an eraser.

Paint the eyes completely with white acrylic paint.

Using black paint we draw the nose and muzzle.

Draw the iris and use a cotton swab to erase a little paint along the bottom of the iris. So that the lower part of the iris is lighter.

Draw the pupils and use a black gel pen to draw eyes, eyelids, eyelashes and antennae points.

Now we paint highlights with white paint and apply blush; you can use real blush.

Sew on the handles. We put the sleeves on the handles.

We thread a long, thick needle with a strong thread. We pierce the handle at a distance of about a centimeter from the top of the handle. Not right through, but as if we are catching it with a stitch.

We try the handle on the body and pierce it through in the intended place with a needle. We try to pierce exactly perpendicular to the body so that the needle comes out on the other side symmetrically to the other side.

We check for symmetry, look from the back, if the needle is straight then continue.

We pull out the needle and pierce the second handle.

We go back and pierce the body in the opposite direction.

We tie a knot and tighten the threads; when we have tightened them enough, we make another knot and another to secure the thread. Trim the ends of the threads.

Done, we also sew on the girl’s arms.
