How to sew an owl out of fabric with your hands. Do-it-yourself owl made of fabric: three ideas in interesting lessons

A beautiful and beloved craft for children is an owl. Let's figure out what you can make an owl at home.

Ideas for luxurious birds in different techniques:

  • leaf applique;
  • from felt or various fabrics;
  • from paper and cardboard;
  • from wood and cones;
  • from tiles and buttons, etc.

Owl from tree bark

You can collect pieces of different bark, which you need to give the approximate shape of an oval, and at the top of the ears.

Owl eyes are large, acorn caps look great. We glue them in the upper part of the body (head). You can use large buttons, small cuts of twigs and other round objects for the eyes.

For the spout, a white squash seed is perfect, with a round shape up.

If the wings are made from leaves (colored paper), then the scoop will look different.

Owl from cones

Crafts from spruce, pine or cedar cones look very beautiful. Preferably a large spruce cone (body) and a smaller pine cone (head).

Detailed instructions on how to easily make an owl at home:

  • First you need to glue a small bump on a large one. Plasticine is suitable for this, you can use a glue gun. If it didn’t turn out very neat, don’t worry, big eyes will close the errors.
  • We make paws from dried bean pods. We also glue them with plasticine (glue gun).
  • The sides of the scoop should be cut with a small knife, remove the scales on the left / right or push them apart. Insert a bunch of thin twigs from a birch or other tree into the resulting gap. You get wings.
  • Excellent eyes will come out of straw bundles (hairs from any ears of corn). Collect them in a bundle and tie in the middle with a thread. Then fluff in a circle to get a fluffy rim. To keep the beam better, we fix the button in the center with glue - there will be a bird's eye.

A large voluminous owl is an excellent decoration for a child's room.

Owl in quilling technique

An elegant craft will turn out using the quilling technique (thin stripes of paper). The strips need to be twisted, having received twists - modules that are symmetrical on 2 sides. The twists are made in different sizes and give the desired shape, from which, like puzzles, we add a bird.

Sequence of work:

  • The body is made of white rolled paper in the shape of a large oval. On this base we will glue other twists - eyes, eyebrows, nose, wings and paws of an owl.
  • Eyes. We wrap a thin rod with strips of black paper. We wind white stripes on top of these twists, then blue ones. This is how voluminous 3-color eyes are obtained.
  • Brows. On top of the huge twists-eyes glue long wave-shaped modules, slightly bending up.
  • The nose is a small twist.
  • Wings - dense twists in the form of a drop, stretched down, they reach the legs.
  • The craft is ready.

Owl from a plastic bottle

To work, you need a large dark bottle (from kvass 1.5-2 liters), a brush and paints: white, light brown, yellow and black.

Stages of work:

  • We cover the bottle upside down with black - it will become a good background.
  • We draw large owl eyes: the largest circle is white, inside the smaller circle is yellow, as in the diagram.
  • The yellow nose is a small diamond between the eyes.
  • We paint the body with white paint, but it is better to bring your own creativity. For example, a twig in the beak, feathers or light brown stripes on the sides, etc.

Owl - a mosaic of buttons

Kids love mosaics, for this craft you will need multi-colored buttons and beads.

On paper, you can draw the contours of an owl. Then, on it, select symmetrically colored buttons that are the same in size.

If it turns out beautifully, you need to take a picture of the application, then repeat the photo with glue.

Note!

You can fold the outline with buttons, and inside with beads, it will be cheaper.

Now the buttons are expensive, they are easy to order on the cheap ali-express website (China).

Owl felt case

If there are pieces of felt, you can make a keychain. Let's figure out how best to make an owl. Step-by-step master class for children:

  • In the shape of an oval with ears, cut out 2 pieces of felt, carefully sew along the edges with threads. The color can be pink, blue, etc.
  • Cut a circle from a fabric of a different color, then sew it to our workpiece, slightly shifting down.
  • Sew on the eyes from 2 white circles, draw eyes on them (you can close them with large cilia).
  • Glue a black triangle-nose between the eyes.
  • Above the eyes, it is better to make a semicircle with ears, where to sew a ribbon (white, blue) by threading a metal key ring.

Joint creativity with children is useful and fun. We offer a lot of photo ideas for an owl to do at home from improvised materials.

Note!

Note!

An owl is not only a smart and beautiful bird, but also a popular symbol today. It is believed that such a toy gives children calmness, perseverance and patience, increases the ability to learn; gives young girls mystery and femininity; young men - strength; and people experiencing financial difficulties - financial well-being. And if you make an owl with your own hands quickly and simply from fabric or other materials, then the power of such a talisman will increase many times over.

If it seems that sewing a forest beauty is difficult and for this you need to have the ability to tailor, then this is a mistake. Even children can cope with the creation of the product, who will gladly take part in the birth of a new family friend.

We sew an owl with our own hands from fabric in step-by-step MK

To sew a simple owl out of fabric, you do not need to purchase special materials. Everything you need can be found at home. So, for this you will need:

  • Pattern or templates (download and print on a printer, or redraw by hand);
  • Pieces of fabric;
  • Threads;
  • Scissors, needle;
  • Buttons and other decor;
  • Glue (if the application will be made);
  • Filler (holofiber, fabric, ordinary cotton wool, etc. for a voluminous toy).

The list is small, but the scope for imagination is huge. You can choose any fabric, but it should not crumble around the edges and shine through. For crafts, old clothes are suitable, for example, jeans, bright sundresses, a jacket and even a terry towel. Each time, even with the same pattern, the result will be different, but always excellent.

The first thing that can be done from fabric is an appliqué. The easiest and fastest option that both children and beginners in the needlework world can easily cope with. To do this, you can take this scheme or those presented below.

  1. We draw by hand, or we print the template you like on the printer. To begin with, you should choose a simple one, from 6-8 elements. It is best if it is made of dense material, such as cardboard or an old box;
  2. We distribute the existing pieces of fabric over the parts of the owl's body. For applique, it is best to use felt - its edges are quite dense and do not require processing. The base can be made colored, the abdomen - plain (or vice versa). The main thing is to avoid a large number of colorful details, but this is also acceptable if you are thinking of a funny comic toy;
  3. With a pencil, thin chalk or a piece of dried soap, trace the outline of the template and transfer it to the fabric;
  4. We cut out the details along the contour and assemble the future owl. If the result is satisfactory, we take up the glue and carefully glue all the details. You can choose any sequence (either start with small elements, or vice versa - from the abdomen);
  5. The finished toy must be allowed to dry in a ventilated place for at least 6-8 hours so that the glue dries out and the unpleasant smell from it disappears.

Below are diagrams that can be printed and used to create a wide variety of colorful owl applications.

You can use felt or regular fabric.

The applique technique is also suitable for decorating children's clothes, bags and bedding. For example, owls will look very beautiful on a pillow.

We create an owl from fabric quickly and simply with a detailed description

If the appliqué technique is mastered, you can proceed to mastering the sewing technique. It is best to work with soft felt, but almost any fabric that is available will work. Since in this case you will need to work with scissors and a needle to make an owl, care must be taken. If children are involved in the creation of toys, they must be under the supervision of adults. The process itself is quite simple. There are two differences from the previous technique: we will use a needle and thread to fasten the elements, and filler to make the owl voluminous.

  1. As in the previous technique, we find the pattern or pattern we like, or we invent it ourselves. We transfer it to the fabric, cut out the details of the future owl.
  2. In order to sew one detail to another (wings, eyes, belly), it is best to use a hand seam called “forward needle”. The technique of its implementation is that one stitch is made from the face, the other from the outside. The length of the stitch and skip on the front of the product is equal.
  3. Having stitched together the details of the front and back sides of the owl, we proceed to the main thing - stitching the two halves of the owl. To do this, it is necessary to combine the parts, fasten them with sewing pins and sew the “needle forward” in the same way, leaving about 2-3 cm not sewn.
  4. Through the remaining hole we fill the toy with filler.
  5. We complete the seam and hide the end of the thread inside the toy.
  6. The resulting product can be decorated by gluing plastic eyes, bows, buttons, pockets, bow ties, etc. to it.

Depending on the pattern used, a wide variety of owlets can be obtained.

Having sewn a loop to the resulting toy, you can use it as an interior decoration (baby crib, Christmas tree, fireplace, bookshelves) or a key ring.

Video on the topic of the article

You will learn a few more ways to sew an owl out of fabric by watching the video master classes.

Today, in any store in the country you can buy absolutely everything that your heart desires.

But not a single purchased item retains the warmth of the hands of the master who made it.

And, of course, a special warmth is stored in a handmade toy.

Today's master class is invited to create a magnificent and unique craft - an owl.

Making an owl with your own hands is very simple.

Such a toy can be sewn for a child and put in a crib, hang an ensemble of several owls from the ceiling above this crib, sit in the kitchen as an interior decoration. You can make an owl with your own hands in any style: realistic, as in nature, fabulous, funny, knitted, wooden, fragrant stuffed with herbs, cardboard, stone or even plastic bottles.

Textile owlets (from fabric)

The easiest way to make owls is from fabric. The fabric is publicly available, so making owls with your own hands will not be difficult. To complete this task, you will need a pattern, fabric and simple sewing skills. The fabric is chosen dense on a cotton basis, not very stretchy. It is recommended to use textiles with an interesting funny pattern, not just plain. Future owls are 40/40 cm in size. Additional consumables: a piece of felt and leather (black), synthetic winterizer, hidden zipper, fabric glue, pattern paper, pencil, scissors.

Manufacturing technique:

Paper is placed on the table and the shape of an owlet is drawn in free form, as in the figure. The form is free and very simple;

The finished pattern is cut out in shape and placed on the fabric, the first part is cut out. It is cut necessarily taking into account allowances (1 - 2 cm.). When the first part (front) is cut out, the second part (back) is cut;

Next, the eyes and nose are cut out of felt. They are sewn to the "front part" immediately. The sewing machine is set to embroider: the top feed is turned off and the sewing mode is changed to embroider. A zigzag stitch is used;

Eyelashes are carefully cut and glued by hand. They are made of black leather;

Both parts - front and back are sewn together from the bottom with a hidden zipper. The wrong position of the fabric is taken into account. First, the bottom edges are folded in 1 cm and processed with an overlock stitch. After that, one side of the zipper is sewn, and then the other;

Both parts are sewn along the edge from the wrong side into one piece. A do-it-yourself owl can now be turned right side out;

Paws are being made. They are drawn in free form on paper, and then cut on the fabric, taking into account allowances (0.5-1 cm).

The paws are sewn with a simple seam from the wrong side. At this stage, interlining can be glued if you want to stiffen, and if the paws are not filled with padding polyester in the future. The lower edge of the parts is left unsewn for subsequent eversion on the front side. After that, the details can be turned out and sewn to the body of the owl, as shown in the figure. Optionally, they are stuffed with padding polyester, which gives additional volume. Next, the paws are turned down and the seam is laid again;

Exactly according to the above scheme, the second owlet is made, but with eyes wide open. The breast is made of felt. A leather bow is sewn on;

Both owlets are filled with padding polyester. All handmade owls are ready!

Owls made of cardboard

A unique toy can be made from corrugated cardboard. You can also decorate your home interior with it. Get very stylish!

Manufacturing technique:

Ordinary corrugated cardboard is used, from which simple boxes are made. A sheet of cardboard is taken and the upper smooth layer is removed (“torn off”);

Strips are cut (across the corrugated lines) for the body and, in the process of twisting, the layers are smeared with glue;

To make an owl with your own hands, two large eyes are made in the same way. Buttons are inserted into the pupils with glue;

On a flat cardboard, a shape for the wings, for the tail and wide eyebrows is drawn with a pencil. Then the resulting "patterns" are cut out and alternately glued to the figure of an owl;

A beak is carved out of any wooden stick, or any stick resembling a bird's beak is simply selected. The beak is inserted into the appropriate place and glued;

A second figurine of an owl is made in a pair;

Now it's the turn of homemade swings. To assemble them, you will need a simple steel wire and a thick jute thread. The thread is wrapped around the wire in several layers. After that, it can be bent into the shape of an owl swing;

Finally, owl figurines can be hoisted to their permanent place of residence.

Owls in origami technique

You can make an owl with your own hands from ordinary office paper. It's better if it's in color.

It is also easy to make such a composition. If you look closely, it is multi-layered. The main thing is to choose the right color scheme. First of all, the shape of the tree is cut out. A simple round shape of the tree crown is glued to it behind. Owls are cut out of paper. As an eye, you can use anything: buttons, strasses, felt. The resulting birds are glued to the overall composition. Next, you can cut out flowers, leaves, a raven and a birdhouse with an owlet inside. The resulting origami must be put on the base with glue to give it a vertical position. And you can also stick it on a postcard and make it a gift. It will be a great gift - handmade owls!

Examples of various techniques

Original owls made of polymer clay. Skills in working with polymer and modeling experience are required.

Amazing owlets made using the technique of overlaying a pattern on an ordinary river stone. A simple "paint on fabric" is used. The drawing is applied with an artistic brush. Drawing skills are required, as the drawing is done quickly due to the quick-drying properties of the paint, which, moreover, is not washed off yet.

Owl knitted. The technique is complex. Knitting skills and a detailed knot pattern are required.

You won't believe it's easy. Two parts and 5 stitches - or six, you don't have to be a good seamstress of all trades. The work captivates with the simplicity and elegance of the solution. Only 30 minutes, and the fabric owl is ready - at least believe it, but better check it out. Read the job description, look and make sure: half an hour - and a charming owl is sewn.

For a product measuring 15x10 cm, we need:

  • Red fabric 17x10 cm - with a margin.
  • Yellow color 10x10 cm;
  • White or paper (for eyes, 2 buttons (eyes).

Owl-wise little head - job description

Do-it-yourself owl from fabric pattern

1. Point one - owl pattern: the dimensions in the photo correspond to the product 15x10 cm.

rice. 1 Cut out the details

Cut out parts A and B from paper. Cut out two parts from the fabric of the corresponding colors - red (torso) and yellow (stomach). Mark the indents for the seams (Fig. 1).

fig.2 Sweeping the owl

2. Place part B with the wrong side on the wrong side of part A, sweep on the left side (Fig. 2), leaving an indent of 5-10 mm, stitch. Connect the right parts of the parts in the same way - we get a triangle. Important: turn the resulting owl blank inside out - do not forget if you have a one-sided pattern or the color of the inside does not match the front side.

fig.3 We sew two parts of the product

3. Baste and sew the top of the triangle. The length of the seam is 5-7 cm - approximately 1/3 of the length of its side. Thus, the yellow part is inside the red corner (Fig. 4), nested inside.

fig.4 We pin the corner - we fix the workpiece of the head and beak

4. We form the head. Fix with a pin, separate the stitched "corner" from the main part of the workpiece (Fig. 4). We will bend it in the next step.

fig.5 MK Do-it-yourself fabric owl - the final step - we complete the formation of the body and beak

  • Bend (throw) the corner of the workpiece down (or forward, towards you) - we have made the long-awaited owl's beak.
  • Tightly stuff the body with sewn synthetic winterizer (foam rubber) to the level of a pin. The body should turn out to be round-elongated, almost spherical.
  • Pick up and sew the bottom of the owl - the last step of our MK.
  • Sew the tip of the corner of part A to the yellow belly (blanks B) - see fig. 5. We select the threads according to the color of the product.
  • Cut out small 1.5-2x1.5-2 cm circles from a white dense fabric - for the eyes. Stick with a pencil or on silicate glue for matter. After waiting for drying, sew on large black beads or buttons - if there are blanks for toys, great.

On a note:

  • To understand the principle, you can cut out the details from paper and fold them, as suggested in the photo.
  • What fabric to take for sewing an owl - it can be linen, chintz. But maybe more dense, flock or velveteen - the main thing is that it does not stretch, it allows you to stuff the toy tightly. If the fabric has a double-sided pattern - great: you can not be afraid to confuse the front side and the wrong side.
  • Eyes are an important element: so that the fabric does not wrinkle, it is easier to stick it with textile glue using a glue stick.
  • Before ingenious, a simple solution can be used differently: increase the size of the pattern - you get an owl pillow in the same 20-30 minutes. And if you reduce it - you get a cute needle bed - experiment.

I repeat, to begin with, heed the advice: to see how easy it is to sew an owl, to understand the sequence of actions, you can cut out a pattern from paper and repeat the step-by-step MK described above. Believe me, this will make the job very, very easy. According to this principle, you can sew an owl toy, or you can, by increasing the size, and a pillow. You can crochet blanks according to this pattern and the same principle - but it will be a completely different story 🙂

Now the creation of various souvenirs and accessories for the interior is gaining more and more popularity. Try using ready-made patterns of owl pillows to make an original decoration for your sofa. This item would make a great gift for any occasion.

Materials and tools

To sew the same cute characters, you will need the following:

  • patterns of owl pillows;
  • paper and pencil or printer to print the finished template;
  • scissors;
  • safety pins;
  • fabric of any available shade or several colors;
  • needle and thread;
  • sewing machine;
  • synthetic winterizer or other filler;
  • eyes and other decor (optional).

As you can see, nothing complicated is needed. If you are into needlework, you probably already have everything you need.

How to sew an owl pillow

Any soft toys are made using a similar technology. If you have already done something similar, making this cute souvenir is not difficult. The sequence of work will be as follows.

  1. Build a pattern on paper. If you have a ready-made owl pattern in electronic form, just print it out and cut it out.
  2. Pin the appropriate parts to the fabric and make blanks in the right quantity.
  3. Fold paired elements or one main front side inward.
  4. Sew or pre-baste the seams, leaving an opening for filling.
  5. Turn the product right side out and fill with padding polyester.
  6. Sew up the hole
  7. Sew on additional elements (if any), decorate the product.

Using such a simple and understandable technology, you can make a thing of any complexity.

DIY pillow: pattern

At this stage of the work, you have two options:

  • use a ready-made template;
  • build the image yourself.

If you find your favorite scheme in electronic form, just print an image of suitable dimensions or redraw it from the monitor screen. You can change the scale of the entire workpiece or its individual parts at your discretion. As a first experiment, it is better to take an average size, within 30 cm. It is difficult to make a product that is too small, and a large one will take more time and patience.

If you only have a photograph of the finished item in front of your eyes, compare the image with the available diagrams. Modify the template to the desired look. In fact, building patterns on your own is not at all difficult, since all the details are usually symmetrical. In order to make the base of a bird-shaped pillow out of fabric, it is enough to have a half of the blank on paper, and then fold the material in half and pin the pattern along the fold line. By the way, by completing one blank, you can make many different variants of souvenirs by changing the color and material of individual elements.

If you are new to sewing and needlework, grab the most pillow owls. One of the easiest options is shown in the following illustration.

To get a similar product, use one of the blanks below. As you can see, the pillow consists of several parts: the body, eyes with pupils, beak, wings and legs. Additional elements are usually attached with a zigzag seam over the base, while the wings and legs can be done separately, only the work will become somewhat more complicated.

Please note that in the previous version, the body is built as one part with a closed contour, that is, it may well be asymmetrical. If the left and right halves are the same, use the second template when the half of the part is applied to the fold line of the material.

For the easiest way to make the product, use the previous blank, cut out all the parts one by one, the body in duplicate. Attach the elements on the front side of the front of the owl, and then do the work in accordance with the technology described above.

The second option (diagram above) will be more difficult, since you will have to sew on the paws separately. By the way, they, as well as the base, can be made voluminous, only you need not two, but four parts. The same goes for the wings.

The third pattern given in the section differs in proportions, as well as additional decor. Details that adorn the body can be stitched in tiers, then you will get an owl in a dress with frills. It will look especially beautiful if these elements are made of light material and stitched only along the top edge. The effect of the volume of "clothes" will be created.

flat pillows

The easiest way to sew an owl (pattern in the next photo) is to make a product of a simple shape, consisting of two parts without additional elements.

In fact, you will need to make one seam. Wings, legs and other parts can be cut out of fleece and sewn or even glued onto the base. If it is made from the same material, then the pillow can be sewn on the front side, since fleece does not require edge processing. If you are building a pattern yourself, try to avoid sharp corners and shape transitions. Make the outline smooth.

If this is not possible, for example, you want to show the carved shape of the wings, carefully make small cuts in the seam allowances in "dangerous" places before turning the product inside out. This will prevent the fabric from gathering and wrinkling after turning right side out.

Volumetric owls

An original and beautiful do-it-yourself pillow (a pattern can be made using the following photo) will turn out great if you put in more effort and time. Here you will actually sew a soft toy, only the size corresponding to the pillow.

In this case, it will be necessary to make many separate elements, and then combine them into a single whole. Such things look more spectacular and original and can perform not only the functional role of the pillow on which they lie, but also decorative or utilitarian, for example, be a place to store the TV remote control.

So, you were presented with various patterns of owl pillows and photos of finished products. Choose the ones you like. Create beautiful accessories for your interior.
