Handmade braided leather cord. Do it yourself leather cord

Usually a cross is put on after the sacrament of baptism. You can wear it on a chain or a special ribbon. The cross is considered not only a symbol of Christianity, it is also a talisman. It is worn under clothes, but it is not forbidden to put it on top. Can be combined with patterns or other decorations. However, the cross must be worn on a separate string (chain). Putting it on a rope, the question often arises of how to tie a knot.

Knots for tying a cross rope

There is no specific technology for tying knots (their number, shape, size). It is worth using the method that is convenient, easy to perform, reliable and durable. There are many types of such nodes.

Some of the easiest ways are the following nodes:

Straight

mother-in-law

You can use options a little more complicated:

Surgical

Step 1. The edges of the cord overlap.

Step 2. Re-turn around.

Step 3. The ends are brought out on top of the twist and crossed.

Step 4. Pulling on the ends, the knot is tightened.

Flat

Step 1. A loop is made on one side. The second part is superimposed on it.

Step 3. After drawing yourself from above, it is output from the loop from below.

Step 4. Pulling on both ends, the knot is tightened.

The tips on the knots, for the reliability of the ligament, can be processed with a lighter (burned).

Types of cords for a cross

Laces (another name for gaitana) used to wear a cross are divided according to the materials of manufacture into the following types:

  • Leather;
  • rubber;
  • Silicone;
  • Silk;
  • Textile.

Leather gaitana.

Leather gaitans are durable. They are elastic, treated with special solutions that repel moisture. On sale there are models with inserts and clasps made of precious metals (gold, silver). For massive crosses, thick braided laces are suitable. More elegant products, look good on thin leather ropes. This natural material is suitable for everyday wear, complementing any look.

Cords made of rubber and silicone are also not afraid of moisture, have flexibility, softness and at the same time good strength. Silicone gaitans, unlike rubber cords, have a glossy appearance. It remains throughout the entire time of wearing.

Silk braid for a cross.

Silk laces and cotton ribbons can be bought directly at the church, during baptism. They can have a variety of colors, wash well and have a delicate texture. These gaitans are perfect for kids. They do not irritate the baby's skin, they are easily cleaned from pollution while bathing the baby.

To tie such ropes to a child should be too long. The laces should not be tangled, clinging, be comfortable when moving and not choke the child (it can be easily removed if necessary without untying the knot). The knot should be made small in size, no matter what irritates (rubs) the baby's skin.

How to weave a rope for a cross

You can weave a rope (lace) for a cross with your own hands, with a little patience and perseverance, using several simple methods.

The first way to make a two-color weave.

This round cord is made from four strands:

  1. Threads of different colors are taken, fixed.
  2. Dark colors are located above and below, light colors are in the middle.
  3. Dark threads are intertwined with light ones, being constantly above and below them.

The second is a spiral two-color ribbon. In this version, the threads are knitted alternately with a regular knot (dark in light and vice versa).

Another easy way:

  1. Fix one end of the thread motionless.
  2. The other is to start twisting.
  3. Fold the resulting lace in half (it will twist itself).
  4. Straighten the creases, tie the ends with knots.

You will get a simple, twisted rope for a cross.

When making leather crafts, it often becomes necessary to make a leather handle or a loop for fastening, and sometimes just decorate the product with some decorative element.

So, for example, in the manufacture of the next leather keychain I was faced with the need to make a decorative braided cord for attaching a key ring.

In search of materials on the technique of weaving leather cords, I visited Internet resources that were unusual for me, namely, forums of gunsmiths. And, I must tell you, I found a lot of interesting and useful information there regarding the manufacture of applied leather products and, in particular, leather weaving.

A simple way to weave a four-stripe leather cord

To weave a simple leather cord, you need to cut 4 strips of leather. The width of the leather strips depends on the desired thickness of the cord.

For my braided cord, I used strips of leather 2.5 mm wide. If it is necessary to weave a cord of a larger diameter (for example, for a bracelet or bag handle), the leather strips should be wider - 5-6 mm. In this case, to weave the cord, you will also need a base (for example, a textile cord), which will need to be braided with wide strips of leather.

As for the length of the leather cord, if the cord is to be of short length (say, for making a decorative loop or a leather bracelet), the leather strips are cut in a straight line. But for weaving a long leather cord, long strips of leather are needed.

Long leather strips are cut from a round piece of leather in a spiral:

How to weave a leather cord

1. We connect the prepared strips of leather into a bundle and fix their ends on one side.

It is very convenient to use a binder for this purpose, with the help of which leather strips can be hung up for the convenience of weaving a cord.

2. Conditionally number the leather strips from 1 to 4.

3. We start strip No. 1 behind No. 2 and No. 3, skip between No. 3 and No. 4 and lay on top of No. 3 (Fig. 1).

4. We start strip No. 4 behind No. 1 and No. 3, skip between No. 3 and No. 2 and lay on top of No. 1 (Fig. 2).

On the drawings from the book by I. Mitsel “Skin. Braided and embossed bracelets” clearly demonstrates the process of braiding with strips of leather of a textile base cord.

How to make weaving from leather? How to learn quickly? How to become a master and give beauty to yourself and your loved ones? We'll talk about this in the article. Fashion does not stand still. Very often in magazines, at fashion shows, leather dominates. Previously, leather products were reflected in clothing, but recently leather accessories are gaining popularity. Consider the basics of working with the material.

Needlework progress

The history of leather work is quite interesting. Processing began to be practiced from the Stone Age, when clothes made of skins, belts, belts and bags gradually appeared.

Weaving is a variant of leather processing, where craftsmen combine several techniques to create a product. Often in jewelry practice there are woven macrame elements made from lace.

What can you create from? It is easy to use unnecessary leather things. For example, gloves, briefcases, etc. But do not forget about the quality of the material. Pay special attention to thickness, elasticity and coloration. It will be more difficult to work if the product has a pattern or some kind of ornament.

But the masters advise not to remake the old into the new. It is better to spend money on new leather so that the accessory is worn longer and is attractive. Each thing has its own expiration date, so often unnecessary things can ruin all the work. Leather is sold in specialized stores. I am glad that there are many colors and options for products.

For beauty

It is easy to make bracelets with your own hands, which are becoming more and more popular. Such products look elegant and beautiful. It all depends on weaving. You need to purchase pieces of skin that will become the basis and cut them into strips. It requires few materials and a lot of attention to make.

So, let's begin. Consider several weaving options that are suitable even for men. The first option is a pigtail bracelet.

It is thin, delicate and looks beautiful on the hand. Such an accessory is multifunctional, because it can be worn at any time of the year.

We need a leather blank. If there is none, then cut a wide strip of leather, put buttons at the ends, as the diagram shows.

Depending on the fittings, the style of decoration changes.

The second option is "Women's Secrets". The accessory is suitable for bright summer outfits. You can choose the color yourself, for all the will of ideas. The technique is simple, even a child can handle it.

Take a thread of three colors, a strip of leather, several chains, a plug with a clasp, scissors and glue.

  1. We cut the thread into 9 parts (20 cm in two pieces). We lay them out in threes, after fixing the edges.
  2. We start to weave. Follow every movement so that the product is smooth and beautiful.
  3. At the end, pay attention to the clasp. Fasten the bracelet before trimming the ends. Lubricate the ends of the bracelet and clasp with glue. Accessory is ready!

To make sure it works correctly, look at the photo:

The third option is an unusual braid.

  1. To get a wicker product, we take three identical leather ribbons.
  2. Remember the numbering of the strips: 1-left, 2-in the middle, 3-right.
  3. We start weaving. We pass the edge of the product through No. 2 and No. 3, lower it down. The stripes are twisted.
  4. We pass the edge between No. 1 and 2, lowering down.
  5. We repeat the previous movements until the end of work on the product. We straighten.

Types of bracelets masters are divided into categories. They differ in design.

  1. Thin and thick accessories:

  1. Accessory with buttons, clasps:

  1. With patterns or rhinestones:

  1. With several turns around the wrist:

In addition to the usual weaving, there is a circular weaving. In addition to thin skin, you will need a rope. It is she who is braided with cords.

Progress:

  1. There are four birch cords about 2 cm long. We are preparing a rope of the same length. Pay attention to the diameter - from 3 to 5 mm.
  2. With glue (preferably "Moment") we connect the ends in a circle (in length - 15-20 mm). We fix the place of gluing with a thread.

  1. We divide the cords into two parts. Remember the left and right parts, mentally numbering. We take the left in the left hand, and the right - in the right.
  2. Let's use a schema.
  1. When the length is about 130-140 mm, then we fix the end with a thread.
  2. Lubricate the non-woven ends with glue. Leave to dry.
  3. Flatten the ends of the tubes. Make a place for the fixer, install.

Here is a result that looks like a whip:

Leather bracelets are not eternal, because they are made of delicate material. High-quality products are not always found in stores, so check its strength at the time of purchase, the presence of excess - threads. Of course, the leather belt also needs to be checked. Often they can wear out, wipe out and lose their shape. It is dangerous to buy products in online stores, there is no way to check the quality and verify the authenticity of the brand. Try to make your own accessory. It's easy to enjoy the job. But it is even more pleasant to wear a thing made by yourself.

Leather weaving. How to weave bracelets in various ways.

Weaving allows you to connect individual elements to each other into a durable product. Weaving elements are leather cords that are woven together into round or flat braids. All braided bracelets (except for “circular braids”) require leather with a thickness of 1.2-2.0 mm.
AFGHAN BRIDGE.

This type of weaving is widespread in the East. This is how waist belts, horse harness, bag handles, etc. are woven. By learning how to weave such a bracelet, you will simultaneously learn a simple and durable way to connect leather strips without using metal fittings. 1. Cut out two strips of leather 5 mm wide and 160 mm long.
2. Use a blunt awl to mark the edges of the slots according to the dimensions shown here, or change them as desired.

RULE:
a) the distance between the slots is equal to half the width of the strip;
b) the number of slots on the strips differs by one (in our case, these are six and seven).
3. Make cuts with a chisel with a blade width of 6 mm.
4. Sharpen the ends of the strips with a chisel or knife.
5. Take the strip with seven slots in your left hand, with the end free of slots towards you. Expand the nearest slot with a trowel or screwdriver. Pass the short end of the six-slot strip down through this widened slot, pull lightly and straighten the weave.
6. Short end of the six-slot strip, sand and glue the seven-slot strips to the bakhtarma.
7. Using a trowel to expand the nearest slot on the six-slot strip, pass the seven-slot strip through this slot from bottom to top.
8. Now the principle of weaving has become clear. Pass the bottom strip through the top strip each time.
9. At the end of weaving, hem the short end of the strip with seven slots and glue the strips with six slots to the bakhtarma.
10. The choice of the length of the bracelet is up to you. Trim off the excess from the ends of the strips. Punch holes. Install a fastener.
SINGLE PUZZLE.

This and the next bracelets are the embodiment in the skin of logical problems about braids. Fans of such problems are referred to books on entertaining mathematics.
1. Trim exactly one edge of the cooked leather.
2. Mark the ends of the slots, and then cut them with a knife. The length of the slots is 160 mm, the width of the cords is 3-4 mm.
3. Now cut off the second edge of the bracelet.
4. Weaving.
Mentally mark the top and bottom of the weave and number the cords from left to right: 1,2,3.
First cycle:
- 3rd between 1st and 2nd;
- the bottom of the weave between the 1st and 2nd (reversing the cords should not bother you);
- 2nd to 1st, 3rd to 2nd;
- the bottom of the weave between the 3rd and 2nd. After the end of the cycle, the normal arrangement of the cords is restored.
Second cycle:
This cycle can be repeated 2-3 times until the end of weaving.
- 1st to 3rd;
- the bottom of the weave between the 1st and 2nd;
- 2nd to 1st, 3rd to 2nd;
- the bottom of the weave between the 2nd and 3rd.
Stop when weaving becomes impossible due to the tight arrangement of the elements.
5. Using a blunt awl or ironer and tweezers, spread the weave evenly over the bracelet. Chop off the edges with a semicircular chisel, punch the bartack holes, set the bartack.

DOUBLE PUZZLE.

Puzzle variant. in which six are used instead of three strips of weaving. In this case, each pair of strips: is taken as one strip, and weaving is performed in the same way as in the case of a single puzzle. Options with nine polonium are possible, while three bands are taken as one.

GIRL'S SPIDER.

1. Cut three cords 220-250mm long and 3mm wide.
2. Gather the sides of the cords with a single strip of glue. The length of such an assembled strip is 25 mm. The opposite end of the cords must be free. Insert the assembled end into a clothespin or clamp.

3. Mentally number the cords from left to right: 1,2,3.
Weaving pattern: 3rd to 2nd, 1st to 3rd, 2nd to 1st, 3rd to 2nd, etc.

Make sure the cords are evenly spaced in the braid.
4. When the length of the braided part reaches 140mm. clamp the edge of the braided part with a large clothespin or pliers so that the loose ends of the cords remain free. Glue the loose ends into a single strip with glue.
5. Now chop off the edges of the bracelet with a chisel so that the length of the unbraided ends is 10 mm.

6. Make two parts for finishing the ends of the bracelet. Details are shown in the picture.
7. File the non-braided ends of the bracelet from the side.
8. Connect the ends of the bracelet with the details of the design of the ends with Moment glue, gluing the decorated parts to the ends of the bracelet.
9. Make and install the backtack.

A SPIDER FROM FOUR CORDS.

1. Cut four cords 220-250mm long and 4mm wide.
2. Gather the side surfaces of the ends of the cords with glue in one strip.
The length of this strip is 25 mm. The opposite end of the cords must be free. Clamp the assembled end with a clothespin.
3. Mentally number the cords from left to right from 1st to 4th.
Weaving scheme: 5th on the 2nd, 1st on the 3rd, 4th under the 2nd and on the 1st.

Further, the weaving pattern is as follows: the leftmost “ON”, the rightmost “ON and ON”.
4. Repeat steps. 4-9 "Girl's braid". The details of the design of the ends of the bracelet are similar to those given above. Change the width of the glued area according to the width of the cords.

CIRCULAR BRAID.

For its manufacture, in addition to thin skin, you will need a rope around which cords are woven.
1. Cut four cords 250 mm long and prepare a rope of the same length with a diameter of 3 to 5 mm.
2. Glue the ends of the cords to the end of the rope in a circle. The length of the glued area is approximately 15-20 mm. Additionally, secure the place where the cords are glued by tightly wrapping them with thread.
3. Divide the cords into two pairs - left and right. Mentally number the cords from left to right from 1st to 4th. Take the left cords in your left hand, and the right cords in your right.
4. Weave according to the scheme:
Draw the 1st cord behind the rope and skipping between the 3rd and 4th, lay it on the 3rd, draw the 4th cord behind the rope and, skipping between the rope and the 2nd, lay it on the 1st.

Next, weave like this:
the extreme left cord - under the extreme right, the extreme right - under the extreme left.
5. When the length of the braided part reaches 130-140 mm, you should fix the end of the weaving. To do this, wrap the end of the weave with a thread. Glue the loose ends to the rope.
6. Trim non-woven areas. Their length should be 10 mm.
7. Make two end pieces.
8. Lubricate the non-woven ends with Moment glue and leave to dry. Now grease the details of the design of the ends with glue from the side of the bakhtarma.
9. Fold the tubes of the decoration around the braided ends of the bracelet so that the threads are completely covered. Flatten the ends of these tubes by lightly tapping them with a shoe hammer. Perhaps the place of gluing on the tube itself will have to be glued additionally.
10. Punch holes in the bartack and install it.

HARLEQUIN.

This is a variant of the circular braid, which is woven with two pairs of cords - one of them is light, the other is dark. Place a pair of dark cords on the left and a pair of light cords on the right and follow all the instructions for weaving the previous bracelet.
