We knit original vests for children. How to knit a sleeveless jacket for a child with a large cell pattern

With the onset of autumn and winter colds, mothers begin to actively knit vests for babies. These warm clothes will help you stay warm in cold weather and look smart at the same time. The very word "vest" of French origin, in Russia this important wardrobe item is willingly worn by both adults and children. They can be warm (woolen) and light, summery (synthetic or cotton).

An embroidered or knitted sleeveless jacket is also an integral part of the ethnic costume of many nationalities. Such clothes are well suited as festive clothes for children performing in a folk choir or doing folk dances. A strict vest made of dense dark fabric will perfectly complement the school uniform of a boy or girl.

A girl or a boy, dressed in exclusive handmade knitted clothes, will always look stylish and stand out from their peers. Knitted vest for a girl or a boy You can wear it to school, kindergarten, and for a walk around the city. A diagram and description of a vest for a girl with knitting needles or a crochet can be found on the Internet or in women's magazines, where there is a section dedicated to needlework. It is undoubtedly worth tying such a new thing to a kid or schoolchild, because:

A stylish vest can be knitted for a one-year-old baby, and for a child of senior school age. As soon as children learn to walk independently, such clothes become relevant. Thanks to the long sleeveless jacket worn "under the bottom", the child's stomach and back are not exposed during active games, and this is very important in order to maintain the health of the kidneys and the reproductive system in both girls and boys. In addition, putting on a sleeveless jacket is very simple. It is on this piece of clothing that you can teach a two-three-year-old baby to dress independently, as well as unfasten buttons (or zippers).

Before you start knitting, you need to prepare everything you need. A knitted vest for a boy is made of gray, brown, blue or "protective" yarn. Girls will also like brighter colors. To knit a vest with knitting needles or crochet, you will need a diagram with a description. You may also need to work:

For decoration, you may need shreds of fabric or leather, you can make an interesting appliqué with your own hands. Oriental-style vests trimmed with beads and sequins look beautiful, but this option is not suitable for babies under three years old. A small child will easily tear off small parts and can put them in his mouth.

General job description

First of all, the child must be measured. The chest circumference will help determine the width of the product, and the measurement of height - with the length. The correct sleeve length is very important. Too short a thing will not warm, and too long will be uncomfortable to wear. The diagram and description of a sleeveless jacket for a girl (boy) with knitting needles should be put in a conspicuous place in order to refer to it if necessary. Here is a sample job description:

Beginning needlewomen can use the usual garter stitch, and experienced craftswomen can choose any openwork or embossed patterns. A sleeveless jacket decorated with voluminous “braids” (the so-called Aran patterns) or “shells” looks beautiful. A simple alternation of multi-colored stripes or zigzag lines will also look spectacular. Sleeveless jackets with a “chess” pattern look good on boys (cells of two contrasting colors, arranged in a checkerboard pattern).

Vest or poncho can be decorated elegant multi-colored pompoms or tassels handmade, as well as decorate with bright fringe. Children love chic and glitter, so any decor options are possible, so long as the sleeveless jacket does not look dull and boring. Here are some more interesting ideas:

Combination with other types of clothing

A knitted vest goes well with any children's clothing, but these things are best combined with fitted turtlenecks. In cold weather, you can wear a sleeveless jacket under a jacket or sweater. A great option is to knit a hat, scarf and seals (mittens) to match the vest.

A dark plain knitted vest goes well with a classic school uniform. In this case, the most suitable colors for the product are burgundy (for girls), dark green and dark blue (for children of both sexes), black and dark brown (for boys).

A bright, elegant sleeveless jacket can be worn for a walk in combination with a jacket of any style. The main thing is that this jacket should be plain and restrained in color. If the whole costume is colorful, the product will lose all its effectiveness, it will look rather ridiculous.

In cold weather girls can wear a sleeveless jacket on a dress with long sleeves. A product made of very dense and warm wool, complemented by a scarf, may well replace a light jacket - a windbreaker in spring or early autumn. To do this, you just need to put it on over a tight-fitting jacket.

It is always convenient when the product has pockets. They can be knitted, or they can be made from scraps of fabric to match the sleeveless jacket. A one-piece product may have a large chest pocket, while a product consisting of a back and two shelves usually has two pockets sewn on the sides.

Handmade knitted vest for a child sure to please the baby. But the main thing is that such clothes will help not to freeze in the cold, and the stomach and back will always be warm during running and active games. If you choose a simple pattern and purchase high-quality yarn for work, knitting will not cause much trouble. An experienced needlewoman will cope with such work in about two to three hours, a novice craftswoman will need a little more time.

Baby vest description:

Front/back:

knitted in straight and reverse rows on circular needles from the middle of the front.

Cast on 148-168-184 (204-224) sts on circular needle size 2.5 mm. Work first row in next row, in RS pattern: 5 sts (= plank) - see explanation above, *k2, p2*, repeat from *-* until 7 sts remain, finish with k2 and 5 sts in garter st (= bar). Continue in ribbing in the same way with 5 sts in garter st on both sides until piece measures 3-3-4 (4-5) cm - Don't forget the buttonholes on the placket - see explanation above. Change to 3mm circular needles and work in stockinette stitch, but continue in garter stitch as before.

Simultaneously on the first row after Rib, dec 32-36-40 (44-52) sts evenly (do not dec on planks) = 116-132-144 (160-172) sts. Insert marker at 31-35-39 (43-45) ) sts on both sides (= 54-62-66 (74-82) sts between back markers).

Remember about the density of knitting!

At piece height 7-7.5-8 (9-10) cm, work next, next row, following RS pattern: 5 sts in garter st, 21-21-27 (27-31) sts in stockinette stitch, slip last 16-16-20 (20-24) sts that have been worked to the pocket st, work until 10-10-12 (12-12) sts remain on needle, slip last 16-16-20 (20-24 ) sts that have been worked, on the pocket slit holder, work 5-5-7 (7-7) sts in stockinette stitch and finish with 5 sts in garter st. On next row, cast on 16-16-20 (20-24) new sts over each of 2 sts = 116-132-144 (160-172) sts. Continue in stockinette st and garter st until piece measures 13-14- 16 (16-18) cm. Now knit 4 rows - all faces on all loops (= 2 scars). Then work Double Rice - see explanation above (continue garter st as before).

Important! Read the next section to the end before you continue knitting!

At piece height 15-17-18 (20-21) cm, work 2 rows in garter st on first 5 sts on needle (do not work remaining sts on needle), then work 1 row on all sts before working 2 rows in garter st on first 5 n on the needle on the other side of the part (this is done for a neat V-neck). Then subtract for V-neck: dec 1 st every 2nd row (i.e. every RS row) 12-13-16 (16-16) times in total.

At the same time, at piece height 16-17-19 (20-22) cm, work 4 rows in garter st on medium 18-20-20 (20-20) sts on both sides (i.e. on 9-10-10 (10- 10) sts on both sides of each marker) - knit the remaining sts as before. On next row cast off medium 8-10-10 (10-10) sts on both sides for armhole and finish front and back separately.

Back:

46-52-56 (64-72) sts. Work Double Rice pattern with 5 sts in garter st on both sides (= edge of sleeve). At the same time, reduce for armholes: dec 1 st every 2nd row (i.e. every RS row) 5-6-6 (6-6) times in total = 36-40-44 (52-60) sts. st until piece measures 24-26-29 (31-34) cm. Now work in garter st on all sts until desired length is reached. Simultaneously at piece height 25-27-30 (32-35) cm cast off medium 16-18-20 (20-24) sts for neckline = 10-11-12 (16-18) sts left for each shoulder. Now finish each shoulder separately. Continue in garter st until piece measures 26-28-31 (33-36) cm, cast off.

Left shelf:

Continue in Double Rice and Garter St, while dec for armhole as on back and continue dec for V-neck as before. After the last dec 10-11-12 (16-18) sts remain on the needle. Work in garter st on all sts until piece measures 26-28-31 (33-36) cm and cast off.

Right shelf:

knit like a left shelf, but mirrored.

Pocket cut:

return 16-16-20 (20-24) sts from one holder to needles. Knit in Rib K2/P2 with K1 in Garter St and K2 on both sides (when viewed from RS). When the length of the incision of the pocket is 2.5-2.5-3 (3-3) cm, loosely bind off the loops with knit over knit and purl over purl. Sew a pocket slit. Sew the opening of the pocket to the slit (where the stitches were placed on the stitch holder). Make the second pocket cut in the same way.

Pattern scheme:

Hello my dear readers!

The topic of our meeting today is a knitted sleeveless jacket for a child. By clicking on the name of the pattern, you will be taken to a page with its description.

I knitted this warm (thanks to the yarn and compressed pattern) sleeveless jacket for my one-year-old granddaughter Sashenka, her SIZE is 80/86, so he will still wear it next winter (I hope).

By the way, the same viscous is connected and loved by many.

To knit a sleeveless jacket for a child, I used:

  • 150 g (1.5 a skein) of semi-woolen sectional yarn in gray melange color Super Excellence of the MAGIC trademark (100 grams - 228 m);
  • knitting needles No. 3 and No. 4;
  • stocking knitting needles No. 3.

Now this yarn is no longer produced, but if Alpaca Royal yarn from ALIZE (250 m / 100 g) caught my eye then, I would take it without hesitation (you can click on the link and get to know this yarn better).

To finish the bottom of the sleeveless jacket, armholes and neckline, I picked up a garter stitch - it is most suitable for the Large Cells pattern, thanks to the removed loops of which the sleeveless jacket turned out to be dense and warm, but not at all rigid.

Well, now let's proceed directly to the description.

How to knit a sleeveless jacket for a baby

Knitting back

We collect 62 loops on knitting needles No. 3 and knit 5 rows, evenly adding 10 loops in the last row (72 loops on the needles).

To do this, first close 4 loops on both sides, then in every second row 1 time 2 loops 1 time 1 loop, on the needles - 58 loops. Next, we continue to knit until the length of the back is 33 cm.

After that, to form the neckline, close the middle 18 loops, and then on both sides to round the neckline, close in every second row, first 3 loops, then 2, and then 1 loop (14 loops remain on the needles for each shoulder).

We do not close the shoulder loops and proceed to knitting the front of the sleeveless jacket.

Knitting front

Before we start knitting in the same way as the back, only in the “Large cells” pattern after the 2nd row, I started knitting from the 11th, and not from the 3rd row, so that when making side seams, the joining of the “pieces” of the cell looked prettier .

We carry out the armhole as we did when knitting the back. After 2 cm from the armhole line, we knit 2 middle loops together and re-shoot this loop on a pin, after which we finish both sides of the V-shaped neckline separately.

At the same time, in every second row we will close 1 loop from the inner edge until 14 loops remain on the knitting needles. After that, we simply knit both sides to the height of the back. Shoulder loops are also not closed.

Back to front connection

Fold the front and back of the sleeveless jacket right side inward. On an additional knitting needle, we re-shoot, alternating one at a time, 14 loops of the shoulder of the back and 14 loops of the shoulder of the front, on the needle - 28 loops.

We close the loops of the shoulder, after knitting 2 loops together with the front one. We do the same with the loops of the second shoulder.

Shoulder lines with this method of connecting the back and front are smooth and almost invisible.

Sleeveless neck tying

With stocking needles No. 3, we collect 113 loops along the neckline (42 loops - from the back side, 35 loops each - neckline, 1 loop - from the pin) and begin to knit on the front side:

  • 1st circular row -facial loops;
  • 2nd circular row - purl, knitting along 2 purl together through each 5 loops and 3 loops together purl - in the toe of the V-shaped neckline;
  • 3rd circular row - facial loops;
  • 4th circular row - purl, as in the second circular row;
  • 5th circular row - facial loops;
  • 6th circular row - purl, knitting together purl only 3 loops of the cape;
  • in the 7th circular row - close the remaining ones that are not tight 78 loops.

Tying the armholes of a sleeveless jacket

On the armhole of one sleeve, we collect 60 loops and knit with a garter stitch for 6 rows, while knitting in the 6th row 3 times 2 loops together with the front one (at the beginning, in the middle and at the end of the row) so that the edging from the garter stitch does not stick out so much .

In the 7th row, we close all 57 loops. We make the second armhole in the same way.

We carry out side seams, fill the threads on the wrong side. A sleeveless jacket for a child is knitted!

Now you know how to knit a sleeveless jacket for your baby with a large mesh pattern. As you can see, it's not difficult at all. 😉

And Ekaterina Shapovalova offers you to knit this sleeveless vest. Knitting is also not difficult at all. The only thing I would do is make the armhole trim a little shorter.

Successful knitting and even loops!
