Speed reading technique with memorization. Exercises for developing the skill of speed reading

Why do we need speed reading training, some will ask. Let me ask you, how many unread books are gathering dust on your shelf? And how many would you like to read, but do not reach your hands? Once I was in a situation that I read one book for a whole month or two or three months. Every day for an hour and so for almost a month. What a nightmare! After that, I don't want to read.

And now the book takes 2 days, and I read it for 30-40 minutes in transport. That is 20-30 times faster. Not bad, right?

Nowadays, fast reading is already the norm for every successful person. Such a century, such a time. The question is how easily and quickly you can learn the technique of speed reading. Someone masters it for months, someone is afraid to start, because they heard a lot of unflattering things about the methods, which is often completely groundless.

What can I say? The skill is needed. And there are several options, each in its own way is good.

Speed reading training for free on your own

There are many books, articles and open courses on the vast expanses of the Internet. Now everything can be found, for free and legally. By the way, I have a whole review of books on speed reading - all for you.

What's good about this option?

  • Such training in speed reading will be very economical. Most of the materials will come to you for free or for little money if you buy the books.
  • You yourself can choose methods and exercises for yourself that are right for you.
  • You can choose a comfortable exercise mode, in which you do not need to rush, keep up with the group, go somewhere or wait for webinars. There are no external influences: do when you can.

The benefits are significant. If you organize yourself well, you have strong motivation and willpower, then this option, of course, suits you just wonderfully. However, there are two key disadvantages of self-learning speed reading:

Speed reading training: offline programs

An excellent and (as opposed to independent) very effective result is the teaching of the speed reading technique in live group courses. When you come and intensively study live with a qualified trainer. What's good about this method?

  • High chance of a good result . An experienced coach is able to bring you to a really good result and really increase your reading speed and understanding of the text. Time and money in this case will be well spent.
  • You will have excellent external stimulation. You will need to have time to work with a group, complete tasks, exercises. In a company it is always easier to find the strength to exercise and harder to find excuses for yourself. A lot of people need a little kick to move forward.
  • Live course handouts is an absolute plus. It is much more convenient for most people to have notebooks, methods, tables and other printed materials on hand than to read everything from the monitor screen. After the course, there are often many materials left with which you can train yourself at home.

There are definitely some downsides to this type of training.

  • High price. For live courses, in addition to the work of the coach himself, his team also includes the cost of materials, the cost of renting a hall, equipment, etc. Of course, this significantly increases the cost of participation.
  • The inflexibility of the training regime. You need to come at a certain time, to a certain place. If you miss a class, it usually cannot be rescheduled or rescheduled.
  • program inflexibility. Since classes are held in a group at live events, individual adjustment to your pace is almost impossible. The trainer also cannot change the program for you, select individual exercises or remove sections that are not suitable for you.

Online speed reading training

Distance learning for speed reading largely combines the advantages of the previous options.

  • With a good coach high chance of getting a good result
  • No need to drive for classes, you can do everything at home
  • Often distance learning can be viewed at a convenient time . This flexibility is much needed in today's dynamic world.
  • The cost of such programs is lower similar offline programs
  • external stimulation , as coaches and curators periodically monitor your progress, suggest. You work in a group, communicate with other students. All this gives additional motivation.

I have a selection of speed reading courses from various authors, you can familiarize yourself with and choose a teacher that is suitable in spirit, style and cost. Yet even this type of training has its drawbacks.

  • There is still no individual approach. Such a complex complex skill as the ability to work with information is difficult to teach in a large group, an individual approach and individual solutions are needed for each person.
  • There are no printed materials left from distance courses, and for many of us it is more convenient to work with printed rather than electronic versions of workbooks, texts, tables.

How do I see the most convenient option for teaching speed reading?

Having tried different options, I, as a coach, settled on individual distance learning. And I personally think that this is the most convenient format for each student. By studying on an individual program, you get:

All video tutorials, webinar recordings, mind maps, tables, special texts for exercises and many other materials.

Special training plan, which is detailed in steps and even days. You can focus on it as a base, but independently adjust it for yourself, study the lessons at a convenient time. I am for flexibility.

I, as a coach, will be in individual work follow you, help, answer questions and encouragement. You will have individual support and assistance.

You receive additional materials(not included in the training itself) if I see that you need it so that you get the maximum benefit, as well as adjust, remove or change exercises if they do not suit you.

The cost is the same as remote courses

And, what is very important, you can get printed materials(a large workbook with tips, an exercise plan, texts for verification), printed color Schulte tables for training. All this is sent to you by mail and remains with you.

- the ability of a person to read the required amount of information several times faster and at the same time absorb it one hundred percent. When speed reading, attention is not scattered. For this, there are special courses, trainings, exercises that help people activate the cerebral cortex. world-class mastered the technique of speed reading in order to have time to read a large amount of literature in a short period of time. brings to your attention effective speed reading exercises.

Speed reading techniques of famous people

Suffice it to recall the leader of the proletariat - Lenin, who read at a speed of up to 2500 words per minute! Thanks to such abilities, he could read books very quickly. Sometimes he was asked if he was reading or just browsing the pages. To which the leader replied that, of course, he reads otherwise he would not be able to get all the knowledge that he now has.

Theodore Roosevelt read two sentences at a time, and then he could easily retell the text, sometimes even verbatim. Maxim Gorky had even more unique abilities. He perfectly mastered the technique of speed reading and when he took a fresh issue of the magazine, he cut the pages and read the text, as if “drawing” a zigzag. After reading one magazine, he took up new literature. This technique is called diagonal speed reading.

In the Middle Ages, there lived a monk named Raymond Lullia. He was one of the first to offer some speed reading techniques. They were mastered by Napoleon Bonaparte, Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, John F. Kennedy.

The famous Iosif Vissarionovich Stalin read five hundred pages at a time every day. He had a very large library, which contained a large amount of literature. Ranging from dictionaries to collected works. He loved the works of Pushkin and his biography. In his office, sitting reading another book, he emphasized important points in it, thereby discarding unnecessary ones. I used several colored pencils for such purposes.

He liked to bend the pages of books and put notes on their margins and Karl Marx. President Roosevelt was simply in love with speed reading. He could read the entire book in one sitting. Honore de Balzac told his contemporaries how easily he manages to read eight sentences at once, and at the same time single out one key one from them.

Adolf Hitler had his speed reading technique. He took a book, a magazine, a scientific article in his hand and opened it to the last page. If I saw something worthwhile, I read it. From the memoirs of Adolf Hitler's secretary, we know that the leader was very sorry that he could not read a single fiction book, since his duties included only reading scientific literature.

Effective Speed Reading Exercises

There are several exercises that develop reading speed to higher skill levels. But before proceeding to them, it is worth considering a few important facts. Sit straight, and without bending, put your left hand on what you will read: a book, a magazine, a newspaper. It is very important that a person has at least minimal reading skills, reading comprehension, information processing. Otherwise, all these exercises will not give any benefit, and may even cause harm.

1. Take any book you like and read it. Then do it in reverse. Practice until your reading speed becomes fast.

2. Second exercise. Ask a friend to choose any word from the text. Then very quickly try to find it. It is worth remembering the school. After all, we were taught to find the answer to the question posed by finding one keyword a, without rereading the entire text.

3. Many people read books from beginning to end without skipping a single sentence, without jumping from page to page. But they are not needed in order to read them perfectly. It is enough to skim through only those facts that are important, and thereby not lose the essence. This applies to any fiction. But some legislative acts, charters, documents need to be read very carefully, because every word hides a deeper meaning.

4. Page view is another reading speed improvement exercise. It is worth spending at least twenty seconds on each page. Then select individual words in the text, build sentences from them, but most importantly, try not to lose the essence of the text.

6. Most people have a developed habit of reading one text several times. To avoid this, take a small piece of paper and put it on the sentences that have already been read. It is important to have time here quickly, read the sentences before the sheet covers them. It will be a little difficult at first, but then it will become a habit.

7. Another speed reading exercise is used to help the eyes. With your left hand, move your finger across the page at a distance of two to three centimeters from each sentence.

8. The role of the hand, in another exercise, is a zigzag movement, subsequently returning to the beginning of the line. This technique is not suitable for those materials or literature that should be read, pondering every word. It allows you to sort of "scan" some moments and fragments of the text and understand its essence in a short time.

9. One of the unique speed reading exercises is "assignment". Often you have to read articles, texts with new and unknown words, terms, or foreign articles written in a foreign language. You can read very little in a minute, but the main thing is to comprehend and understand what you read. Reading - “filtering”, as this exercise can also be called, consists in the fact that the text is read by a person who knows all the terms and facts. He does this quickly, omitting everything he knew before, in search of something new and bright.

10. When reading fiction, a person is in a relaxed state, he clearly imagines the images of heroes, sometimes even gets used to the role. This kind of reading is called empathy. If the reader wants to increase the speed of reading, then this effect disappears, only the technique appears.

11. In wartime, they used scouts, people who, in a short time, had to read an important document and understand its essence. This exercise is called the "assault method". This method is to provide the person being trained with small pieces of articles that are replaced at a rapid pace. Each time the texts change faster and faster, and a person must almost verbatim remember their essence.

Speed reading is a speed reading technique, an acquired ability that increases the speed by 3-20 times the average (which is 180-200 words per minute). With its help, you can speed up the perception of textual information and master the process of memorizing what you read.

There are many programs with which it is permissible to increase the level of reading, speed up the memorization process and achieve an expansion of memory cells. All the training lessons of such programs are aimed at developing a person spiritually and, of course, intellectually.
Oleg Andreev is a well-known author, offers training in his own programs, which he himself composes.

  • Learning to increase reading speed. Some were able to increase it 20 times, but the average achievement is an increase of 5 times.
  • Training provides better and faster perception of textual information.
  • The development of memory and, of course, attention.
  • The opportunity to develop your own intuition, which will not be superfluous in everyday life.
  • The opportunity to develop or improve creative abilities.
  • A complete physical recovery of the body.
  • Education affects the spiritual growth of a person.

In order to know, feel, realize all these points, you need to go through and study the 7 basic laws on which the speed reading technique is based. It is these laws that form the basis of all methods. The program "How to increase the speed of reading?" requires time, attention and, of course, the desire of a person, without which the implementation and achievement of a positive result is impossible.

Oleg Andreev, in turn, identifies 7 programs, each of which is aimed at working on oneself and developing one's intellectual abilities and spirituality.

Speed Reading Rules

  • No regression.

Regressions are eye movements that the reader involuntarily makes. Accessible wording is a repeated reading of the text. This happens for several reasons:

  • the first is a complex text that requires sharpening of attention and, accordingly, re-reading;
  • The second reason is a rethinking of what has been read.

Regressions are a kind of habit that slows down speed reading. To get rid of regressions, you just need to train. The essence of the training is to read the text with the highest possible level of attention and concentration.

For the best result, you need to get rid of all extraneous thoughts and distractions. In addition, one reading is effective for memory. The memorization process works instantly, and repeated reading or aggravation on one word can confuse the main meaning.

  • No articulation.

Articulation is the facial expressions of the reader, which is accompanied by familiarization with textual information at a subconscious level. Articulation accompanies reading both aloud and silently. Many people think that reading to yourself speeds up the process, but this is an erroneous opinion.

This phenomenon has its own classification:

  • accompaniment of the text by mechanical movements;
  • speaking directly in the speech center is a much deeper and less controlled level.

The principle of operation is based on reading to the accompaniment of a certain sound (music is excluded). You need to use sound recordings with faster and slightly slower rhythms, which should be turned on when reading and tapping to the rhythm in parallel. Andreev devotes a whole program to mastering this process; in this teaching, his opinion is fundamentally different from the lessons of foreign teachers.

  • Integral reading algorithm.

The essence of this rule is based on optimization and highlighting the main meaning that the text carries in itself. The semantic perception of the text can only be taught by a special program; it is impossible to learn and master this rule on self-study.

  • vertical eye movement.

Easy to say, but much more difficult to apply. This rule allows the reader to save unnecessary eye movements, which are spent on moving from one line to another. This is how an ordinary person reads, due to the small field of view. Vertical eye movement is based on eye movement from top to bottom, but strictly through the center of the page. This method allows you to read the phrase as a whole, and not by individual words.

  • Isolation of the dominant.

This technique allows you to highlight the most basic semantic meaning of the text and cut off secondary information. This method has 2 principles:

  • definition and allocation of central semantic points;
  • intuitive understanding of the text.

In his book, Andreev explains this process in an accessible way.

  • The development of memory and attention.

Attention, concentration and memory are the guides with the help of which it is possible to achieve high results in speed reading in practice.

The technique of fast speed reading allows you to master attention, it is such a vicious circle: without attention you cannot read quickly, but by reading quickly, you reach the highest level of attention and memory development.

An indispensable assistant in improving memory and attention is exercises with words, mental reading them in reverse. Regular exercise brings results. It is worth starting with simple and short words and every day complicating your task.

  • Mandatory daily minimum.

The development of fast reading requires special psychological costs and efforts from a person. Having embarked on the path of learning this program, you need to read several magazines, articles, newspapers and at least 50-100 pages of a book a day.

Oleg Andreev in his teachings prefers points: 1,2,3,4,6 and calls them not rules, but interference, which in one way or another slow down the reading technique, reduce the level of memorization. But with all this, Mr. Andreev proposes to study the volume of the readable text, which over time will provide a solid time budget.

The program, which the author Andreev sets out, offers a kind of speed reading simulator, which will be entered in the table. The table called "Analysis of reading volume", which clearly demonstrates speed reading in practice, allows you to increase the trend of its development, improve the processes of memorization and expansion of memory cells.

Table "Analysis of reading volume"

The table should clearly display the amount of text that is read during the day. At the same time, it is broken down separately by days and styles of the material read (textbooks, manuals, dictionaries, newspapers, magazines, etc.). The criteria are the volume of the text and the time spent on this text.

Measured units: the text must be counted in pieces, as for the style of the material, and directly the characters in each of the styles, the daily time spent reading should be recorded in minutes, and the weekly result should be set in hours. The table is a kind of personal incentive, where a person, seeing the result of the previous day, tries to overcome it. Andreev claims that a week is enough to see the result and set the pace of his development.

Teaching this technique allows you to develop five of the five types of reading. It is worth knowing that a person who has not studied speed reading has only two.

Reading types:

  • Concentrated reading, it is used in the study of a narrow profile text (legal, medical, technical, etc.). This is a great memory training.
  • Reading slowly, it is typical for fiction.
  • Anticipatory reading or preliminary - with its help determine the essence of what is being read.
  • Skimming is used to get an idea of the content.
  • Fast reading itself is speed reading.

Speed Reading Exercises

  • Read the text in the standard way, from top to bottom and in reverse order. This is the first training for memory and attention.
  • The second lesson trains attention. Learning is about finding one word that the other person points to. Absolutely any text for this exercise is suitable, be it a textbook or a novel.
  • The speed reading technique and the fluent reading program allows you to develop logical thinking. Artistic texts are suitable for this exercise. Learning consists of reading through a line or sentence. Such lessons are unacceptable for reading business documentation; it requires a careful and concentrated reading of every word. This method displays the results in an indicative table, which Andreev offers in training. Training is aimed at speeding up reading, and at developing memory and improving the memorization of the information read.
  • Faster browsing (20 seconds per page). During this time, you need to determine the main words that carry the main meaning and scroll through the pages to compose a text that would not lose its general meaning. Such lessons are within the power of those who have already completed the training by about half, and have basic memorization skills.
  • Read books at the same rhythm without slowing down and without stopping, do not re-read the same sentence several times.
  • Having mastered the previous point, complicate the task, the following lessons need to close the read text with a sheet, observing speed.
  • Acceleration occurs if you move the finger of your left hand across the page at a distance of 2–3 cm from the text being read.

These exercises will allow you to achieve results in speed reading and raise the level of memorization of information.

Reading is not only a fascinating activity, but also a certain obligation of a person. Thanks to the ability to read, a person receives maximum information in his life - he determines the format of the store, the composition of the product, learns about the diagnosis, and much more.

The question of how to learn to read quickly is considered in childhood, however, for an adult, this skill or familiarization with it turns out to be important. Next, we will consider ways to quickly read, because reading quickly means more time and learning.

The Importance of Speed Reading

The speed reading technique is called speed reading. Why is it necessary in principle? The fact is that a person acquires new knowledge only under the condition of visible perception.

More than 95% of the information entering the human brain is provided by the ability to see.

At the same time, the reading of important information, which is necessary to achieve one's goal, is no exception.

Imagine the situation: you are in trouble of a legal nature, and only brochures with the Criminal, Tax, Labor or Civil Codes of the Russian Federation go to help. In which book to look for the information you are interested in is unknown, and the time to solve the problem is limited. How to act in such a situation?

In this case, the untrained brain will not find the right answer to the questions, and if it does, it will not be able to perceive it properly. As a result, the problems that have arisen will only get worse.

Experts say that a person who not only reads a lot, but owns the technique of speed reading:

  • self-assured;
  • has adequate self-esteem, is somewhat self-critical, which is also only useful in most situations;
  • achieves its goals.

Such statements are not groundless - for this, specialists from various systems have conducted numerous studies. They came to the conclusion that it is possible to get a decent education in life only with the help of a large number of books read.

An educated person can always find a job to their liking and with good financial security. A successful person strives for self-improvement, which is also achieved by reading certain updated literature.

You can get the necessary information only from newspapers or other sources that you need not just to read, but to read quickly. People with speed reading skills learn new things faster.

Why do people read slowly

Not always even special exercises in speed reading help to achieve the desired result. There are certain reasons why the speed reading technique is "useless". These include:

  • low vocabulary- the problem can be eliminated by reading interesting literature ( artistic or scientific);
  • lack of proper concentration on the text- in this case, the problem is explained by a weak articulation apparatus, which is easy to train with the help of special exercises;
  • untrained memory– can be developed only by constant reading of books and discussion or simple recollection of what was read;
  • complex content of the book- not always a child or even an adult can perceive an intricate plot or a large number of complex sentences in the text;
  • constantly returning to a particular word- often in the text there is some incomprehensible word, it needs to be clarified.

The explanation of a complex and unknown word in the text should be done by the parents if the child reads and asks a question. Otherwise, you should refer to the explanatory dictionary or the Internet.

Basic tricks in speed reading

Teaching speed reading should begin with the study of the main points in technology. These fundamentals include the following:

  • Read only useful books. If you want to become successful, then you should opt for autobiographies of talented entrepreneurs and so on.
  • Choose books only with an easy-to-read presentation- these include manuscripts of contemporary authors. The classics in this case will be inappropriate, since the text will contain a large number of obsolete words.
  • The selected book must be read quickly 2 times. The first time is an acquaintance with the information, and the second time is already a speed reading technique.
  • Read only in places convenient for you- preferably at home and at least 1-1.5 hours without interruption for important matters.
  • You should not read a work that you did not like, as well as “extra”- a person who wants to succeed should not start reading science fiction.

These are just the main points that will help you master speed reading at home. Next, you should study the subtleties in the methodology.

Speed Reading Techniques

In fact, speed reading is a complex of numerous techniques that are used to master a skill.

Methods are divided into groups - intended for children or adults. If we talk about adults, we can distinguish the following methods of mastering speed reading:

  • Reading a book from beginning to end, and then vice versa- from the end to the beginning. In this case, the ability to increase the speed of reading is implied.
  • Reading diagonally- the technique is very interesting, but reading obliquely helps in quickly flipping through books. Basically, this method is used in the study of fiction.
  • Running your finger along the bottom of the line- this method is used even in the study of reading technique at preschool age. This is explained by the help in concentration.
  • Appropriation technique- is based on the selection of key words in the text, which are no longer read, but perceived in the future.
  • Empathy Technique– it is important to visualize the main character of the book, to feel it. The presented actions make it easier to perceive the readable text.

There is another interesting method on how to read books quickly. The method is simply called: "Storm Method". It is used by scouts when they need to understand and assimilate a large amount of information. The method is to use a book of scientific literature.

The volume of the book is at least 100 pages. The technique consists in preliminary preparation of the pages - it is necessary to draw a vertical line with a pencil strictly in the middle on each page.

The presented technique is trained by an individual, but anyone can master it.

You can also read special books on speed reading - these are the works of numerous specialists who offer various methods and ways to improve reading speed. Everyone will find for themselves the most interesting option that will help to a greater extent.

About the importance of perception of the information read

It is not enough to know how to learn speed reading, it is necessary to perceive quickly read information, which is not easy to achieve.

Firstly, you need to learn how to simply extract useful information from the read text. This helps to perceive the meaning of what is read much faster.

Secondly, it is important to use the clarified information in practice - in this case, a person begins to use speed reading to his advantage. Such actions and basics are compared with the study of foreign languages - if there is no practice, the memorized words will be quickly forgotten.

The following rules are distinguished on how to learn to read quickly and remember what you read:

  • Talk about what you read acquaintances and friends.
  • Take notes as you read- it is necessary to highlight phrases or entire paragraphs that are important to you.
  • Read only when your brain is working hard- depending on the type of person is divided into "owl" or "lark". You should choose the time when the brain is most active.
  • Never read aloud- it distracts from the perception of information.
  • The importance of focusing on reading- if a person is tormented by more important events, it will be much more difficult to perceive and remember information.

How to teach a child to read quickly and correctly?

Speed reading for children also exists, and the technique should be used immediately, as soon as the baby is ready to learn the skill. In the future, this will help to quickly and easily perceive the information received at school.

When to start training?

A child should be taught to read only after a full and independent analysis of his condition. The child is ready for learning if the following points are present:

More useful information here.

  • The child is fluent in speech- he can speak in whole sentences, uses non-common words in a conversation with an adult.
  • He has developed phonemic awareness.- whether the baby perceives words well by ear, can he name the initial and last letter in the word pronounced for him.
  • The baby has no problems with hearing and pronunciation- all sounds in the child's speech are set, the correct tempo of sentences is maintained ( child focuses on key words in a sentence).
  • The child is free to navigate in space- he has a well-developed vestibular apparatus, he knows the concept of "left", "right", "up" and "down".

It turns out that teaching a child to read and teaching him the method of speed reading is possible only if there are no developmental problems. You should not start training at an early age, if the crumbs are not interested in it - the work will not bring proper results, and training may even “stand up”.

Step-by-step instruction

To instill in the child speed reading skills ( it is not recommended to fully teach this technique at preschool age), follow these steps:

Determine which technique is easier for him - and use it at first. As speed reading develops, change methods with more complex options.

Whether you're reading a textbook for a philosophy seminar or the morning paper, reading can be tedious. Master the technique of speed reading to complete this task much faster. Speed reading will impair understanding of the material, but with proper practice, you can partially overcome this defect.

Steps

Part 1

Learn to read faster

Stop saying words to yourself. Almost every reader mentally pronounces the text (subvocalization) or is distracted by repeating the word. This helps the reader remember the terms, but it also slows down the reading speed. Here are a few ways to minimize this habit:

Close the words you have already read. When reading, your eyes often return to the words you have already read. Basically, these are short-term movements that do not improve understanding in any way. Use a bookmark to close words after reading them, weaning yourself from this habit.

    • These "reverse jumps" also occur when you fail to understand the material. If your eyes jump back a few words or lines, this is a sign that you need to slow down.
  1. Let's move on to eye movement. While reading, your eyes move in jerks, stopping at certain words and skipping others. Reading only happens when your eyes stop. If you reduce the number of movements per line of text, you will learn to read much faster. But be careful - there have been studies that have found the limit of what the reader is able to see at a time:

    • You can read eight letters to the right of your eye position, but only four to the left. It's about two or three words at a time.
    • You notice letters 9-15 spaces to the right, but are unable to read them.
    • Ordinary readers cannot read the words on the other lines. Learning to skip lines and still understand the material is extremely difficult.
  2. Reduce the amount of movement your eyes make. Normally, your brain decides where to move your eyes based on how long or familiar the next word is. You will be able to read faster if you instead train your eyes to jump to specific places on the page. Try the following exercise:

    • Take a bookmark and place it above a line of text.
    • Draw an "X" on the tab above the first word.
    • Draw another X on the same line. Put it three words further for good understanding, five words for simple texts, and seven words to skim key points.
    • Continue drawing "X" signs at the same interval until you reach the end of the line.
    • Try to read the line as soon as possible, dropping the bookmark down and concentrating only on the text under each "X".
  3. Read faster than you can understand the text. Many programs are built on the principle of increasing the speed of reading with the help of reflexes, so that the brain gradually learns to adjust to the new pace. This method has not been thoroughly studied. Your speed of moving through the text will undoubtedly increase, but you will understand little or nothing at all. Try this method if you're aiming for maximum reading speed and hope that a few days of practice will help you understand the material better. Here's how to do it:

    • Follow the text in pencil. Come up with a phrase that will take exactly one line of text to pronounce at a calm pace.
    • Try reading at the speed of a pencil for two minutes. Even if you don't understand anything, concentrate on the text and keep your eyes open for a full two minutes.
    • Rest for a minute and then speed up. Now try to read for three minutes, but now the pencil should cross two lines while you pronounce the phrase.
  4. Use programs for speed reading. If the above methods did not help you achieve your goal, try a quick sequential visual presentation. With this technique, a phone application or computer program displays text one word at a time. This allows you to choose any reading speed. But do not raise the speed too high, otherwise you will not be able to remember most of the words. This method is useful for quickly skimming through the news, but not while studying or reading for pleasure.

    Part 2

    Quick text preview
    1. Know when a quick look is worth it. This way of reading can be used for a general familiarization with the text without a deep understanding of it. You can quickly skim through the newspaper to find an interesting article, or identify key points by skimming through a textbook before a test. A quick look is not a substitute for a full read.

Read the section titles and headings. Read only chapter titles and all subheadings at the beginning of large sections. Read the titles of all news articles or magazine content.

Read the beginning and end of the section. All paragraphs in textbooks usually contain an introduction and a conclusion. For other types of text, read the first and last paragraph of the chapter or article.

      • Read faster if you're familiar with the topic, but don't try to outrun yourself. You will save yourself time by scrolling through the extra text, but it is still important to understand the meaning of what you read.
    2. Circle important words in the text. If you want to learn more, then instead of reading normally, quickly go over the text with your eyes. Now that you've got the gist of the section, you'll be able to highlight keywords and mark important areas. Stop and highlight the following words:
