Make a rug out of old things - Easy!

Do you think colorful, soft, original, practically free rugs are a myth? Look around! Do you have thread, cord, rope, unwanted knitwear or old T-shirts at home? Then let's make the house even more comfortable with our own hands, and at the same time protect our planet from excess garbage!

This article contains original ideas for needlewomen for home comfort. Do-it-yourself carpets will be the envy and admiration of neighbors and friends.

Rectangular pom-pom rug

Would you like to have a soft rug at home, on which it is pleasant to lie down in front of the TV or play with your child? Then look at home for the remnants of the thread. If the hostess is fond of knitting, then usually there are always small hanks that are a pity to throw away, and they are stored for years in some box.

In addition, you need to find scissors, cardboard and a mesh base (plastic can be purchased at a hardware store). We will now tell you how to create a shaggy bedside rug at home step by step.

The video shows the whole process in more detail:

HEALTHY! If suddenly you didn’t find cardboard at home, then you can wind the yarn directly around four fingers of your hand (we don’t take the thumb), and the central thread will be tied between the middle and ring fingers.

If you decide to decorate the rug with small pompoms, then you will definitely find a table fork for winding the material. All four cloves are wrapped, and a long thread is tied between 2 and 3 cloves.

Oval carpet of braids woven from T-shirts

A nice, homemade rug from old things for legs in the bathroom or bedroom will turn out from old T-shirts (an old T-shirt is also suitable). Cotton is an eco-friendly and soft material. Just three steps and the masterpiece is ready! You will need to select about 13 T-shirts. To take plain or colored T-shirts - it depends on your taste and interior.

First step. Production of knitted threads

We have placed the production of knitted stripes with illustrations and a detailed description in the photo.

Here's how to cut a t-shirt to make a single whole ribbon:

Second step. Braid weaving

From the resulting balls, we take three and begin to weave a braid. When the strip ends, we weave the next strip and so on until the fabric runs out. If the colors are different, then try to alternate them when weaving.

When working, it is convenient to weave the braid, holding it between the knees, and so that the braid is dense and does not bloom, use a clothespin when moving on to the next piece of weaving.

As a result, you will get a long multi-colored braid. Bend the ends and sew with a strong thread.

Third step. Machine stitching

Take a sewing machine and a knitting needle, put a zigzag on the stitch. Next, select the shape of the product: an oval or a rectangle (you get a track).

In an oval rug, you need to decide on the length of the center, the longer the center, the longer the rug. The smaller, the wider the oval will be.

We take the end, measure the length, do the inversion correctly - clockwise. We apply further the second row of pigtails.

Start stitching where the first turn is.

We pass between the two braids in a zigzag. We reach the place where the braid begins and carefully bend it under the next layer and again make a turn.

And so on in a circle (if it is an oval shape) or along a snake (if it is a rectangular shape) until the jersey braid ends.

HEALTHY! The product is slippery, so you can sew or glue it to a non-slip base for safety, which can be found in the IKEA store called STOPP FILT.

Round rug made of twine and waste fabric

Where can you use scraps of fabric? In no case do not throw it away, because if you have a lot of free time, using this method you can make a small cup holder or a large interesting carpet on the floor with your own hands.

For this work, you will need a lot of unnecessary scraps of rags, twine (jute rope or twine), a hook, a needle and thread.

Step by step instructions for work:

When the first skein of fabric ends, with the help of a thread and a needle, we sew the end from the next skein. Or we twist the end and the beginning together, then you can not use the needle.

HEALTHY! It is better to make a rug on a flat surface. If you see that it begins to bend, then you can make two columns from one loop. In some places, you can remove fabric strips to level the product.

The craft will last a long time if used nylon tights not fabric.

Instead of scraps of fabric, you can also use a clothesline, instead of twine, strong threads. As a result, the rug will be harder and tougher. Look at the photo for more details:

Rope or jute rug

To create this handcrafted masterpiece for decorating a nautical or Scandinavian-inspired room, choose rope. You will also need a sharp knife, silicone glue and a thick fabric for the base. Making this craft yourself is quite simple, here is a description:

Everything ingenious is simple and fast!

The second version of needlework made from these materials is a rectangular door mat for the hallway. Let's describe its creation step by step.

To make it, you will have to buy the cheapest rug in the store, or look around the house for an old one lying around in the pantry. The main thing is that it fits in size.

Patchwork rug and clothesline

Sometimes thin shreds remain from needlework and the housewives throw them away, believing that they are good for nothing. But if you add a clothesline and a thread with a needle to them, you get a pretty handmade floor rug. What do I need to do:
  1. We take a clothesline and a piece of fabric. We begin to wrap the rope tightly in a spiral.
  2. When the length of the wrapped rope is enough to form two rows, we turn the rope into a steering wheel and on one side (wrong side) we begin to sew the rows of the rug together. One stitch in the first row, the second stitch in the second row and pull them together by pulling the thread.
  3. We make the next circle and stitch again. When one shred ends, then put the next one on top of the end of one piece and then wrap it around the rope. If the pieces do not hold well, then you can grab them with a needle and thread.

This is how you can give thin shreds of unnecessary rags a second life.

Rug from old towels

Old terry towels on the farm are often used as rags, but needlewomen can also create a chic bathroom carpet from them, and nothing needs to be sewn.

Follow the steps below for a soft and fluffy result:

  1. We find terry towels that you are going to get rid of.
  2. Cut them into strips about 2 cm thick and 12 cm long.
  3. We buy the desired size of a plastic mesh in a hardware store.
  4. We tie the cut rags to the grid, fixing with a double knot.
  5. When the cells are large, you can tie two strips to one partition.
  6. Alternating colors, you can get a pattern on the rug.

The original design version of the rug made of various materials

The advantage of the next product is that you can use any materials for its manufacture: threads of different colors, ropes, pompoms, braid, strips from old clothes (denim stripes look good), grass yarn, etc.

Base making:

ATTENTION! All warp threads should be on one (front) side of the cardboard, on the reverse side there will be only loops between the cuts along the edges.

Weaving:

waterproof polyethylene mat

A good country option for the street. Such crafts can be made from plastic bags accumulated at home. A real hostess always has a package with packages at home. Products from garbage bags are softer, especially since now you can find almost all colors in stores: purple, yellow, black, red, blue, green, etc. You can make rainbow options or with a gradient. You open the door, and there is a rainbow at your feet.

You can watch the tutorial on how to make it in the video:

Stages of work:

  1. We fold the bag four to six times so that a thin strip is obtained: at the bottom of the strip is the bottom, at the top are the handles of the bag. We cut off the bottom and handles, cut the remaining strip into pieces of 3-4 cm.
  2. We straighten the resulting pieces, rings are obtained.
  3. We tie the rings together with a loop. We take two rings. We thread the first inside the second ring, then straighten the ends of the first ring and pull one end into the other and get a loop, fix the loop on the second ring.
  4. We make a ball of polyethylene rings that has turned out several meters and start crocheting.
  5. To knit a circular product, start with a ring of 6 loops, then the rows are knitted in single crochet columns, two columns are knitted from each loop in the next row (or at your discretion, the main thing is that the work does not bend).

Carpet is an indispensable thing in everyday life. It is he who creates the comfort of the apartment and retains heat. Despite the fact that more and more people are putting parquet and linoleum on the floor, rugs are still popular and in demand. They are located mainly in the bathroom and toilet, on the balcony, in the hallway near the door. The variety of carpets in stores is great, but you can easily make a cute rug with your own hands. For this, it is not necessary to have special skills. Creating a rug requires perseverance and a sufficient amount of time. However, this is not so important, because in the end you can get a unique and inimitable product.
The main thing is the desire to create and boundless imagination.

To make a rug we need:

1. The base of the rug. Canvas or construction metal mesh is suitable for this. They can be purchased at sewing and hardware stores. It is better to choose a larger grid or canvas to make it easier to work.
In our case, there is a metal mesh 50 * 30 cm. You can use a larger or smaller base, depending on your desire.

2. Fabric. To create a rug, unnecessary T-shirts, sweaters, T-shirts and other things are suitable. It is worth giving preference to knitted fabrics, as they are soft and more convenient to work with.

3. Scissors. It is necessary to make sure that the scissors are comfortable to hold, since they will have to work for a long time, and it is very easy to rub corns on the fingers. You also need to pay attention to the sharpness of the tool, on which the speed of cutting the fabric depends.

First you need to cut the existing fabric into strips 1-2 cm wide. It's okay if the pieces come out uneven, as it won't show up in the finished rug.

Next, our strips should be cut into smaller pieces. In order for the rug to be with a small nap, the strips should be 6-9 cm long. If you want to achieve a large volume of the product, parts of the fabric should be made 10-15 cm.

If you're using multiple fabrics, it's best to sort them by color to make it easier to work with. There should be enough clothes and fabrics to make the rug soft and fluffy. It took 2 sweaters and 4 t-shirts to create a rug of our length.

After preparing the necessary material, you can get to work. A strip of fabric must be threaded into the hole in the mesh.

Then tie a regular knot.

Strips of fabric should be placed close enough to each other.
In this way, you need to fill all the empty space on our basis.

Having different fabrics, you can alternate colors to make the rug brighter and more interesting. You can give free rein to your imagination and create various patterns and patterns from colored fabrics. In order not to get confused, you can draw the desired picture on a piece of paper and look at it when tying fabric knots on the grid.
In our case, there is a simple mixture of different colors.

After filling the entire space on our grid, we get a soft and fluffy rug.

Spring is the time for general cleaning. Therefore, we should look into our closets and sort through everything in order to get rid of the junk stored there. But do not rush to get rid of it for good, because everything has the right to a second life. For example, you can create rugs from old things with your own hands and give yourself new emotions and memories.

Rugs from old things, what techniques can be used

Old things are an excellent material for creativity, which a thrifty housewife will always have. T-shirts, unusable towels, and any wardrobe items can always get a second life. But still, it is very important to understand that in order to create new things from old ones, it is necessary to pay attention not only to the material for creativity, but also to the technique that we choose for this.

After all, rugs from old things can:

  • weave,
  • to tie,
  • sew.

And we will try to create a rug from old things with our own hands step by step, using detailed master classes and getting an excellent result.

Weaving

Weaving is one of the oldest and most proven techniques for creating carpets. After all, this does not require a lot of knowledge or skills. And sometimes the most simple tools are required, easily replaced with something that is always at hand. And therefore, it is worth starting to create your first rug with weaving or weaving.

Weaving according to the principle of macrame

If it seems to you that macrame is only suitable for creating and small elements, then now we will dispel this belief. After all, if instead of a thin lace you take something more voluminous and dense, then the result will be completely different.

In weaving rugs from old things, there are no difficulties or tricks that are inaccessible to novice craftswomen. As in any technique, the main role here is played by a sense of taste and the desire to create. Therefore, any set of old things can easily turn into a charming bedside rug with a little effort.

Basic knots and pattern combinations are great for weaving. But it is worth considering several factors:

  • the rug is used actively and therefore needs to be washed from time to time,
  • they will not only stomp on it, but they can sit, lie down or use it as a bedding on a chair,
  • it must fit into the overall interior.

That is why when choosing knots, do not forget that the rug should:

  • look like a new, not battered doormat,
  • have a dense structure so as not to crumble in your hands and not turn into a string bag,
  • be not easily soiled and not voluminous, for the convenience of its cleaning.

And therefore the most common way of weaving at present is to use the principle of knitting with a French bracelet.

Such a charming rug will definitely not go unnoticed in the house and will be beneficial to emphasize the interior and taste of the hostess. And to create it, you will need not so much:

  • wide strips from old things,
  • adhesive tape,
  • scissors,
  • thread and needle.

First, lay out the 5 strips in the order you like best. Next, fold 5 more strips, but already in a mirror image.

It is most convenient to fasten all tips from the beginning side with adhesive tape. This will allow you not to be distracted during the weaving process, as well as clearly define the sequence.

So, when all the tapes are laid out, we take the leftmost one, take it to the side and fold it so that they lie on all the others, creating the number "4". We start the working tape for the next one and tie the first knot.

We continue to tie the same knots on the next 3 ribbons, and then we move to the opposite side, starting to weave towards the first series of knots.

When both work tapes meet in the middle, tie them and continue weaving from the edge. After reaching the desired length, simply grab the last knots with a strong thread and trim the rest to make a cute fringe.

Do not forget that it is not necessary to twist the braid, it can be folded in a snake or laid parallel to one another to make a charming rectangular fringed rug.

Knitting rugs from old things

Rugs from old things do not have to be woven; knitting is considered a more common solution for creating them.

Even if this is your first time crocheting, you will be able to create a charming and practical decor item. After all, it is large knitting that will help you quickly understand the intricacies of crocheting. And a pattern from the simplest single crochets can look very bright and original if you choose the right yarn.

Moreover, the yarn is also made from old things. This is how things can go:

  • old t-shirts,
  • jeans belts,
  • just thin strips of fabric left after tailoring outfits.

It is enough to know and be able to knit increments, and then it’s a matter of technology.

If the yarn taken for the rug seems loose or thin to you, you can use a great trick - at the beginning of knitting, insert a strong cord into the posts and continue to tie it. So your spiral will keep its shape perfectly.

For a more openwork rug, knit with double crochets, increasing their number in each row. But keep in mind - such knitting will be beautiful, but less dense.

Openwork rug

It is worth noting that you can knit a rug from old things without a hook - an interesting knitting technique from rings on your fingers will help you cope with the disposal of small pieces without spending extra effort and without forcing you to buy some special tools.

You can learn how to knit from rings with Olga Popsueva. In her video master class, she tells in detail how to weave a pigtail, and then form a rug out of it.

Patchwork

Speaking of using old things in making rugs, it's hard to ignore sewing. After all, they started a long time ago and independently of each other in different countries.

As now, women did not throw away old clothes, children's dresses or husband's worn shirts, preferring to collect them to sew, bedspreads, curtains and, of course, rugs. It is no longer a pity to trample, cut and collect such rags into various intricate patterns.

Fluffy mesh rugs

In the past few years, fluffy rugs have become very popular, in which it is so much fun for children to play and crawl. And it's just nice to immerse your feet.

High pile and soft texture won the hearts of craftswomen and housewives, and bright colors attract the attention of households. But most of all, the fact that you can make such a rug without using any special tools is pleasing.

A fluffy rug can be created in many ways:

  • tying the cuts in knots,
  • using a carpet hook,
  • wielding the simplest crochet hook.

The basis for us will be a mesh from a hardware store with a large cell or a bath mat with holes.

In addition to the basics, we also need:

  • fabric ribbons,
  • scissors,
  • hook (optional)

To begin with, cut short ribbons, but do not skimp on their length, because you need to take into account - they will fold in half, and even tie or otherwise be fixed on the grid. Therefore, it is better to make them longer, and then cut them as you like.

When everything is ready, the most important task remains for you - thread a strip of fabric into the cell so that both ends remain on the front side, and then you can tie them together with a simple knot, or pass through a loop using a hook.

When the flaps completely cover the mesh, you just have to cut them to the desired length and the rug from old things is ready to please you and your legs.

Fluffy rugs with a sewing machine

If you do not want to spend your time tying each individual tape, or you have not found a suitable grid, then you can go in a simpler way, for which we need:

  • an old pillowcase or a piece of fabric that will become the basis,
  • all the same ribbons from old things,
  • scissors,
  • sewing machine.

For such rugs, knitwear is best suited, because it is more elastic and soft. In addition, it is easy to sew on without fear of breaking the needle.

Bright carpet from old knitwear

Heart shaped rug

After you cut the desired number of ribbons, pull them in length so that they twist a little, and then simply apply to our base and sew row by row in the middle.

Don't worry if the strip doesn't lay flat, you can always trim the entire pile, aligning it to the desired length.

Rugs from old things, what will go into business?

We learned about the techniques for creating a rug from old things, now it’s worth talking about what can serve as material for them and how best to bring your idea to life.

Given the density, quality and size of the old thing, you can choose how to reincarnate it. That is why we would like to tell a little about how and from what rugs are made by modern needlewomen.

Rugs from old jeans

The first thing that comes to mind and requires regular disposal is jeans. Denim has conquered our hearts for a long time and there is not a single fashionista or mod who does not have jeans in his wardrobe. And despite their strength and versatility, they still rub, stretch or otherwise become unusable.

Throwing them away, of course, is a pity, so we collect them on a separate shelf so that we can sew something later.

But for sewing, you need patterns, a sewing machine, and sometimes also a place. While making a do-it-yourself rug from old jeans will not be difficult, everything from the canvas to the pockets and belt will go to work.

Just choose the technique and match the flaps to it:

  • cut them into long strips and weave a rug on a loom,
  • weave long braids and gather them into a round rug,

  • arm yourself with a large crochet hook and knit any shape using cut strips instead of yarn,
  • weave the strips together according to the braid principle and sew on a typewriter or by hand.

And the cat liked it)

Given the strength of the material, this rug will serve you for more than one season.

Rugs from old T-shirts

But more often than jeans, we wear T-shirts. After all, we use them every day, grow out of them, stretch them, stain them with paint and just get tired of them over time.

Let them no longer be worn, but the knitwear that is used to make T-shirts can be an excellent material for creativity. They can make excellent potholders, coasters, bags and, of course, rugs.

How to make knitted yarn with your own hands

When we look at handmade rugs from old T-shirts, at first we can't believe what they're made of! After all, craftswomen crochet from something very similar to yarn, and not to an old T-shirt.

However, do not be surprised by this and do not think that there is some kind of trick here. Everyone can turn old T-shirts into knitted yarn.

To do this, just follow the detailed video master class on the Utilitarian Needlework channel, in which we will be taught how to make as much yarn as possible from an old T-shirt for new rugs.

T-shirt - a versatile material for creating your own rug

And after preparing the yarn, you can already try your hand at creating rugs from old T-shirts with your own hands. After all, they can:

  • to tie,
  • weave,
  • cut for fluffy rugs,
  • sew braids pre-woven from them.

And for this you only need a couple of T-shirts and the desire to create.

Moreover, any patterns of napkins or lace are suitable for crocheting, and you can weave according to the previously described principle of a French bracelet.

Or choose your favorite t-shirts, cut them into pieces and sew them together like a quilt, so you save memories and don't throw anything in the trash.

Rugs from old tights

The most consumable element of the wardrobe at all times are tights. They are so quickly torn and become unusable, and even have some seasonality, that at some point we all think - should we come up with something after they have served their time?

And we found the answer - rugs from nylon tights that you can make yourself! After all, they can be an excellent yarn for knitting or weaving a new rug - durable and practical.

The main thing is to know a few tricks:

  • to get a long strip from one pair of tights, you just need to cut off your socks and panties, and then cut the remaining pipe in a spiral,
  • do not tighten knitting so that the rug from old tights does not deform and lose shape over time,
  • nylon can be dyed to make your rug brighter - just use fabric dye and follow the instructions on the pack.

Rugs from old tights can be created with your own hands and without a hook. They can be:

  • sewn from braided braids,

  • woven on a loom

  • woven on a hoop.

And children's tights, which are more often collected in our bins, are perfect for knitting on fingers. All you need is to cut them into rings, and then use the video tutorial from Marina DIY Dolgih:

Rugs from old towels

And even old towels can be used in the world of rugs. Due to their density, length and ability to absorb moisture well, they can give us an excellent accessory for a bathroom, bath or balcony, where you always need to keep your feet warm and dry.

A do-it-yourself rug made from old towels is as simple as any other. It is easy:

  • weaves
  • fits in
  • weaves
  • curls up.

In general, it is created in such a way and in the technique that fell on your heart.

And if you want to give life to terry towels in this way, then try to make a fluffy rug on a construction grid.

As you can see, when cleaning the house, you should not rush to throw away things that have served their purpose. Old t-shirts, towels and even tights can inspire you to create something new and no less useful than their original purpose. Just be smart and your home will be full of new, soft and fashionable rugs that you can create without spending anything but your time, and getting a charge of emotions and good mood!

Making a carpet on your own to create home comfort in an apartment or house can seem like a rather difficult task. But in fact, everything is much simpler than it seems at first glance, and everyone can make exclusive designer jewelry. Such a carpet will perfectly replace an expensive Persian one, plus it is also much cheaper in terms of the cost of materials. And for many techniques, old trimmings of threads, yarn, scraps of fabric are also suitable.

Simple knitted carpet with your own hands

You can knit a bright, beautiful, memorable rug that will decorate both a rather restrained and frivolous interior, using the yarn that you have left after knitting. For this, a hook is used. First, a mesh base is created, and then it is tied with columns according to the instructions. The work is quite simple, any craftswoman who has mastered the basics of crocheting will cope with it.

For a rug measuring 45 * 47 cm, you will need to tie a grid of 1 * 1 cm, where 47 is the height. It is knitted with a dark thread, and then the "body" of the carpet is filled with bright residues according to the scheme.

A diagram of how to knit a carpet with your own hands is attached.

fluffy carpet

A soft, fluffy carpet can be made using yarn, but in a different technique. A couple of hours of work and a minimum of financial investments - and you are the owner of a warm exclusive.

It is also made of threads, but here we need a mesh. You can knit it, or you can buy a nylon one at a hardware store, or you can take a multi-colored floral one as a basis. Even coarse burlap will do. Thus, you can save a lot of time. Next, you need to cut out the base of the shape we need: a circle, a square, a trace of an animal - everything that fantasy tells.

We cut the threads 10 cm long. To make the work go faster, you can wind them on a cardboard of the right size and cut them on both sides. We take a thick hook in our hands. We fasten the threads on one side of the grid, folding in half. A loop is captured with a hook and drawn from the "native" cell to the next one. We wind the ends of the thread into the loop and tie.

Pompoms are another interesting material

The third type of rug that can be made using thread is from pompoms. Very original products are obtained. You can dream up and add to the rug, for example, a head and paws, imitating the skin of an animal.

First of all, since we have a pom-pom rug, we need to make them. There are two options here: with a base and without. Both manufacturing options can be seen in the photo below.

In addition, we, as in previous versions, will need a base. You can also crochet it or buy a ready-made mesh with cells of the right size. We sew all the elements. Do not forget that the pompoms should fit very tightly to each other so that the rug looks nice and neat.

When all the "fluffies" are in place, cut out of dense fabric and sew on the "bottom" of the carpet, its wrong side. After that, the rug is ready.

Do-it-yourself carpet from scraps

After sewing, especially if you get carried away with it, a whole pile of patches usually remains. You can make a rug out of them, even without knowing how to knit at all. All you need is your hands, fabric, thread and a needle. And also a little patience - where without it?

Our rug will be a twisted pigtail in the form of a spiral. And it will be woven from patches. Cut them into strips. We take three pieces (of the same color or different - depending on your taste and idea), fasten the end with a pin and start weaving. The rug will only be as hard as the tightness of the braid.

When it is the desired length, we collect it in a spiral, stitching it with threads. The desired size has been reached and the product is ready.

rope carpet

An original interior solution will be a carpet made of rope. All you need is the rope itself, thick fabric, silicone glue and a sharp knife.

Cut out the base of the fabric in the form of a circle, hem the edge.

We wind the rope in a circle.

When it reaches the desired diameter, fix it with glue.

And finally glue the backing.

How to make a knitted rug

You will need:

black marker

Threads of different thickness

Scissors

Jewelry (optional)

1. Cut out a large circle from cardboard.

2. Draw lines on the circle as shown in the image. Start with a line going horizontally, then vertically. Next, divide the quarters of the circle into halves, etc.

3. After you have the desired pattern, make cuts of 2-3 cm at the edges of the cardboard circle (where your lines end).

4. Start tying the thread around the cardboard circle, passing it through the cuts. On the front of the circle, everything will look neat, but on the back, the drawing can be a little chaotic - that's okay, because. we only need the front side.

5. When you have threaded all the lines, tie it into a knot.

6. Prepare all the threads of different thicknesses and start knitting in a spiral, starting from the center of the circle. Insert each thread as shown in the image (above the knitting needle - below the knitting needle). To begin with, you can thread the thread through 2 knitting needles at once.

7. At the end you will have a beautiful rug that can be decorated with pompoms, for example.

Do-it-yourself rug from old towels (master class)

You will need:

old towels

Scissors

Sewing machine (needle and thread)

1. Cut your towels into several strips. In this example, each strip is about 3 - 4 cm wide.

* For convenience, you can fold each towel in half, cut into 2 halves. Fold each half in half again and cut into fold lines, etc.

* It is desirable that all towels are approximately the same size.

2. Fold together 3 strips of different colors and secure them with threads (sew the ends). Start weaving a "pigtail" from these strips. After finishing weaving, stitch the ends again.

3. Make several of these "braids" and then connect them into one long strip with a needle and thread (or a sewing machine).

4. Start rolling your long strip into a spiral, securing it with thick thread.

5. Fasten the entire structure and turn it over so that the seams are on the bottom.

How to make a "French Bracelet" rug

You will need:

Old fabric 2 colors (you can use old T-shirts)

* The width of each piece of fabric is 20-25 cm and the length is 3 meters. If you are using old T-shirts, then you can connect several pieces with a thread and a needle.

Scissors

Needle and thread

adhesive tape

1. Lay out 5 strips of different colors in the order you want them to look on the future carpet.

2. Next to the 5 laid out strips, lay 5 more strips in a mirror image.

3. Take the first strip, in this case pink, and tie it as shown in the image. First, bend the fabric so that the number 4 is formed.

4. Continue tying the pink stripe around the rest of the stripes until you reach the middle.

5. Start doing the same on the opposite side, tying another pink strip around the remaining 4 strips. Start also with the number 4, but in a mirror image.

6. When two pink stripes meet in the middle, tie them together.

7. Repeat the same with the subsequent, remaining strips.

*Choose the length of the rug yourself.

8. Start another rug, choosing the same colors. After that, connect both rugs with a thread and a needle.

* If you wish, you can make one or more similar rugs, which can then be sewn into one large carpet.

9. Extra parts can be cut off, and the ends can be secured with a thread so that they do not spread.

Rug woven from shreds

You will need:

Dense canvas (basis for carpet)

Pieces of fabric

black thread

Scissors

Adhesive for fabric

adhesive tape

Protective coating spray (if desired)

1. Choose the size of the carpet and prepare the right size carpet.

2. Prepare long strips of fabric. Each strip should be about 6-7 cm longer than the main part of the carpet.

3. Prepare a few bunches of 3 strips and start weaving a "pigtail". You need several blanks, then to combine them into one carpet.

* For convenience, secure the ends of each blank with duct tape.

* Do not weave to the end - leave some fabric unwoven.

4. Apply glue to a dense canvas. No need to skimp on glue.

5. Gently place the blanks on the canvas so that they stick.

6. Connect all the workpieces to each other with a needle and thread.

7. Remove the adhesive tape from the ends. Trim the ends so they are even.
