Due to numerous requests and hints from workers, I want to show you how to sew a dress for your favorite doll easily, quickly and accurately! I immediately warn you that with some points, cutting and sewing professionals may not agree with me. In this master class, I simplify many points. So, my daughter's baby doll will be loved as a doll. Let's get started!

We will need small pieces of fabric in the color that you like, it is better that it be cotton or soft linen. Lace and ribbons for decoration, three buttons for fasteners, threads and inspiration!

1. We make a pattern. To be honest, I don’t like to bother too much, so I fold the album sheet in half, apply it to the baby doll (mentally dividing the baby doll in half too). I draw a pattern, cut it out, adjust it, and we get something like this pattern for the front of the bodice.

2. Next, folding the fabric in half, lay out our pattern and redraw it in front of the bodice, then, folding the pattern in half again, draw a mirror of the back shelves. Notice how the lines go. For convenience, of course, you can make a separate shelf pattern. We raise the neckline and lengthen the side cut by a centimeter and a half. We cut out, capturing two layers of fabric at once with scissors. Cut out with seam allowances. As a result, we should get two front and four rear shelves.

3. We sew lace to the front part of the bodice in this way, but so that the line does not pass through the holes on the lace - they will still be useful to us for lacing!

5. Now we fold both sets with the right sides inward and sew them together, leaving only the bottom and side sections intact. We make cuts in the places of rounding. We twist and iron. Here's what should happen.

6. Now we sew the side sections so that the seam is inside this entire “construction”.

7. We put the bodice aside and prepare the hem. We measure the desired length, taking into account the seams and hem. I got a cut of 20 by 80 cm. We process the side sections with a zigzag stitch, fold it once on the wrong side and sew it. We bend the lower cut of the hem inward twice and also sew. Smoothing out!

8. We make a line along the upper cut of the hem, pull the lower thread and tighten the hem to the desired size (waist circumference). Further attention! We fold the bodice and hem with wrong sides to each other. We sew the hem to the bodice only to the purl "set" of the bodice. When we finish sewing and turn off the hem, it should turn out like this.

Inside the dress should look like this - a photo of a slightly different dress, I forgot to take a picture at this stage.

10. Sew buttons on the back, make ribbon lace on the lace, put the dress on the doll and hand it to the happy child!

Sample dresses sewn in the same way!

Thank you very much for your attention and enjoy your work!

Dolls are perhaps the most popular toys for girls. Neither soft bears and bunnies, nor designers, nor various sets of a doctor or a cook can compare with them. And how the little ones love beautiful outfits, with sparkles, pebbles and beads! And why not please your child with a new chic outfit for your favorite toy, especially since it’s not at all difficult to sew beautiful dresses for dolls, you just need to find the time and suitable shreds for this. And as decorations, any old jewelry, small artificial flowers and ribbons will do, which will give the dress an exquisite finished look.

So, in this article we will talk about how to sew a dress for a doll, starting with the development of a pattern-pattern and ending with decorative trim.

How to make a pattern

At first glance, it may seem that the pattern of a dress for a doll is done through complex calculations, but this is not at all the case. There is an easier way. For example, to make a pattern for the top of the dress, you should measure the girth of the doll's chest, as well as the girth of the waist and hips. You should also measure the height of the bodice from the hip line to the waist and to the chest. After these measurements must be transferred to a piece of paper. To do this, a vertical line is drawn on it and, based on the measurements taken, three points are marked: chest, waist and hips. Further from these points, ¼ of the values of the corresponding circles are laid aside. At the end, from the chest line, the top of the bodice is raised to the desired height, and the side line is drawn up. As a result, the drawing should turn out half of the template in front of the bodice. For a more precise fit under the bust, darts are made, thereby reducing the figure of the side seam line. If the dress is intended for a Barbie doll or other model with large breasts, then initially you should increase the waist measurement by about one and a half centimeters, which will then be closed in tucks.

First fitting

How to sew a dress for a doll without trying on? Of course, according to a proven pattern! However, in order to make it perfect, the template drawn on paper should be finalized. And after all the corrections, it will be possible to sew various dresses for this doll, even without even having the model itself at hand. So, the template is applied to cardboard, circled and cut out. Next, the finished pattern is transferred to the fabric, and when cutting, seam allowances are added.

After cutting out the details of the bodice from the fabric, they are sewn together and tried on for a doll. Here you will immediately see where improvements are needed. Usually these include additional darts at the waistline and above the chest. They will definitely need to be noted on the cardboard template in order to further simplify your work with other outfits. Further, to sew a dress for a doll, a master class with a step-by-step description will come in handy.

How to decorate the bodice of a dress

To make the product neat, the bodice of the dress is best done on a lining, and therefore one more detail of the top of the dress should be sewn from a simpler and thinner fabric. It should be connected to the front part along the top line, closing the seam inward. To do this, both blanks are folded with their right sides to each other and a seam is laid along the upper cut above the chest. The seams are also stitched in the place of the future fastener. As a result, open sections should remain only on the line connecting the bodice and skirt. The finished upper part of the dress can be decorated with rhinestones, fabric flowers, beads, ribbons or guipure lace.

How to make a skirt for a dress

Working with a skirt, first of all, you need to decide on the model of the dress. There can be a lot of design options for skirts for a dress: year, fluffy pleated, with frills, long and fluffy, short tight-fitting, bell, straight with a long train or with a symmetrical hem. Depending on the chosen model, completely different outfits can be created based on the pattern of the same bodice.

How to sew a dress for a doll with a fluffy skirt? This is perhaps the easiest version of the bottom of the dress. All you need is a waist measurement. For its design, it is necessary to cut a strip of fabric equal to the length of the skirt, and the width will depend on the desired splendor of the future dress. So, a strip of fabric is sewn, leaving room for a fastener, the bottom of the skirt is also hemmed, all decorative elements, such as frills, ribbons and lace, are sewn to it. After that, the top of the skirt is gathered into folds, to the width of the measurement of the waist, and the thread is fixed.

Assembly of parts

When the bodice and skirt are ready, it's time to combine them into a dress. To do this carefully, you should first lay the seam "needle forward", and then trim the excess fabric, leaving 0.3 cm of the edge, then process the cut with an overcast stitch. After that, a narrow satin ribbon is carefully sewn on top of it, tucking it at the edges where the fastener will be. At the end, a Velcro strip is sewn to close the seam in the middle of the back.

Beautiful, original dresses for dolls, made by yourself, will surely please any girl. To create exclusive doll outfits, you will need some free time, your creative imagination and patience.

(or any other doll). Today the master class is more difficult - but the result is worth the effort! One scheme - and many dresses for dolls: luxurious and simple, with different patterns, straps and a belt. Your daughter will be enchanted!

For this you will need:

  • 1 piece of fabric measuring 15x6.5cm for the bodice, 1 piece of fabric measuring 12.5x30cm
  • Ribbon: 2 pieces of 6.5 cm long for the straps, if you decide to sew them to the dress
  • Velcro fastener 10 cm long and 0.5 cm wide

Materials for work: thread, iron, scissors, sewing machine.

To begin, process the edges of the fabric of all parts with a zigzag or overlock. Using an iron, fold over 0.5 cm and iron 2 short sides and one long side on each piece.

Sew these sides on a typewriter, stepping back from the edge of about 0.3 cm.

Take the piece of fabric meant for the bodice and wrap it around the doll (thank you for posing for us, Cinderella).

Pin the fabric at the back so that it hugs the figure, then pin the fabric at the front to make darts.

Sew the fabric along the darts in a back and forth stitch, but do not bring the stitching to the edge of the fabric (be sure to use the correct thread).

Try on the bodice and make sure the darts are in place.

Sew a seam (long straight stitch) along the top of the skirt and pull on the thread to gather the fabric.

Attach the bottom of the dress to the bodice with plenty of pins.

Flip over to the other side. Now sew these parts together, leaving about 1 cm from the edge. Finish the seam by finishing the edge with a zigzag or overlock.

Turn the product to the right side, iron and sew, stepping back from the central seam 0.3 cm.

Then sew on a piece of Velcro.

Our Cinderella looks very fashionable, retro style suits her.

If you like straps, sew on the ribbons as shown in the picture, but I have posted them just to show you.

My dress is strapless, although it looks a bit scandalous! Perhaps I will sew on a short one-piece sleeve, so the doll will look more modest. There are many options, and it's great!

This version of the dress with straps and a belt is possible.

You can also make the skirt longer for an evening dress, shorter for a summer dress, add straps, a belt, sew on a button instead of Velcro on the back, sew on a small appliqué - the possibilities are endless! And it’s also good that you can use stocks of cute shreds.
