Papier mache street figures. Giraffe from cotton papier-mâché (master class)

Quote message Awesome crafts for giving from papier-mâché!

I am delighted: to what extent people's imagination and pens work! These are just awesome crafts and ideas, and from what? From papier mache! (For those who don't know how to do it, check it out). Maybe do it yourself? :) Summer is ahead :)

Kitten from Lizyukov street

Hands-legs

It is better to dry layers of newspaper strips in the shade, and not as shown here.

Coated with putty

The limbs are also smeared with putty and dry. Since this was my first experience in papier-mâché, the putty idea turned out to be not very correct, because it cracks even when it dries, which can be seen on the cat's stomach.
The crow thread (http://arttulip.livejournal.com/64708.h tml) has a recipe for papier-mâché paste that gives a good hard coating.

The whole figure is assembled and now sunbathing (additional newspaper strips were pasted)

I'm starting with tile adhesive.

The bright cat turned into a black man :)

It dries up a little. As it dries, the surface becomes lighter.

Here I already covered it with a primer

And then gray paint.

Almost ready

Now we will attach the mustache and cilia.

And sit back :)

Finally got together and made a crow in the company of a kitten from Lizyukov Street
Her name is Martina because she lives on Martin Crescent Street.
Crow length - 52cm, height 22cm.

From a crumpled newspaper we create an approximate shape of the body.

We insert the legs of two bamboo sticks, previously shortened. We wrap the sticks in foil, and then wrap them with masking tape.

Wings and a beak are already outlined here, thickenings are made on the legs. The bulges are made from tightly folded newspaper or foil, and secured with masking tape.

A tail is attached and the whole body is pasted over with newspaper strips dipped in wallpaper paste. The wings are still flat.

Here the wings are already voluminous.

On top of the newspaper layer, everything is pasted over with masking tape. It is convenient to work with it and does not get your hands dirty.

Now we coat the whole bird for the fortress with a special home-made paste, which includes soaked toilet paper, putty, PVA, flour and linseed oil.

The coating is finished, the bird dries.

How to make a papier mache giraffe

Today I want to offer your attention to try to make something out of papier-mâché. Papier mache means "chewed paper" in French. In other words, papier-mâché crafts are paper crafts. In this article, we will consider the creation of a giraffe, which can be placed in an apartment, for example, in a children's room, or taken to the country house and placed near a flower bed. Garden sculptures are very fashionable today, and handmade garden sculptures are even more valued.

So where to start creating our papier-mâché crafts?

First you need to stock up on a lot of old newspapers and cardboard, plastic bottles, tape. Buy brushes, PVA glue, acrylic paints or gouache, colorless varnish. PVA glue can be replaced with wallpaper glue, or you can cook a flour paste.

How to cook a paste from flour and water?

It is very easy to do this. Boil a glass of water, add half a glass of flour and stir over low heat. The paste should turn out without lumps. Remove from fire and cool. It is not recommended to work with a warm paste, so that it can ruin the materials for crafts. In addition, it is better to cook the paste as much as necessary, because it is not worth storing it. It quickly loses its sticky properties.

1. From plastic bottles we create the frame of our future crafts. The body can serve as a three-liter bottle of water. For the neck and legs, we need thinner bottles.
The legs of this giraffe are made simply. The bottom and neck of the bottle were cut off. The bottle was then cut lengthwise and rolled up. A neck was threaded into one end, it turned out something similar to a hoof. All parts of our frame are fastened with adhesive tape.

2. After that, it is necessary to glue the base of our craft with pieces of torn newspaper. With a brush, apply glue to a piece of newspaper and glue it tightly to plastic bottles. It is enough to glue one layer of newspapers. After the paper dries, we take the papier-mâché mixture, which must be prepared from cardboard.

How to cook papier-mâché?

The cardboard box must be torn into pieces and soaked in hot water. It is better to soak the cardboard in a large enough bowl so that it is convenient to crush it later. The soaked cardboard must be thoroughly kneaded to a homogeneous slurry, squeeze out the water and add some wallpaper paste and PVA to it. The mixture should be sticky and soft. (Papier-mache can be made not only from cardboard, for sculpting small toys or parts, you can soak napkins, toilet paper or paper towels)

With this mixture, you need to fashion a muzzle, horns, ears, legs in our giraffe, round the torso. In other words, give the giraffe a shape close to a real animal. Cover the papier-mâché layer again with pieces of newspaper. It is necessary to make several layers, so our craft will be strong. For two or three days we forget about our giraffe. Let it dry well.

3. When all layers are dry, you can continue to work. It is necessary to color our giraffe. We applied the first layer with a yellowish water-based emulsion. Let dry. For coloring this giraffe, we used color col- lers for painting paints. They are quite thick and bright. They dry very quickly. With a pencil, they drew spots on the body of a giraffe, eyes, and a mouth. And they started to paint. This is where thin brushes come in handy. One layer was enough to make the giraffe so colorful. When the coloring work is completed, let the craft dry again.

4. Concluding our work, it must be said that in all papier-mache crafts need to be varnished to keep them pleasing to the eye. If you want to put such a giraffe in the garden in the summer, then it must be varnished at least three times. Thus, he will not be afraid of either rain or sunshine.

      As time went. The girl continued to live high in the mountains. She forgot that she was an Angel in the past. I remembered only about my dream to know what love is. Indeed, it was for this reason that she violated the laws of the Almighty, left heaven and descended to earth. Having become a man, the girl continued to dream about this great feeling. In her dreams, she often heard the words "I love you" from a stranger dear to her heart. Waking up, every time I tried to remember his face, but I could not.

      AND THE HEART CONTINUES TO LIVE

      Tasha pushed her diary away from her, where she once again wrote a letter to her beloved. There were tears in the eyes. Several tears managed to fall on the page with the letter and blurred, catching the ink of the black paste, from which some words became cloudy and incomprehensible. The girl didn't even notice. Her thoughts were far away. She relived her first love again and again. So sad ending.

      CHRONICLES FROM THE WINDOWSILL

      Exactly. I am a flower fairy from the country of Merry Drop! the girl confirmed.
      - What is your name? asked Cyclamen.
      - Mmmm, Daisy! the fairy giggled, then quickly added, “Oh, no. My name is Rio Rita.
      - How so? Cyclamen squinted incredulously. - Daisy or is it Rio Rita?
      - Call me Rio-Ri! The fairy giggled even more.
      Are you fooling us? Cyclamen was offended.
      - Not. What do you. It’s just that every day I come up with a new name for myself, - the fairy sat down on the edge of the Cactus flower pot.

      RURAL ADVENTURES

      I expected more. I hoped to enter the fence and gasp “What a beauty”, but it turned out differently.
      - Wow. There are burdocks all around, - I was upset when I saw thorns and thickets of carrots.
      - No one has lived here for a long time. We will put things in order here, and it will become beautiful, - said my mother. She walked towards the house with her bags. Of course, we were not far behind.
      The dilapidated porch, as soon as we stepped on it, creaked terribly. I was even afraid that it would crumble under us. But I was afraid in vain, as the future showed, it is even more alive than all the living.
      The house was cool and dark, and smelled of dampness.
      "That's because the shutters are closed," Dad explained. - Now I'll open them.
      Walking around the house, he opened the shutters. Sunlight flooded through the rooms...

The community recently found me. I began to get acquainted with the community and came across a post for the production of the Snow Maiden from cotton wool. If you are interested in closely wadded papier-mâché, be sure to look there.
And here are my multi-colored GIRAFFE, who have replenished the collection

Under the skating rink lies a small master class. Whoever has problems with nerves, I highly recommend cotton papier-mâché :))))))

Next, cook the paste. For 1.5 cups of water, 2-3 tablespoons of starch. Or rub 3 large potatoes and heat the starch from them with 1.5 cups of water without boiling. Divide the cotton wool into strips and wetting it in a paste, without being irritated, we wind it on a wire :))))))) NOT ONCE-DRAGING!

If you are tired and desperate, and the cotton wool hangs from your fingers with a strange consistency, hang the structure to dry. Wash your hands yourself and take a picture for posterity of what happened, what if there is no continuation?

It is better to make two toys. Then on one you will come to despair, and on the other you will return to a good mood.

The giraffes were very jelly-like, didn't want to stand up and dried out slowly. Every look at them made me miserable.

I wrapped the hanging cotton wool well with threads and left it to dry overnight.

In the morning I was even more upset. The giraffe did not dry out and became all in lumps and potholes.

Then I decided to use paper papier-mâché. She grabbed some paper towels and took out the paste. It was nice to glue the giraffe. Everything aligned right before our eyes and the mood crept up!

By evening, after standing in the sun, the giraffes dried up,

No matter how hard the manufacturers of garden tools and decor try, they cannot achieve the charm that independent crafts of creative summer residents cause. Garden figures made of plastic bottles, car tires, papier mache, plywood, various pipes and other improvised raw materials cause real delight and give a smile to anyone who meets them.

DIY garden figures

Sleight of hand and no cheating

How nice it is to meet among the monotonous and boring yards with professional and identical landscape design or its absence this miracle: a plot decorated with fairy-tale characters, flowers, cartoon characters or non-existent good monsters!

You involuntarily stop, admire, absorb positive vibrations and notice how bad thoughts left your head, and with a barely noticeable smile you continue on your way ...

Who are they, the creators of this wonderful fairy-tale world of the master? Maybe some artists live here or just rare talented people? In fact, these are simple summer residents who showed a little love for their garden and took up its creative transformation.

Anyone can create similar figures for a plywood garden with their own hands, just start. In the process, you will see for yourself that anything can be used, unless at the beginning you need a small instruction, a guide, and we will try to provide it to you.

Important!
The most difficult thing is to believe in yourself and step over shyness.
Show the world your love and joy, and it will reciprocate, and the technical side of the issue competes in complexity with the crafts of the circle at the children's art house.

Plastic

Plastic is a favorite material for amateurs. It is easily processed, lends itself to various methods of fixation and installation, and its source is ordinary nylon bottles and plastic containers, of which a whole sea accumulates against your will.

Of course, you can only work with bottles and plastic, but more often combinations of materials are used, among which you can find:

  • Papier mache . From childhood, we all remember the technique of gluing newspaper scraps with a gradual build-up of the layer and the formation of the figure or detail we need. Any glue for wood or paper is suitable here, you can use a homemade flour or PVA paste;
  • metal wire. An excellent way of fastening parts, fixing and tying individual parts together. The material is malleable, easily cut with nippers or scissors, it is presented in abundance in any country attic, basement or workshop;
  • Concrete. This material is also available in the countryside and plays the role of gypsum, only gypsum is durable and waterproof. Do-it-yourself garden figures made of concrete are made much easier than it might seem at first;
  • Plywood. From scraps or whole sheets (if you don’t mind, of course), you can cut out any or detail, because electric jigsaws allow you to do this without having special skills and experience;
  • Various pieces of plastic pipes, hoses, corrugated channels, insulation- these are almost ready-made paws, fingers, necks and tails of fabulous or real animals, it all depends on your imagination and courage.

But back to plastic. Empty eggplants are just a Klondike: here you can see both the whole body and the finished pig, and cutting it into the right pieces, you can collect plumage, petals, ears - yes, anything.

Important!
The material is easy to cut, glue, fasten with wire or fishing line, self-tapping screws and other materials.
Thus, plastic can serve as the basis of the product, as well as elements of its decor.

Giant mushroom from a bottle and papier mache

So, in order for you to understand what we are talking about and believe our tales, we will consider the manufacture of a mushroom step by step:

  1. We take a plastic cover from paint or putty, cut a hole in its center and put it on the neck of a 1.5-liter eggplant;

  1. We dilute PVA glue in water, cut the newspaper into strips and stick it on the bottle and cap in layers using the papier mache technique. We form the figure of a mushroom;

  1. We soak the egg trays in a bowl of water overnight, then grind this mass in a blender and add a little PVA and putty. Mix until smooth;

  1. We apply the resulting mass with our hands on our mushroom, giving it a more natural shape. The mass is applied by hand, it sticks well and sets quickly;

  1. We sculpt the elements of the face from the same egg-tray mass - nose, cheeks, beard, eyes. We add at will the hands and other details of our hero. Let dry;

  1. After the mass has completely dried, we cover our giant with a waterproof grout for tile joints. The grout is prepared according to the instructions on the package;

  1. When the grout has dried, paint the hero with facade paint. It is better to use acrylic or silicone paint. Voila - our giant mushroom is already asking for a garden, where the most prominent place has been prepared for him.

Important!
Remember to apply a good coat of waterproof grout and two or three coats of exterior paint, otherwise the rain will quickly turn your masterpieces into a pitiful sight.

How many people - so many ideas

Now we want to say the main thing. You are not limited by anything except your imagination and creative thinking: garden figures made of metal, empty pots, old utensils, toys - and what you will not meet.

Experiment and do not be afraid of anything - this recipe has given many interesting and even important results in the course of the history of human development, and work and creativity will make you truly happy people.

Start small, try your hand at different techniques, and over time you will realize that nothing is impossible, you will find your own material and technique, style, and, perhaps, they will talk about you as a new self-taught sculptor, whose work will be set as an example others and post on design forums.

Most of those who today make money on the manufacture of exclusive garden sculptures started that way, without having the slightest idea about painting or sculpture, but what about sculpture - banal modeling.

What is important here is not academic knowledge (although they will not be superfluous), but the desire to create, the desire to feel like a child again, the desire to give people moments of joy from contemplating your work.

Important!
Even if you do not find a great talent in yourself, then you can definitely do primitive, but beautiful and non-trivial things.
The main thing is to try, start, and there you will see, in any case, all you lose is a few hours, empty bottles and old newspapers.

Conclusion

Decorate your garden with your own hands - what could be more natural and harmonious? And if it turns out that it is also easier than ever, then there will be no barriers at all. The video in this article will convince you of this completely.
