Sweet candy topiary: a delicious holiday bouquet. How to make topiary from candy

The tree of happiness has now become a fashionable interior accessory, and there are simply countless options for candy topiary, there are about the same number of them as there are candy types (Fig. 1). Originally known as a type of landscape design, topiary has evolved into a European version of Japanese bonsai. Only, unlike eastern traditions, it is customary to make eurowood from any available materials. Modern needlewomen make their masterpieces from so many things - from pasta and coffee, from braid and organza, from fruits and banknotes, from ready-made artificial flowers and napkin roses. Each tree of happiness has its own stylistic solution, target orientation, festive or everyday address.

The tree of happiness has now become a fashionable interior accessory, and there are simply countless options for candy topiary, there are about the same number of them as there are candy types.

And only candy topiary, made with your own hands and invented with all possible twists of imagination, can be useful in any case, on any date, as a gift for the most special event. The variety of candy shapes and packaging, the frivolous diversity of candy wrappers, and the shine of packaging foil will allow you to create any modification of the candy structure and achieve an enchanting effect.

Making candy topiary will require its creator to have a few simple things to work with. The following materials will be needed:

  • initial design element (candies and sweets);
  • decorative components (ribbons, beads, etc.);
  • tree pot;
  • material for stylized soil under topiary;
  • fastening agents (stapler, glue, pins, electrical tape);
  • tools (scissors, awl and others);
  • newspapers or polystyrene foam for a ball representing a crown.

It remains to mention the three most necessary things: the desire to please, the thirst for creativity and a vivid imagination. To make candy topiary a unique masterpiece, the originality of the product is especially valuable in the creative process. If there is no particular desire to be clever, you can use ready-made, already developed projects.

Convenient material at hand

The most famous type of candy tree of happiness is the lollipop topiary. In appearance, it is very reminiscent of a candy counter in a supermarket, but it is extremely simple to make and will be especially useful at a children’s birthday party. Chupa Chups is a material that is perfectly suitable for making topiaries from candies. After all, these lollipops are initially already on sticks, so there is no need to come up with a means of attaching them to the base ball. Topiary based on lollipops is a convenient and attractive means for the birthday boy or girl to distribute sweets to child guests at a festive celebration. And at the same time it is a bright interior detail and a wonderful gift.

The most famous type of candy tree of happiness is the lollipop topiary

To make it, you need a heavy pot (most often filled with plaster), in which a strong stick for a base ball made of crumpled newspapers or foam plastic is strengthened. The pot can be decorated in different ways:

  • decorate with a lush bow;
  • wrap in beautiful wrapping paper;
  • cover with paint;
  • make an inscription on the theme of the holiday;
  • drape with cloth;
  • cover with available decorative materials (shells, coffee beans, beads, beaded threads).

It’s easy to make topiary with your own hands; a master class on how to create it yourself will help you with this. By the way, it provides for the use of marmalade wrapped in transparent paper and marshmallows strung on skewers along with lollipops.

Marmalade in variants

Making topiary from marmalade is somewhat more difficult, because marmalade is usually sprinkled with sugar (Fig. 2). But if you buy colored figures and wrap each of them in transparent paper or film, then on a ball of foam plastic or crumpled newspapers, fastened with glue and wrapped in food foil, you can lay out bright flowers with red, yellow and green petals, and make the middle from chup - chups or other round-shaped candy. Topiary based on marmalade can be made without resorting to such difficulties, but use lemon and orange slices for a wave-like pattern around the ball.

You can make roses by lightly pressing and stretching the marmalades with clean hands, rolling them into spirals that imitate rose buds. Or you can attach marmalade flowers to a ball on thin wooden sticks - you will need more skewers to imitate a flower bouquet in a vase. The sticks must be strong and long enough to be securely attached to the ball. In this case, the space visible in the gaps between the components of the bouquet needs to be decorated. Before strengthening the flowers, you need to think about how to cover the bald spots. Recommended materials in this case include artificial moss, colored paper, coffee beans, and large beads that can be attached with glue.

Tree of happiness from Raffaello

An intricate topiary bouquet of candies for a wedding gift or marriage anniversary can be made from Raffaello (Fig. 3). The appearance and design of the Raffaello candy wrapper allows you to prepare such a bouquet for a gift on March 8th - in a beautiful mug or in the form of an elegant tree. To make a bouquet, you will need skewers of large diameter and length, which are stuck into a foam circle with a protruding top like a step. You can cut steps from the finished ball in several layers and then the bouquet will turn out to be voluminous.

You will also need a cardboard tube that fits onto skewers so that the bouquet has a smooth and comfortable handle. Each Raffaello candy can be wrapped in corrugated paper or gold foil, and the wire on which they are attached can be decorated with green corrugated or tissue paper to create a flower stem. If there is no time for such difficulties, then the candies are attached to a cascading circle wrapped in decorative paper so that there is almost no free space left. In such bouquets, it is appropriate to use decorative ribbons and bows, lace, crocheted strips of colored openwork, wrapping paper for flower bouquets with different patterns or crumpled pieces of colored foil.

If you find a shallow box, then its inside can be decorated with fabric attached in a special way to foam rubber. There you can place a composition of flowers in the form of a flower garland, adding a small gift - a mug, a box or a jewelry box. A beautiful cup can be used as an impromptu stand for a small bouquet of Raffaello flowers by placing foam in it and calculating the length of the handle so that the bouquet in the vase is stable. Raffaello candies can also be used in mixed bouquets; they are light in weight and do not complicate the installation of the plan.

Good taste and desire

Intricately and tastefully made candy topiaries are a short-lived interior decoration. Like any food product, candy has an unpleasant way of spoiling. Therefore, when creating such compositions, you should always remember that the tree will be eaten by the birthday boy or the heroes of the occasion and his guests. In such cases, you should not save on raw materials by purchasing a cheap source for candy topiary. You should buy delicious candies, guided by the preferences of those to whom the gift is addressed.

The question of how to make topiary from candy is not the most difficult of all the technologies used for making a tree of happiness. Candies, already intricately decorated by the manufacturer, become an excellent decorative material in the hands of a person who has the desire and opportunity to personally make a gift for someone who is dear to him. Here everything can serve beauty. The triangular tail of a chocolate candy wrapper can become one of the many petals of a flower collected from the same tails; a long frill of round coconut candy - a bud; foil wrappers - the basis of the color composition; marmalade and lollipops are an additional decoration.

Intricately and tastefully made candy topiaries are a short-lived interior decoration

There are two ways to attach sweets to the ball - with glue and with skewers or wires. When using the glue method, care should be taken to ensure that the candies can be easily removed from the tree and eaten, and in this sense, the second method is much preferable. The base remaining after eating sweets can be repeatedly used to create other compositions designed to suit the special occasion.

If you use cheap candies for topiary and leave it as a purely decorative decoration, its appearance will deteriorate over time, and it may even attract insects - flies, cockroaches, ants. Therefore, a candy tree can only be used as a wonderful and original gift for any special occasion that will be eaten in the near future.

How beautiful and amazing the candy topiary will turn out to be depends only on its creator and decorator. No master classes or advice can replace the living idea that came to the author at the moment when he decided to realize himself in making a gift.

Ideas should suggest the occasion on which the celebration is being held, the selected raw materials and its design, and the intention of the creative person embarking on the execution of the masterpiece.

This miracle tree made from Raffaello, marmalade, coffee beans, lollipops and other sweets will be a delicious present with which you will successfully decorate your holiday table.

Step-by-step instructions from our master class will help you make candies with your own hands.

History of the concept

As you already understand, we call topiary a decorated tree whose crown is made from confectionery and other items. Let's take a look at the history of this concept:

There is nothing complicated about making a tree from sweets. So, spending a minimum of effort and money, you will be able to bring your loved ones a lot of joy.

Preparing for work

The main elements of a candy tree are:

  • Bright crown.
  • Sturdy leg of appropriate diameter.
  • A pot, jar or tub with candy at the base.

The base needs to be heavy enough to support the weight of the topiary.

The composition must include the following:

  • A ball of papier-mâché or polystyrene foam as the basis for the crown.
  • A wooden stick, spoon or rod - leg.
  • A container that serves as a pot for a tree.

Additionally, the tree may have:

  • For the crown - a variety of sweets.
  • For the leg - sparkles, bows, rhinestones, shiny coating.
  • To fill the pot - pebbles, live moss, large beads, coins, candies.

There is an almost innumerable variety of options for making a bouquet of sweets. The photo clearly demonstrates how original and unusual the models are. Using them as a basis, you can come up with your own design.

Candy tree master class

Before starting the main work, prepare the glue that is needed to fix the elements of the product, polyurethane foam or plaster.

Algorithm of actions:

  • The base ball is pierced with a leg to the middle.
  • Glue is poured into the resulting hole.
  • A leg is installed in the ball and the glue is allowed to dry.
  • The pot is filled with plaster or foam.
  • The leg is firmly installed in the pot, allow time to dry.
  • The crown is decorated and the pot is decorated.

The way the crown is decorated determines whether the candies from the tree will be consumed in the future. If yes, they can be fixed with rhinestones, or glued with light glue, PVA, for example. If you do not plan to remove the candies and they will only serve as decoration, it is permissible to use stronger glue or plaster. In order for the bouquet to look beautiful, even when some of the sweets are removed from it, you need to make sure that the base ball has a pleasant color that is in harmony with the composition of the other parts of the product.

In order for the topiary base to last as long as possible, it should be made as strong as possible.

Topiary can be used many times, for example, to play the role of office decoration. The base (ball, leg, pot) may be the same, but the decoration changes from holiday to holiday.

Using marmalade or lollipops

Topiary is made simply from marmalade or lollipops:

  • Chupa chups are stuck in continuous rows into the ball base, and the pot is decorated.
  • The marmalade is secured onto long wooden skewers using transparent plastic film and stuck into the ball base.

For the safety of children, it is important that the pot is stable, as kids will pull sweets from the ball. Therefore, it is better to fix the tree trunk in a pot using plaster. The base ball can be purchased at an art store, although you can make one by tightly rolling up paper and gluing it with PVA glue.

The simplest options for decorating a pot:

New Year's sweet tree

In the pre-Christmas days, you can decorate your home interior with a homemade Christmas tree.

To create it you will need:

  • A sheet of thick paper or cardboard.
  • Candy (preferably in green wrapper).
  • Scissors.
  • Glue or double-sided tape.
  • Small contrasting decorative elements for candy wrappers (rain, tinsel, etc.).

A semicircle is cut out of cardboard, rolled into a cone, and secured with glue, a stapler or tape. The lower edge of the cone is cut with fringe and bent to the sides to stabilize the product. It is better to glue the candies in rows on double tape, and decorate the space between them with rain or tinsel. A small toy or star, ball, or snowflake is attached to the top of the Christmas tree. You can put a small gift under the tree. The master class provides information about the basic intricacies of making topiary, but you don’t have to follow all the recommendations with 100% accuracy, add something of your own and get an original product that no one else has!

Sweet tree - an unusual gift!

A sweet tree (candy tree) can be given not only as an additional gift, but also as an independent gift.

The occasion can be absolutely any: birthday or anniversary, wedding or wedding anniversary, christening, New Year, March 8, Valentine's Day or even February 23.

By choosing the appropriate color scheme and adding various accessories, both men and women will be pleased to receive such a tree.

For the sweet tree, prepare

* a ball for the base (foam plastic or a dry sphere, you can make a ball out of newspapers and tie it with thread, but this is the worst option). The diameter depends on the size of the tree you want to get. I take 12 cm in diameter.
* candies
* fabric or corrugated paper
* wire for the base of the barrel
* cord for wrapping the trunk
* a pot in which we will plant a tree
* plaster
* sisal
* scissors
* heat gun
* beads, ribbons

I did not use all the materials from the photo in the wood making process.

Let's start with the trunk. We take the wire, fold it in several layers to the thickness that we want to get the tree trunk. The length is greater than the height of the tree; we will need to form “roots” and make a bend in the trunk.

We fix the cord at a short distance from the edge of the wire and begin to wrap the barrel. Leave the wire empty for the roots.

Forming roots.

Place the ball on the trunk and look at the height of the tree. You can adjust the height by pushing the ball deeper onto the barrel.

Let's start forming the crown. I prefer working with fabric, so I cut squares from 3 types of material. They are called pounders. Used to fill the space between candies. During the process of making wood, I decided to replace the beige pounds with white ones.

There are several ways to attach candy. I'll just glue them on.

I glue pounds to the candy, forming a flower with a candy center. I glue it to the ball.

Gradually fill the entire surface of the ball with candies. I insert pounds into the gaps between the flowers.

We plant our tree. We spread the plaster, insert the tree, fill in the roots and let it harden.

After hardening, you can begin the most pleasant and very favorite part of me - decoration.
To hide the plaster, we glue sisal on top. The color suited me was red.

We glue beads and ribbon bows onto the pounds, and tie a bow of two ribbons on the trunk.

I also made spirals from tape and glued them on as well.

It turned out very bright, colorful and festive!

Topiary is a neatly trimmed bush or tree that can have either a round shape or the shape of various figures and animals.

A little history...

Topiaries first appeared in the gardens of the Roman Empire, where topiaries and trees were trimmed. And with the expansion of the Roman Empire, topiary quickly spread throughout Europe. It was during the Renaissance that gardeners perfected their skills in carving various shapes from green plants. This is how the most beautiful topiary in Versailles is presented in Europe.

Nowadays, topiary is very popular in Russia. And not only as a beautifully trimmed bush, but also as an aesthetically designed decorative tree. This kind of art has a slightly different definition.

Topiaries are small trees of happiness, for the production of which natural materials, pieces of fabric, natural and artificial flowers, satin ribbons, candies and coffee beans, coins, buttons and stones are used.

Candy trees can be made to suit any holiday theme! It's amazingly simple, fun and economical to do. At minimal cost you can make the maximum impression!

You can always come up with and make a special topiary for a specific occasion, using the attributes of the corresponding holiday - New Year, anniversary, wedding, birth of a child, March 8, February 23, etc. A self-made candy tree turns out to be three times cheaper than the same one purchased in a store, and at the same time, it often surpasses the purchased one in quality and originality of execution. It all depends on your imagination!

I bring to your attention a topiary that will be an excellent gift or decoration for any interior.

"Marshmallow Cloud"

In order to make a decorative tree you will need:

Chewing marshmallows "Marshmallow"

Foam ball base for the crown;

Wooden spoon or plastic tube;

Small flower pot;

Gypsum or plaster;

Sweet icing or chocolate;

Double sided tape;

Artificial moss;

Satin ribbons.

To begin, carefully insert the thin end of the spoon into the ball. Then wrap it in cling film.

Mix the gypsum mixture and pour it into the pot. When the mixture begins to thicken, insert the wide side of the spoon and hold for a few minutes. When the base is fixed, you can proceed to the next stage.

Prepare pink glaze or melt white chocolate in a double boiler.

Using a brush, apply the chocolate in small sections and adhere the marshmallows tightly.

Once you have covered the sides of the ball, place it in a cool place for 10 minutes to harden. This is so that the marshmallows don't fall off when you glue the top and bottom of the tree.

And so, we’re done with the sweet part of the tree. Now let's start designing the trunk. Wrap it with ribbon and secure it. And put artificial moss on the bottom.

Interesting: in order for it to attract money, you need to put coins in the pot and secure bills on the crown.

Finish with a satin ribbon bow and brooch.

Having made such a cute topiary, you can not only eat it, but also use it as decoration!

And the resulting tree can be presented to friends and relatives for absolutely any occasion. In addition, you can make the topiary functional: simply attach the candies to the base so that they can be removed, eaten, and then replaced with others. You can use toothpicks for this.
