Heel scarf at toe with knitting needles detailed description. Learning to knit a heel

How to knit socks with knitting needles?

It’s a simple question, but sometimes it confuses you. It would seem like an ordinary thing - socks, but there are many subtleties when knitting them.

Whoever does not know them is doomed to FAIL!!!

I know it from myself.

I started knitting relatively recently, just four years ago, out of my natural mischief, I decided to knit socks from my dog for myself and my husband.
My husband bought me a book - big and thick, gave me a laptop and said - “Go for it!”
And I dared, first I looked at the pictures in the book, then I went to one of the sites (purely by accident) and there I pestered the author who was teaching a topic about knitting some simple socks.
This author turned out to be Irina Erkulchik, and this is where our fruitful acquaintance began.
If Irina had sent me then (as is usually done), I would probably have given up my knitting needles and taken up macrame, or weaving from newspapers, or weaving, or I would have painted a picture, although at that time I was actively embroidering half-cross stitch, and I liked it, but I They didn’t send me, but they explained it clearly and that’s how my acquaintance with knitting socks began, and then on the list -... a lot of things and a lot of different techniques.
So, this is what it means - Old age, one just wants to talk!
I collected information all over the Internet, all from different sites.

We begin our acquaintance with the types of heels.
So - How to knit socks!!!
Types of heels.

Straight heel (or regular)

Stepped heel.
Probably it can be considered a variant of the previous method of knitting a heel.

1 Transfer the loops of the 1st and 4th knitting needles to one knitting needle and knit the spots in straight and reverse rows using stockinette stitch (knit stitch - knit stitch, purl row - purl stitch) or a pattern with removed loops ( see page 28). Set aside the stitches of the 2nd and 3rd needles.
2 At the same time, knit 2 stitches on both sides of the heel in garter stitch (knit and purl - knit stitch), this makes it easier to count the rows and creates a more textured shape. Knit the number of rows indicated in the table on page 126 for the 1st stage.
Z At the end of the next person. R. set aside the number of loops indicated in the table on page 126. Rotate the work. At the end of the next purl. R. set aside the same number of loops. On the remaining loops, knit the 2nd step (the number of rows is indicated in the table on page 126) in stockinette stitch or in a pattern with removed loops, while again knitting 2 stitches on both sides in garter stitch.
4 In the next person, p. remove 1 stitch as knit, at the end of this row along the left edge of the 2nd step, knit loops from the edge loops (see the number in the table on page 126). at the same time, knit the last loop knitted from the edge and the first set aside loop of the 1st step together (slip 1 stitch as knit, 1 knit and pull it through the removed loop). Turn work to purl. R. remove 1st stitch as purl. and knit stitches purl. After this, along the right edge of the 2nd step, knit the same number of pegels from the edge stitches, while knitting the last loop knitted from the edge and the first set aside loop of the 1st step together. Rotate the work. Knit in stockinette stitch or slip stitch pattern in this manner until all the reserved stitches of the 1st step are used. Then knit the loops of the first half of the heel.
5 Distribute stitches onto 4 double needles. Knit the loops of the second half of the heel with the 1st knitting needle, along the left edge of the 1st step, knit loops from the edge ones (see the set of loops for the instep wedge in the table on page 126). Put the delayed stitches of the 2nd and 3rd needles back into work. Using the 4th knitting needle along the right edge of the 1st step, knit the same number of loops from the edge stitches as on the left edge, and knit the loops of the first half of the heel.
6 Knit the instep wedge in circular rows, with every 2nd r. knit on the 1st knitting needle a third from the end and the penultimate loop together knit, on the 4th knitting needle remove the 2nd st as knit, 3rd st knit. and pull it through the removed loop. Repeat these decreases until there are as many stitches left on the 1st and 4th needles as on the 2nd and 3rd needles. Then tie the foot according to the instructions.
Boomerang heel

1 The boomerang heel is knitted on the loops of the 1st and 4th needles, which need to be divided into 3 parts (see table on page 126). Set aside the stitches of the 2nd and 3rd needles.
2 First part of the heel: 1st r. (front row) knit faces. and turn the work around. 2nd r. (purl row) start by making a double loop: place the thread in front of the work, insert the knitting needle into the 1st stitch on the right, remove the loop and pull the thread back tightly (so that holes do not form later). The loop turns over the spokes and becomes double. Place the thread again before work, knit the remaining loops purl. and turn the work around.
3 Next, knit in short rows. At 3 p.m. At the beginning of the row, perform a double loop, then knit. p. to the double loop at the end of the row and turn the work. Do not knit a double loop! At 4 p.m. At the beginning of the row, perform a double loop, then knit. p. to the double loop at the end of the row and turn the work.
4 Repeat the 3rd and 4th rows until only the middle third loops remain between the double loops. Then knit 2 circular rows on all loops of the sock. persons p., knitting in the 1st r. each double loop as one loop. If the upper part of the foot is knitted with a decorative pattern, then continue it according to the pattern. After this, put the loops of the upper foot aside again.
5 Second part of the heel: 1st p. (knits. row): knit the right and middle loops. and turn the work around. 2nd r. (purl): perform a double loop, knit the remaining loops of the middle third purl. and turn the work around. 3rd row: perform a double loop, knit. p. to the double loop, knit it in the same knit loop, knit the 1st p. of the left third. and turn the work around. 4th row: perform a double loop, knit purl. p. to a double loop, knit it as one purl loop, knit the 1st p. of the right third purl. and turn the work around.
6 Repeat the 3rd and 4th rows until all the heel loops are included in the work again. Then knit in circular rows on all stitches of the sock.

Socks with separate heel or tapered heel. MK in photographs.
These socks have their own advantage. As you know, the heel is the most vulnerable place of the sock and wears out quickly. Repairing socks with a separately knitted heel is very simple; simply cut it off, unravel it to the initial loops, which are put on knitting needles and a new heel is knitted.

To start knitting socks, cast on the required number of stitches depending on the knitting density and ankle width and distribute them onto 4 knitting needles.

I selected wool blend yarn (100g/180m) sectionally dyed to match the colored knitting pattern and stocking needles No. 3. The density of the knitted fabric is 10x10 cm, 23x33 loops. I cast on 48 stitches and distributed them onto 4 knitting needles of 12 stitches each.

Having tied the cuff, we determine the place of the heel. To do this, take a small piece of thread in a contrasting color and knit stitches with it from two knitting needles.

Then go back and continue knitting the sock over the contrasting thread with the same working thread, switching to stockinette stitch.

Knit the main part of the sock with a tube in the round for the length from the beginning of the heel to the middle of the big toe.

The toe is knitted using decreases on the sides. Notice that the sides are already defined by the marked contrast thread knitted section under the heel. Decrements are made in each row, knitting 2 knits with a slant to the left, 2 knits, 2 knits. together.

To do this, *approaching the side, knit the third and second last loops from the knitting needle with a slant to the left - remove the first loop, knit the next one, pick up the removed loop with the left knitting needle and throw it on top of the knitted one. Knit the last stitch from the needle and the first stitch from the next needle. Next, decrease by knitting the second and third stitches together. Repeat from * around until there are 8 stitches left on the needles, then cut the yarn. Pull the end of the thread through the remaining loops and fasten it to the wrong side.

Having knitted the main part of the sock, all that remains is to knit the heel. To do this, gather the loops on the knitting needles at the top and bottom of the contrasting thread. Then unravel the contrasting thread so that not a single loop escapes. The number of stitches cast on will be the same as when knitting the main part of the sock.

Attach the thread to any side part and knit the heel in stockinette stitch in the round with a pipe to a height of about two to three centimeters without decreasing. In the first row on the sides, make an addition of broaches one loop at a time so that there are no holes. Next, make decreases in the same way as on the toe on the sides. When there are 8 loops left on the needles, fasten them and hide the tip on the wrong side.

Knit the second sock the same way. The heel can be knitted with a different yarn, for example, a stronger one or with an additional thread.

Round heel.

Round heel socks are a new way to knit socks from Veroniki Hug.

A great idea is to knit the socks starting from the round heel.
The heel is very comfortable and in this way you can knit a wide variety of colorful, beautiful and unusual patterns.
To work, you will need 5 sock knitting needles No. 2.5, green yarn, 100g sock wool (200 meters/50g).

To make a round heel, cast on 8 stitches on 3 toe needles, distributing them across 3 needles: 3 stitches + 3 stitches + 2 stitches. We close the knitting into a ring and continue to knit according to the pattern until we increase the number of loops.

We divide the loops into four parts and tie them onto four knitting needles.
Be sure to use marking threads of a contrasting color or pins in order to know exactly where to add loops.
If the work is carried out exactly according to the scheme, then you will get a beautiful, regular heel with even rays.

Having knitted the round heel, we divide all the loops into two parts.

We collect half of the loops with an additional thread.
And we continue to knit the second half, distributing the loops of half over four knitting needles. We knit the sock with the right stitches towards the toe.
We make the toe by knitting two loops together at equal distances in every second row.
We collect the remaining few loops on a needle, into which a cut main thread about 10 cm long is threaded. We tighten it, securing the rest of the thread on the wrong side of the toe of the sock.

We knit the second half of the sock upwards on 4 knitting needles according to a small pattern, the pattern repeat of which is 8 loops per 19 rows, where knit and purl loops alternate.

Heel knitting pattern. This diagram clearly and in detail shows the distribution of loops for knitting a round heel.
The vertical stripe in the diagram is a knit stitch, and the V icon means add a loop

A small pattern diagram for the second half of the sock, which is made with an elastic band and knitted up.

The vertical stripe in the diagram is a knit stitch, and the horizontal stripe in the diagram is a purl loop.
These socks are very comfortable and look original!
I wish you good luck, inspiration and joyful creativity!

Double heel.

The heel is the part of the sock that wears out very quickly, so some knitters, in order to extend the life of the sock, knit the heels with additional synthetic thread. And some knit double heels.
Today I want to tell you how to knit a double heel. To do this we need an odd number of loops. If for a sock you cast on 44 loops on the knitting needles, then for knitting the heel take not 22 loops, but 23.
We knit as follows:
1st row: *knit the first loop, remove the second without knitting (thread at work). So we repeat from * and knit the last loop.
2nd row: purl all stitches.
We repeat knitting these two rows.
When knitting a double heel, we will need to knit twice as many rows as when knitting a regular heel. For example, not 22 rows, but 44.
When the heel of the required height is knitted, we switch to regular knitting.
In this way, only the back of the heel is knitted in double knitting, while the lower part of the heel remains single.

In winter, everyone loves to wear knitted socks; needlewomen wrap themselves and their loved ones with warm gifts. But knitted socks have one drawback - they quickly wear out on the heel or sole. To strengthen these places, you can knit with an additional thread or knit socks with reinforced heel and sole with a denser pattern to extend the life of the socks.

These socks are knitted with a reinforced heel and sole in a dense pattern, and its upper part is made with stockinette stitch, it remains elastic. The technique of knitting socks with a reinforced heel and sole is slightly different from the classic knitting of socks on five knitting needles.

To knit socks you will need 5 stocking needles No. 2.5; medium thickness yarn 100-150 g (240m/100g). The description of knitting socks is presented for sizes 40-41.

The beginning of knitting a sock is classic. Cast on 14 stitches on four stocking needles, lock them into a ring and knit the cuff in circular rows, making a 1x1 rib stitch (alternating 1 knit stitch and 1 purl stitch). Having knitted the cuff of the desired height, proceed to knitting the heel in a tight pattern.

How to knit a reinforced heel of a sock: The heel is knitted in the usual way; first, a straight fabric is made on two knitting needles with a dense pattern to the height of the heel. Then the bottom of the heel is knitted using decreases.

In the first front row of heel knitting, start knitting a tight pattern: 1 knit stitch, remove 1 stitch without knitting, thread at work. In the purl row, knit the removed loops in the previous row purlwise, and remove the knitted ones, placing the thread before work: remove 1 stitch, thread before work, 1 purl stitch.

In a dense pattern, all loops are knitted in two rows, respectively, the number of rows is doubled, the knitting is strengthened, becomes tight, and does not stretch. Knitting with a tight pattern takes longer, but socks with reinforced heels and soles will last longer.

Having knitted the heel to the desired height of 6-7 cm, knit its lower part along the sole. To do this, divide the heel loops into 3 parts. A total of 28 loops from two knitting needles, divide into 8 loops on the sides and 12 central loops.

Next, knit only the central 12 loops. At the end of each row, decrease the 12th loop with one loop from the side. In the first (front) row, knit 8 side loops in a tight pattern, 11 central loops and knit the 12th together with the side loop with a broach. Turn the work inside out, knit the central 11 loops in a tight pattern and knit the 12th together with the side loop in one purl.

Knit the center heel loops in this way until all the side loops are completed.

Continue knitting the sock in circular rows, casting on additional stitches on the sides of the heel. In each circular row on the sides, make decreases on the first and last two loops from the knitting needles of the lower part of the sock, knit two loops together with the knit stitch and two loops together with the knit stitch with a broach, on the upper part of the sock, knit in the circle with stockinette stitch, on the lower part with a dense pattern.

The wedge of the sock is knitted on the sides using decreases., the canvas should become the desired width of the foot. Then continue knitting the sock lengthwise in turning rows.

*Make one and a half rounds around the right side in stitch stitch on two needles on the bottom (sole of the sock), stockinette on two needles on the top of the sock, and stitch again on two needles on the bottom. Turn the work inside out on two needles on the bottom of the sock, on two needles on the top in purl stitch and on two needles on the bottom in a tight stitch. After completing one and a half circles, turn the work to the front side*.

Repeat knitting **, making one and a half circular rows, either on the front side or on the wrong side, while knitting a dense pattern on the sole, and knitting or purling on the top of the sock. Then for 1 row of the top there will be two rows of the lower half of the sock, the length of the top will correspond to the sole, which is knitted in a tight pattern.

Woolen socks knitted at home,— what could be more pleasant on cold winter evenings? In knitting, they are considered the simplest products, but they also have their own nuances. The most difficult thing for beginners is the heel, which requires mastering certain skills. But if you wish, you can cope with this without much difficulty by learning how to knit the heel of a sock in a classic way.

How to knit the heel of a sock?

The heel of the sock is the place subject to the greatest wear, so when knitting it should be given more strength than the rest of the product.

  • To do this, as soon as you approach the heel, add nylon to the main wool thread. Divide the knitting fabric into equal parts. Start knitting one part, which will become the heel. To make knitting more convenient, drop all the stitches from two knitting needles of this part onto one.

  • Now move on to knitting the heel in height. To determine the required height, remember, the number of edge loops must be equal to the original number of loops on one knitting needle. If at the very beginning of knitting a sock there were 15 loops on the knitting needles, then the number of edge loops should be 15, and for this you need to knit 30 rows.
  • Finish knitting the heel height with the front row, this is mandatory. To shape the heel, decrease the middle stitches of the heel portion of the knitting. To do this, visually divide the finished canvas into 3 identical parts. If the number of loops cannot be divided by 3, then add the remainder obtained from division to the middle. For example, the total number of loops is 34, leave 11 at the edges, and leave 12 loops in the middle.
  • Knit the first decreasing row using purl stitches. Knit the first part of the side loops and all the loops in the middle, except one. Knit the remaining loop together with the loop of the second outer part.
  • The second row is knitted like the first. First knit the side loops, then the middle part without one loop. Now knit this loop together with the first loop of the second side part of the heel.

Thus, until only the middle heel stitches remain on the knitting needle, alternate the first and second row. Knit the heel until its length is the same as the length of the middle part of the sock.

Knitting sock heels: classic version

Before you start knitting the heel, prepare the threads and 4 knitting needles. The knitting needles must be the same thickness. After you knit the top of the sock to the beginning of the foot and the elastic, select the type of heel you want to knit. The heel of the sock can be knitted in 2 ways: at an angle or classically straight. It is best to opt for a straight heel, it is simpler.

  • On two adjacent knitting needles, knit a fabric with a number of rows of 2 p. less than the number of loops on the knitting needles. Knit it alternating knit and purl stitches.
  • Then proceed to knitting the edge of the heel. Distribute the loops from 2 knitting needles to 3. Knit the middle part, borrowing loops from the remaining knitting needles.
  • Be sure to knit the last loop on the middle knitting needle in each row with the loop located on the outermost knitting needle next to it. You should have so many rows that the loops remain only on the fabric of the middle knitting needle. This way you will tie the bottom of the heel.
  • Add loops from the side edges of the heel, redistributing them onto 4 knitting needles and continuing to knit the fabric in a circle. In each row, be sure to narrow the fabric by 2 loops on each side until their number is the same as at the very beginning of knitting the sock elastic. Only after this can you continue knitting to create the toe.
  • If you still decide to knit the toe of the heel at an angle, change the proposed pattern a little. In this case, the heel angle is created at the junction of the knitting needles only by decreasing and then increasing the number of loops in the side of the heel. With this option, knitting the heel with knitting needles and the sock takes on a more rounded shape. Typically, this knitting option is used when machine knitting tights and socks.

Knitting sock heels with knitting needles at an angle

Take 2 knitting needles, wool thread, synthetic or gray thread.

  • First tie the heel wall. To work you will need the first and fourth knitting needles. Transfer the loops to one needle. Decide on the desired height and knit the required number of reverse and straight rows with facial loops.
  • Calculate the number of rows as follows: the number of edge loops should correspond to the number that was on the knitting needle. For example, there were 10 loops on the knitting needle, which means there are 10 edge loops, as a result, 20 rows are needed for the heel wall. The last row of the heel wall should turn out to be the front one.
  • Now move on to knitting the heel cup of the sock. Divide the finished fabric into 3 equal parts and transfer them to separate knitting needles. Add the remaining loop to the middle. You should have an equal number of loops on the right and left needles, and a little more on the middle one if the total number of loops was odd.
  • Knit the first row of the heel with purl stitches. Take 6 loops from the left side, and then from the middle. Purl the last loop of the middle part together with the loop of the right side. Leave the remaining side loops unknitted and turn the knitting over. Now the front side of the heel is in front of you.

Many people ask me how exactly I knit the heel of the socks. To my shame, I have only mastered one method so far, but I really like it. It's light and fast. That's why I'm telling you about him.

Pros in knitting, as well as those who are not into knitting, can skip this post without much pity.

So. We knit the top of the sock. I won’t tell you anything here, because there can be different methods.

In this case, everything is simple for me - 12 loops on each knitting needle. The pattern is created by the yarn itself. We bring it to the desired height.

We knit two knitting needles as usual, and transfer the remaining 24 loops to one knitting needle. Now we will only knit on it. Again, I didn’t take any drawing, so as not to confuse. We knit the knitting needle, turn the fabric and now purl it. We have 24 stitches left on the remaining two needles. We don't touch them

In this way we knit 24 rows (according to the number of loops).

This results in a rectangle like this:

Next we knit the heel itself. Let's do it like this. We divide all the loops into three parts. We got eight each. We knit only the middle part, while at the end of each row we knit the last loop on the middle knitting needle together with the first loop on the side one. In the wrong row - the same thing.

After a while you will only have the middle loops left.

The heel is ready. Now you need to cast on the loops. You need to do this from the resulting rectangle. It has two braids on the sides - from these we collect 12 loops on each side.

As a result, we ended up with 12 loops on two knitting needles, and 16 on two knitting needles (we cast on 12 and had four more left from the heel) Something like this:

The result will be a composition like this:

Now you need to remove the extra loops. Let's do it like this. We knit 24 loops on those knitting needles that did not participate in the construction of the heel (we will have one and two). Then, at the beginning of the next knitting needle (let it be number 3), we knit two loops together. Next we knit according to the pattern, but at the end of the fourth knitting needle - two loops together again. And in this way we reduce until there are 12 loops on all knitting needles. The heel is ready.

Knitting socks is a fascinating, but also difficult activity, since this process contains several rather complex elements that cannot always be knitted correctly the first time. This is especially true for the heel, because this is the area that requires precise calculation of the required number of loops.

If the measurements from the leg were taken incorrectly, the knitted product will not fit well on the leg and will cause a lot of discomfort while wearing.

What elements does the sock consist of?

Before knitting socks, it is worth finding out what sections the knitted product should consist of.

A traditional sock includes the following elements:

  • The cast-on edge is the uppermost part of the sock, which is assembled using various cast-on methods.
    loops;
  • The leg is the part of the product that is directly adjacent to the edge of the sock. As a rule, it is formed with various patterns, since the leg is most noticeable when wearing socks in shoes;
  • The heel is an important component of the product, which is assembled in both straight and reverse rows. The most common methods for shaping this area are the “boomerang” and stepped heel;
  • An instep wedge is a detail that makes the toe more “fitted” by connecting the heel and sole loops. It is in this area that the number of loops (units) is reduced so that the product fits the leg;
  • The foot is the segment between the toe and the heel. It is usually assembled using stockinette stitch from fairly strong threads, since the foot experiences serious stress while wearing;
  • The toe is an important component of the sock, which covers the toe area. As a rule, it is assembled using a tape method, thanks to which it is possible to narrow the part, making it suitable for the size of the fingers.

Knitting with regular knitting needles

How to knit the heel of a sock correctly with regular knitting needles? This master class will cover two assembly methods: the corner formation method and the rotation method. Each of them has its own characteristics, so let’s look at the diagram step by step on how to properly knit the heel of a sock with knitting needles.

In any case, the assembly of the workpiece begins with the elastic band and the formation of the stocking. Having knitted to the heel area, you need to fold all the loops located on 3-4 knitting needles onto one. To clearly demonstrate the method, we cast on 20 loops, imagining that this is half the circumference of the product.

Angle formation method:

  • Set of loops. Forming small loops, knit the first row purlwise. In this case, the first loop must be removed and not knitted. In addition, the last unit, on the contrary, is always knitted on the wrong side. At the end of the first row, a double loop should be formed from the last two units;
  • The first row should be formed so as to shorten the last loop;

  • The second row is formed in a similar way. The following rows are knitted in the same spirit, but only one loop should be decreased in each of them;
  • When only 9 units remain on the knitting needle, the reduction must be stopped;
  • Then pick up the shortened last stitch and knit it;

  • After this, pick up and knit a loop in the front row;

  • Continue assembling the workpiece in the same way, adding one unit in each row;
  • By picking up all the shortened loops, you will get a formed heel of the socks.

Rotation method:

  • To knit the heel of a sock using this method, form 21 stitches;

  • Then you should knit the workpiece using the stocking method: one row is assembled with knit stitches, and the second with purl stitches;
  • In this way, 14 rows are formed;

  • Next, knit the first 7 units, then 6, and knit the last with the first unit of the last seven;
  • Unfold the workpiece and knit 6 units, and connect the last one together with the first one from the very first seven;

  • Continue knitting in the same way until you only have seven middle units left;
  • Then pick up all the side eyelets, resulting in the required sock piece.

"Boomerang" method

How to knit a boomerang toe heel » ? The pattern discussed in this master class will allow you to knit a heel and toe with 2 knitting needles: 1st and 4th. Since the part formed using this method is shorter than usual, 1 cm before assembling the element, start knitting in satin stitch. To assemble a boomerang heel, divide the loops into 3 equal parts.

After this, knit the piece in short rows from the outer part of the product to the inner one, starting the process from the outer loops:

  • Assemble the first row in stockinette stitch together with the last unit, and then unfold the workpiece;
  • When assembling the purl row, form a double loop. In this case, it is desirable that the thread tension is good, otherwise holes will form in the part;
  • Next, place the yarn in front of the workpiece and knit all units purlwise;
  • In the third row, first form a double loop, and knit the rest using the knit method. Then turn the workpiece again;

  • 4th row, start with a double loop, and then knit inside out until the last double loop;

  • Then form two circular rows on all units;

  • Next, knit all double loops as described above.
