Pattern of a children's cape for the new year. Cape with a very simple cut (pattern)

Hello, friends!

How to sew a cape or Zorro Suit

Before the New Year's party, we had a need to sew a carnival costume for our son.

The legendary hero "Zorro" was chosen as a prototype.

I quote a few words about the hero: "... The legend of Zorro tells about the most fearless hero of all times and peoples, who helped the poor, protected the weak, always found himself in the place where his help was needed ..."

Of course, a boy at the age of 10 secretly or clearly dreams of being like such a hero ...

The costume was easy to make.

Using one of the principles of creating a carnival costume, which I talk about in the book, we made up the basis of the costume from black trousers and a shirt. You can replace the black shirt with a white one, my son wanted a black shirt.

We also needed a hat (you can make it yourself - by gluing the fields to the cylinder and painting everything black), we have a hat left from the previous holidays, we just glued the letter “Z” - the symbol of Zorro.

The belt and glasses were cut out of fabric.

The only difficulty in creating a Zorro costume and similar costumes, especially for beginners in sewing, is - cutting and sewing a cape.

Sometimes it can be very helpful.

Sewing New Year's costumes is a serious matter. It requires a lot of time and significant material costs.

For children, we, of course, do not regret anything and have already sewn them costumes for a matinee according to free patterns by Vera Olkhovskaya.

But here's how to sew an inexpensive New Year's costume for adults without a pattern in an hour? Here's the right question for New Year's Eve!

Now, attention! correct answer…

New Year's cap and cape description

This economical version of the New Year's costume came to us straight from the Catholic Christmas.

And, although the character of "a New Year's costume without a pattern in an hour" is not part of the Slavic cultural tradition, it fits perfectly into the scenario of our New Year holidays.

We are talking about the costume of Santa's helper - Elf. The costume consists of a cap and cape.

Open capes with a cap for the New Year

To sew an Elf costume that is suitable for both adults and children, you will need any red, green or blue fabric.

Suitable chintz, calico, linen, dense satin, velvet ... In a word, any stable or not very stretchy fabric.

The consumption of fabric for an adult will be 120 - 140 cm of fabric plus a white edge, which can easily be replaced with New Year's tinsel.

To cut, fold the fabric in half, facing inward, with the edges parallel to the edge of the cutting table. Please note: the fabric must be folded along the width of the layout (detail), which is equal to the sum

Product length = 50 to 55 cm

Notch radius = 8 or 9 cm

Cutting a cap and a cape (pelerine) is as easy as a sun skirt - they are identical in shape, only the notch is of a different size.

So, let's start cutting. From the sections of the fabric already laid out on the table, measure along its fold

Product length + recess radius

Put a dot "Center". In the figure, it is indicated by a green cross. From this point, draw halves of a circle with a radius that is equal to the sum

Product lengths + recess radius

On the larger half of the circle from the fold of the fabric, measure 28 - 29 cm and connect the resulting point with the "Center" point.

The details should be cut out in a certain sequence: first, along a large semicircle, then cut off the cap, and lastly, cut out a notch for the cape.

How to sew a cape and cap for the New Year in an Elf costume

Sewing an Elf costume is very simple and will take no more than an hour even for inexperienced home couturiers.

The cap is one seam (do not forget to iron it!) And stitching the edge.

A cape is a edging of the neck with an oblique trim and stitching of the edge.

I will say a little more about edging the neck.

Start edging with a line along the bias tape - you need to make a tie with a length of at least 30 cm from it. Then, without interruption, turn around the neckline and again switch to a tie from the bias tape.

To simplify the task, choose a wide zigzag stitch.

If you do not have such a device, you can turn around the neck without it. In this case, it is better to make a slanting inlay yourself.

As you can see, the time spent is minimal, and if you take the sewing of the Elf costume seriously, then you can make good money on it.

Make allowances for the connecting seams by 1.5 cm, for the hem of the bottom 4-5 cm, if the bottom of the poncho is not framed with fringe, fur or processed with an oblique trim.
The length of the poncho can be changed as you like, depending on your height and the intended model, it can be from the level of the hips to the knee, but these are average figures. You, knowing and remembering the uniqueness of each figure, choose your length.

We fold the fabric in half and draw a semicircle, by the way, it somehow reminds us of a skirt drawing - the sun, isn't it? We cut out the shape of the neck, the cut for the fastener and that's it - this cut is finished!

Next, there are “variations on a theme” ... You can model a poncho in such a way as to make a belt and stretch it through through cuts at waist level, process them with elements of suede or leather, or you can just leave it as it is (if you sew from thin fabric and do not think about the indispensable warmth of the product). The poncho option with a placket for fastening along the entire length of the front is also very beautiful.

Cape pattern. It is built on the basis of the base pattern

We close the shoulder tuck by transferring it to the waist tuck. Now, we combine the half of the sleeve (set-in shirt) with the base and outline everything with a common outline. We do the same with the back, at the same time we raise the pattern of the base of the back a little, combine it with the back half of the sleeve and outline it all together.

We cut out the details from the main fabric, process the cutouts for the hands, it can be in the form of welt pockets with a leaflet, connect the side seams, sew on the lower part of the collar and fold the bottom. We cut out the details of the lining and connect them in the same way with the upper part of the collar and the details of the selection and also fold the bottom. Now sew the lining to the main fabric. To do this, we apply them “face to face” and connect them, while not touching the bottom (in our case, the lining will not connect to the main fabric along the bottom of the product), turn it inside out, punch through the loops, sew on the buttons and the cape is ready!

Light tunic cape

We offer you a master class on sewing a cape with a hood, which can be both for an adult and for a child.

This lesson is useful for beginner craftswomen, since sewing such a cape even with a hood is quite simple.

So, you need to prepare everything you need. First of all, this is a fabric that can be from scraps of previous sewing. You will also need scissors, all sewing materials, tape measure, buttons, etc.

We begin the lesson, which will tell and show how to sew a cape with a hood, the pattern for which is quite simple. We lay out the fabric and cut out a rectangular piece, the dimensions of which depend on who the cape should be sewn on.

Don't forget to leave a seam allowance on the short edges. We bend these edges and sew with a line.

Now we should give shape to our raincoat, which has rounded edges along the bottom. To do this, fold the fabric in half and carefully trim the corners, rounding the edge as you wish.

Further, the opposite from the rounded edge must be slightly gathered. This part of the cloak will be located on the shoulders. To do this, stepping back from the edge of 5 mm, manually perform a bait seam along the entire upper edge.

Having fixed the thread, then we tuck the cloak a little along the same edge.

The assembly is best fixed with additional pins.

At this stage, you can do the hood, the blank for which was previously made. Remember the short edges we have already tucked up and stitched? This will be the front edge of the hood. The upper part should also be sewn by folding the hood in half with the right side inward. It is recommended to “cut off” the corner a little, stitching it diagonally as shown in the photo.

The lower edge of the hood should be sewn to the edge of the cape itself, which was slightly gathered.

In general, the cape with a hood is ready, it only remains to sew on a button that will fix the two sides together. To do this, a button should be sewn from one end of the cape, and a reciprocal hole should be made from the other.

Please note that in this case, fleece was used for the product, the material of the edges of which does not require additional processing, which is quite convenient for beginners. If you use a different fabric, be sure to pay attention to the edges and, if necessary, process them additionally.

Currently, hooded capes and poncho raincoats with sleeves have impressive popularity. Mostly this becomes visible in winter and autumn, when the temperature outside drops and it becomes cold. In such weather, a warm cape with a hood can save you, the pattern of which is very simple, so even a beginner needlewoman can create it for herself. And most importantly, such a thing will look great on any woman, regardless of age and body type.

Starting simple

To create a cape with a hood with your own hands you will need:

  1. Centimeter tape for taking measurements;
  2. Pen for notes;
  3. Pattern of the selected product with a photograph of the thing that will turn out;
  4. Special paper for patterns and tracing paper for transferring patterns in accordance with the desired dimensions;
  5. Chalk for transferring patterns to fabric;
  6. Textile;
  7. Needle and thread for preliminary basting;
  8. Sewing machine.

When everything that is required is at hand, you can begin work, which consists of several phases:

  1. Taking measurements;
  2. Transferring the pattern to paper, and then to fabric;
  3. Creation of separate parts;
  4. The last and most difficult phase is the connection of all parts into a whole product.

Sewing a cape yourself is simple, for this you need to be patient and be as careful as possible. And the result is an unusual, unique and fashionable wardrobe item.

Poncho with sleeves

The poncho consists of several parts, most of the main part consists of a front, back and neck. Both sleeves are sewn into this part. Stitch the details of the product should be as carefully and concentrated as possible, referring to the sample. And the last is the decoration of the resulting product with various elements, for example, tassels, pompoms or fringe.

You need to start making a poncho from the main part, namely the front and back. Then the sleeves are created and the neck is processed. And only after that the sleeves are sewn on. For the summer model, you can make a product without sleeves.

For the cold season, thicker and more waterproof fabrics should be used. You can treat the selected material with a special water-repellent impregnation. And for the warm season, the fabric should be light. We choose the length to taste, taking as a rule that the longer the product, the warmer it is. The presence and shape of the hood also depends only on desire.

On a note! If you want, you can make a detachable hood with a zipper.

To make a cape with a hood come out beautiful, as in the picture, you need to consider the following tips:

  1. One of the most important stages is cutting the fabric. On it you need to be very careful, clearly and accurately observe all dimensions. Since if you make a mistake, then there will be difficulties when stitching all the parts. Don't forget to indent a few inches for seam allowances.
  2. It is necessary to purchase material “with a margin” so as not to get into such a position that during the cutting of the fabric it will not be enough.
  3. To be comfortable, you need to make the hood loose. It will be most convenient if you make it adjustable. To do this, it is necessary to equip the hood with a drawstring and thread the lace.
  4. You can take a fabric of any color, plain or with a print. For a light version, a fabric with a pattern is better, and for a warm model, a plain fabric in dark colors is better. If there is a hood, then it can be decorated with fur.

The popularity of this thing is explained by the fact that it perfectly protects in windy and cold weather. And also because walking in a raincoat-poncho is very comfortable, it suits a girl with any type of figure.

Another sewing method

Let's analyze another way to sew a stylish new thing:

  1. We take the fabric, draw a circle on it with a radius that will be equal to the length of the future product. And the diameter of the second circle is drawn from the same point as the first, but with the addition of 5 cm for the neck. Cut out and cut in half the front side. To create a hood, cut out 2 squares with sides equal to 40 cm, and round off 2 corners on them.
  2. Now we can collect the cape. The hood can be created in 2 ways.

First method: fold the two parts with the front sides inward, stitch and process with a bias trim. Second method: fold back sides inward, stitch along the front side, turn inside out and sew a little wider to hide the previous seam and prevent the threads from spilling out.

  1. We sew the hood, apply it to the cape so that the length of the bottom is equal to the neck. We sew with an oblique trim, or in the same sequence as we assembled the hood. Now we process the edges with an oblique trim, or we tuck it twice and stitch it.
  2. We sew a fastener to the edges of the neckline so that it fits tightly on the shoulders, for example, laces, a button or a button.
  3. If in the end you want to get a cape with sleeves, then we do it a little differently. We fold the fabric 4 times, draw half of the kimono on it, cut out the corner (future neck), cut it out and cut the shelf in half. In this case, we process the sides in the same way as the hood.
  4. To make the cape more attractive, we decorate it. For example, you can round off the bottom of the cape and sew lace along the edge. And along the edge of the hood, you can add pearls, beads, rhinestones. If the cape is for cold weather, you can use fur.

New Year's option

If the New Year is coming, it's time for Christmas trees and costume parties, then you can sew a raincoat with a hood. Such a New Year's costume will look very unusual, and it is quite simple to make it. Below are a few ideas for such images:
