This is a great way to give new life to old things that would otherwise go to the trash. And if you don't have your own old jeans, you can get them cheap at a secondhand store.
Follow the instructions and you will have a great backpack that will accompany you on any journey.

Tools

For work you will need:
  • Scissors.
  • Marker.
  • Pins.
  • Contrasting threads.
  • Matches or lighter.
  • Ruler.
  • Cutting board.
  • Ripper.
  • A zipper foot for a sewing machine (if you don't have one, you can use a regular one).
  • Sewing machine.
  • Scissors for metal (not necessary, but may come in handy).
  • Iron.
Take advantage of the following tricks:
  • Iron your backpack periodically. Then at the end of the work it will look much better.
  • To find the middle of the fabric, fold the piece in half. Mark the middle with pins.
  • The size of the details in the instructions are given for a small backpack for every day. If you want a bigger bag, adjust the dimensions.
  • Use a special seam ripper if you need to open a seam.

Pick up materials

1. Fabric - approximately one square meter. Any heavy fabric will do: denim, corduroy, tarpaulin, etc. You can use old denim skirts. If you're using ripped jeans, you'll probably need to sew a few pieces to get the right size.
2. Two plastic length adjusters for belts and webbing of 28 cm of appropriate width.
3. A small square of fabric in a contrasting color to make a pocket on the front of the backpack (you can use leather from an old leather item)
4. Zipper length 42 cm.
5. Two straps of 47.5 cm.

Cut out the front and back pieces

Cut out two identical rectangles 37.5 by 25 cm. Place them on top of each other and fold in half lengthwise. Using scissors, make the corners slightly rounded, the bottom slightly smaller than the top. Then the shape of the details will be more like a backpack.

Sew on the front pocket

Cut out a 17cm x 17cm square from the contrasting fabric. You can experiment with color and texture, the main thing is that the fabric is durable.
Fold the top edge of the square over twice and sew with a straight stitch to secure. You can make another seam along the top line with a contrasting thread for beauty.
To create a pocket-shaped piece of fabric, fold the square in half vertically and cut the piece of fabric at a slight angle from the fold to the edge.
Fold over all but the top edges by about 0.5 cm and pin in the center of the front of the backpack.
Sew the pocket along the edges with two rows of stitches with contrasting thread.

Cut and sew side pieces

Cut three strips of denim 42cm x 9cm.
Fold the two strips right side to wrong side and sew together along the short side.
Straighten the sewn strips of fabric and stitch the seam allowance to the fabric so that it does not fray inside.

Insert the zipper

Take the third strip, fold it in half lengthwise to determine the middle, and cut along the fold line.
Attach the zipper foot to the sewing machine. Or set the needle sideways so it doesn't hit the zipper itself when you start sewing! (It is not necessary to have a special zipper foot, you can complete this step without it).
Pin one half of the denim strip right side down to the right side of the zipper and sew as close to the zipper teeth as possible.
Sew the second strip to the other side of the zipper, but not the front, but the wrong side down so that the two halves contrast with each other.
Fold back the fabric over the teeth on either side of the zipper and sew to the back.

Sew the sides

Fold the zipper stripe and double stripe right sides together and sew along the short side on both sides to create a closed piece.
Attach allowances.

Sew the side strips to the front piece

Place the front piece and zipper strip right sides together. The middle of the zipper should line up with the middle of the front of the backpack. Fasten everything with pins, straightening the fabric at the bends.
Stitch the details carefully. Sew seam allowances using black thread (or choose another color that suits you).

Make a loop for a pen

Cut out two 10.5cm x 7cm rectangles from the same fabric you used for the front pocket and sew them together along the short side.
Now straighten the seam, fold the fabric in half lengthwise inside out and sew together.
You should end up with a long fabric tube.
Attach a safety pin to one end of the tube and carefully turn it right side out.
Bend both ends, aligning them in the middle with the sides, and iron everything as shown in the picture.
Sew the handle to the top of the right side of the back piece.

Sew on the straps

Cut out a 11cm x 11cm square from the denim.
Using a ruler, draw a line from one corner to the opposite and cut the square along it.
Lay one of the 28 cm straps at right angles to the long side of the triangle and fold it in half around the strap as shown in the photo. Leave a small piece of webbing sticking out of the triangle and stitch the fabric to the webbing.
Turn the triangle and strap right side out and sew the corner. For extra strength, sew a square stitch through the fabric and the tip of the webbing that you left sticking out of the triangle.
Do the same with the other strap and triangle, but use the fabric wrong side out.
Place the triangles at the same height from the bottom edge of the back of the backpack and sew them on.

Attach strap adjusters

Cut two more pieces of straps 8 cm long and burn the edges with a match or lighter so that they do not fray.
Pass a piece of webbing through the adjuster and back, stitch the end. The adjuster should be attached to the end of the strap in a small loop.
Attach the short strap to one end of the long strap (47.5 cm) as shown in the photo.
To get an idea of how it will all look together in the end, look at the first photo.
(If you don't have straps ready and want to make them from scratch, cut two 47.5cm x 4cm strips of fabric and sew them into long tubes, then turn them right side out like you did with the handle.)

Make an inside key pocket

Cut out a 24.5cm x 9.5cm rectangle from the denim.
Wrap one of the short ends twice and sew.
Fold the rectangle right side inward. Sew along the sides.
Turn the pocket right side out and make two small slits on each side so that the seams that are inside lie flat.
Wrap up the small patches that came out when you made the cuts and stitch the pocket in a circle with a contrasting thread.

Minor tweaks before final assembly

Universal denim does not lose its relevance in the new summer season. A bag made of jeans is a new current trend of summer 2016. You can decorate your wardrobe with a fashionable detail at no extra cost if you sew a wardrobe element with your own hands. Fortunately, the material is easy to find in any home: any old, worn denim fabric or denim pants that have lost their relevance will come in handy.

Jeans backpack pattern

It is not difficult to make a pattern on your own, without turning to professional cutters. To do this, on thick cardboard or special paper, draw the details of the future thing, according to the intended dimensions. Mandatory parts: front, back, valve, straps, or a cord or braid that tightens a denim backpack.

You can foresee and draw in advance the front, side pockets, the height of the back and its width. Remember: the front will be a mirror copy of the back.

Wedge details are needed if you plan to make a bottom, and the longest side should be equal to the width of the back and front of the product.

Did you come up with a pattern? Transfer it to the fabric, remembering to leave seam allowances (about 3 cm).

A good idea!

Beads, rhinestones, rivets, satin or chintz inserts will turn your wardrobe item into a real masterpiece of hand-made. It is easy to tailor a thing even by eye: a big plus for sewing any thing from denim is that they do not require an exact fit and take liberties.

How to sew a backpack with your own hands: step by step instructions

We will need: denim, a little padding polyester, zipper, scraps of multi-colored fabric, velvet, lace, to your taste.

  1. We cut out the details, the size of which you choose yourself, focusing on the size of the future product. Do not forget about the straps, the bottom of the product and its side parts. Prepare the lining.
  2. Now you need to line every detail, cut it out and stitch it with a padding polyester. So the denim backpack will keep its shape better.
  3. Sew the pieces together and sew on the straps. Now you need to sew two strips to the lock, making a bend inward for turning and sewing the sidewalls.
  4. Sew on a zipper, straps and a handle to carry the product while holding it from above.
  5. A similar scheme can be used for half a clade by connecting it to the main part.
  6. Decorate the finished product with your own hands with your own patchwork pattern, or come up with an interesting plot.

Fashion advice! When working with denim, there is a pleasant nuance: any deformation of the fabric, whether it is abrasion or a hole, can be played up and hidden behind accessories. Denim is a very fertile material that looks great with many fabrics: corduroy, pieces of leather or velvet are always appropriate and stylish in combination with jeans.

DIY duffel bag

A purse in the form of a bag is a very pleasant element of the wardrobe. A versatile bag-bag without a specific shape is very easy to sew from pants, old frayed shorts, or a boring skirt. In this case, even a teenager can cope with the work: a pattern is not required at all, and fantasy can run wild.

For a small handbag, you will need only one leg, and for a large one, stitch two in random order and get a wider canvas. All that remains is to sew a hole for an elastic band or lace at the top and pull off the finished product. After that, decorate the duffel bag to your liking.

Playing with styles!A bag can completely replace even a fashionable evening clutch. Embroider it with multi-colored sequins, decorate with multi-colored beads, sew on lace or leather inserts. You can sew several bags of different sizes to beat the outfit with a fresh accessory every day.

Pattern of a children's backpack

Many craftswomen make a children's duffel bag or satchel from denim using denim patches of different colors. In this case, pre-sewn patches combined from different fabrics are better suited. The pattern in this case can be conditional: you just need to provide for the details of the front, back wall, straps and valve. Decorate according to your own tastes and preferences.

According to the reviews of all the denim sewers, this material is dense, so you will need sharp scissors and a thread thicker than the standard one (numbers 100 and 120). As accessories, you can use used carabiners, leather straps, buttons and rivets.

When planning a children's backpack, do not forget that for a boy they should be more strict. Thermal applications will help to dilute the “severe cut”. However, everything depends solely on the wishes of the child and the skillful hands of the craftswoman.

To date, the backpack bag has won the greatest popularity among the many accessories. An indispensable thing not only in the city, but also for various trips. Buying a backpack bag is not a problem, but for those who love needlework it is much more interesting and pleasant to sew it with their own hands, especially since the choice of materials always remains with the needlewoman. Therefore, a hand-sewn accessory has an individual design without losing its functionality.

How to make a do-it-yourself women's transformer backpack?

To make such a transformer, you need to prepare:

  • flisofix;
  • piece of neoprene measuring 55 cm x 140 cm;
  • a piece of skin;
  • a piece of matting 160 cm wide and 45 cm long;
  • zipper 35 cm long;
  • three buckles:
  • as well as threads, pins, scissors, a ruler and two ready-made pens with carabiners 85 cm long.

We draw a pattern of three parts. Two rectangles measuring 33x23 cm and 43x13 cm, a circle with a diameter of 28 cm.

All measurements include seam allowances.

Next steps:

  • We cut out one round piece from neoprene, matting and adhesive and glue them together with an iron, placing a circle of adhesive fabric between neoprene and matting. We do the same with parts 43x13 in size, cut out of leather, neoprene and glue. In a rectangular glued blank, we make a side seam and attach a circle to it, departing from the edge of 1 cm.
  • We cut out two parts of 33x23 cm from neoprene and matting, which we sew together along the long side. We attach a zipper to the resulting two parts, without bending the sections to which we glue, and then sew two strips of leather measuring 2x44 cm.
  • Now we grind the side seams of this blank and attach two buckles to different ends of the zipper. To attach the buckles to the bag, we cut two pieces of leather. Each part consists of two rectangles measuring 6x45 cm, interconnected by a jumper 2x2 cm. We insert buckles into them and fix them with glue and an iron, and then sew them along the side seams.
  • For the third buckle, you need to cut out a 2.5x5 cm loop from the leather and sew it to the blank of glued parts (bottom of the bag). Now we connect the bottom and top of the accessory by stitching from the wrong side, joining the bottom side seam with the top seam. The bag is ready.

We sew for a child

For a baby, you can design and sew a beautiful backpack that transforms into a bag with a handle.

We will need:

  • two types of fabric: plain and with an ornament;
  • harshness and synthetic winterizer for sealing;
  • a cord in the color of a plain fabric and four zippers.

The accessories required for manufacturing consist of a magnetic fastener, three buckles, two half rings, two carabiners and one fixing element for the cord. As tools we use threads, scissors and a sewing machine.

cutting

  1. We cut out seven rectangular blanks from fabric with an ornament. Two pieces each for the back pocket 25x25 cm, for the front pocket 16x25 cm, for the side walls 15x32 cm and one blank 8x130 cm for the fabric shoulder strap.
  2. From a plain fabric, we cut out one blank for the back and front walls of the backpack 25x32 cm. We duplicate the details for two types of belt loops 8x15 cm and 8x10 cm in size, as well as for a backpack strap 8x80 cm.
  3. We will sew the upper part of the backpack from two blanks 25x25 cm, in which we cut off the corners of 7 cm on each side.
  4. For the bottom of the bag, draw an oval 28 cm wide and 16 cm high.

Sewing steps

  • For sealing the lid, bottom, two walls, belt loops and backpack straps we cut out from the severity of one detail. Additionally, we seal the bottom and the back wall with synthetic winterizer. Three blanks for the bottom are stitched together and set aside.
  • We sew zippers on one side to blanks for pockets. We sew pockets to the front and back wall of the backpack, from the front side. Carefully align the pocket, pinned to the wall. We put a braid on the upper half of the zipper and attach it to the main workpiece. It turned out two blanks with pockets.
  • We sew the side compacted parts to the back wall, we overlay the sections. At the belt loops, we tuck the sections inward, fold in half and sew along. We insert frames into the finished loops and sew to the back wall.
  • Now we are preparing the backpack straps. To do this, we turn the sections from the long sides inward, then fold in half and iron both parts. We insert a zipper between them and sew.
  • We grind the workpiece, consisting of a back wall and two side walls with a front wall and a bottom. We turn out and attach to it a strip of 8x80 cm, intended for a lace with pre-folded edges, and, stepping back from the top edge about 5 cm.
  • We sew details at the lid of the backpack, iron, insert the upper half of the fastener, decorate, and then sew to the main workpiece along with backpack straps. On the sides we attach loops with inserted half rings.
  • We insert the second half of the fastener into the front wall. Now we sew the lining, adding a pocket with a zipper. We place the finished lining inside the backpack, bending the upper cut by 2 cm, and stepping back about 5 mm from the edge we sew. Then we retreat another 5 mm and make a line along the strip for the lace.
  • We insert the cord with a pin inside the product, and we drag the ends through the fixing device, we tie the ends with a knot.
  • Now we sew the strap over the shoulder. We bend the sections inward, fold in half, iron and sew on the front side.
  • At the ends we install a buckle for adjusting the length and a carabiner.

The bag is ready.

To make this interesting and fun beach accessory you will need:

  1. Two terry towels 70x140 and 50x90.
  2. Waterproof fabric 100x150.
  3. Fabric cuts of various sizes for pockets, paws and head. For the top pocket and the lining of the ears - 50x100 cm, lining for paws - 50x50 cm and for the bottom pocket - 50x90 cm.

  5. In addition, you will need threads, scissors, pins and a fabric marker.

Sewing

  • We cut out the muzzle from a cut 47x37 cm. We draw on paper, and then cut out the eyes, nose, ears. We apply the resulting details to the fabric, circle and cut out. The resulting blanks are attached to the head with a figured seam.
  • Then we cut out two parts from the lining fabric and one identical size from the fabric that does not allow moisture to pass through. Sew the parts of the ears with the lining fabric and set aside.
  • We pin the belt tape on the details with pins. We sew pockets and a loop with a half ring into one of the lining blanks. We attach a zipper between the lining parts and the front ones. For convenience, we sew pieces of rep tape. We grind the lining blanks around the perimeter, folding them with their front sides. We sew ears to the muzzle.

  • Preparing parts for paws. To do this, we cut out four parts for each paw: two for the lining, one main terry cloth and one fabric that does not allow moisture to pass through.
  • We sew the main terry and one lining, folding the front sides. Then we fold the sewn parts right sides up and make another line. We put the second lining blank face up, and on it the sewn blank with the terry side up, stepping back from the edge 2-3 cm and a blank made of fabric that does not allow moisture to pass through face down. We fasten all the details with pins and draw an oval shape for the paw from the bottom edge. We cut and sew along the perimeter, do not touch the upper cut and turn it inside out. It turned out a paw with a pocket. Do the same with the remaining three paws.

This summer I really want to go to the sea. I want to start active preparatory work now. Today, for example, I made myself a backpack for going to the beach. I made it so simple that it took me about an hour to complete it.

At first I planned to sew a beach bag. And then I figured that, in addition to beach accessories, I would also have an active two-year-old child. And it is desirable for my hands to be as free as possible. Therefore, I decided to sew not a bag, but a backpack.

The backpack had to be as simple and fast as possible in tailoring. It is very difficult to sew something with my daughter. She loves to unwind threads, scatter needles and cut everything with scissors. I made it very simple. Well, now you can see for yourself.

In order to sew a backpack, I needed:

- cotton fabric - 2.1 l.m. (50cm width)
- matching threads
- drawstring with lock

My backpack consisted of 2 main parts: a circle with a diameter of 20 cm (plus 1 cm for a seam) and a piece of fabric 50 cm wide and 70 cm long. I made both parts in 2 copies and later sewed them on the wrong side of each other to friend. So I didn't need a lining. The backpack, let me remind you, was supposed to be very simple.
By the way, I cut out the circle using a plate.
Additional details for me were two strips for straps 70 cm long and 10 cm wide, as well as squares for the inner and outer pockets in the form of 20x20 cm squares.
I folded the straps with the right side inward and swept. Turned up the pockets and smoothed them.
To be honest, I also processed the fabric to a minimum. Pockets and straps are not processed. Folded the top pocket twice.
I sewed the straps along the length and turned them inside out. Next I sewed the folded sides of the pockets.
I laid out the fabric of the main part of the backpack and placed the future pocket in the center. Marked its location.
She turned the pocket inside out completely and basted the bottom of it with bright yellow thread.
Then, in this form, she turned the entire part of the backpack to the other side. Let me remind you that it is also the front on the other side, since the two cut-offs lie inside out to each other and, accordingly, with the front sides out. I found the outlines of the yellow thread and swept the second pocket to it.
I got two pockets swept from the bottom on both sides of the backpack.
As you can see on the inside seam of the pocket, the machine began to let me down hard. With difficulty, I sewed the bottom of the pockets, and then also sewed the pockets on the sides through two layers in one fell swoop.
Later, I had to change this thread to a denser one, so that the machine would not finally die. Therefore, in the future, I ask you not to pay attention to some discrepancy between the color of the threads and the color of the fabric.
The next step I tacked the round base of the backpack to the main part.
And then I stitched it, not forgetting to insert the edges of the two straps at a distance of about 5 cm from the central seam.
This is what my backpack looks like from the front.
The only thing left to do is to make the tightening part. Usually a ribbon is sewn to the top of the backpack. But this option seemed too complicated to me, also with a machine that decided to let me down. And I decided to just fold the edges on top. I smoothed them, tucking them 2 times.
