The New Year is getting closer, I really want to touch this magic. Of course, it’s still too early to decorate the Christmas tree, but you can get creative, for example, make New Year’s balls with your own hands. There is an article on the blog about it, there are a lot of interesting ideas there.

Balls are considered the most popular decoration; of course, you can buy them, the choice is huge - small, large, plastic, glass. But handmade items are not just decoration, they are a mood, a piece of the soul. This toy will stand out on your tree or make a great New Year's gift.

Nowadays the English expression “hand made” has become popular, which means “hands do.” And this is not just a fashionable word; now handmade things have become valued. Huge supermarkets are opening where you can buy a lot of goods for hobbies, creativity, handicrafts, if you wish.

I suggest looking at different design ideas - from simple ones that anyone, even a child, can handle, to more complex ones.

DIY Christmas balls for 2019 - 2 step-by-step master classes

The coming 2019 will be the year of the Yellow Earth Pig, which means that the New Year tree simply must have a toy in the shape of a Pig. There are a lot of ideas on the Internet, we will consider those that will have a round shape.

Do you know that the predecessors of balls were ordinary apples? In Europe, Christmas trees were decorated with this biblical symbol in ancient times. In one of the lean years, glassblowers came to the rescue by making apples from glass. This innovation quickly caught on. The glass products reflected the light of the candles, which made the decorated Christmas tree more festive.

Looking at such a product, it seems that it is very difficult to make. In fact, even a child can handle such work, the main thing is to understand the manufacturing principle.

It’s better to learn on a large model, then you can use it to decorate the interior, take it to a kindergarten or school to decorate a large New Year tree. Once you understand how it is made, you can easily repeat the steps on smaller products.

The main rule: do not get confused with the order of applying glue.

How to do:

Honeycomb balls can be made from fewer halves, and then the honeycombs will be rarer.

DIY Christmas balls in shabby chic style

Balls in the shabby chic style can be very different, because it is not a technique, it is just a style.

The founder of this style was the Englishwoman Rachel Ashville, who initially bought old furniture, decorated it for herself, and later began selling her work. Accordingly, a general interior was created for such furniture. The peculiarity of this style is tenderness, warmth, and not the pretentiousness of expensive things.

Today, “shabby chic” is a fashion trend based on the principle of giving things a “touch of antiquity.”

The chic style is often compared to the Provence style:

  • it is characterized by angels, soft floral motifs, mainly roses and peonies;
  • From geometric patterns, a slightly noticeable cell or strip is allowed;
  • The color scheme is light, soft, mainly white, beige, peach, and pink. You can add shades of lilac, light green, lavender, blue, the main thing is that they are not bright;
  • Shabby chic is lace, organza, satin, linen, delicate chintz.

It is not surprising that handmade items fit perfectly into this style; New Year's toys were no exception.

Scrapbooking technique for decorating balls

Scrapbooking fits perfectly into the shabby chic style, as this technique involves decoration.

To make such balls with your own hands, you don’t really need a master class. It is enough to buy ready-made inexpensive plastic New Year's toys or foam blanks in the handicraft departments.

For decoration, find in your bins, which every needlewoman has, pieces of fabric, lace, ribbons, decorations, interesting buttons, beads and, using your imagination, make an exclusive decoration for the Christmas tree.

Decoupage of Christmas balls

The now very popular decoupage technique is perfect for the shabby chic style.

It’s not difficult to master; the article mentioned above contains a detailed master class for beginners. It is enough to select pictures, decor in the right tone and unique works will catch the admiring glances of your guests.

In the video I suggest you watch a master class on making a New Year's ball in the shabby chic style using the reverse decoupage technique.

Decorating New Year's balls with beads

Craftswomen who work with beads do not ignore Christmas tree decorations. Small beads make amazing works - Christmas trees, angels, pine cones and much more. The iridescent reflections of small colored beads create the feeling of a fairy tale in the house.

Balls are also decorated with beads, and in a variety of ways. They are completely braided, creating beautiful patterns, and making exquisite openwork decorations.

To make such beautiful toys you will need beads, nylon thread or fishing line, a needle, and, perhaps most importantly, patience.

And the master class in the video will help you, good luck!

How to make a Christmas tree ball with a photo with your own hands

Now you can order different toys - personalized, with a logo, with a photograph, but for creative people it will not be difficult to make such things with their own hands. Read on and you will see that anyone can make a balloon with a photo.

To make it you will need:

  • detachable transparent ball

  • glitter
  • photo

Description of work:

New Year's ball made of satin ribbons and fabric

The imagination of needlewomen has no limits; ribbons and pieces of fabric are used to decorate Christmas tree decorations.

And it’s no longer easy to “make it out of what was there,” different techniques are used, kimekomi, kanzashi, artichoke. Balls decorated using these techniques are simply a work of art.

Kimekomi technique for fabric Christmas tree decorations

Products made using the kimekomi technique are somewhat reminiscent of our patchwork technique.

In our country it is used to make quilted bedspreads, blankets, sofa pillows, and other products, but not for New Year's toys. But it turns out that balls made from scraps of fabric also look very original and beautiful.

In Japan, kimekomi was used to make dolls by pressing scraps of fabric into wooden blanks with slots.

Materials for work:

  • foam blank
  • glue stick
  • stationery scissors
  • scraps of fabric
  • a sharp object with a rounded tip (table knife, knitting needle, crochet hook)
  • various items for decoration

The operating principle is simple:

Fabrics used for such work vary widely in both elasticity and strength. It is easiest to work with elastic fabrics; it is more difficult to work with loose fabrics with a sparse weave.

New Year's balls kanzashi

Kanzashi is a technique similar to origami, only it uses satin ribbons rather than paper. This art came from Japan; women used kanzashi to decorate their hair. Nowadays this technique is used not only for decorating hair clips, but also for decorating clothes and objects.

According to the craftswomen, if you figure out how to make kanzashi, it becomes clear that it is not at all difficult.

Whether this is true or not, you can find out by watching a video on making a New Year's ball using this technique.

Decorating balls using the artichoke technique

Artichoke is another patchwork technique that is actively used to decorate New Year's balls.

The meaning of the technique is simple - you can draw an analogy with origami - we fold pieces of fabric and attach them to the base.

Christmas tree ball made from candies

New Year, candies, sweets - these concepts are inseparable. Imagine how happy your child will be when he sees a delicious toy on the Christmas tree, although it’s unlikely to hang for long. Sweet balls can be an original New Year's gift.

To make sweet toys, you can use a foam blank and use glue, tinsel, pieces of fabric, and ribbons to form a ball.

Another option is to use split balls. This option is very simple - you just need to fill the transparent blanks with sweets and decorate them beautifully.

New Year is a magical holiday and you can touch this magic with your own hands, creating real masterpieces. Charge your loved ones with inspiration, let each member of your family make their own New Year's ball so that your Christmas tree is the most elegant. Good luck to you and have a fabulous New Year.

Elena Kasatova. See you by the fireplace.

Perhaps the most common form of Christmas tree decoration is a ball. Traditionally, the Christmas tree is decorated with balls of different sizes, but of the same color scheme, or, conversely, they take balls of the same size, but different colors that match each other. But every year it becomes more and more popular to make New Year's toys with your own hands. That is why we will learn how to make Christmas tree toys in the shape of a ball using a variety of needlework techniques!

Balls made of beads, buttons and threads

One of the easiest ways to decorate New Year's balls with your own hands is to paste them with threads or decorative cords. To make the ball look more festive, take a string of beads along with the cord and glue them, alternating with each other.

Balls of buttons and pasta

Even children can glue colorful buttons onto balloons, and all you have to do is admire the result and help them a little if necessary)

And instead of buttons, you can glue pasta or coins, and you will get the most unusual New Year's balls with your own hands!

Wrap the foam or any other ball in gold foil to mask the gaps. Alternatively, after gluing the small parts, the entire ball can be painted with gold spray paint.

Balls of thread

Making balls from threads is also not at all difficult. An ordinary ball is taken as a basis (you can use an old Christmas tree decoration, from which, for example, the paint has peeled off in places) and wrapped with knitting threads. Show a little creativity and it will turn into a ball-ball! Knitting needles are made from toothpicks and a couple of wooden beads.

Another method is based on the use of a balloon, which is wrapped with threads smeared in PVA glue. You can wind the threads in any order, and at the end it won’t hurt to coat the entire surface with glue again.

After the glue has dried, pierce the balloon and carefully remove it, and decorate the finished ball of thread with a festive bow.

Paper balls

To make this cute paper ball, all you need is pretty paper and glue.

Felting balls is another interesting way to create a unique Christmas tree decoration with your own hands!

You can felt wool balls in two ways: one is called dry felting, and the other is wet felting) The result is equally good if everything is done correctly.

Painting balls

And finally, another simple way to decorate Christmas balls is painting. It is made using a gel with glitter of various colors.

Take a suitable color and draw whatever comes to your mind) By the way, involve children in this activity, they will be delighted!

We hope that from the variety of options offered, you will choose one or more suitable ones for yourself, and your Christmas tree will be decorated with exclusive handmade New Year's balls!

Start preparing now - many great ideas are easy to implement with your own hands!

Intricate crafts can be done with children as a family, and this exciting activity will give you a lot of positive emotions. Make your home joyful and bright!

Window decoration ideas

Celebrate the New Year 2018 outside the windows painted with frost, even if the temperature outside is above zero. Window - the eyes of the house, from the outside they are visible to any passerby, and inside, decorated with garlands, lanterns, snowflakes, they serve as additional space for the implementation of design ideas.

  • Snowflakes. Filigree work will become an exquisite decoration for your home. Paper snowflakes look very beautiful on the windows of a private house, but they can also make an apartment stand out from a row of boring window openings.

Advice! There are thousands of patterns for cutting snowflakes out of paper - from the simplest to the most complex. Arm yourself with some handy scissors, be sure to think through your workspace, and start creating window decorations. The more patterns there are on the plane of the paper, the more elegant the crafts look.

  • Drawings. With water-washable stained glass paint and minimal artistic skills, you can create patterns that look very attractive from the outside and give warmth and coziness. If you are not confident in your talents, just write on the windows: “2018!”, “Happy New Year!” Give younger family members space to be creative, too. Don't forget to take a photo of the children in front of their work!

New Year's door

Here it is recommended to take advantage of the Western tradition and hang a wreath on the door of a country house from pine needles, cones and bells. The doorway is easily decorated with artificial snow, a horseshoe for good luck, and paper snowflakes. You can make the composition yourself, but there are plenty of ready-made options available in stores.

You can make a cardboard horseshoe yourself and decorate it with tinsel and rain. Write congratulations to your loved ones on it and give it as a gift when you go to visit. Any crafts are good ideas for a present or a New Year's addition.

Garlands are a classic way to decorate your home.

How to make a star from wire

We bring to your attention another idea for decorating your home for the holiday - an unusual frame star. You will get a kind of 3D effect if you make crafts in different sizes.

  1. Take a flexible wire. Bend it so that you get a five-pointed star.
  2. Prepare a sketch of the star from the photo.
  3. Cut it out of colored or wrapping paper and bend the edges so that they catch on the wire. Secure with tape if necessary.
  4. Glue the tinsel to the wire.

The stars can be hung from the ceiling in a checkerboard pattern, or they can be decorated with garlands, rain, and streamers. It will hang down beautifully and create a festive atmosphere.

Advice! If you live in an apartment with high ceilings, be sure to hang something from them. This will visually narrow the room and create the effect of floating decorations made by yourself.

Photo for memory

Every person has a framed photo in their home. Refresh them and give them a New Year's mood: hang them on a serpentine or thick twine along the wall. Fill the free space with small balls, garlands and hand-made drawings.

After the celebration, print out new photos and add them to the old ones. This composition can stay in the apartment until the very end of January. You will love this idea, and perhaps you will leave the photos on the rope, making them a permanent interior accessory.

Balls everywhere

Ideas for the New Year are not limited only to the capabilities of the needlewoman. Use themed toys, glitter, industrial decorations to decorate the room.

Balls- a wonderful symbol of the New Year. They come in different colors, sizes, shiny, matte, with a rough surface, made of different materials, expensive, cheap, vintage, modern, etc. A variant of the idea is to hang them on strings from the ceiling, secure them in the window opening in the kitchen and living room.

The symbol of the New Year is a spruce with lights and balls. Did you know that balls can be made from thread, felt, sequins, discs and even citrus scented? The decoupage technique can update even the most unattractive toy. About ideas that you didn’t even know about, further in the article with a detailed description.

Basic moments

Absolutely any materials are suitable for needlework:

You can use a foam sphere or a simple plastic Christmas ball without decorations as a basis. We bring to your attention several master classes on making New Year's balls. They can not only decorate the Christmas tree, but also create a festive interior in the house.

New Year's balls made of threads

Balls made of threads look very gentle and impressive, evoking a festive and romantic mood.

To work you will need:

  • round balloon;
  • PVA glue;
  • thick threads (light shades);
  • needle;
  • scissors.

Operating procedure

We inflate it so that the size matches the desired size of the future toy. We tie it tightly so that it does not come down prematurely. We massage it with our hands, giving it the correct round shape.

We thread the edge of the thread from which we will make the decoration into the eye of the needle. We pierce the plastic bottle with glue through the needle and thread it through. The thread, passing through the bubble, will be evenly covered with PVA, which will eliminate the need to additionally open all the threads with glue.

It is better to use PVA glue undiluted, otherwise the ball will not hold the desired shape.

Now we pull the thread through the glue and at the same time wind it in different directions, as if winding the threads into a ball. We turn the ball intensively in our hands, trying to wind the thread tightly. In the place where the air tie is tied, reduce the tension slightly.

We wind the thread to the desired density. We cut the thread and form a loop at the tip. Leave the workpiece in a warm, dry place until the glue dries completely. You can speed up the drying process by using a hair dryer.

When it becomes completely dry, pierce it and carefully pull it out.

We tie a thread or decorative ribbon to a loop and decorate the Christmas tree.

If desired, you can complement the thread toy with sparkles, beads, sequins or other decor. A composition of several different diameters looks especially beautiful.

From newspaper tubes

A fairly simple but labor-intensive manufacturing method.

To work you will need:

  • foam ball blank;
  • polymer glue;
  • old newspapers;
  • scissors;
  • decorative elements (beads, sequins, ribbons).
Operating procedure

The most labor-intensive step is twisting flagella from old newspapers. We try to twist the harnesses tightly. If you need a long harness, then glue several short ones together.

Attach the end of the flagellum in the center of the workpiece. Now we begin to tightly lay the tube, securing each new turn with polymer glue. We also securely secure the edge of the tube with a glue gun.

In this form, the product can be used for holiday decorations. Or you can go further and paint it with spray paints in any color, cover it with sparkles, beads, ribbons, etc.

Felt Christmas toys

In winter you always want warmth and comfort, so felt ones are perfect for decorating your home for the New Year.

To work you will need:

  • felt in two colors;
  • foam ball;
  • cardboard;
  • pencil;
  • scissors;
  • decorative tape;
  • pin-nails.

Operating procedure

First you need to draw and cut out of cardboard two identical templates of a simple flower with five petals. Only one template should be slightly smaller.

Place the pattern on felt and trace along the outline with a pencil. We make large blanks from one color, and smaller ones from another. Depending on the diameter, we will need from 20 pieces of each color.

Now we fold the patterns in pairs, placing the petals in a checkerboard pattern. We cut off about 10 centimeters of thin decorative tape, glue its edges to the foam blank, forming a loop. Now tightly to each other, bending the top of the petals, we attach each flower to the foam in the center with nails.

The result is bright and soft.

From sequins

Truly festive sparkling balls can be made from sequins. This decorative material has a wide range. Sequins come in different sizes, shapes and colors.

Large sequins can be glued to any sequin without convex patterns using a glue gun. Apply glue to the ball itself, sequentially gluing sequins in a circle in a checkerboard pattern.

Try to cover the holes for attaching the sequins so that they are not visible on the finished toy.

To work with small sequins, a regular one will not work, but you will need a special foam blank of the required diameter. In the center of each sequin there are holes through which we will attach the sequins to the workpiece using special nails.

By combining different shapes and colors of sequins, you can create the most bizarre patterns. Your imagination or little helpers will tell you the design options.

The main thing is to attach the sequins close to each other so that the white base does not show through (it is necessary to provide and secure a fastening loop).

Another option for decorating balloons is sequin ribbons. We also glue them with hot glue, carefully placing the turns slightly overlapping so that there are no gaps. You can make it monochromatic or alternate turns of several colors.

A bow made of a beautiful iridescent ribbon will look beautiful at the base of the mount. A decorative beaded or twisted cord glued on top will add charm to the product.

Decoupage technique

Festive ones made using the decoupage technique look very elegant and cute. The technique is very simple, but requires care.

To work you will need:

Operating procedure

First you need to paint. Pour some white paint into the container, remove the top cap and begin to cover the surface with paint using a sponge. We put the finished one on a skewer and leave it to dry, placing the structure in a glass.

In order not to throw away leftover paint, you can make several balls at once. The pattern can be selected with various New Year's characters: gnomes, fairies, Father Frost and Snow Maiden, angels, deer, etc.

Apply two more layers of paint at intervals of 1 hour to completely cover the color of the base. While the paint dries, prepare the napkins for decoupage. We iron them and unfold them. Carefully tear off the necessary fragments with drawings on a napkin, remove the thin top layer with the image.

Pour some PVA into a small container and dilute it with water in a 1:1 ratio. We apply one of the fragments to the ball and begin to glue it with a fan brush, starting from the center to the edges of the picture. We try to smooth out all the wrinkles to get a smooth surface. Thus, we glue all the desired fragments onto the ball, moving in a circle.

Dry the finished ones completely and put on hats with laces. We open it with acrylic glossy transparent varnish in 3-4 layers. You can sprinkle glitter on the still damp varnish for more shine.

This may be of interest to you:

Bright and reflective

To work you will need:

  • transparent ball for the Christmas tree;
  • hot glue;
  • scissors;
  • satin ribbon or piece of brocade;
  • old disks.

Operating procedure

Using scissors, cut the disks into small pieces of different shapes.

Take a transparent Christmas ball, apply a drop of glue, and glue a piece of the disk to this place with the iridescent side facing out. In this way, we create a mosaic of iridescent pieces, leaving small gaps between them.

We remove the hat, push a piece of brocade or a piece of bright satin ribbon through the hole inside the ball. We return the hat to its place, and hang the ball on the Christmas tree.

There is another way to use old disks to decorate Christmas tree decorations. IN In this case, crumbs from disks are used.

To obtain crumbs, grind the disks cut into pieces in an old unnecessary blender and sift through a sieve. The glitter will sift out, and all the plastic will remain in the sieve.

Now we coat the round blank with glue and dip its entire surface into the resulting shine. After the glue has dried, brush off all excess glitter with a brush.
