Knitted ottomans do-it-yourself master. DIY non-designer knitted ottoman

Good afternoon friends!

From large round pillows in the last publication, today we will move on to a more voluminous thing and make a pouffe with our own hands. I will have a selection of photo ideas for knitted pouffes with diagrams and descriptions: a round and cylindrical pouf crochet, a pouf in the form of a ball and a square pouf with knitting needles.

Knitted puffs in the interior

A pouffe is more than a pillow, it is a versatile piece of furniture that can be round, cubic or cylindrical. And how many functions knitted puffs can perform in the interior!

First of all, it is an additional cozy place to sit. Small puffs can be hidden under the table and pulled out as needed. Some people like to keep pouffes next to the bed, sofa or armchair. Others can be brought to the fore in the room, giving it a special charm. Depending on the purpose, you can choose the desired size of the pouffe for the living room.

You can make an excellent table out of a pouffe by placing a tray, plates and other essentials on its surface. This is especially true for those who like to sit with a cup of coffee in front of the TV screen. You can even make a modular coffee table by placing a glass or other surface on two side-by-side poufs, or use one large pouf.

Soft knitted puffs are the perfect solution for a child's room, you can play with them, jump, and put books and toys.

Puffs are a wonderful footstool. They can be easily moved around the room and placed either closer or further away from a chair or chair.

If such a pouf is in the bedroom next to the bed, you can throw a dressing gown on it. And in the hallway it is convenient to sit down, putting on shoes.

In general, designers consider knitted poufs just a fashionable item of stylish interior.

How to make a pouffe with your own hands

If I convinced and interested you, let's get down to business. Do-it-yourself pouf - it's easy! You just need to tie a simple cover and insert a pillow from the lining material into it, stuffing it with some kind of filler.

Yarn

For knitted puffs, woolen or half-woolen yarn, acrylic in half with wool 100m / 50g thick in a skein are best suited.

Depending on the size of the ottoman, you may need from 500 g to 1600 grams.

It is very popular now to knit from knitted yarn and such a knitted pouffe looks very beautiful, neat, bright. But imagine the cost of such a product and the consumption of knitted yarn per pouffe, if a hank of 50 grams is only 30 m long and costs 350 rubles! Well, unless you have a lot of old T-shirts, from which you will cut the yarn, the principles of knitting from it are the same as simple puffs from wool yarn, only you will need to take a hook 8-10.

In my opinion, this is the case, as with rugs, when you can use cheap yarn, and choosing a beautiful color and pattern, you can end up making a very good hanger.

Lining

The lining can be sewn from any fabric, old knitwear. Two parts are cut out of it according to the size of the pouffe and sewn together along the edge, leaving a large hole. After stuffing with filling material, the hole is sewn up.

Filler

How to fill a knitted pouffe:

  • cotton wool
  • foam rubber
  • synthetic winterizer
  • holofiber
  • polystyrene beads.

You will need a lot of filler, about a kilogram of cotton wool or 5 liters of balls. They fill the cover very tightly, crushing with hands and giving the desired shape.

But in this case, you still get a relatively soft pouf. If you want a more rigid pouf, you can make it from plastic bottles, for example.

And creative people make a pouffe out of a tire with their own hands! Old car tires are more and more used not only in the country for beautiful flower beds.

To create a puff from a tire, a plywood circle is cut out of its diameter and attached to the tire using self-tapping screws. Often the top and edges are decorated by wrapping with twine, or for a home interior, if anyone dares to do this, knit a cover for a pouffe from woolen threads or sew from denim.

Crochet puffs

Simple round knitted pouffe

Photo from the magazine "Wonderful Hook".

For a pouffe with a diameter of 48 cm and a height of 24 cm, you will need 100 grams of thick yarn (80% acrylic, 20% wool) in five different colors for stripes and 300 grams of yarn in the main color (bright red). The recommended hook size is #10.

Description

When crocheting this pouffe, single crochet stitches are used. You need to start knitting from the top, dialing 5 VP, and then - according to the rules of the circle, adding loops in each row and alternating different colors of threads.

In the first row - 12 C1H, and by the 11th row you should already have 120 columns.

Rows 11-21 are knitted without increases in the main color yarn.

And from the 22nd row we again introduce different colors and knit with decreasing loops in the reverse order.

At the level of the 25th row, you can insert a bag with polypropylene balls into the case and then continue knitting until 6 loops remain.

Pull the remaining hole with a needle and thread.

This is the basic technology for crocheting puffs. Of course, you can use any patterns, for example, make paths from embossed columns or paths from “bumps”.

Cylindrical pouffe

And although the photo shows puffs connected with a smooth pattern, the scheme is just with embossed columns. (There was no photo for this scheme from a needlework magazine unknown to me).

The difference between knitting a cylindrical pouffe and a round one is only in its size: the diameter is smaller and the height is larger (40 x 50 cm).

Here it is enough to knit 8 rows of the circle according to the scheme, and then knit all the rows without increments as the 8th to the desired height of the pouffe.

Insert a folded roll of foam rubber into the resulting cylinder and sew a round leather detail at the bottom.

Large striped pouf

Photo from the magazine "Burda" for 2019.

The pouffe is knitted from 100% cotton thread (85 m/50g) with a hook 4.5 and it turns out 60 cm in diameter and 30 cm high.

The total consumption of yarn is 700 grams: 100 grams for each of the seven colors). I think it will be very convenient to use leftover yarn.

Description

The bottom and top of the pouffe are two crocheted circles. Knitting with single crochets with a change of color in the rows. Approximately, you need to knit 48 rows, while in rows 18.19, 27, 28, 32, 33, 39, 40, 44, 45 do not increase, this will result in a hemisphere.

The side is knitted on 44 loops in turning rows, also with a color change. The length of this strip can be checked by the circumference of the round part. At the end of knitting, connect the last row with the first into a ring and tie the upper edge of the ring with double crochets.

Then connect the side part with round crochet, tying it with single crochets.

Pouffe made of square motifs

Photo from the magazine "Diana Creative" for 2019.

This pouffe is proposed to be knitted from wool melange yarn (100m/50g). Consumption: 450 grams per pouffe with a height of 18 cm and a diameter of 50 cm with a knitting density obtained with hook No. 6.

Description

Knitting is more convenient to start with the middle part, consisting of square motifs. Motifs fit easily according to the pattern below in circular rows.

Connect 9 ready-made motifs together in a ring.

The upper and lower parts can be knitted similarly to the previous striped model. But if you start from a square, then it should be tied to the shape of a circle in the 7th row as follows: along the side of the square - 3СБН, 5PS, 5С1Н, 5PS, 3СБН, into the corner loop - 2СБН, 3С1Н, 2СБН.

The connection of the round parts with the ring should be done in a stepwise manner.

Knitted poufs

Knitted round pouffe

Yarn will need about 800 grams (50m / 50g) per pouffe measuring 50x28 cm. Knitting needles - straight No. 8.

Drawing - garter stitch (all rows are facial).

Description

You need to knit a pouffe with knitting needles in the transverse direction on 24-30 loops in rotary rows.

In the first two rows we knit all the loops.

In the next 2 rows at the end of the row, do not knit 4 loops, tighten the last loop and turn the work.

In the 5th-6th row we do not knit the last 8 loops.

In the 7th row, we knit all the loops to the end.

In the 8th row, again knitting on all loops.

This will form a ball. Having connected 120-130 cm, we close all the loops.

Pull the thread through the hem on one side, pull it off and sew it up.

Sew the first row with the last.

Insert the pillow with filling and pull off the bottom edge of the pouffe.

Cover for a square ottoman

Knitting an ottoman in the form of a cube with knitting needles is generally very simple.

To do this, first knit a strip 50 cm wide and 2 m long, connect its edges.

Then the square sides (50x50 cm) are knitted and connected to a long strip.

For a pattern, as in the photo, alternate the purl and front loops, shifting them in each row.

Pouf from an old sweater

If you have some old sweater that you don’t need for a long time, this is just a convenient material for creating a fashionable pouffe with your own hands and you don’t need to knit anything anymore.

  1. Turn the sweater inside out.
  2. Rip off the sleeves.
  3. We sew armholes.
  4. We tightly tighten the neck with strong threads.
  5. We sew a cover from the lining material by connecting two large circles.
  6. We stuff the lining with pieces of foam rubber or holofiber.
  7. We insert this pillow into a cover from an old sweater.
  8. Sew up the bottom of the sweater, carefully pulling along the edge.
  9. We enjoy our work.

A fashionable knitted pouffe, made by hand, regardless of technology, will decorate any interior!

Any stylish interior cannot be considered complete if it lacks design elements. To do this, it is not necessary to go shopping for a long time in search of glamorous details. An original addition to the interior can be a round knitted pouffe.
A bright pouffe will look great in a nursery, bedroom and even a living room. It is quite simple to tie such a pouf on your own, and you do not need to add or subtract loops; the scheme is based on a simple rectangular shape. As a filler for a knitted pouffe, you can use foam rubber or expanded polystyrene balls, which are easy to find in hardware stores. Choose the color of the yarn depending on your mood and the design of the room for which the pouffe is intended.

round pouffe

How to knit a round pouf

The first and easiest way.
You will need the thickest needles you have, ideally no. 10, as much as possible, and thick yarn. If the yarn is not very thick, you need to knit in 2 - 3 additions of the thread.
Cast on 40 stitches or as many as you need - this will be the approximate height of your pouffe. Work in garter st (knit all rows) for a long rectangle. For a small ottoman, the knitting width will be approximately 50 cm, and the length is about 1 meter. Firmly sew the finished knitted tight, closing the rectangle into a ring. In order to give shape to our future pouf, it is necessary to pull off one of the sides of the resulting ring. This will be the top or bottom of the pouf. To do this, pass the thread of the same yarn that was knitted with, or any other strong thread, through every second loop of one of the long sides of the rectangle and tighten it tightly until a minimum hole is formed in the center of the bottom. Then take another of the same thread and thread it through the loops that were left free the first time and tighten it just as tightly.
It remains to put the filler into the knitted pouf and pull off the second side of the ring, in the same way as the first. For the filler, it is better to sew a technical cover from any dense fabric, having previously cut it to the size of the knitted fabric. To be able to add filler during the operation of the pouffe, a small zipper, 10-15 cm long, can be sewn into the technical cover. Then the pouffe will last longer and it will be possible to refresh the knitted and technical covers without much difficulty. It is important to know that without an inner cover made of dense fabric, the pouf can stretch and lose its shape.

Second way, is also quite simple, its secret is in the alternation of knitting needles of different diameters.
To make a medium-sized knitted pouffe in this way, you will need:
- circular knitting needles No. 2, 3, 4, 5;
- yarn of medium thickness - 500 or 600 g, depending on the size of the pouffe;
- loose filler, previously placed in a technical case.
To knit the bottom of the pouffe, we collect 40 loops on circular knitting needles No. 3 and knit in a circle with an elastic band 1 x 1 approximately 3-4 cm in height.
Switch to needle size 2 and work 4-5 cm in garter st and 5 cm in English rib.
Continue knitting with English Rib with knitting needles No. 3, after 5 cm go to knitting needles No. 4, after another 5 cm knit from each loop - 2 loops, you get 80 loops. Knit 80 loops with a regular elastic band 2x2 or English elastic band 2x2. Having thus knitted 4-5 cm, switch to the needles of the largest diameter, in our case No. 5.
On knitting needles No. 5 we knit the required height of the pouffe, 30 or 40 cm at your discretion. The pattern of the main part of the knitting can be a simple or English elastic band 1x1 or 2x2, but always an elastic band. When the required height is connected, go to the knitting needles No. 4, after 5 cm to the knitting needles No. 3 and the front surface. Having knitted 2-3 cm with the front surface, we gradually begin to reduce the number of loops. To do this, divide 80 loops by 4, and distribute the loops as follows:
* 19 facial - 1 purl *
On both sides of the purl loop, we knit two loops together in each even row, so 8 loops are reduced in each even row. Knit, reducing the loops until only four wrong loops remain on the needles. They can be closed, or you can knit a decorative “tail” of arbitrary length so that it looks intricately from under the pouffe.

Method three: More recently, I found another interesting idea for knitting a pouffe with knitting needles. As a result, I got these rainbow puffs.

rainbow puffs knitting

The main knitting, as in the first version of the knitted pouffe, is garter. The difference from the 1st option is that it is necessary to connect not a rectangle, but a parallelogram.

To knit a parallelogram, it is necessary: in every second row - at the beginning of the row, add one loop, and at the end of the same row, reduce one loop, knitting the last 2 loops together. Thus, we knit a fabric of the required length, it all depends on what height we want to get a pouf. For a "rainbow" effect, change the color of the yarn after 2 or 4 rows. Or you can do it every 6 rows - it really depends on your imagination.

As in the first version, we sew the canvas, closing it into a ring with two narrow sides towards each other. After, we tighten the bottom of the pouf and sew it. We fill the pouffe with filler, not forgetting about the technical cover and sew the upper part of the pouf.

Perhaps you have already seen such unusual knitting on the Internet and did not even think that it was handmade. One of the first to learn how to knit these items from sheep wool was the Dutch designer Kristen Meindertsma. Many people know how to knit a hat, scarf or sweater...Who would have thought that you can knit such a carpet and pouffe with your own hands!

Using giant 1-meter knitting needles and huge yarn, Kristen looks like Thumbelina in the process. In addition, she learned how to shear sheep with her own hands, spin wool and get thick, like ropes, threads.

Merino wool carpets are widely known. From afar, they look warm and cozy, like a grandmother's sweater, and only by placing a person or some object next to them, you can estimate their real size.

But her huge knitted ottomans have earned the greatest popularity, which look very cozy even in modern minimalist interiors. Each such pouf is soft, but durable, you can sit on it, or you can even lie down if you move a couple side by side.

Would you like to crochet something similar for your home? See how to do this on the next page.

How to make an ottoman with your own hands

A similar pouf can be made independently, while doing without giant knitting needles. This is a very cute and cozy piece of furniture that will please anyone, so if you want to make, for example, an unusual gift for your mother with your own hands, then such original knitting is a great option.

To make a knitted pouffe with your own hands, you need to take the following materials and tools:

  • knitted ribbon yarn - 4 skeins of 100 m;
  • holofiber (pouffe filler) - 2 kg;
  • piece of cotton fabric - 100x160 cm;
  • strong thread or rope - 2 pcs. 20 cm long;
  • knitting needles number 10;
  • hook number 10.

Such a volume of materials will allow you to make a knitted pouf 57 cm in diameter and 40 cm in height with your own hands.

Filler case

First of all, you need to sew a cover in which we will place the filler for the pouffe:

How to knit a pouf

Before knitting a pouffe with your own hands, you should understand how to knit front and back loops, with which the following video will help you:

We knit a pouf with a simple pattern - pearl. Look at the diagram:

You see, nothing complicated - you need to alternate the wrong and front loops in each row. In this case, we start the odd rows from the front loop, and the even rows from the wrong side.

Basically, our unusual knitting is done with short rows. To learn how to make an ottoman in this way, you should learn how to knit wrapped loops that complete each such row:

  1. When you get to knitting the wrapped loop, loop the working yarn over the needle, bringing it to the right side.
  2. Do not knit the next loop, but simply remove it on the right knitting needle.
  3. Bring the working thread back to work, passing it between the knitting needles.
  4. Return the slipped loop back to the left needle and turn the knitting over.

You can clearly see how to knit in short rows and make a wrapped loop in this video:
