What is special about figures cut out of paper?

The cutting technique was inherited from our ancestors and is becoming more and more popular every year. Back at the end of the 19th century, the vytynanka became an integral part of every peasant home. Multi-colored paper figures decorated stoves, walls, door slopes and ceiling beams. Towels on the shelves replaced openwork napkins, and on the windows they had a special purpose. Based on the motif of the clipping, one could guess what event was currently happening for the owners: name day, christening, wedding, etc. Of course, for every major holiday, the glass was covered with new compositions. The most popular were images of flowers, birds, animals, churches, folk ornaments and even prayers.

In Soviet times, the surge in popularity occurred in the 70s and 80s. Probably each of you remembers how in elementary school you cut out snowflakes for windows. And not only in the elementary ones. Throughout all the years of study, many had to decorate the class teacher’s office before the New Year. Among the decorations there was traditionally a vytynanka.

Recently, this art was half-forgotten, but now it is being intensively revived. After all, this is an excellent opportunity not only to give your home more comfort, pleasant sensations, and childhood memories, but also to introduce your household to folk traditions and flavor.

In fact, the history of the clipping is very interesting and goes back a long way. We invite you to learn a few historical facts about this art:

What pictures are relevant in the Year of the Dog?

Among the New Year's paraphernalia and characters, the main place should be given to the owner of the year - the yellow dog. This homemade shaggy must be present in the holiday composition, since its purpose is to bring happiness, prosperity and prosperity to its owner. That's why we've included some templates for cutting out this cute animal.

You can also create an original panel on the wall with your own hands with a multi-colored flashing garland and Christmas tree decorations. To do this, you will need to download the stencils to your PC and print them on a printer using a regular A4 office sheet of paper. The numbers “2018” will look best on the wall next to an elegant Christmas tree.

How to make a New Year's composition on the window

The complexity of the process depends on which templates you have chosen and their number. First, decide what composition you want and select the appropriate images. For cutting you will need the following tools:

  1. scissors;
  2. stationery knife;
  3. kitchen board.

First you need to cut out the outside of the picture with scissors. Then place the workpiece on the board and remove the internal parts with a stationery knife. Try to remove all the black outlines so that the figure looks aesthetically pleasing when it shows through on the glass. To glue the “cut-outs” prepare:

  1. a glass of warm water;
  2. bar of toilet soap;
  3. artistic hard brush;
  4. sponge;
  5. a small piece of fabric.

Dip the brush into water and rub over the surface of the soap until a thick solution forms. Apply it to the figure on one side and immediately apply it to the glass. Press it well with a sponge and if air bubbles have formed under the paper, expel them with a soft cloth. Please note that the soap solution must be sufficiently viscous, otherwise the entire New Year's composition will end up on the windowsill in a couple of days.

Taking pictures is very easy. Simply wet the paper with warm water, wait a few minutes until it gets wet, and scrape it off with a knife. If you use a wide spatula and proceed carefully, the pictures may come in handy next year.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated in this process. Therefore, you can involve your child in the activity. Give him the task of cutting out the outer side of the templates, while you work with a stationery knife for safety reasons.

We have collected for you the most common and original methods and ideas for New Year's window decorations, which will help you instantly turn your cozy nest into a fairy-tale castle. Imagine, create, enjoy the process and the result!

Even if there is no snow outside yet, you can create a whole whirlwind of snowflakes at home. All you need for this is paper and scissors. You can take both ordinary A4 sheets and unusual ones, for example, candy wrappers, napkins with beautiful designs, colored cardboard, thin bright fabrics or origami sheets.

Having folded the square-shaped paper in a special way, draw a diagram of the future snowflake with a pencil and cut out all the excess. Each snowflake will be unique in its own way, since to create them you can use sheets of different sizes and all kinds of patterns. Glue the made openwork snowflakes directly onto the window glass using paste or hang them on strings of different lengths. The paste should be made from starch, which must be brewed in water. It is most convenient to apply it to a snowflake with a brush, and after gluing it to the glass, you need to remove excess “glue” with an absorbent napkin.

So-called volumetric snowflakes have now become very popular. They consist of sectors of several ordinary snowflakes, fastened together in a special way. Thanks to this, the design of the snowflake turns out to be very light, airy and bewitching. Snowflakes made using the origami technique look original. The most common pattern for such a snowflake is an isosceles hexagon. It’s best to make your first snowflake by watching an instructional video.

About decorating windows with paper stencils

Print or purchase stencils of Father Frost and the Snow Maiden, Snowman and snowflakes, Christmas trees and New Year's balls, carts with deer and other fairy-tale animals and characters. Pay special attention to the stencil depicting the animal symbol of next year. Place it in the center or make it larger in relation to other figures. Additionally, they can be decorated with glitter, varnished or painted with colored gel pens, markers or felt-tip pens. In addition to individual figures, you can cut out an entire composition, for example, snow-covered trees around a house with a chimney, Santa Claus in a sleigh with deer, birds in bird feeders in the trees, children decorating a tree or angels with candles.

About decorating windows with New Year's garlands

You can make a wonderful, attention-grabbing garland with your own hands in just a couple of hours. And if you turn on a good New Year’s comedy at this time, you will definitely be in a festive mood. To create a garland, you will need several sheets of multi-colored cardboard, on which you must first mark according to prepared templates and then cut out stars of different sizes with scissors or a stationery knife.

By the way, these can be crescents, circles, Christmas trees, and everything that your imagination tells you. Each of these figures needs to be covered with glitter on one side, and when they are dry, a strong thread is glued to the other side of the figures to tie them together. A garland with figures alternating in color and size looks very original and stylish. In addition, garlands can be created from ordinary tinsel by gluing pine cones, bunches of rowan berries, small toys, balls crumpled up from foil and the same cut out figures with sparkles onto it.

A garland of cotton balls looks unusually airy and light. To make it, you need to roll balls of medical cotton wool and string them on fishing line or strong white thread. To make the balls hold their shape better, they can be coated with a small amount of PVA glue. It is recommended to separate each ball from its neighbors using knots. You can alternate cotton balls with paper snowflakes. Having made several of these garlands, they are hung on a horizontal rope on the eaves. The length of the balloon garlands should be approximately the same as the height of the window.

About decorating windows with electric garland

On the New Year's decorations market there is a huge variety of electric garlands of all kinds, shapes, colors and different flashing modes. As window decorations, they can be hung along the entire contour of the window or from the top to the window sill. Garlands-curtains or garlands-nets, specially designed for decorating flat surfaces, look the most impressive and solemn. You can also use an ordinary electric flashing garland to build the outline of a glowing Christmas tree or snowman on the window.

About decorating windows with beautiful designs

1. Ready stickers

If you want to take an easier path, then purchase special vinyl window stickers in stores in the form of Christmas trees, snowmen, deer, Santa Clauses, Snow Maidens, bells, etc. They are sold both as individual elements and as whole compositions.

2. Self-made stickers

If you have the time and desire, you can print out the templates found on the Internet on a color printer and cut out the figures yourself.

3. Hand drawn drawing

If you want to show your creativity, then use toothpaste, gouache, watercolor or “snow” from a spray can to paint on glass.
To apply a design to glass with “paint” in the form of toothpaste, you will need tools such as a sponge, dishwashing sponge or toothbrush.

Toothpaste should be diluted in a small amount of water and, applying pre-prepared stencils to the window, evenly distribute the mixture with the selected tool along the slots of the pattern template. The most convenient way to do this is with a foam sponge.

You can create entire compositions from stencils, placing them over the entire surface of the window. And by spraying “paint” with a toothbrush, you can get original snowflake dots around the main drawings. You can draw snowdrifts by hand at the bottom of the glass, which will make the composition complete and harmonious.

After the New Year holidays, toothpaste can be washed off well with regular wet wipes, and if you also use a special glass cleaner, it will not be difficult to return the windows to their original appearance. You can use lace napkins or tulle as stencils for liquid “snow” from cans. Secure them to the glass with masking tape and apply “snow.” Once the fabric is removed, the windows will be left with flawless lace designs.

About decorating a window with a Christmas wreath

A Christmas wreath in the center of a decorated window composition will look very beautiful and unusual. To make it, you need to cut a ring out of cardboard, and then cover it on both sides with snowflakes, stars, small balls and cones, cover it with glitter, tie it with satin ribbons or thin tinsel, and decorate it with small bows. Choose colors according to your mood and taste. The Christmas wreath can be either snow blue or burgundy green. There are no strict rules, the main thing is that you like what you do.

About decorating cornices and curtains

Remember that, in addition to window glass, you need to festively decorate the cornice with garlands, tinsel, colorful rain or Christmas tree decorations on ribbons of different lengths. Curtains will sparkle with new colors if you carefully sew snowflakes and beads onto them.

About window sill decoration

On the windowsill you can display ikebana - a New Year's composition of Christmas tree branches, pine cones, tangerines and decorative candles. Flower pots can be wrapped in tinsel, and the surface of the window sill can be sprinkled with small metal stars, which can then be easily collected with a magnet. In addition, you can put small toys from souvenir shops on the windowsill - cats, bunnies, bear cubs, etc., tying a small rain bow on each of them.

About decorating a window with illuminated paper panoramas

This method of decoration appeared relatively recently, and has already proven itself well as an elegant, original decoration for windows. Preparing panoramas requires some free time, but it's worth it! You need to take several sheets of thick paper and glue them together, or cut whatman paper. The result should be two stripes that will be equal to the length of the window sill.

Pre-selected New Year-themed plot stencils must be applied to these stripes with a simple pencil. These can be Christmas trees of different heights, houses with windows and chimneys, or snowmen. It is recommended to draw and cut these elements as a continuous design. After this, it is necessary to vertically fix the made stencils on the windowsill so that there is a small distance between them.

To do this, use foam rubber or a flat box with sand. An electric garland should be placed in the gap between two paper decorations. In the dark, it will illuminate the drawing in an original way, thereby creating a panoramic picture. Such windows create a warm, homely atmosphere and attract the attention of guests and passers-by.

About decoration from Christmas balls

If you don’t plan to put up a Christmas tree this year, but you have a lot of New Year’s glass balls, decorate the window opening with them. Tie a satin ribbon to each of these balls and secure them to the upper cornice. Use ribbons of different colors and lengths, and then the balls will hang at different levels, which will create an original, spectacular look for the decoration. You can also create the silhouette of a Christmas tree from balls suspended at different heights, additionally decorating its outline with green tinsel.

About decorating from gifts

Select about 10 small boxes (cosmetics, groceries, or matches) and wrap them in several different types of gift wrap. Tie bows on top and place them on the windowsill or hang them on a strong thread.
