Fashionable hats for men. What men's fedora hats look like: photo selection

Who said that only women should follow fashion? The representatives of the stronger sex must also be fashionable! A fashionable man is, first of all, a well-groomed man, confident in his attractiveness. He must be well and tastefully dressed. And a sure sign of good taste is, of course, a fashionable men's hat!

In my opinion, the most stylish fashionable men's hat is the fedora. This is the perfect men's accessory. This model of men's hat can be chosen for almost any appearance. It goes well with any style and image, and also gives men charm and even some mystery.

Al Capone-style men's hats have become the most popular now. These are gangster hats that perfectly harmonize with various men's suits, both in gangster and classic style.

trilby- Another fashionable men's felt hat. It is distinguished by a large dent in the front of the crown. Most often, these hats are made in classic brown tones.

If you want to look trendy, then by all means pay attention to very interesting and beautiful models of men's hats in country or derby style.

In addition to men's hats, caps are also very widespread. They have become almost an integral part of the men's wardrobe. Their advantage lies in the fact that they go well with almost any men's clothing, from a classic business suit to sweatpants. Retro style is welcome in men's caps.

The most fashionable men's hats are plain hats. Best of all, if you prefer light brown shades, gray and beige colors. Such accessories are perfectly combined with almost any clothing, both strict and more cheeky cut. In addition, two-tone hats are also relevant.
If you are a creative person and are not afraid to experiment, then pay attention to the hats of quite bright and saturated colors, for example, emerald green, yellow, mustard, red, burgundy. But keep in mind, in order not to look ridiculous, and not to resemble a parrot with different feathers, do not wear a lot of bright things at the same time. It would be much better if you wear a solid color suit, a bright hat and tie, or a bright hat and scarf.

The main materials for fashionable men's hats are classic felt, processed suede, textured leather, which has become relevant recently.

Finally, I want to open one small but very important trick when choosing a men's hat. Remember that broad-shouldered, large-featured men wear wide-brimmed hats, while narrow-shouldered, small-featured men wear narrow-brimmed hats.

Men's hats will never go out of style. So feel free to choose the right hat for yourself and be always stylish and fashionable!

And in conclusion, let's look at the most fashionable men's hats of this season.

Hat (English hat) - a headdress for women and men that retains a stable shape. It usually consists of a tulle (a part covering the head) and fields (a strip protruding beyond the edges of the tulle). Performs a decorative function and protects from the effects of the atmosphere. It is made from straw, leather, linen, cotton, polyester, etc. It dates back to antiquity.

“I have a soft spot for hats. How many did I have! They are elegant and eccentric, funny and dramatic, any is a pleasure. In my opinion, a woman in a hat cannot be forgotten.

Hat Selection Criteria

Wide-brimmed hats are suitable for slender girls with at least average height. The fair sex with high growth and magnificent forms will look favorably in hats with narrow hard brim. This type will not fit narrow tall hats. Petite girls can choose hats with a high crown and narrow brim, as well as elegant pillbox hats. Short overweight girls should avoid wide-brimmed and too small hats. Young ladies of short stature are advised to put their hair under a hat.

face shape

It is advisable for owners of a round face to wear hats that open its upper part as much as possible. High hats visually elongate the face, balancing the proportions. Small, tight-fitting and low-fitting models, as well as bowlers and pill hats, are not suitable for chubby ones. With a long face, it is better to cover the forehead and avoid high hats. Classic men's hats will look great. With a triangular face, you should choose small hats with small fields. You can wear a fedora folded to the side. Girls with a square face go for hats with lowered brims, but straight brims are best avoided.

Hair length

Owners of short straight hair fit tight-fitting brimless hats, cloches, bowlers. Panamas are suitable for girls with short curly hair. Wide-brimmed hats, pills and currents are combined with long straight hair. For girls with long curly hair, hats with lowered brim are suitable.

Clothing color scheme

The hat can be selected as follows: under; under a scarf and; under boots and If a set of clothes consists of several colors, the headdress should be matched exactly to match. If the ensemble is made in one color scheme, you need to choose a hat in one of the shades. Recently, it is also important to wear a headdress that contrasts with the set: a bright hat with clothes in restrained colors or a neutral model with an extravagant ensemble.

Men's hat is an elegant accessory that can dilute and add luxury to many looks. Headgear requires appropriate clothing and footwear. The whole ensemble should be thought out to the smallest detail.

A small number of models of men's hats have survived in modern fashion. Fedora, trilby and boater are especially popular.

The accessory is selected in color according to the wardrobe. Most men think hats don't suit them. This is a misleading opinion, since among the variety of styles there will certainly be an ideal headdress.

The headpiece will complement the set, consisting of trousers of a strict cut, a white shirt, a vest and a business jacket. Suspenders to match the ribbon on the hat will add a special chic.

Men's top hat

The most formal headdress is the top hat. It is a high top with a small brim. The headdress is made of silk or satin. Shiny fabric makes the hat an accessory for evening events.

In modern days, the cylinder is used as a tribute to tradition. In addition, the accessory is part of the costume of illusionists and fans of the steampunk subculture.

Every decent retrograde should wear a mustache ;)
Another indispensable attribute (no less important than a mustache), I consider a hat.

Admit it, because surely none of you have ever worn a hat. But, even a century ago, going outside without a hat was simply unthinkable!

Get our ordinary contemporary in the first decade of the twentieth century ...
What do you think would be sure to impress him?

I suppose one of the factors that would certainly surprise him would be the huge number of hats on the streets.
And make no mistake - when I say "a huge number of hats", I mean a really HUGE number of them;)
Take a closer look - indeed, to see a man with an uncovered head is simply unrealistic!

In the times that interest me, there were many types of hats:

Page from the English catalog for 1915

What exactly were these species, and how they were exactly called - I will not say. It’s just that the names of the styles were distorted and changed, depending on the country and the place where they were sold. But I can show you the modern division of hats:

This illustration from a popular magazine, however, contains one error. But more on that later...

For now, let me briefly talk about each type of hat. Oh no, I'm not going to lull you into boring dates - I'll briefly summarize what interested or amused me about descriptions of certain types of hats. Besides, my interest in hats is not academic, but purely utilitarian. I just always wanted to wear a hat :)
Therefore, there will be no berets, boaters and caps today - they are not interesting to me.

So, cylinder...

The top hat - "a high hat for gentlemen with high goals" - is the quintessence of English dandyism. This is undoubtedly the most popular type of hat of the entire 19th century. And if, for example, in the illustrations of 1806, the first cylinders look frankly ridiculous:

That cylinders of the late XIX century, no longer differ from those produced today.

You can compare this cylinder from the end of the 19th century and modern

There is a funny legend with the first mention of this "monstrous invention" in January 1797:
“John Hetherington walked yesterday along the sidewalk of the embankment, with on his head an enormous trumpet, made of silk and distinguished by a strange sheen. Its effect on passers-by was terrible! "They write that he was fined 500 (!) Pounds, but after only a few years the top hat was already at the height of fashion. And throughout the 19th century, men, like damned, wore an uncomfortable high hat that clings to tree branches and doorways, besides, it visually makes a person lower than he really is.The cylinder is very bulky, so the "shapoklyak" - a folding cylinder was invented in France in 1823. The crown of the cylinder became soft and was kept on a spacer, in the room there was a hat How can one not remember the notorious old woman Shapoklyak from the cartoon about Cheburashka - who walks in a semi-folded "shapoklyak" :)

Cylinders completely disappeared from everyday use after the First World War. They were worn for some time on solemn occasions (party parties, public ceremonies, ritual funerals, weddings). Diplomatic etiquette regulated the wearing of a top hat until the 1970s.

Currently, the top hat is used only as a tribute to tradition at various events (for example, it is mandatory when visiting the races on royal days in Ascot, England). In addition, it is part of the illusionists' costume (thanks to the countless options for pulling something out of the hat trick).

And cylinders are very fond of fans of "steampunk" :)

bowler hat

The bowler hat is another symbol of everything truly British. The kettle was made around 1850. The hat was made from felt obtained from rabbit and hare fur, which was impregnated with shellac and a mercury solution!!!

If the 19th century is a top hat, then the beginning of the 20th century is undoubtedly a bowler hat. Take another look at the photographs of the city streets of the early twentieth century - almost all men are exclusively in bowlers. After all, the bowler hat quickly became a very democratic hat. It was worn as a stylish accessory to a business suit that replaced a frock coat - the bowler hat gave a dapper look and made it possible to think that everyone can be a gentleman if they put on the “right hat” :)
In the US, it was even considered a formal headdress, replacing the top hat.

If the top hat became out of fashion after the First World War, then the bowler hat lost its role from the end of the Second World War.
But, in England, the bowler hat remained an integral part of the official costume of the City of London until the 1960s. To this day, bowlers can be seen at the races in Epsom, less pompous than Ascot. It is interesting that even today the bowler hat can be seen in London - according to tradition, guards officers are required to wear it when they change into civilian clothes.

Princes, as you can see, also follow this tradition of guard officers.

It is believed that the bowler hat is worn by people prone to some eccentric behavior and appearance.

No matter how popular the top hat and bowler hat are, at the word "hat" you will most likely get up before your eyes fedora .

This is a classic gentleman's hat with a soft brim that can be worn up or down. "Fedora" is also called snap brim ("broken field"), because it is customary to twist the back of the field of this hat up, and lower the front to the eyes for greater mystery. There are three dents on the top of the fedora.
Right, left, top - for three fingers, with which they raise the hat at the sight of a particularly seductive lady or move it even lower into the eyes if the lady came by without bothering to look.

Fedora got its name from the 1882 play of the same name by Victorien Sardou.

Today, undoubtedly, the most famous owner of such a hat is "Indiana Jones" - Hollywood actor Harrison Ford.

Homburg
- men's felt hat with narrow, slightly curved brim and a longitudinal dent.

When King Edward VII, while still the Prince of Wales, was in the German resort town of Bad Homburg, there he discovered a very special hat, which was made in this town and was also called.

The prince, who was reputed to be a connoisseur of style, liked the homburg hat. Soon he began to promote it throughout Europe. In terms of officiality, the Homburg is second only to the top hat today, except for the bowler hat as a specifically English hat.

The brown trilby hat is known throughout the world as the badge of the racing fraternity. This hat is adored by the social and financial aristocracy. In England, it is impossible to imagine racing without the trilby, which is as much their accessory as the tweed suit. Trilby in England can be ordered from any hatmaker who is proud of the traditions of his company.

Not as elegant as "Fedora", but sociable and without pretensions. The classic trilby must be brown in color and the crown must have a significant dent in the front. Once she was the favorite of the financial aristocracy, but now she has gone to the people. The name of the hat is borrowed from George Du Maurier's Trilby. That was the name of the beautiful Irish model, who, under the hypnosis of the demonic musician Svengali, became a famous singer, and after his death she lost the gift. Contrary to this libretto, the trilby is predominantly a male headdress.

Today, the trilby is the favorite hat of show business stars. And, perhaps, in general, the most popular hat today. It is her who has the greatest chance to meet in the city, on the head of "fashionable youth". Designers also fell in love with "trilby" - what wild colors this hat does not have!

It is decorated with the most amazing drawings and textures.

And finally - Borsalino

A popular misconception is associated with this hat (remember the picture with the types of hats?):

In fact, "borsalino" is not a hat style, but an Italian company that has been producing top-class hats since the middle of the 19th century. The "Borsalino" label can be on a fedora, trilby, or even a straw hat.

Speaking of the hat "Borsalino" - most often they mean the classic "Fedora"
Borsalino belongs to a narrow group of trademarks included in explanatory dictionaries. But unlike Jacuzzi, Pampers or Xerox, which gave the world hot tubs, diapers and copiers, Borsalino did not invent "borsalino". I just made them better than others. The classic form of the Borsalino hat is inextricably linked with the name of Al Capone and the image of a harsh mafia.

Uncle Al, who is Capone in a fedora from "Borsalino"

The second wave of popularity of the hat is associated with Humphrey Bogart in "Casablanca" and "The Maltese Falcon".

Humphrey Bogart, Casablanca and Fedora "Borsalino"

In the late 1960s, the image of the misanthrope in borsalino was brought to the point of absurdity. Alain Delon from film to film walked the streets of Paris with a gloomy face and a hat with a black bow, turning the necks of ideological enemies.

After the release of the film of the same name in 1970, which starred Delon and Belmondo, Borsalino finally turned into a household name.

Hat making process

Giuseppe Borsalino created his first atelier in 1857. Half a century later, the annual production amounted to a million hats. Teresio Borsalino, who inherited the business from his father, doubles this figure.

2007 marks the 150th anniversary of Borsalino's first hat.

As you can see for yourself on www.borsalino.com, today this company continues to successfully produce hats of all kinds.

Kettle from "Borsalino"

Hats from "Borsalino", however, are famous not only for impeccable quality - but also for a serious price :)

While looking on flicker for an illustration of the Borsalino store, I came across a very funny photo.
So a tourist walks into a hat shop in Italy, and so casually asks to see the goods....

And then he notices the price tag...

At 3500 euros! hehe

Of course, not all hats are worth that kind of money, but still the prices are serious:

Shop window "Borsalino" and prices in euros

On this, probably, it is necessary to round off - I signed something :)

It remains to add that I will definitely buy myself a hat someday! Maybe a classic old-fashioned Borsalino fedora, or even a bowler hat.
I hardly dare to wear it on the street - after all, today it is very extravagant and defiant. But I really want to have a house :)

P.S Be sure to watch the report about visiting the museum-factory of hats in France - and you will see how hats are made!

1. Panama hat. A men's summer hat made of straw or textile will be a great addition to your summer suit. We advise you to pay attention to bright shades: blue, blue, emerald. Aviator sunglasses work best here.

1 2. Trilby hat. This hat is known throughout the world as a sign that distinguishes the fraternity of horse racing. However, she has changed a lot lately. Today, the trilby is the favorite hat of show business stars, youth and hipsters. And, perhaps, in general, the most popular hat today. Wear it with a cotton T-shirt, slim pants or shorts. And do not forget about shoes, the best option is espadrilles.

2 3. HatPorkPie. This hat got its unusual name because of its resemblance to a pork pie. Usually it is made of felt or straw, has a small height and a recess. This hat is perfect for light men's jumpers and blazers, thin cotton trousers in light colors and classic shoes. From accessories, you can wear a silk tie or a colored bow tie.

3 4. CapFlatCap. It's a rounded cap with a small hard brim, sort of a hybrid between a beret and a baseball cap. FlatCap is good because it will suit almost any type of face, the main thing is to choose the right size. Great for casual style: cotton shorts or thin jeans, polo shirts or vests, moccasins or slippers.

The most current model among men's hats is the fedora hat. It should be worn with both classic clothing and denim - it all depends on what the hat is made of. It is mainly made of felt, denim, velveteen, summer options are linen and straw. Do not forget about casual style, baseball caps and caps are in the lead here. Well, if you have a solemn event or a dinner party, you should give preference to a bowler hat or a top hat. But almost all creative people: artists, musicians, poets prefer oriental-style headdresses - skullcaps.

5. Fedor hat. The most popular and widespread model of men's and women's hats. In the XXI century, it is sewn not only from felt, but also from tweed, leather, denim, suede, even weave from straw! But the most luxurious option offered Christian Dior- a bright, velvet fedora, shifted to one side. No matter what clothes you choose, the fedora hat goes with everything. This is a classic suit or its elements: strict trousers, white shirt, business jacket, vest. You can enhance the accent with stylish suspenders (by the way, they can be combined with a ribbon that wraps around the crown of the hat) or a neat tie.

5 6. Straw Hat Boater. This is more of a beach option - it certainly goes with everyone and with any leisure wear. The main thing is to get away from traditional beige tones, and give preference to bright shades. Wear it with jeans and a light plaid shirt.

6 7. Baseball cap. Initially, it is a sports attribute that came out of the American game of the same name. It seems that absolutely everyone loves this type of headwear: children, teenagers, men, women. The baseball cap is one of the rare wardrobe styles that doesn't change with time and fashion. Now bright baseball caps with prints or inscriptions are popular. Clothing style - sporty or casual: trousers, jeans, cotton T-shirts and jackets, sneakers and suede boots.
