We do highlighting at home. How to choose hair highlighting dye

Until recently, home highlighting of strands remained an almost impossible task. But with the advent of professional hair coloring kits on the modern market, the salon procedure quickly migrated to the bathrooms of ordinary girls. How to do highlighting at home and not go wrong? Our master class will help you with this!

Traditional highlighting at home

Traditional or classic highlighting means a procedure during which the master uses a special cap or foil. Let's look at each option in more detail.

Highlighting with foil

You will need:

  • Composition for bleaching strands (powder + oxidizing agent). For fine hair, the percentage of oxidizing agent in the powder should be 4%, for light hair – 6-8%, for dark hair – 12%;
  • Brush for applying paint;
  • Foil. This can be either a special foil for highlighting or a household option;
  • Two combs - with a narrow long handle and for separating strands;
  • Gloves;
  • Towel.

How the process works:

2. If you are using food foil, cut it into strips. They should be 23 cm longer than your hair. The edge of each piece should be turned inward by 0.5-1 cm. This bend will prevent the bleach from leaking onto the scalp and neighboring strands.

3. Prepare the coloring composition according to the instructions.

4. Divide all your hair into zones. Pin each one with a hairpin.

5. Using a long comb, separate a not very thick strand from your hair.

6. Place a piece of foil under it. The pocket should be at the base of the hair.

7. Lubricate the strand with the dye mixture.

8. Fold the foil in half or cover your hair with a new piece.

9. Step back about 2 cm up and paint the next strand of hair.

10. Follow this procedure all over your head.

11. Wait about 30 minutes, unwrap each strand and rinse with water without removing the foil.

12. Remove the foil. Wash your hair with shampoo and nourishing balm.

13. Let your hair dry naturally.

Highlighting with a cap

Home highlighting through a cap is incredibly popular among women with short haircuts (up to 15 cm). Of course, you will hardly be able to find an easier way of coloring!

You will need:

  • Gloves;
  • Brush for applying paint;
  • A special hat with small holes. You can also use a swimming cap or a regular plastic bag with holes cut in a checkerboard pattern;
  • Comb with a narrow long handle;
  • Paint container (glass or plastic);
  • Towel.

How the process works:

1. Throw a towel over your shoulders.

2. Place the cap on your head and use the tip of a comb to pull small strands of hair through the holes. For light highlighting, you can use every third hole, for medium - every second, for intensive - absolutely everything.

3. Prepare the coloring mixture according to the instructions.

4. Apply it to your hair with a brush.

5. For light lightening (by 1 tone), the mixture is kept for only 15 minutes, for strong lightening - at least 45 minutes.

6. Rinse your hair with water. There is no need to take off your cap.

7. Dry your head with a towel, remove the cap and wash your hair with shampoo and a nourishing mask.

  • Paint container (glass or plastic);
  • Towel.

Now you know how to make beautiful highlights at home, and you can experiment with your hair to your heart’s content. Good luck to you!

Highlighting is a simple procedure and can be done at home without difficulty. There are several ways to contrast the color of strands. By choosing the most convenient one for yourself, you can significantly change your image in less than an hour.

Highlighting is suitable for any woman, and therefore has been popular among fashionistas for many decades.

Hairdressers and stylists only “stir up” interest in this type of coloring: they come up with new types of it, and at the same time take care of the health of their clients’ curls. You can update your look with highlighting at home.

Home highlighting - initial stages

What is hair highlighting?

Highlighting is a method of bleaching individual strands using special means.

Advantages of this technique

With the help of this coloring, you can visually increase the volume of hair, its expressiveness, shine and radiance, as well as “mask” emerging gray hair, especially if it appears early in a woman.

This is also a good way to experiment with your style and image, without using any radical methods to color your strands. Slightly lightened curls will help emphasize the interesting shape of a geometric haircut and focus attention on a short hairstyle. This coloring is very economical - maintenance procedures need to be done once every two and a half to three months.

Another advantage is versatility. This coloring will look beautiful on both curls, dark strands and light ones. In addition, there are many gentle ways to highlight.

Preparing for highlighting

What do you need for highlighting at home?

To successfully carry out home highlighting, a woman will need:

  • a sterile pair of gloves;
  • a special bleaching composition (for those with dark hair it is good to use a twelve percent oxidizer, for light hair - six to eight, for thin strands a three to four percent oxidizer is suitable) or hair dye;
  • small brush or paintbrush (plastic or wooden);
  • glass or plastic bowl for paint;
  • cut pieces of foil (they should be at least ten centimeters wide, and twice the length of the curls), or a special cap for highlighting;
  • two combs - with a thin and narrow handle and the most ordinary one;
  • an old towel (you will need to cover your shoulders to avoid getting paint on it).

Today in specialized stores you can already buy entire kits with everything you need to carry out the procedure at home.

It will be very good if one more person helps. He will be able to process strands that are difficult for a woman to see and difficult for her to reach. If there is no assistant, you need to position yourself between two large mirrors in order to fully see all the strands on your head.

Types of highlighting strands

Highlighting strands using foil

Highlighting with foil at home is an old, proven way to do coloring. The technology is simple: using foil, you need to separate a small strand (its thickness can be chosen as desired) and place it on the foil with paint applied.

Foil is an easy way to treat any curls that need to be bleached.

After this, the strip is carefully folded in half with the side sections folded in. The foil needs to be firmly fixed on the head - you can use clips for this.

Highlighting strands using a special cap

Another option for highlighting at home is to use a silicone cap specially designed for this purpose. It is all covered with small holes in a checkerboard pattern. But even an ordinary swimming cap can be used for dyeing - you just need to make small holes in it in an even order.

Using a cap, you can bleach short strands and medium-length curls.

California highlights create the effect of bleached hair and can be easily done at home.

First, you need to put a cap on your head and, using a comb with a narrow handle, pull the dyed strands out through the holes in the “headdress.” A bleaching compound is applied to them. Depending on the desired degree of intensity and the general condition of the curls, you need to keep the dye on the curls from ten minutes to half an hour.

After this, the composition is washed off and the cap can be removed. Hair must be washed after the shampoo procedure.

California highlighting on dark hair

To get this effect, a woman should wash her hair. The shampoo should be soft. The use of balms, masks or conditioners is prohibited - this can be done after dyeing. The curls must dry (without using a hair dryer - otherwise this will lead to the strands becoming very fluffy, becoming porous, and if bleached, there is a risk of burning them). Next you need to mix the paint and you can apply it.

You need to start at the top and work your way down. The paint is applied to the strand, wrapped in foil - they do not need to be “clamped” tightly. The curl simply crumples in the foil. You need to keep it on for 15-40 minutes - it depends on the natural hair color and the desired effect. For example, if you lighten black curls, you will have to keep them in foil for a long time, perhaps even repeat the procedure.

After removing the foil you should wash your hair. You need to apply conditioner or a cream mask to highlighted curls.

Let your hair dry naturally - do not use a hair dryer. If the woman is not satisfied with the resulting effect, she can repeat the session, but not earlier than two weeks later, otherwise it can seriously damage her hair.

According to experts, it is prohibited to lighten your natural tone by more than three shades, since the procedure can seriously disrupt the hair structure.

If a woman has short hair, then instead of a hat, you can use ordinary hairpins for the procedure.

The folk method is highlighting “in a circle”

You need to cut a circle out of any material, make a large hole in its center - strands are pulled through it. They are evenly distributed throughout the circle, after which the woman can apply a special composition to them and cover them with foil.

Upon completion of the procedure, you should thoroughly wash your hair with a mild shampoo and rinse the strands with a herbal decoction (for example, calendula, nettle, yarrow or ivy).

Work sequence

You need to start processing the strands from the back of the head, moving to the crown, and then go down smoothly - process the sides and the front.

The basic principle of the sequence of movements during the procedure is from top to bottom.

All cosmetologists are inclined to believe that bleaching is best done on stale, dirty hair.

Stylists and colorists discourage women from radically changing their hair shade without taking into account their color type.

Hair care after the procedure

It should be remembered that as the strands grow, you will need to tint the roots from time to time in order for the hairstyle to look neat.

After the procedure, you should carefully care for your strands, pampering them with a variety of products for colored hair (for example, serums).

Be sure to make a nourishing mask every week. It is generally not recommended to visit the pool. It contains chlorinated water, which negatively affects curls - even a special swimming cap will not save you from this. The only way to avoid damaging your strands is to rinse them with cold water before going to the pool.

Home hair highlighting is an excellent alternative to a salon procedure. It’s easy to conduct a session yourself. In addition, this is a more interesting option than full coloring. Several individual curls are bleached, which will add playfulness and originality to the hairstyle.

How to do fashionable hair highlights at home: video

Hair highlighting is currently considered a very popular procedure, but it must be done correctly, since many amateurs make mistakes, we have prepared videos that explain the technique in detail.

There are several options for how to do highlighting at home, let’s talk about that

Since the 90s, highlighting has remained the most current method of hair coloring. But many women still wonder how to do highlighting at home. After all, it suits women of all ages, allows you to change your image without resorting to radical measures, and does not spoil your hair. Both schoolgirls experimenting with their image and elderly elegant ladies who want to add zest to their image can dye individual strands of hair. The main advantage of highlighting is that it can be very diverse - with the effect of naturally burnt hair or with sharp color transitions coming from the roots or using the ombre technique with a smooth color transition from the middle of the length to the ends of the hair. Highlighting remains the “ruler of thoughts” of thousands of women who decide to dye their hair. Our material today will tell you all the secrets of fashionable coloring.

Beauty with your own hands

Beauty experts from the American magazine Allure, hairdressers and colorists gave general recommendations on how to successfully perform highlighting.

The final result will largely depend on the paint, says colorist Rita Khazan, so you should opt for comprehensive kits. Each includes paint, 3 or 6% developer, split bristle brush and conditioner. Several companies produce high-quality kits:

  • L'Oreal (Touch-On),
  • Garnier (Nutrisse Nourishing Color Foam),
  • Revlon (Frost & Glow),
  • Clairol (Frost & Tip).

Cases of allergic reactions to paint are notorious. Colorist Kyle White recommends testing the paint on the elbow the day before the main coloring.

Don’t forget about the auxiliary products: before dyeing, in addition to paint, the dressing table should contain a rich cream and cotton pads for cleaning the skin from stains, hairpins for fixing strands and a brush for dyeing.

White's other tip is to separate your hair into 12 sections for easy processing. Using the tip of the brush, paint is applied to the selected strands.

  • Cotton pads can be used to protect undyed hair from dye by placing them under dyed hair.
  • At the final stage of the procedure, the hair is washed generously with running water, after which conditioner is applied. It will help cover hair scales and make hair smoother.

How to make a highlighting cap

For uniform coloring, it is recommended to use special caps. But, since many models are expensive, it is easier to make a hand-made option. To do this, you need to buy a regular shower cap with an elastic band at a hardware store and use scissors, an awl or other sharp tool to make small holes through which you can thread the strands. Small strands of hair can be threaded through using non-sharp tweezers. A rubber swimming cap is ideal for creating a working tool for highlighting. Both natural and synthetic rubber are very dense materials, so it will be possible to make an unlimited number of holes for threading strands.

Advice! An even more budget-friendly option for a dyeing cap can be made from a thick plastic bag. To do this, the bag is tied like a cap around the head, the places where you need to make holes are marked with a marker, and they are made using scissors.

Hairdressers and colorists have a different opinion about handmade caps for highlighting, believing that professional silicone caps are better suited for coloring strands and creating highlights.

How to do California highlighting?

California highlighting helps create the effect of naturally bleached hair. It involves dyeing your hair with several shades of the same color. The paint is applied in wide horizontal strokes and stripes, with a dark shade applied at the roots and the lightest shade at the ends. The most effective highlighting can be achieved using a large number of shades.

To dye, you will need several hair dyes, a toothbrush or mini-sponge, a timer, cotton pads and a rich cream to protect the skin from stains, and disposable containers for dyes.

  1. A cape is put on the shoulders.
  2. The paint and oxidizing agent are mixed.
  3. The hair is separated by horizontal partings (the optimal number is 12), the strands should be 1–1.5 cm wide.
  4. Dark paint is applied from the root area (it is better to retreat 2-3 cm) to the outer side of the strands, brush movements are made arbitrarily and naturally.
  5. The remaining length is covered with lighter shades of paint, making vertical strokes. After the hair is completely dyed, the time is noted (30–40 minutes).To make the color transitions smooth, you can backcomb it using a flat brush with wide teeth.
  6. The lightened ends are tinted with a tint balm of the selected color.
  7. After the time is up, you need to rinse your hair under running water and complete the procedure by applying a caring balm.

Voila! Now your hair looks like you were relaxing on one of the beaches in Los Angeles.

Venetian highlighting

This type of highlighting looks especially impressive on brown-haired women and brunettes, since it involves contrasting coloring of the strands, some of which are maximally lightened. Such sharp transitions allow you to add volume to your hair and create an interesting play of light. How to do Venetian highlighting at home?

  1. At the beginning of the procedure, you need to use a mild shampoo, since the procedure is carried out only on clean hair.
  2. The hair is divided into large strands (up to 5 cm) and combed using a flat comb with large teeth. By fluffing your hair, you can achieve a more natural transition between natural color and dyed strands.
  3. Paint is thickly applied to the selected strands using a small brush. You should retreat at least 10 cm from the roots. After all the strands are dyed, the time is noted (the best option is 10 minutes).
  4. After the time has passed, you need to apply conditioner to the entire length and comb your hair, then rinse with running water until completely clean. In no case is it the other way around: combed hair must first be softened and then washed, otherwise it can be damaged.
  5. Now you can dry your hair with a hairdryer or naturally.

Advice! After dyeing, it is better to apply a leave-in moisturizing serum to your curls, for example, Kapous Dual Renascence 2 Phase or TIGI S-Factor Silky Smooth Moisture Serum, which will restore the structure of each hair after dyeing.

What is root highlighting and how to do it?

Classic highlighting involves a distance of 3 to 20–30 cm from the roots, but the modern method of root coloring expands the boundaries of possibilities. This method of highlighting visually makes the styling more voluminous, does not spoil the hair and allows for more daring experiments with shades than when hair is dyed from the middle length.

For the procedure you will need paint, foil, a brush and a comb with large teeth. Instead of hairdressing foil, its household equivalent is ideal.

  1. Several large strands are selected, twisted into a rope and secured with a hairpin or clip at the roots. You should start from the back of the head, moving radially downward. The parting stands out.
  2. The hair in the back of the head is combed, thin strands are separated from it, dyed and placed on a sheet of foil 10–15 cm wide. The strip of material should be held horizontally, while new colored strands are released. The left and right edges are gradually rolled up.
  3. Bleached areas of hair are treated with caring preparations: Estel HEC hair ampoules are suitable for this.
  4. In the parting area you need to highlight several thin strands.
  5. The dyeing time is 15-40 minutes, depending on the desired result. If your hair has been previously dyed, you should reduce the time to half an hour.

You can check how intensely the strands have colored by opening the foil. If you are satisfied with the result, you can carefully remove it and wash off the paint.

All about highlighting with a comb

One of the effective ways to update your hair color and make your look more vibrant is to highlight it with a comb. For this coloring, you can use either a regular flat comb with wide or fine teeth, or specialized varieties for highlighting. Types of combs for highlighting:

  • Comb with small hooks - allows you to effectively separate your hair and highlight the thinnest strands;
  • Hairdressing comb for highlighting strands. Fine teeth help distribute paint evenly;
  • Fence comb. Frequent teeth with curved ends allow you to effectively carry out the highlighting procedure at home;

  • Striper. A comb ideal for both fine and wide hair.
  • Spatula comb. It is a trapezoidal plate with small tonic teeth at the end. With its help, you can hold selected strands and paint with a brush.

The hair is combed with a regular comb, then using one of the above, individual strands are selected, onto which paint is applied with a brush. Dyed hair is placed in foil or, if a cap is used, carefully placed on top of it. For open coloring (for example, Californian), it is recommended to use a stripper, which allows you to evenly color both thin and wide strands of hair and give them a luxurious gradient effect.

Choosing the right paint

High-quality paint is 90% success, so you need to take a responsible approach to choosing a coloring agent. As a clarifier, you can use either a powder or a gel or cream version. The powder allows for more intense lightening without damaging the hair. By choosing a 3 or 6% oxidizing agent, it will be possible to do a gentle coloring. You can choose any hair dye - both regular and professional, but it is better to give preference to the second: it will give the promised color, while mass-market samples purchased in regular stores often give a completely different shade on the hair or less bright.

  • Estel Color Cream - shades from 8.0 to 12.1 are optimal for creating light strands.
  • Igora Royal Fashion - paint from Schwarzkopf pleases with a palette of noble ashen shades (you should choose products with additional marking 1).
  • Matrix Color Sync is a gentle ammonia-free composition that has a pleasant smell and allows you to create a soft highlighting option.
  • Cutrin RSS is a leader among professional hair products. Dyeing with this dye allows you to achieve bright shades without harming your hair.
  • Periche is a new Spanish brand on the Russian market. The hair dye of the same name contains jojoba oil and collagen for more gentle coloring.

  • Henlic Color Cream - a dye based on natural Indian henna extract gives hair strands warm shades of honey and caramel.

Don’t be afraid to experiment: a new image always brings the pleasure of novelty and a sea of emotions.

What is needed for highlighting?

For the highlighting procedure you'll need:

  • foil;
  • comb with a tail;
  • a bowl for mixing the brightening composition;
  • blondoran;
  • oxidizer;
  • shampoo;
  • hair conditioner;
  • brush;
  • peignoir;
  • hair clips.

The highlighting procedure includes gradual lightening certain strands.

For comfort highlighting should begin from the lower occipital area. The brightening composition can be applied to both foil and strands.

It is very difficult to apply the product to all your hair. within 30-50 minutes, especially if they are long.

In this case, the brightening composition is first applied to the parietal zone, carefully washed off after the required time, and then the remaining strands are lightened.

Precautions when performing the procedure at home

Highlighting requires certain knowledge and experience. Not worth it experiment, if you don't have enough knowledge. When highlighting, constant visual control is required.

  • Prepare the foil in advance. Cutting foil may be a fun activity, but it requires a lot of time. After clarification, the foil can be washed and use repeatedly.
  • Do not mix the entire composition at once. The bleaching composition reacts with oxygen. The most effective composition in the first 10 minutes after mixing.
  • Swipe reaction test. In some cases, highlighting can lead to disastrous results. To prevent this from happening, apply a lightening composition to the skin in the area of the elbow in advance.
  • For thin and damaged hair stop highlighting. If your hair is thin and damaged, strengthen it and stop using lightening products.

Popular types of highlighting

There are several types of highlighting:

  • classic;
  • Californian;
  • zonal;
  • shatush;
  • ombre;
  • French;
  • mazhimezh;
  • American.

Let's consider the process of carrying out the most popular types of highlighting with foil, with a cap, Californian and shatush.

Highlighting with foil

Cutting foil
. The length of the foil should be 20 cm longer than the strands that will be lightened, the width should be about 7 cm.

After the foil is cut, we make a pocket on each strip the size 1 centimeter. To do this, simply bend one end of the foil. This is necessary so that the lightening composition does not flow onto the rest of the hair.

Apply brightening compound to foil. In the classic highlighting method, the composition is applied to foil.

But in some cases, the foil is first secured under a strand of hair and the product is applied to the hair. If you apply the brightening compound directly to the foil, you can save time.

Place foil under hair. Carefully place the foil under each strand, bending the edge that is located at the base. It is convenient to highlight the strands with the tail of a comb. Then we bend the foil from the sides and fold it in half to create a pocket with a strand of hair.

The location of the strands depends on the preferences of the client and the skills of the master. Highlighting needs to start from the lower occipital area.

For very thick hair– first we do highlighting on the back of the head, dry the hair and move on to lightening the hair on the frontal areas. You need to rinse off the composition separately from each strand, being careful not to get it on other hair.

Highlighting with a cap

Let's begin the procedure:

  • combing hair;
  • We put on a special hat;
  • we thread the strands through the holes using a hook;
  • comb the strands that will lighten;
  • apply brightening composition first to the parietal zone, and then the rest;
  • keep the lightening agent on for 30 minutes;
  • without taking off the cap, rinse the bleached strands;
  • take off the cap, wash your hair and apply conditioner;
  • We enjoy the result.

Advice! When highlighting, it is not necessary to stretch a strand into each hole on the cap. To give a more sophisticated look to your hair, we pull a strand into one of the three holes.

For more intensive results- skip one hole. To do classic highlighting, we pull strands into each hole.

California highlighting

This type of highlighting appeared not so long ago. He requires special neatness and knowledge of hair coloring techniques.

It is difficult to carry out high-quality California highlighting at home, and if you are not confident in your abilities, it is best to contact the master.

How to do hair highlights at home

Highlighting is one of the hair coloring methods in which only individual strands are lightened. Its many options allow you to achieve a wide variety of looks: from romantic and gentle to bright and extravagant.

In addition, it visually improves the appearance of hair - it looks thicker, more voluminous, acquires a beautiful shine and a unique play of color when exposed to light or sunlight.

It will not be easy for a beginner to cope with such coloring the first time, because it requires a certain skill. But it happens that such services are unaffordable or there is simply no trust in strangers. In this case, you can do hair highlighting yourself at home. The main thing is to pay close attention to the procedure so as not to spoil the curls.

Preparing for highlighting

There are many different types of hair highlights. But if you do not have experience in coloring, do not try to use complex techniques using several colors at once. Choose one tone to highlight your strands, and once you get the hang of it, you can experiment with multiple colors.

If possible, ask someone to help. But you can do without assistants if you install two large mirrors, one opposite the other. This will give you a clear view of the back of your head.

What you will need

Main inventory:

  • cape or peignoir;
  • clips (hairpins, crabs);
  • the comb is not metal;
  • container for diluting dye (not metal);
  • brush;
  • gloves.

You will also need bleaches and/or paints, depending on what kind of highlighting you will do:

For lightening:

  • supra (lightening powder/paste) or paint (highlighting agent);
  • oxide for supra or dye, the same company (for light and/or damaged and/or dry hair - 3% - 6% oxide; for medium - 6% - 9%; for dark - 9%; in extremely rare cases, when hair is very dark and thick - 12%).

For toning:

  • paint of the desired shade (or tinted shampoo, tonic);
  • paint oxide (usually sold with paint).

To rinse off:

  • shampoo for colored hair;

For protection and care:

  • balm or conditioner.

Additionally you will need:

  • foil or parchment paper (when painting using foil and “circular” highlighting);
  • rubber bands (for highlighting using rubber bands);
  • a cap with holes, a comb with a point or a hook (for highlighting through a cap).

You can make your own cap from cellophane or a rubber shower cap. Just don't make any holes that are too big for the bleaching compound to get under. For the same reason, the composition should not be too liquid.

The process of highlighting hair at home

Using foil

This is an ideal option for those with long hair, it is simple and convenient.

Preparation

If you use regular food foil for highlighting, you should first prepare strips of the required length. Their width should be approximately 10 cm, and the length may vary depending on the length of the hair.

Usually it is equal to the length of the hair plus 2-3 cm for a fold-pocket (so that the lightener does not get on the scalp and lower strands). But sometimes strips twice as long as the hair are used when it is not planned to dye the entire strand (for example, only the ends).

  • Special foil for highlighting hair is already sold in the form of strips measuring 10x30 cm. There are 50 or 100 pieces in a package. There are also special paper strips on sale.
  • Professional foil is produced in rolls 12 cm wide and 25 m to 250 m long.

For your first home experiments, it is better to use ready-made kits. Prepare the paint, highlighter or brightening solution according to the instructions in the package insert.

Execution technique

  • First of all, you need to part your hair and divide it into sections (usually into 7-8 parts - 2 on each side and 3-4 along the central part of the head). Each large strand should be secured with a clip.
  • You should start coloring the strands from the lower back of the head, gradually moving upward, or from the crown, moving downward. After the central zone is highlighted, it is necessary to process both sides in a similar way.
  • Using the tip of a comb, a strand of the required width is separated from the hair. From it, using the “darning” method, several thin strands of the same width are separated, which are placed on the foil.
  • A bleaching emulsion or paint is applied with a brush (sometimes an additional emulsion is applied, in addition to the hair, to the foil itself). If the hair is highlighted from the very roots, you need to step back 1 cm so that the composition does not spread and unplanned spots in the root zone do not occur.
  • Then the foil is wrapped (sometimes two strips are used for each strand - this is convenient when the strands are thick). To fix the foil, you need to bend it on both sides towards the center. Sometimes fixation is also done using invisible clips or special clips.
  • Depending on the required shade, the bleaching mixture is kept on the head from 10-15 minutes for light hair to 45-50 for dark hair.
  • The foil is carefully removed and the paint is washed off. After the procedure, you need to apply a healing balm or mask to your hair. If desired, you can correct the color with a tinted shampoo or tonic, but this is done before applying the balm/mask.

Nuances:

  • Before washing off the bleach, be sure to check the last dyed strand to see if the desired color has already been achieved. If the color is not yet the same, the exposure time should be increased.
  • If some strands are poorly lightened, while others are already white, then you can speed up their lightening to achieve a uniform color. It is enough to direct the hot air of a hairdryer onto these strands.
  • If the hair is very thick or too porous, and highlighting is performed on the entire head of hair, it is advisable to carry it out in two stages: highlight the back of the head, rinse and dry, and then highlight the front.

Highlighting hair in a circle- a very interesting and original version of the procedure. First, cut out a circle from foil or parchment paper. A hole is made in its center through which the hair is pulled. The strands are distributed around the circumference, paint is applied to them, and after a while it is washed off.

Through the cap

Suitable only for girls with short hair (no more than 15 cm).

The cap is very convenient to use when highlighting at home, since it does not slide off the head, unlike the same foil. In addition, the strands are of the same thickness, even, and you can vary their frequency. The only thing is that you need to get the hang of pulling the hair through the holes.

Execution technique

The cap is placed on the head, and small strands of hair are pulled through the holes. A hook or the tip of a comb can help with this. For a light effect, the hair is threaded through several holes, for a medium effect - through one, and for an intense result through all that are available.

The paint is diluted according to the instructions on the package. It is applied to the hair using a special flat brush. If you keep the composition for 15 minutes, they will lighten by only one tone, if 45 minutes - by 4-5 tones. The dye is washed off from the hair directly with the cap on the head, after which it is removed. It is recommended to use a restorative balm after this. In order to make the transition between shades smoother, you can rinse your hair with a tint tonic or shampoo.

Using rubber bands

This method is suitable for medium length hair.

This hair highlighting technique will create a fashionable effect of regrown roots. At the base of the hair the strands will be slightly darker than at the ends. This coloring allows you to play with colors and experiment with the concentration of shades.

Before carrying out the procedure, you should stock up on rubber bands. By parting, the hair is divided into zones. Small tails are attached to each of them. To get fashionable “feathers”, you should apply paint to their tips. The bleach is kept on the head according to the time indicated on the package.

"Pigtail"

This is ideal for curly or wavy hair.

This method of home highlighting is suitable for lightening hair by 1-3 tones when you need to create highlights or a burnt effect.

Divide your hair into the desired number of sections and braid it. Apply bleach to the top of each braid along its entire length. After holding the bleach for the required time, rinse it off, undo the braids and thoroughly rinse your hair with shampoo and apply hair conditioner for 4-5 minutes.

Using a comb

Although this option is comparatively simple, the same cannot be said about its effectiveness. The effect can be very unpredictable, so you should not, without experience, immediately lighten your hair in this way by more than 1-2 tones.

It is necessary to bleach unwashed, dry hair; first comb it thoroughly. The lightening emulsion is applied to a comb with sparse teeth, and then it is passed through the strands that need to be dyed. It is best to do this from the roots to the ends in one movement, without removing it from the hair.

The paint exposure time may vary depending on the desired result. After highlighting, the hair is thoroughly washed with shampoo and then conditioner to minimize damage. The disadvantages include that in the absence of skill, the result can be disastrous: the strands will be colored unevenly, in pieces.

  • There are ready-made kits for “comb” coloring, for example, PRÉFÉRENCE paint from L"ORÉAL PARIS GLAM LIGHTS.
  • For the inexperienced and those who are not ready to radically change their image, there is a great opportunity to practice highlighting with a comb: Stylist Summer 1 Night Highlights cream mousse from ALTERNA. The comb attachment allows you to do the procedure even without any skills. The paint dries instantly and leaves no stains. The only negative is that such highlighting will only last until the next wash. But this is also a plus - if you don’t like it, you can just wash your hair.

Hand highlighting

With this technique, the coloring composition is applied to washed and slightly moistened hair. This is done by hand, although painting brushes and even art brushes are also used. This allows you to achieve several effects: frosting or glazing.

First option suitable for girls with curly hair. Lightened strands will emphasize incredible volume and add a “sparkle” to the whole look. When applying paint, you need to tilt your head down, the emulsion is evenly distributed with your fingers through wet hair. The composition is kept on the head for the required time.

"Glazing" used on short hair, the length of which does not exceed 15 cm. Before the procedure, fixing mousse or foam is applied to it, and then dye. This is all done by hand. The process is repeated up to four times, before each of them you need to wait some time.
