We sew the box with our own hands. Pattern of a box made of cardboard and fabric

Master Class Tatiana Churbakova (TayaChe), who participated in the 2015 competition “My Favorite Heart”, took 1st place in it! In a master class published in the September issue of the magazine “All about Handicraft,” Tatyana tells and shows how to make a box with her own hands from cardboard and fabric with a lid.

And now you can watch the whole process of creating a box "All you need is love" and on the pages of Krestik! The heart-shaped box is useful for storing any small items, jewelry, valuables, and is also ideal as a gift for Valentine's Day or any other holiday, such as a birthday or March 8th.

When working on the box I used:

  • Binding cardboard 1.7 mm thick
  • Binding cardboard 0.8 mm thick
  • Thin coated cardboard
  • Linen for exterior decoration
  • Printed teak for interior decoration
  • Paper for scrapbooking
  • Printout with the inscription
  • Pigment ink pads
  • Paper flowers and stamens
  • Waxed cord and cotton floss
  • Glue semi-pearls
  • PVA glue for carpentry
  • Glue Moment Crystal
  • Masking tape
  • Stationery knife
  • Double sided tape
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Centimeter tape
  • Glue brush
  • Cutting mat

Creating a box (bottom of the box)

Draw a heart of the desired shape on paper, cut out the resulting stencil. Trace along it and cut out a piece of cardboard 1.7 mm thick.

Using a measuring tape, measure the perimeter of the workpiece. First, measure the length of segment AB along the right side of the heart, then along the left side of the heart, from the resulting amount, subtract one thickness of the cardboard from which you make the side of the box (I have 0.8 mm) and add 1 mm (allowance for bending).

Cut a strip from cardboard 0.8 mm thick. The length is calculated from previous measurements, the width is equal to the desired depth of the box. Now, from one of the ends of the strip, set aside a segment AB, calculated on the right side of the heart, make a crease in this place and bend the cardboard strip.

Use masking tape to secure the bend on the outside. Along the entire bottom side of the cardboard strip, stick a strip of masking tape on the outside: half of the tape is on the cardboard, half is free. Make transverse cuts on the free part of the tape. The distance between cuts is 5-10 mm.

Coat the side sections of the cardboard heart with PVA glue and glue a cardboard strip around the perimeter, and wrap the cut pieces of tape onto the bottom. The cardboard strip is glued not from above to the plane of the heart, but from the side, to its edge, that is, it kind of wraps around it.

For cardboard, it is better to use not ordinary stationery PVA, but PVA glue for carpentry. It is thicker, grips fabric and cardboard better, and glues faster and more reliably.

Apply glue to all the seams at the bottom inside the box.

Reinforce the border joint at the top of the heart with masking tape both inside and outside.

It is recommended to check how the selected fabric behaves with glue before starting work. Take a small piece of fabric for the experiment and cardboard, try gluing the material to the cardboard to understand how much the fabric allows glue to pass through, whether stains appear, how thick a layer of glue is necessary and acceptable for gluing the selected type of fabric.

It is advisable to use materials that are not too thick, as natural as possible (synthetics stick worse), and not elastic. Cotton and thin linen fabrics are preferred. Ideal for work 100% cotton, fine and dense, used for patchwork and quilting.

From the fabric chosen for the exterior decoration, cut out a strip: the length is equal to the perimeter of the box box (measured with a measuring tape), plus two centimeters for allowances, the width is equal to the height of the outside sides of the box plus two to three centimeters for allowances.

Do not try to coat the entire surface of the box with glue at once and glue all the fabric in one fell swoop. The cardboard should be coated gradually, in sections, and the material should be glued evenly.

Start working from the top of the heart (from the corner). I will show you how the joint is formed later, at the stage of working with the lid. For now I will say that the fabric is glued along the perimeter of the side, leave equal allowances at the top and bottom. From below, along the bottom, cut the allowance in the same way as you cut the tape at the assembly stage, wrap the allowance strips onto the bottom and glue them with PVA. Along the upper edge of the side, fold the allowances inwards (without cuts) and glue them.

Glue a piece of cardboard 0.8 mm thick with the outline of a heart (use the main stencil) to scrapbooking paper using double-sided tape and cut them out together.

This way it turns out much smoother and neater than if you cut it separately and then try to glue it together.

It is better to use double-sided tape for this step, because PVA can deform the scrapbooking paper.

Tint the edges with a pad of pigment ink and glue them to the bottom of the box from the outside using PVA glue.

Using a measuring tape, measure the inner perimeter of the box (this will be the length of the cardboard strip) and the height of the walls inside the box (subtract a couple of millimeters from it, and this will be the width of the cardboard strip).

Cut a strip with the calculated dimensions from thin coated cardboard. Using it, cut out a piece from the fabric chosen for the interior decoration, adding allowances of 1 cm on each side.

Glue the fabric to the white side of the coated cardboard. Fold the top seam allowance along the long side to the wrong side and glue. Cut the bottom allowance. Start gluing the “lining” into the box in the same way as the outer fabric - from the top corner of the heart.

Place the edge of the cardboard piece to the corner on the left, and glue the fabric allowance to the right half of the heart.

Gradually glue the piece along the inner perimeter, and when you return to the upper corner of the heart, fold the fabric allowance to the wrong side of the cardboard piece, glue it there and add the “lining” to the corner. Thus, a neat joint is obtained.

When gluing the “lining”, bring the cut bottom allowance of fabric to the bottom, and then also glue it with PVA.

Using the main stencil, cut out a piece for the bottom from thin coated cardboard. Try it on. If it doesn’t fit well on the bottom, trim where required.

Depending on how thick the fabric is used for the interior of the box, this part may have to be trimmed 1-2 mm around. That is, the main template is equal in area to the bottom of the box, but without taking into account the already glued internal walls, and they consist of coated cardboard and fabric, and can add up to 1 mm in thickness to the walls. In addition, the cardboard part of the bottom will also be covered with fabric, and this, depending on its thickness, can “eat” up to 1 mm. Thus, the cardboard part of the bottom must be tried on very carefully and, if necessary, trimmed.

Cover the bottom part with fabric for interior decoration, trim off the excess material, leaving allowances, cut the allowances, turn them on the wrong side and glue them. Glue the bottom into the box.

Creating a cover

Place the finished box of the box on a sheet of paper upside down and trace it - this will create a stencil for the top of the lid. From binding cardboard, 1.7 mm thick, cut out a part using a stencil. Prepare the sides of the lid from cardboard 0.8 mm thick (the calculation algorithm is the same as when creating a box). The gluing procedure is also similar. The result is the same blank, only wider so that it fits on top of the box, and the sides are lower.

Since the sides are lower and made of fairly thin cardboard, they do not hold the heart shape very well - they deviate outward. Therefore, additionally strengthen them on the outside with a strip of cardboard 1.7 mm thick. The lid needs to be tried on the box box; it should be easy to put on and take off.

Print the inscription on peach-colored office paper "All you need is love". Cut out matching hearts from this paper and scrapbooking paper.

Tear scrap paper, fray the edges, and tint with brown pigment ink. Roll the torn strip into a roll and secure with a drop of glue. Also tint the paper with the inscription using ink. Glue both layers to the lid of the box so that the inscription is in the torn strip.

Cut a strip from the linen used for exterior trim. The length is equal to the outside perimeter of the lid, plus two centimeters for allowances. The width is equal to the height of the sides of the lid, multiplied by two, plus two centimeters for allowances and decor.

Now about forming a joint in the outer lining of the box - something that I missed in the description of the box. The essence is the same as with interior decoration. Start gluing the fabric from the top corner of the heart. The allowance goes to the right side, the rest of the fabric goes to the left.

Glue the material to the board in a circle and, returning to the upper corner of the heart, fold in the remaining allowance and glue the fabric.

Fold the bottom edge of the linen strip inward and glue it to the walls. On the part of the fabric that is wrapped to the bottom (bottom allowance), make cuts and glue the material to the bottom.

Fold the top allowance over the top of the lid, form random folds and glue. Fray the edges in places, tint them and folds with pigment ink.

Form a composition from paper flowers, stamens and waxed cord. Either glue it to the lid using Moment Crystal glue, or sew it with thread directly to the cardboard.

Using an awl, make holes along the right edge of the lid and lay a decorative stitch with floss threads.

It is better not to make knots on the inside, but glue the ends of the threads to the cardboard using PVA so that the knots do not create bulges on the inner bottom of the lid. The bottom is formed in the same way as the bottom of the box box.

Add half pearls to the lid and your heart-shaped box is ready!

To store jewelry and small accessories, you don’t have to buy expensive boxes or organizers. It’s enough to simply make a jewelry box from cardboard with your own hands. Most people at home have wrapping paper, small pieces of lace, beads or beads and other materials that can be used to create an original box.

Components for manufacturing:

Cardboard box shape

Simple rectangular or square

A do-it-yourself cardboard box for crafts is formed from a box and paper tubes. First you need to choose a suitable base for the box - for example, a shoe box. It is better to take a base for the bottom approximately the size of an A4 sheet or less, this will make the finishing process easier.

To form the tubes you will need glue and knitting needles. For weaving, you can use tubes made from ordinary printing paper, waste press and magazines. The finished cardboard box can be painted with acrylic paints or left as usual.

It is advantageous to use colored paper for a printer: it has a wide color palette.

The process of creating a cardboard box with your own hands will not take much time. First, on the outside of the box you need to glue vertical tubes that serve as guides. You need to glue at intervals of 4-6 cm - it all depends on the size of the box. Then the tubes are bent onto the side edges, and then inward.

A compacted cardboard of suitable size is glued to the bottom, which will hide the place where the tubes are attached. Then the tubes are intertwined around the circumference of the base. The lid also folds.

Round box

For needlewomen, a round spool of tape left over is an expensive material. This base can be used in different types of needlework: decoupage or scrapbooking, decorated with coffee beans, seed beads, beads, jewelry stones, glued on leather or fabric. To make a box from round cardboard with your own hands, it is recommended to use interwoven cardboard.

First you need to attach the reel to the cardboard and draw three circles along the inner and two outer diameters. Circles with a smaller diameter are glued together; it is recommended to use Moment glue. Treat the finished element with sandpaper and glue it to a circle of larger diameter, placing it in the central part.

As a result, a lid will be formed that will seal the box tightly.

If there is a need to sand the edges. The box layout is ready. You can decorate it to your taste with different beads and decorative stones using any needlework technique. The lid can be made slightly protruding: you need to enlarge one of the circles with a larger diameter. This will make the box easier to open.

Heart shaped box

This heart-shaped box is perfect as a wrapper for a Valentine's Day surprise. First of all, you need to cut out a heart-shaped element from cardboard - this is the bottom of the box, the dimensions of which will determine the parameters of the box as a whole. Then you need to cut a wide strip of cardboard with teeth on one side. Glue the strip to the bottom. Assemble the other side in the same way.

You need to glue the two halves of the walls and secure them with paper clips, wait for the glue to dry. Decorate the inside and outside of the box with paper with different textures or patterns. Glue two pieces of fringe to the base - they will act as curtains on which the lid is held. Next, cut out the second heart, this will be the top cover. It needs to be glued to the curtains.

Decorated paper should be glued in the same way. Then you need to decorate the cardboard box in the shape of a heart to your taste. Alternatively, you can glue lace along the contour. Decorate the top with flowers, beads, ribbons, etc.

Master class on how to make a cardboard box with your own hands:

Every woman has many little things that need a special storage system. These are various decorations, accessories for creativity or handicrafts and many other items. A DIY cardboard box can be an excellent option for storing all the little things you need. Creating a suitable drawer is easy. The main thing is to use your imagination and give it a unique and original look.

A simple box. Preparatory stage

This option is easy to create. The box is a cardboard box. Its capacity and functionality depend on your needs. To make the task easier, it is recommended to use blanks. In this case, it is much easier and simpler to make cardboard boxes with your own hands.

The diagrams must be transferred to paper. Before calculating the dimensions, think about what purposes your box will be used for. If jewelry will be stored in it, then you should not make it bulky. But if the box is intended for needlework, the dimensions of the box should be much larger.

Manufacturing technique

So, let's look at how to make a box with your own hands from cardboard:

  1. Prepare thick cardboard.
  2. Using the diagram, mark the contours of the box on it.
  3. Cut out the resulting blank.
  4. Fold the fold lines. Carefully glue the places where the box is connected. If you take thick cardboard, it is difficult to work with. But it is precisely this that allows you to create a durable structure. Such a box will be an excellent place to store various things. You can use superglue or PVA. But a more reliable option is tape.
  5. The resulting box needs a beautiful case. To do this, use wrapping paper. This is a thin material that perfectly decorates the surface of cardboard. Old wallpaper is a good option.
  6. When gluing the box, be sure to leave allowances for the hem. Wrap them up and glue them to the inside of the box.
  7. Choose wrapping paper that suits your style for interior decor. Cover the bottom of the box with this material immediately. Then - the inner side parts.
  8. Now all that's left to do is come up with the decoration. For decoration you can use any ornaments, flowers, beads, beads. It all depends on your imagination.

Round box

Sometimes it seems that making a box of this shape is difficult. Totally wrong! It is quite easy to make a round box from cardboard with your own hands. You will see this for yourself.

Round box manufacturing technology:

  1. Mark a circle on thick cardboard. This will be the base of the box.
  2. Draw a long rectangle. This is the side of the box. Its width is the height of the future box. And the length should correspond to the circumference plus 2-3 cm per connection.
  3. To assemble such parts together you will need allowances. They can be left on the base of the box. So, as shown in the figure or on a rectangular blank.
  4. Having carefully calculated the dimensions, cut out the blanks.
  5. Connect them with glue or tape.
  6. Make the lid for the box using the same technology. But remember that the base circle should be a little larger. After all, the lid should be easy to put on the box. And its height is less.
  7. So, you made an excellent cardboard box with your own hands. All that remains is to decorate it. When thinking about an interesting decoration, do not forget about an important point. All hems must be carefully disguised. Therefore, it is recommended to decorate both the external and internal sides.

Scotch tape box

This is a simple but original solution. How to make a jewelry box with your own hands from cardboard and a reel (from tape)?

Let's look at it in detail.

  1. Trace the bobbin on thick cardboard in an outer circle. You will need two such blanks. One will become the base, and the other will become the lid.
  2. Connect the bottom to the bobbin. You can use tape for this. Or leave a hem allowance at the base in advance.
  3. To make the lid, use the technology described in the previous example. Remember that it should be slightly larger than the base.
  4. You have created a wonderful box with your own hands from cardboard with a lid. Now it's up to your imagination. The original decor will make it a real work of art.

Soft box

Having considered simple options, let's try to diversify the technology a little. For example, if you want to create boxes with your own hands from cardboard and fabric, then you can use the following method. This box will be a great place to store important things. In addition, it is an excellent decorative element.

Let's look at how to make such a box with your own hands from cardboard. The master class will greatly help with this:

  1. You will need a round box. You can use a ready-made blank (for example, left over from a hat) or make it yourself.
  2. Apply a thin layer of glue to the outer side surface.
  3. Glue thin foam rubber to it.
  4. Choose a nice fabric. Measure a rectangular cut on it. Its width should be equal to twice the height of the box plus 10-15 cm for free folding. The length corresponds to the circumference with the addition of seam allowance. Wrap your box in this fabric.
  5. Cut a cardboard circle that will easily fit inside the box. Cover it with foam rubber and fabric. It is better to choose a lighter fabric for the bottom.
  6. If desired, you can decorate such a box in any way. Use ribbons, beads, buboes, beads.

Heart box

This box itself looks quite original. In addition, this box is easy to make with your own hands from cardboard.

The master class allows you to understand the progress of the work:

  1. Cut out two hearts from construction paper.
  2. Prepare two rectangles. Decorate one side with “teeth”.
  3. Glue a rectangle around the perimeter of the heart. Combine the prepared “cloves” with the base. It is best to use Moment glue. This will provide the necessary strength.
  4. Repeat the procedure for the other rectangle. In this case, be sure to take into account the allowance required to connect both side parts.
  5. Glue the second heart blank at the bottom. The decor imitating lace looks original.
  6. Create the lid for your box in the same way.
  7. Cut out pictures of bears or illustrations in a romantic style will add sophistication and originality. Complete the decor with beads, flowers, butterflies.

Box made of threads

This is another amazing technique that you can use to make a box. Let's look at how to make a box with your own hands from cardboard and thread.

Progress:

  1. You can choose any shape for the base. It can be a circle, rectangle or heart. Cut out two blanks from thick cardboard.
  2. One of them, which will become the bottom of the box, needs to be decorated. You can choose any solution for this. As a last resort, cover it with colored paper.
  3. In this base, mark holes around the perimeter with a needle. The distance between the “holes” is 1 cm. Try not to leave much space from the edge. Screw toothpicks into the marked holes. Each of them must be glued.
  4. Now you can take up the threads. Place the first row between toothpicks. Pass the thread as follows: in front of the stick, then behind it. The next row is placed in a checkerboard pattern.
  5. Braid to the middle. Now place a bead on each toothpick. Continue weaving with threads.
  6. Having finished the box, you need to secure the structure. To do this, put and glue beads onto each toothpick.
  7. The upper and lower parts of the box can be decorated with an original chain or ribbon.

Now you know how to create a beautiful cardboard box with your own hands.

Conclusion

If you are inspired to create such a masterpiece, then many of the recommendations given in the article will be useful to you. Such a detail will become an amazing decoration of your home and a source of your pride. In addition, a beautiful cardboard box, created with your own hands, can be an excellent gift. After all, every woman needs such things.

Do you like to do handicrafts and make a variety of souvenirs and gifts? Looking for new opportunities? Try to make the same souvenir as in the next photo. It is not difficult. The pattern of the box is taken ready-made from a template or built by analogy yourself. In the first case, you just need to trace the diagram on cardboard and fabric, cut out the parts and connect them into a finished item. The second method will require a little more time, but this way you will create an exclusive original item.

How to complete the pattern

If you have ever come across a pattern for a plywood box, or more precisely, a drawing of its individual parts, then know that you can use the same blank for cardboard. You have two options:

In both cases, you need to know the dimensions of the finished product you are going to create.

What materials and tools are needed

To ensure that you get the correct pattern for the box and a high-quality, neat product in the future, prepare the following:

  • cardboard;
  • scissors;
  • paper;
  • pencil;
  • ruler;
  • eraser;
  • a rod with a pointed end (knitting needle, toothpick) for making clear, even folds on cardboard;
  • fabric for finishing and filling (if necessary);
  • glue;
  • threads, if the product will consist of separate elements;
  • decor (beads, beads, satin ribbons, flowers, sequins, butterflies, etc.)

As you can see, nothing unusual is needed either to make the pattern or to make the souvenir itself.

Cardboard box

Patterns, developments, diagrams, blanks of such products can be very diverse, but there are two options for creating:

  • Making a three-dimensional product from a flat diagram cut out of paper by bending the elements in the appropriate places.
  • Stitching together individual parts to form a three-dimensional object.

In the first method, you will definitely need to first draw guides along the fold lines with a pointed object. This will allow you to carefully and without creases bend the thick cardboard in the form of a straight line. At the same time, you need to provide gluing points if you are building the circuit yourself.

The second method involves sewing the parts together, so you won’t need any allowances for gluing, but you will need to make holes around the perimeter of each part at a short distance from the edge of the element. It is better to use an awl and prepare preliminary markings for the holes so that they are at the same distance relative to each other and from the edge too. Stitching can be done either with a needle or by crocheting the parts to be joined.

Pattern of a fabric box

If you don’t have beautiful decorative cardboard, but a lot of bright scraps, you can easily create your own unique box design. It is worth covering the elements with fabric before assembly. To create a pattern for fabric parts, you need to use a template for a cardboard base and add allowances for bending the material from the front side to the back. To prevent these allowances from being visible inside the box, it makes sense, after covering the cardboard blank with fabric, to glue an additional layer, for example, made of beautiful paper, to the inside.

Variety of options

The first illustration of this section shows the pattern of the box and its appearance in volume. This pattern can be used for cardboard, fabric or postcards. In this case, the lower part can be made from a single sheet with fold lines in the places indicated by the dotted line, and can be sewn from separate elements. In the second case, the gluing allowances must be removed.

The easiest way to make the lid of the product is using the method suggested in the diagram, by cutting out a part similar to the bottom in shape and size, and gluing it to the base on a strip of cardboard. The second method is more labor-intensive, but the lid of the box will turn out presentable. The scheme is taken the same as for the base, only on a slightly enlarged scale, because the finished product should be easily put on the lower part. To understand how much to increase the size, just measure the thickness of the cardboard and take twice its size.

The next image also shows a pattern for a pentagonal box made of cardboard, which can also be decorated with fabric. Here the lid is one piece with the bottom, which is convenient. If you also make a fabric blank using this pattern, do not forget to add allowances for bending the material inward, where they are not on the template (it was originally intended for assembling a cardboard product).

If you want to make a box in the shape of a cube, use the following blank. By the way, this option is perfect for creating (a photo of the finished sample is in the next section).

If you prefer the rectangular option, then take the next blank pattern. Print the template in the size that suits you, cut out the shape along the contour and make folds in the appropriate places. Glue where required. Your box, consisting of a base and a lid, is ready!

So, you have seen several options for patterns for boxes, according to which it is easy to make products of different shapes and designs. Each drawing can also become a model for developing your individual design.

Original products made from affordable materials

By analogy with a cardboard one, you can easily make a pattern for a box from postcards with your own hands. Simply, unnecessary colored postcards are taken as the base material. In this case, the parts of the product are cut out separately, and instead of making fold lines, the elements are sewn together with threads through pre-created holes along the contour of each part.

So, you have seen how easy it is to pattern a box. By choosing one template, you can create different design options. Everyone will receive an exclusive designer item of their own design.
