How to make a cardboard box for a gift. How to make a gift box? Examples and master class

Boxes covered with fabric look very nice. These ready-made boxes look very festive, it’s very nice to give gifts in them (and receive them too :))
I found an interesting master class dedicated to similar boxes; you can make them yourself.
:

The technology for this work does not depend on the shape or size of the box. Finish the outside first, tucking excess material inward, and then, if desired, finish the inside.
You can also line the box lid with a thin layer of synthetic liner or cotton wool before covering it with fabric.
Manufacturing process:
Round box. In a bowl, mix a little PVA glue with water to the consistency of thick cream. Apply the fabric to the outside of the box, wrapping it so that there is a 2.5 cm seam allowance at the edges, and cut the required amount of fabric. Coat the outside of the box with glue and attach the fabric. Carefully glue one edge to the other where they meet, tucking it inward, as shown in the picture (to do this, cut the material with a small margin in length).

Make 2.5cm (2.5cm) seams along the top and bottom of the box at equal intervals. Tuck the cut material onto the bottom of the box and inside (on top) and glue it.

Cut a circle of fabric slightly smaller than the bottom of the box. Turn the box over, coat its bottom with glue, check that the fabric is positioned strictly in the center, going beyond the edges of the seam allowances folded and glued to the bottom. There is no need to overcast or tuck the fabric, as the glue will protect it from fraying.

To cover the lid of the box, cut a circle of fabric with a diameter 2.5 cm larger than the lid itself. Glue it in the center on the top side. Make cuts on the seam allowances and glue them, folding them over the edges of the lid.

Cut a strip of fabric about an inch wider than the side of the lid and glue it in place. Cut the excess fabric in a circle, fold it inside and glue it too.

Rectangular box. Mix the glue in the same way as for the round box. Cut a piece of fabric so that when wrapped, one edge extends slightly beyond the other. Leave a 2.5 cm allowance at the top and bottom. Coat one side of the box with the prepared glue and glue the fabric, starting from the corner farthest from you. Sequentially cover all edges, applying only one of them at a time. Do not apply glue to the metal card window. Wipe off glue if it gets on the metal.
Continue gluing the fabric around the box, pressing down on the material to secure it. When you have finished gluing the last edge, turn the longer edge of the fabric under to finish it.

Use a sharp pocket knife to cut out the fabric in the card window. Do this while the glue is still wet. Trim the fabric around the metal frame on three sides, leaving a small allowance on the side of the pocket where you will insert the business card.
If necessary, apply glue to the edges of the fabric along the frame to prevent it from fraying. Use a small brush for this.

Place the remaining allowance inside the frame and glue it. Cut the card to the appropriate size to place in your pocket, label it as you wish, and frame it.

Turn the crock upside down. Glue the remaining seam allowance, tucking it to the bottom, first on the short sides of the rectangle, and then on the long ones, folding the corners diagonally. Cut a rectangle of fabric slightly smaller than the base of the box. Glue, covering the raw edges. Turn the box over, fold the seam allowances over the top edge around the perimeter and glue.

For the lid, cut a piece of fabric so that it covers it along with the side edges, as well as allowing for an allowance to wrap over the edges. Apply glue to the surface of the lid and attach the fabric. Fold the fabric inward first from the short sides of the lid, and then from the long sides, cutting it at the corners so that the material lies evenly.

In almost every home there are a thousand little things for which you need to find a place to store them so that such a container logically fits into the interior of the room. The easiest option is to make decorative boxes with your own hands from scrap materials; you can decorate them in a suitable color or use fabric with a pattern.

Decorating the finished box (MK)

Using a ready-made packaging box (usually a shoe box) will be an ideal option for storing necessary small items. You can also use cardboard boxes for paper, household appliances, dishes or other suitable sizes.

The following materials are suitable for decorating such a box: colored paper (plain or for decoupage), colored cardboard, ribbons, sparkles and beads, seashells, coins, etc. In such a situation, it is best to use any imagination, but with the condition that the box fits harmoniously into the interior of the room. Most often, the box is sheathed or covered with fabric; you can use a piece of foam rubber for softness.

If the box is intended for small items, then inside you can use sheets of cardboard to divide the space into several compartments of different sizes.

When choosing a box, you need to consider its purpose:

  • determine the desired desired size;
  • the box can be taken from under paper, a teapot or an iron;
  • buy a piece of fabric of a suitable size and color, glue and sewing supplies.

Any cardboard box will do

The fabric is most often glued or sewn on both the outside and inside of the box for softness. Here are step-by-step instructions on how to do this:

1. You need to take measurements of the box from all sides and cut the fabric according to these dimensions.

2. Sew the prepared pieces of fabric. The material can be taken in one color or for different sides - contrasting tones (choice to your taste).

3. All sides of the box are coated with glue, and the fabric is glued to the box.

4. After drying, the internal and external seams are sewn manually with a needle.

5. If necessary, you can make handles for the box from colored braid.

6. Decorating the box is a flight of fancy.

Boxes made of various materials

To make boxes for books, linen, shoes or various small items needed in every home, you can use various materials. This may not necessarily be cardboard; other products that are suitable in hardness, density and texture are quite suitable.

From cardboard

Hand-made decorative boxes made of cardboard or thick paper can be of any shape - from a classic parallelepiped, cube to an original shape (heart, star, oval, etc.). The principle of manufacturing the product is very simple. First you need to draw the details of the future box, taking into account the allowances for gluing. Then cut and connect with glue. Such a box can be closed using a magnet, Velcro, or a regular removable lid of the same shape. The decor of such a box depends entirely on the taste of the owner.

Made of wood or birch bark

Do-it-yourself boxes made from birch bark are very popular now. They are woven from birch bark strips or woven into a box shape. The parts in such birch bark baskets can be fastened with fishing line. To make wooden boxes, you will most likely need a man's hands to help cut sheets from plywood or a small board. It is also better to involve a man to fasten and cut out patterns on the lid.

From newspapers

Another interesting option (but labor-intensive) is weaving baskets from newspaper tubes. The manufacturing technology is as follows:

1. The tubes are prepared separately in large quantities. They are wound on an iron knitting needle, the tip is secured with glue.

3. The strongest tubes are glued to the base (box), retreating a few cm between adjacent ones.

4. Then the actual process of braiding the base begins (based on the principle of wicker weaving).

5. After finishing, the edges of the tubes are either secured inward with tweezers or cut off. The resulting wicker box is painted and decorated with pieces of fabric, ribbons, shells, etc.

From plastic bottles

Bottle boxes are made using the middle part, which is cut out and made into rectangular parts:

  • In total, you need to prepare 6 parts for the box.
  • Using a hole punch, holes are cut around the entire perimeter in each such workpiece.
  • Then the parts are crocheted and connected with threads.
  • Small sides are also made for the lid so that it tightly closes the box.
  • Further decoration of the box-box is a flight of imagination of the hostess.

Boxes for linen (MK)

Such decorative boxes for storing books, shoes, linen and various small items can be made in large quantities; there are many different options for this. One of the practical options for the dressing room is a whole set of boxes with inscriptions or photos of shoes, so as not to search for the right pair every time. Here we use standard packaging boxes for shoes, preferably the same size.

A very necessary thing in a woman's wardrobe is a laundry organizer box with different compartments for each item of clothing. Such an organizer can again be made from cardboard:

1. It is necessary to measure exactly all the dimensions inside the box: the frame of the box with the cells must exactly match the dimensions so as not to move in the future.

2. Strips of cardboard are cut out, covered with paper or fabric on both sides, the frame must be carefully fastened, pasting all the corners inside and out.

3. Strips for partitions are cut for the cells; the easiest way is to make cells of the same size.

4. Similarly, we glue the strips of cells on both sides, leaving 1 cm on each edge (ear) for later gluing to the frame.

5. To fasten them together, slots are made in the strips at the required distance: in longitudinal parts from below, and in transverse parts from above; the strips are inserted into each other through the slots - a lattice is obtained.

6. The grille is inserted inside the frame and secured with “ears” into the frame (glued or stapled).

Making a laundry storage box

Boxes with cells made in this way can be decorated by covering them with colored paper and any decorative details (lace, ribbons, etc.).

Using the same principle, a container for sewing supplies is made using a ready-made shoe box. Only it is better to make the cells of different sizes (for scissors, pin cushions, coils). It is better to make the lid of such a box hinged and fasten it with a button.

The easiest way is to buy a ready-made box in a store. But a thing made with your own hands is always unique and inimitable. Therefore, any housewife would prefer, using her labor and imagination, to create the necessary boxes for storing all sorts of small items in her household on her own, saving money.

- What is a holiday? - they ask you one day.
And you immediately answer with a smile:
- This is when everyone is happy, says nice wishes, gives gifts...
And in response to you:
- So, if you give someone a gift today and wish them something wonderful, it will be a holiday?
And it’s true... And you can even give a handful of sweets. The main thing is how to do it. Perhaps we should start with unusual packaging. A DIY paper box is a great idea for an original gift or surprise.
Even a purely symbolic gift will be worthy of admiration if you present it in its own packaging.

Materials and tools

So, what may be needed when making all kinds of boxes.

  • Paper.
It is best to take paper for scrapbooking - it is good because it can be double-sided, with a different design on each side. Thick designer paper, colored paper for pastels, cardboard (density 200-300 g/m2), a simple sheet of whatman paper or watercolor paper, which you can paint or tint yourself, are also suitable.
You can also use “yellow” note paper (or an envelope made from it), wrapping paper... and any other that you can use for decoration.
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Napkins (preferably thicker)
  • Ribbons, ribbons, laces
  • Beads, buttons
  • Ready-made labels
  • Scissors, stationery knife
  • Double-sided tape, glue stick
  • Superglue or “Moment” universal glue (transparent gel) for attaching beads and other things
  • Ruler, pencil
  • Compass
  • Hole puncher
  • Nail file (for creasing)

Useful advice. Before you take on the paper that will make up your box, try assembling it from plain paper. You will understand where to cut, how to make folds more conveniently, how to assemble the box. Plus, you can estimate what size box you need. Often the first pancake is lumpy - so let this lumpy be made of simple cheap paper.
Decor. As for the elements for decoration, you don’t have to limit yourself here: make flowers from fabric and paper, combine ribbons and raffia, lace, whatever you can think of. The main rule is not to overdo it.
And now about the boxes themselves. There are a huge number of options, models and schemes for their manufacture. We offer you the most popular ones - from classic round and square boxes at the base to unusual bonbonnieres. But first things first.

Square box

You can give anything in it. From candies and cookies to handmade soaps and jewelry. Naturally, each gift must have an appropriate box decor.
In this case, the packaging is stylized as a postal parcel. This gives it a special romanticism, because the services of traditional mail for sending letters and gifts are used less and less today.
If you use colored paper with a pattern, the box will have a completely different mood. Choose yours!

You can create such a beautiful paper box in just a few minutes

This is one of the possible options for making a square box. It will be made from a single sheet, without a separate lid. Let's begin.

Redraw the diagram of the box onto paper. We think about the right size in advance. Cut it out.

Carefully bend the workpiece along the dotted lines that are drawn in the diagram.
If the paper is thick enough, you can crease it first to make bending easier. To do this, attach a ruler to the fold lines and run a nail file (the tip of a compass, the tip of scissors) along them. There should be a groove - a depression along the line. Now all the folds will be clear.

We glue strips of double-sided tape as shown in the figure. Instead of tape, you can use a glue stick, but tape is still more reliable and more convenient.

We decorate the walls of the box from the outside while the box itself is still disassembled. And then we glue it together. All that’s left is to insert the gift and bandage the packaging!

With round base

The box of this model is more suitable for gifts for women. Although everything again depends on the gift and decor. In it you can present both beads and a tie (if you twist it with a snail), as well as a scented candle, a New Year's ball or even a cupcake!
Such a DIY paper box can later serve as an excellent box for small items (buttons, beads, etc.).

So let's get started.

Select the desired radius of the circle at the base. Using a compass, draw 4 such circles on thick paper and 2 on corrugated cardboard.
We measure out 3 strips on paper. Their length will be equal to the circumference of our circles (yes, we’ll have to remember our favorite formula 2πR). The widest strip will be the height of the box, another will be 1 cm narrower, and the third strip will be the narrowest - for the height of the future lid.
It’s difficult - only while you’re reading this, you should start doing it - and everything will become simple and understandable!

We cover the corrugated cardboard circles with paper. We have the bottom and base of the lid.

Glue the first and second strips together as shown in the figure (the vertical shift is approximately the thickness of the bottom of the box, the horizontal shift is 1 cm). The front side of the paper should be facing out. We decorate the future wall of the box.

We cover the bottom of the box with a double strip of paper in a circle. Then we paste the remaining narrowest strip around the base of the lid.
The box is ready! We place the gift inside and close it with a decorated lid.
You don’t have to decorate the lid separately, but tie the entire box with ribbon. For example, like this:

Elegant boxes and not a drop of glue!

Is it possible to make a paper box with your own hands quickly and without any glue? Voila! There are more examples of such packaging than you can imagine.
Everything is made from one sheet of paper. The main thing is to carefully cut the workpiece and bend it correctly. At first glance, the diagrams of some boxes are complicated, but in reality everything is much simpler. Each subsequent box will become easier to assemble. We recommend that you practice on plain paper first!
When working with thick paper, creasing will again be of great help. Let's try!

1. Strict box – male version.

Although if you make it larger, from paper with a delicate print and decorate it with a flower, it will be just right for giving lingerie.

Ideal for sweets and anything fluffy and airy.
In order to thread a ribbon or lace, make holes in the workpiece in advance with a hole punch.

Suitable, for example, for loose aromatic tea. Or for some bottles, candlesticks.

It looks very laconic, perfect for a men's gift.

And with brighter decor, it would be a good option for a gift for a woman.

Here is the same case, but a slightly different configuration. This option can be opened and closed thanks to a unique clasp.

Cute bonbonnieres

Bonbonnieres are a special type of boxes. Bonbon in French means candy, and the name of the boxes comes from the word “candy bowl”. It is the bonbonnieres with candies or sweet dragees that the newlyweds give to their guests at the wedding - in response to congratulations.
Ordering a bonbonniere to be made for each guest is not a cheap pleasure. But it won’t be difficult for the bride and her bridesmaids to make bonbonnieres in the style and tone of the wedding.

1. One of the simplest options

2. Elegant.

They resemble a box or a small chest.
Just a little more difficult than the first ones. We make slits in them with a stationery knife, holes, if we want to pull in a ribbon or lace, with a hole punch.

3. Unusual and tasty.

As a rule, bonbonnieres are located on a special separate table and often on a dish or tray. You can beautifully play with this situation and make bonbonnieres in the form of pieces of cake. And you need to place them together, as if it were a paper cake.

First, we draw a large circle (the plane of the cake) and divide it into sectors in order to know the parameters of our pieces.
Then, according to the dimensions, we draw a diagram of the development of the piece. We make the required number of developments, cut them out and glue them together. You can decorate before gluing, or after - it all depends on the idea of your decor.

It's hard to think of a simpler thing than a box. Despite its simplicity, it is very versatile, because you can store any items in it, from small things to large things. It can also be used as gift wrapping. But how to make it out of cardboard with your own hands? Yes, very simple!

So, let's start making our box. You will need:

  • Large, thick sheet of cardboard;
  • Scissors;
  • Glue.

How to make a cardboard box: job description

In the center of a sheet of cardboard you need to draw a rectangle - the bottom of the box. Decide on the size yourself, depending on what this box is needed for.

On the right and left you need to draw adjacent rectangles - the sides, the height of which is equal to the depth of the box.

Draw 2 more rectangles from the top and bottom to the edges of the rectangle - the back and front sides. Their height is equal to the height of the sides. On their sides you need to add connecting flaps, the width of which depends on whether the objects will be stored in it, heavy or not. The smallest value for these valves will be 2 cm; the larger they are, the stronger the box.

DIY boxes and boxes made of cardboard, ready-made diagrams for different sizes:

Trim the edges of the valves at an angle of 45 degrees.

While it dries, you need to make a lid. Its length and width are 6–3 mm greater than the width and length of the box; the sides can be made to any height. Do the same as the box.

Decorate the box in any way you like.

The box can be made of any shape; to do this, you just need to select the required cardboard box template. Here are a few:

This is a box for a loved one, for a small and sincere gift:

Master class on making a round box

And here is another cardboard box, a master class of which is given below.

What you need to prepare:

  • Ruler;
  • Scissors;
  • Stationery knife;
  • Knitting needle;
  • Double sided tape;
  • 1 sheet of cardboard.

Description of work

Draw or print a template on a sheet of paper.

Carefully cut out the blanks without damaging the sheet, like this:

The resulting windows will be needed as a stencil for scoring.

Cut out circles.

Place double-sided tape on the back side of the sides, leaving 1 cm from the edges.

Glue the halves of the sides together and give them an arc shape to make the box round.

Cut out the cloves.

Connect the side to the bottom; to do this, glue the smaller circle to the teeth inside the box.

Now you need to connect the edges. To do this, insert one edge into the other and make a mark

Then cut off the top of the inner edge 1mm to the mark

And cut off a strip of the inner layer.

Insert this edge between the layers of the other edge and glue it together.

Such a connection will be more reliable and will be almost invisible.

The same must be done with the sides of the lid.

Now you need to stick double-sided tape on the outer circles.

And glue them, carefully pressing them, to the bottom and to the lid.

The gift box is ready, and for beauty you can decorate it with a bow.

This is how you can easily and simply make different boxes with your own hands, which will be useful for all sorts of necessary little things or will serve as gift wrapping for friends and family.
