Review of g shock casio watch models. Review of the most iconic Casio watches

Watches are created in Japan in the development department of Casio. The first model with the name G-Shock appeared in 1983. The author of the first copy was company engineer Kikyo Ibe.

The idea of creating a watch that could withstand stress, humidity and falls was inspired by an incident with his own - he broke it. To create a truly reliable device, he had to test many of his prototypes. He simply checked them - he dropped them from the 10th floor. Naturally, before he managed to get a shock-resistant version, many copies were broken. As a result, being on the verge of dismissal, the engineer realized that he had to protect inner part it is possible with the help of an outer shell that absorbs all the impact energy, maybe even more than one. As a result, a product with a five-layer shell was released. Since the watches were mainly positioned for those whose specifics meant active actions. Then fans of extreme sports drew attention to them, and only later young people switched to the G-Shock fashion.

The main idea behind G-Shock is its ability to withstand the most difficult conditions operation. Therefore, after production, watches are tested for a long time on a variety of stands. Among them are centrifuges with high overloads, hammers hitting gadgets, diving under water, refrigerators, microwave irradiation, etc. After developing prototype testing, the company begins direct production on a mass scale. The main facilities are located in the city of Yamagata.

It is very difficult to get a job here - before entering you will have to go through a strict selection process to identify the best of the best. Naturally, such an innovative plant does not rely only on the hands of specialists. Most of the production consists of robots, working under the strict guidance of specialists, producing spare parts and elements for Casio watches G-Shock. Engineers also manually finish the cases and straps of future devices after stamping. By the way, a Casio doesn’t have to proudly display the “Made in Japan” inscription.

Even if the copy was created in one of the factories in China, it will be written like that on it. It’s just that the quality of Casio products remains at the same level, regardless of the place of production.

Universal instructions for setting up a Casio G-Shock watch

Despite the fact that this is just a watch, sometimes the user cannot immediately understand the settings and understand what this or that button does. We decided to talk a little about how to get to know G-Shock a little better after purchase.

Setting the time

All buttons on models are most often labeled. In general, their purpose and name are quite logical if you think about it. The "Mode" button usually indicates the mode, "Adjust" - adjustment or adjustment, "Forward" and "Reverse" - forward and backward. Of course, on different models buttons may be labeled differently. First, let's see how the Casio G-Shock GA 100 watch is configured, since all other models are basically configured the same way.

In order to switch from real-time mode to setup mode, you need to hold down “Adjust” for 3 seconds. Then using “Mode” you need to go to set the time by pressing several times. After finding the desired item, use the “Forward” and “Reverse” buttons to set the required time. After completion, you need to click on “Adjust”. This will return the gadget to real-time mode.

In order to adjust a watch like the Casio G-Shock GA-1100 WR20bar, you need to hold the “Adjust” button until the word ADJ starts blinking on the screen. After this, the button must be released. Then you need to sequentially set the values for the clock parameters, such as minutes, seconds, hours, day, month and year. To exit, you need to click “Adjust”. There are many replica G-Shock watches on the market, so it is impossible to guarantee that this instruction will fit it.

List of functions and buttons to launch them

Depending on the model, gadgets can have quite a wide range of functionality. Let's look at the individual functions in more detail. Many models can receive a radio calibration signal to clarify the time. This is done automatically, but can also be done manually. To do this, you need to hold down the lower right button for a couple of seconds. The abbreviation RCVD will appear on the screen, indicating that the transfer has begun. Signal reception can occur within 2-7 minutes. After adjusting the time, you can exit to real mode using the same button.

The updated Edifice line is surprising.

Each article about smart gadgets challenges supporters of classic chronographs and these “vibrating bracelets” of varying degrees of information content.

For example, I: have long been unaccustomed to ordinary watches. Already more than a year Apple Watch routinely taps on my wrist every day, informing me of various events.

But as soon as I picked up the new Casio Edifice, all the pleasure from wearing a square Apple gadget melted away in an instant.

New Casio Edifice models helped me feel harmony:

Snapping the steel bracelet onto my hand, I felt a certain peace, as if something was missing in my picture of the world before, but now everything was just perfect.

Efficient? Edefisi? Edifis!

Many people know Casio only for the sports line of their G-Shock brand watches, completely unaware of other wonderful chronographs called Oceanus, ProTrek, Baby-G and in particular Edifice, which will be discussed.

Now I'll reveal terrible secret: the only problem with the Edifice line – difficult name. I personally observed in a watch boutique how a potential buyer took a long time to gather the courage to ask the seller to show him a watch from the Edifice line, but then finally asked to see a watch with a more pronounceable name.

To buy correct watch, Remember: Edifice is pronounced "Edifis", with emphasis on E.

Fortunately, apart from the name, everything about the Casio Edifice watch is great: it looks stylish, shows the time down to tenths and hundredths of seconds, and the ones that fell into my hands are also synchronized with a smartphone via Bluetooth for setting up and adjusting world and local time .

Eternal Bluetooth in a semi-smart watch

The Edifice is not a simple chronometer: the watch has many crown combinations for different settings. In order not to suffer, the new Edifice EQB-700D-2A, EQB-500DB-2A and EQB-600D-1A2 models can be configured using a special application on your iPhone.

Just launch the application and press a button on the watch - after a few seconds the devices will see each other. In the app, you can sync the current time and choose any of 300 cities to display its time on the secondary watch face.

Casio Edifice does not need batteries to operate the Bluetooth module: the device is powered by our sun, thanks to Tough Solar technology, so the watch will never run out and will work forever ( or until the sun goes out, but that's a completely different story).

In fact, the Bluetooth connection in the EQB-600D-1A2 model is rarely needed - set the time once, and that’s it. IN next time You will open the application only if you are going on a business trip or vacation to another country.

Another thing with the EQB-700D-2A and EQB-500DB-2A chronographs: using the application you can set the alarm ( which is quite loud and will probably wake you up).

Of course, all this can be configured without an application, but why, when there is such a convenient tool?

My favorite model is with a 3D globe

This is Casio's most beautiful piece, in my opinion. The dial has a real 3D globe built into it, which also rotates.

The 3D globe complements the information of the second dial: the arrow on it clearly shows whether it is day or night in the city whose time is shown by the additional dial.

This is the first watch with such functionality from Casio. Having debuted at the prestigious Baselworld 2016 exhibition, the EQB-600 was liked by everyone without exception: both ordinary visitors and various critics and media representatives from around the world.

Edifice is a powerful argument

After the almost weightless Apple Watch, Casio watches quite noticeably pull on your hand. It's no joke, together with the steel bracelet, Edifice chronographs weigh almost 200 grams. But thanks to the correct distribution of weight, it is a pleasant 200 grams.

The steel bracelet is made to last, including the locking mechanism. Alas, for most people the “stock” bracelet size will be too large, I can tell you that for sure.

There are two ways to deal with this:

1. Surrender yourself to the hands of a watchmaker. In the presence of the right tool, the procedure for shortening the bracelet takes just a few minutes.

2. If you have straight arms, you can take thin object, such as an awl, hammer, pliers and plastic cover from any bottle.

The bracelet has links with arrows that show the direction in which direction the metal pins should be knocked out. You need to place the bracelet edge-on on the bottle cap and carefully use an awl and a hammer to knock out a couple of pins.

When the pins appear on the other side, they need to be pulled out completely with pliers. The main thing is not to lose the tiny metal “couplings” that hold the pins inside the links.

But it’s better to contact a watchmaker, of course.

Apple Watch - relax

A stylish chronograph dictates how you dress and behave. If with the Apple Watch you don’t have to worry about what to wear to work or to meetings, then by wearing the Casio Edifice you can plan your outfit more carefully.

The watch is yours business card. On most business meetings When shaking hands, the interlocutors form their first opinion about each other precisely based on this accessory.

Casio Edifice chronographs have a dark dial that perfectly matches the steel case and bracelet. This watch says that its owner is business man, who values versatility and loves to actively spend his free time.

Without a doubt, you need to twirl something like a watch in your hands to get a full impression. And I sincerely advise you to take a closer look at Casio Edifice, because Japanese masters They can't make a bad product.

One month ago, while watching videos about watches on YouTube, I came across a video review of Casio watches. These were ugly G-Shocks - some wildly bright colors. The guy, an American, painted them so colorfully that I decided to see what other videos he had. It turned out that he is an ardent collector of G-Shocks, and he has about fifty of them. Moreover, they are all almost the same, only a few episodes.

I noticed the G-Shock GA-1000 model on Ebay. I thought the watch looked very bright and cool (it was the model with the yellow strap). As a result, it was decided to take some model for a test and test the watch in the summer to see if it really is indestructible, as the legend says.

Fortunately, in Russia today some watches are cheaper or similar to prices on Ebay - “thanks” to the collapse of the ruble, the crisis and the subsequent desire of sellers to sell goods at old prices, just to get into the cache.

In short, I bought this watch for just over 10 thousand rubles. In orange version. Why, let them cheer you up with long and dull winter evenings. By the way, if you get tired of the bright orange strap, you can easily replace it with, for example, a black one. The straps are sold on Ebay and cost about 2 thousand rubles.

To be honest, I was afraid that the watch would seem too light and toy-like to me and that I would immediately want to give it to someone. However, when opening the treasured box (a classic iron box for G-Shocks, it looks like a tea can 🙂), I was at first pleasantly surprised by the appearance of the watch, and then by its weight.

Yes, it's not metal watch, but they are at least, felt on the hand. 100 grams, offhand. Probably due to the size, but still the rim of the watch is made of metal. So the watch feels good on your hand. And the fact that they are not heavy will be convenient when playing sports, including in the pool: with a heavy watch, your hand will get tired faster.

Casio G-Shock GA-1000: compass button
The strap is held tightly with bolts. Nothing is loose anywhere
Iron rim with function signatures

So here it is. First impressions.

The watch is cool. They're cool. It cannot be said that they are beautiful - there is no talk of harmony. If you want, this product is in the style of “Transformers”, such a thing is modern and sporty. A complex dial, a bunch of all sorts of indicators, all this was done precisely for the feeling of something complex, computer-made. Such a gadget. Even readability is sacrificed - to be honest, reading the clock is quite difficult, especially on small screens. Here, if you don’t look closely, you won’t be able to make out anything at all, and if a person has poor eyesight, then that’s it.

The lighting is excellent. There is some kind of phosphor on the hands, it shines mediocre. But there is also a special electronic backlight that operates from a button - it is bright and beautiful. It also turns on when you turn the clock. Cool!

The backlight looks cool in the dark. Lights for 1.5 or 3 seconds - optional
On the hand. Luminescent on the hands

The case, although it is plastic, is still neat, there is nothing loose anywhere, there is no feeling of cheapness, as is often the case with plastic watch. It's nice that the bezel ring is made of metal. The buttons are all neat and can be pressed confidently, but using them for various settings is not very convenient. I think this is due not only to the fact that they are recessed into the body, but also to the fact that they are polished, and it would be better if they were made with notches. The compass button is very convenient to use - it has notches.

Polished buttons for controlling functions and settings

But we will evaluate all this based on the results of use. So far we only have first impressions.

Setting the clock is difficult, but if you have a manual, then no problems will arise. Changing the time zone is the main ambush for everyone modern gadgets thanks to constant changes in Russia - the clock was successful. Everything here is implemented conveniently.

Setting mode indicator

What else. I also tried the alarm clock. Works. But it’s more convenient on a smartphone. Another compass - cool and convenient. But the thermometer shows some kind of crap - in the apartment it showed 29-30 degrees, although the watch was not worn on the hand and it was actually 25 degrees. The instructions say that the watch should lie in the shade for 5-10 minutes and should not be heated by hand. I don't know, we'll check later. But this format of use, in my opinion, is not very convenient.

The watch fits perfectly on the hand. I don't want to take it off! Very comfortable, you can barely feel the weight. The strap is great, it doesn’t rub anywhere, there are no inconveniences anywhere.

So I'll test it. Expect a final review in a few months.

In the meantime, intermediate conclusions.

It is difficult to read data from the dial, the controls require memorization, and the thermometer is a hassle. But there is a compass and an alarm clock, a bunch of chips, and indestructibility. And most importantly, the watch is really cool. For this they can be forgiven for everything. Or not? Time will show.

The name Mud Master can be safely translated as “lord of mud.” In these watches, Casio has combined developments presented in different series over the previous 20 years. For example, a comparison with MUDMan immediately arises; many models were released in this series, and they are distinguished by the protection of the body not only from water, but also from the slightest particles of dirt.

Technical characteristics of the Casio G-Shock Mud Master watch:

Case materials - stainless steel and rubber, sapphire crystal
Quartz movement, analog hands, backlit LCD screen
Protection from vibrations and dirt, small particles, the ability to work in dirt and change settings
Operation in the temperature range from -10 to +60 degrees Celsius
Solar battery Tough Solar, operation without recharging up to 23 months
Luminescent hands, screen backlight, which is activated both manually and automatically
Digital compass, altimeter, barometer, thermometer
Waterproof, submersible up to 200 meters
Time adjustment via radio towers, 6 channels (Japan (2), China, USA, England, Germany)
Stopwatch, timer, up to 5 alarms
Calendar
29 cities and time zones, automatic time setting and city selection
Dimensions - 59.5x56.1x18 mm, weight - 100 grams

In the MUDMan series, most of the watches belonged to the middle and lower price range. They were not expensive, and as a result, they did not try to add many functions to them, only the most necessary things or some features like a thermometer and a compass. From this point of view, MUD Master can be safely called the flagship of the line, this is indicated by both the cost and size, as well as the saturation of the watch with features. To some extent, MUD Masters look grotesque; they resemble a parody of a G-Shock: a very large body that cannot be hidden under a shirt; they will also stick out from under a sweater. But they immediately catch your eye. And this was done with intent, because protective properties watches fade into the background here, they are trying to make fashion accessory for those who rarely dive into the mud, but if they suddenly decide to do so, they want to have something interesting on their hands.

The model comes in three color solutions, each has its own code in the number GWG-1000-1A3 (GWG-1000-1A/GWG-1000-1A9). I have model 1A3 on my hands, other watches differ in the color of the strap and case.

The beauty of the watch is not that it is protected from vibrations and dirt, but that it uses analog hands, as well as a small LCD screen. It is the use of analog hands at Casio that is considered the most difficult in terms of technology and reliability of these watches.

Look at the diagram of how this clock works:

Each button is isolated, it can be pressed both under water and in mud, nothing will get inside the case. Also used inside special gel, it was called Alpha Gel. It absorbs vibration and shock, that is, the mechanism has mobility relative to the body, although the user does not see this in real life. The watch dampens vibration and does not transmit it to the mechanism, hence its massiveness; it is also due to technological reasons.

The rubber strap is difficult to break; it is attached with screws and has pressure plates made of rough rubber; they fix the bottom panel of the watch and create an arc so that the watch sits well on the hand. The bracelet cannot be called soft, but it is comfortable, the clasp is metal, in a classic design.

The dial has good readability in any conditions. Firstly, all the numbers are white and they are clearly visible even at a casual glance; the time is very easy to read. Secondly, the hands and numbers are covered with luminescent paint; they glow in the dark, although not very brightly.

But there is also LED lights white. You can press the button near the number 6, and it will light up for one and a half seconds. Also, by default, the watch turns on the backlight in the dark if you raise your hand. But you can also disable this option.

The control keys are located on both sides, they are large and comfortable, accidental presses are excluded. Also on the right is an analog head, with which you can change various settings; you pull it towards yourself and then turn it.

Let's go over the main features of the watch, and start with the built-in battery. It uses a battery that is recharged by a Tough Solar solar panel that has an unlimited service life. The company stipulates that the built-in battery will last about 10 years, but in practice 15 years are easily achievable, judging by previous models, although it all depends on luck. If you are not exposed to light, the battery life will be about 23 months from the date of production of the watch (and not the start of its use, as many for some reason believe). If necessary, the service can replace the battery; this will not be a problem, although the cost of the operation can be quite noticeable. But this will happen in 10-20 years, so usually no one thinks about it.

The built-in thermometer can show temperatures in the range from -10 to +60 degrees; it is best to remove the watch from your hand, otherwise the values will be far from real. This is self-indulgence, since there is almost never any real use for this data, unless you know exactly why you need the temperature here and now. The data is displayed on a small screen.

The altimeter allows you to determine the height above sea level (from minus 700 to plus 10,000 meters), but the barometer shows the change in pressure (up, down, draws a small graph) and displays the number in hPA (from 260 to 1100 or in mmHg from 195 up to 825 mm). Pleasant moment is that the instructions describe in great detail the operation of each of the sensors, making it possible to make amendments to their operation, which in theory will increase their accuracy.

The most interesting thing I note is that when sudden change parameters (you can also configure threshold values) the watch will report this. They will squeak, not loudly, but you can hear the sound.

The electronic compass shows the direction on the screen, and the second hand acts as a compass needle. Very convenient and simple. You can also correct the operation of the compass and make corrections; you just need to carry the instructions with you to remember the sequence of entering this menu.

Among the clock functions, I would like to note a timer, a stopwatch with the possibility of intermediate results, and up to five alarms (the clock beeps).

Along the outer edge of the dial are the names of 29 cities in the world, you can switch between them in manual mode or set up a second time zone, which is convenient. There is also a 6-frequency radio that will automatically set the time. But in Russia there are no radio towers and this function does not work.

There is a separate arrow on the screen that shows which mode (sensor) is turned on, this is convenient and helps avoid confusion.

It remains for me open question, who needs all these sensors and why. Of course, you can pretend that you need them vitally, but that would be a lie. Such watches can be bought for their appearance, they are good as an accessory, and are also suitable for extreme sports enthusiasts. The main thing is that in any conditions they have a well-readable dial. In Russia, the price of this watch will be 55,000 rubles, official deliveries will begin in November. On the gray market, watches already cost exactly the same, here the choice is yours, which watch to buy, official or gray. Compared to previous models, the price seems to be at least twice as high (no matter, the dollar price is also higher), but the positioning of this watch is completely different, and that’s not a bad thing. It seems to me that they will be perceived by many not as a tool, they will be in the minority, but rather as a kind of accessory in order to demonstrate their status. The model is not widespread, but that is why it is interesting. Not everyone can afford such a watch; it will be quite unique.

We are reviewing the most popular watch model - Casio G-Shock GA-100. The legendary watch has held the title of sales leader for many years and has received so many modifications that it is simply impossible to count them now. How were they able to attract the attention of buyers?

Today we will deal with this issue. Let's first go through the appearance of the model, and then analyze its functionality. Of course, let’s not forget to talk about their reliability, although by default it is clear that everything there is top level, but we will still make some clarifications.

Appearance

A recognizable image by everyone. Classic appearance, from which everyone starts. What else to say? The style is painfully familiar to everyone; many brands have taken it as a basis, trying in vain to repeat the success in their production, and most of the fakes are made for this model.

Housing material – polymer plastic, strap – elastic polymer material, glass – mineral and scratch-resistant, clasp – metal. Everything is standard and no surprises. The large case with buttons that are comfortable to the touch is ready to withstand immersion in water up to 200 meters and various mechanical loads (no fanaticism here!). The Casio G-Shock GA-100 fits comfortably on your wrist, looks good and evokes envious glances from passersby.

Separately, I would like to say about design modifications, which are difficult to even count. Every buyer, regardless of his preferences, will definitely find a color that suits his style. Here we can speak with confidence, since there were a huge number of variations and experiments with different prints, color rendering and color combinations.

Briefly about the dimensions: 55.00mm x 51.20mm x 16.90mm. Weight – about 70 grams.

Functional

From appearance let's move on to functionality. Let's go through the list of functions:

  • automatic backlight;
  • automatic calendar;
  • world time;
  • stopwatch up to 100 hours;
  • timer;
  • daily alarms (5 pieces);
  • alarm snooze function;
  • Time display in 12/24 hour format.

The main functional feature of the Casio G-Shock GA-100 is the ability to calculate the average speed of the route traveled. Useful option for active people who are accustomed to somehow recording their activity. An additional bonus is the included battery, which has a service life of 2 years.

That's all, actually. To summarize, I would like to note that these watches gained enormous popularity not only because of their unique design and set of useful functions, but also due to their affordable price, which remains so to this day. Browse the catalog
