Prenatal and postnatal bandages. How to choose a bandage for a pregnant woman Care tips

As the pregnancy progresses, the uterus also grows, putting pressure on the internal organs. Because of this, the load on the lower back increases, and the center of gravity shifts to the stomach. If you do not wear special supportive underwear, you can not only get stretch marks, rupture of abdominal tissue (diastasis), prolapse of internal organs, but also become the owner of banal daily discomfort.

Prenatal bandage in the form of panties from Crate, created specifically for women expecting the birth of a baby in the near future. By completely covering the abdomen, the model evenly distributes the load on the entire back, removing it from the uterus and internal organs, thereby making breathing and walking easier, especially during advanced pregnancy.

Indications and contraindications:

The use of bandage panties is indicated for pregnant women, from the twentieth to twenty-second weeks of pregnancy until the end, as well as for women with uterine hypertonicity (only on the recommendation of your obstetrician-gynecologist!). There are no special contraindications for using the bandage, the only exception being cases of allergic reactions to the material from which this product is made. However, before purchasing and using such a bandage, it is still recommended to obtain a preliminary consultation with your doctor.

Advantages of the D-423 model!

The peculiarity of this product is that, unlike the usual prenatal bandage belt, it covers the entire abdomen. This ensures reliable fixation of the vertebrae and support of the uterus, without harming the baby and without any delay in its development. The bandage tape, made of stretchy elastic material, passing along the lumbar line, under the abdomen, reduces pain and a feeling of heaviness. Suchmaternity panties stretches along with the belly, which grows, so you should not be afraid that the belt will suddenly become small and tight.

The peculiarity of a prenatal bandage like panties is that it perfectly protects the baby’s head from premature prolapse and protects the pelvic bones from premature divergence.

How to wear and how to care for the product!

Bandage panties that completely cover the abdomen should be worn in a lying position with or without a slightly raised pelvis over underwear. However, wearing such a bandage without underwear is unhygienic and requires you to wash the product every day. And this is not entirely convenient for a woman who needs regular tummy support. It is best to remove prenatal underwear while lying down. If you are not at home and it is not possible to lie down to put on the bandage, then carefully put it on, raising your stomach a little with one hand.

Signs that the jockstrap is not worn correctly:

    After you put on the product, pulsation begins in the groin and abdomen.

    The baby is too active, trying to literally “jump” out of the stomach.

    The shape of the abdomen is unnatural, elongated or skewed.

    The elastic belt does not pass under the stomach, but in the area of it.

    The bandage rubs the body, causing discomfort and a desire to remove it immediately.

Remember that the bandage should not be too tight, but should not hang, creating the impression of a “deflated balloon.”

    What is a bandage?

    Bandage (French bandage, from bander - to tie) - in medicine, a device for preventing stretching of the abdominal wall (during pregnancy, a weak abdominal wall), for supporting the abdominal organs (stomach, intestines, kidneys, etc.) when they prolapse, for closing the hernial orifice in case of abdominal wall hernias.

    Also modern bandages are designed to reduce the feeling of fatigue, fatigue, they relieve stress from the spine and help prevent lower back pain. One of the important factors is that the bandage helps to cope with the feeling of heaviness, prevents the appearance of stretch marks and makes walking easier.

    Indications for use:

    • pregnancy period is more than 20 weeks;
    • active lifestyle (women who are in an upright position for 2-3 hours a day or more, working expectant mothers, etc.);
    • curvature of the spine, pain in the lower back and back, or osteochondrosis;
    • leg pain, varicose veins;
    • predisposition to the appearance of stretch marks;
    • weak muscles of the anterior abdominal wall, pelvic floor;
    • multiple pregnancy;
    • repeat pregnancy;
    • A bandage is necessary for certain types of obstetric pathology (scar on the uterus, threat of miscarriage in the second and third trimester, excessive increase in the size of the uterus, low location of the placenta, change in presentation from pelvic to cephalic).

    Contraindications

    • The fetus has not reached its correct position until 30 weeks;
    • Surgical intervention in the area of wearing a bandage;
    • Gastrointestinal diseases (for peptic ulcers and other diseases, it is not recommended to squeeze the intestines, which during pregnancy already rise up and are compressed);
    • Some types of seams in the area where the bandage is worn;
    • Allergy to the material from which the bandage is made;
    • Skin diseases (eczema, tumors, wounds that will not allow the bandage to fit firmly to the body, and the bandage will cause discomfort);
    • Kidney diseases accompanied by swelling.

    What to pay attention to

    • When purchasing a bandage:

    This kind of purchase should be made in specialized stores, pharmacies or antenatal clinics. There they will help you choose the size and tell you about all the types and models. pay attention to material from which the bandage is made, it should be natural, since you will spend a lot of time in it. It's better to choose bandages with multi-level fasteners, they are the most convenient to use. If a woman feels comfortable and comfortable in a bandage, then the choice has been made correctly.
    But under no circumstances should you buy a used bandage., since during wear it could stretch and become less functional.

    • When using a bandage:

    Once the type and model of the bandage have been determined, the first thing to do is read the instructions. Almost all types of bandages must be put on and taken off in a horizontal position. This is required for proper fixation of the uterus and internal organs, as well as for gradually toning the abdominal muscles after removing the bandage.
    You can use the bandage for no more than 3 hours at a time, then a break of 30-60 minutes is required.

    Types of bandages and their characteristics:

    1. Prenatal bandage tape (belt).

    It is presented in the form elastic band or in the form of a belt with an elastic insert, which fits the abdomen from above, can effectively prevent the appearance of stretch marks. Most models have three Velcro flaps for additional size adjustment.

    The advantage of this model is the ability to adjust the fit due to the side flaps without removing the bandage. If during wearing it turns out that the belt has begun to put more pressure on the stomach or, on the contrary, has stretched, then the side flaps allow you to adjust the diameter without unfastening the bandage.

    You can put on the bandage tape either lying down or standing, therefore this model is considered one of the most popular today.
    However, such a bandage should be worn during advanced pregnancy (from 5 months), since in the early stages (the belly of pregnant women is small), the fixation will be insufficient.

    2. Prenatal bandage panties.

    This type of bandage is ordinary maternity panties with a thick elastic belt sewn into them. The bandage effect directly depends on the width of the tape, i.e. The wider the tape, the more effective it is. There is an insert in the front of this bandage. It fits the stomach, but does not press, which allows you to wear it until the last weeks of pregnancy.

    TO pros this bandage can be attributed variety of shapes and models. There are economical options, practical ones (having a bottom fastener, which allows you not to remove the bandage when visiting the toilet), aesthetic models (a variety of colors, with lace trim and even in the form of shorts).

    Cons is that when using a bandage instead of underwear, it will have to be washed periodically, and of course it is necessary to have several replaceable bandages (or the bandage should be worn over other underwear). It is also necessary to take into account that this type of bandage should be worn exclusively in a horizontal position, therefore, if there is no lower fastener, this makes it very difficult to use outside the home. Another disadvantage is the fact that many women swell during pregnancy or may gain extra pounds, which in some cases leads to chafing of the skin or indentation of the seams in the thigh area.

    3. Pre- and postpartum bandage (combined, universal).

    As the name suggests, it is used both before and after childbirth. This functionality is explained by the design of the bandage - a double-sided orthopedic belt with Velcro fastener, where one side is wider than the other and has a rigid base. Accordingly, the narrow side of the bandage is worn during pregnancy, fastened under the belly.

    After childbirth, the bandage is turned over with the wide side forward, tightening and fixing the stomach. Just like the bandage, the universal bandage has side flaps for adjusting the size. Women with back problems need such a brace, as it allows them to relieve stress on their back and provides additional support during pregnancy.

    One of the main advantages is the practicality of this type of bandage, and as a result, its cost-effectiveness. But we cannot fail to mention the fact that in the summer such a bandage will be clearly visible under clothes. And, just as in the case of a bandage-tape, the Velcro fastener will damage the clothes.

    4. Postpartum panties.

    These include grace panties, corset bandage panties and Bermuda bandages. They are panties with a tightening insert in the abdominal area.

    Just like prenatal bandages, some models have a bottom fastener and side fasteners to adjust the fixation of the anterior abdominal cavity.

    IN corsetry in bandages, the waist is higher than in grace, and is additionally reinforced with bones of various lengths, which allows you to correctly direct pressure to the abdominal muscles. Bermuda in turn, they meet aesthetic requirements. They are elongated along the hip line and reach almost to the knees, hiding figure flaws.

    5. Postpartum bandage tape (belt).

    Presented in the form of an elastic band with a width of 15 to 30 cm. Such bandages are often prescribed to women after a caesarean section, due to their tightening properties. In some models, bones are sewn inside, protecting the bandage from deformation during wear. The bandage is secured with a Velcro fastener.

    A distinctive feature of this type is cheapness. But, unfortunately, the tapes often “slip” during movement and have to be corrected. At the same time, the appearance deteriorates, which is important for a woman.

    Today, the choice of both pre- and postpartum bandages is large. For every taste and income. You can find exactly the type in which a woman will be most comfortable, and the model in which she will feel attractive. But you must remember that before such an important purchase you should consult your doctor.

    Dear friends, greetings!

    Today we will talk about prenatal bandages: what they are, why they are needed, when they are recommended to be worn, how to care for them, how to select them, etc., etc.

    To be honest, I wanted to leave this topic for later. But after analyzing your answers to the questions, I planned it for the near future.

    And today I came across two videos where respected doctors, talking about bandages for pregnant women, they were talking complete nonsense misled expectant mothers. Not intentionally, out of ignorance. Because the use of orthopedic products is still not taught in medical schools.

    And I also didn’t really know anything about this 6-7 years ago. We were not trained at the pharmacy. They themselves read something, thought about it, decided, decided, and that’s how they sold it. 🙂 The epiphany came only when I came to work at an orthopedic company.

    In a word, after these videos, my legs themselves brought me to the computer, and my hands drummed on the keyboard to help you figure out the bandages for pregnant women.

    Data

    So, prenatal bandage.

    Is it needed? Is it possible to do without it?

    Of course you can. In my time, 26 years ago, there were no such things. At least I haven't heard of any bandages. And nothing! She carried and gave birth, like millions of women in those years.

    Did you have back pain? What more! Sometimes it shot in the lower back so that it was impossible to take a step.

    According to statistics, 80% of women suffer from lower back pain in the second half of pregnancy. And that's why.

    Firstly, the belly increases. This means the load on .

    Secondly, As the belly grows, the center of gravity of a pregnant woman’s body shifts forward. Trying to maintain balance, she leans back a little and arches in the lower back. A “duck” gait appears.

    But the back muscles are not used to this position. They begin to “rebel”, i.e. strain, adapt to changing conditions. This causes pain.

    Third. Lastly During the first months of pregnancy, the placenta produces the hormone relaxin, which relaxes the pelvic joints so that the baby can be safely born. They become more mobile, and the work of the lower back muscles increases again.

    This is in healthy women. What if we take those who had spinal problems before pregnancy? Of course, under the influence of such loads they make themselves felt again.

    Therefore, prenatal bandages have two main tasks:

    • Support your abdomen from below to reduce tension in your back muscles.
    • Fix and thereby relieve the lower back, taking part of the load on yourself.

    And there is one more task, an additional one. This is a warning against stretch marks.

    Why do I call it additional? Because, if a normal bandage performs two main tasks one hundred percent, then, frankly, it does not cope well with the prevention of stretch marks.

    After all, what are stretch marks?

    The elasticity of our skin depends on the proteins collagen and elastin. They are produced by fibroblast cells of the dermis. During pregnancy, the skin stretches so quickly that its elastic fibers tear. At the same time, fibroblasts do not have time to synthesize good quality skin proteins and begin to “hack”, drive away defects, quickly patching up areas of tears with coarse scar tissue.

    But why do some women have stretch marks and others don’t?

    Because the skin of some women is naturally more elastic and able to adequately withstand the test of pregnancy. But others don't have this.

    It is no coincidence that stretch marks, or scientifically stretch marks, are considered a hereditary problem.

    The main trouble is that they cannot be removed by any cosmetic procedures: they are too deep. They can only be made lighter.

    And, nevertheless, a prenatal bandage helps to some extent curb the growth of abdominal skin, reducing the risk of stretch marks, but only in combination with cosmetic products that are well known to you.

    What types of prenatal bandages are there?

    Of the variety of bandages, 3 types can be distinguished:

    Prenatal bandage panties. It is made of soft elastic fabric, and under the tummy there is a ribbon made of virtually the same material.

    As the abdomen grows, the elastic tissue stretches.

    pros: cute, similar to regular underwear, do not cause any discomfort.

    Minuses:

    To be completely honest, I think it's stupid. Regular women's underwear.

    Prenatal bandage tape.

    Made in the form of an elastic belt, it is fixed under the stomach with a Velcro fastener. There are additional elastic straps on the sides.

    Pros:

    • Effectively supports and relieves back muscles.
    • Provides good abdominal support.
    • With the help of additional elastic straps you can adjust the degree of fit.
    • Doesn't stretch.
    • No need to wash it daily.

    Minuses:

    Not as cute as jockstrap panties.

    Prenatal bandage corset. Compared to the previous one, it has a wider back and rigid inserts in the lumbar area.

    pros And minuses the same as for a tape bandage.

    Therefore, when selling a bandage, find out if there is any pain in the lower back and how intense it is. If the pain is not severe, you can suggest a regular tape bandage. For severe pain radiating to the leg or buttock, recommend a brace-corset.

    How to choose the size of a prenatal bandage?

    To select the size, you need to run a measuring tape along the hips and under the tummy.

    Care Tips

    The bandage is usually washed by hand in a soap solution at a water temperature of 40 degrees. Washing powders are not used, as they contain bleaches, which, firstly, are unsafe for the skin, and secondly, can harm the elastic properties of the fabric. The bandage is not twisted so that it does not become deformed, but is blotted with a towel and dried usually, but not on a radiator or in the sun.

    How to wear?

    The prenatal bandage should be put on while lying down so that the uterus and other organs take the correct position.

    We're done with the facts.

    Now let's look at the opinions and comments.
