Oktoberfest Beer Festival, Munich, last week of September - first week of October(two weeks)
Every autumn, huge beer tents are set up on the Theresienwiese meadow and 16 days of fun begin. In fact, Oktoberfest is the world's largest annual festival, with 6.5 million people attending in recent years. Large tents and awnings can accommodate up to 6,000 beer lovers at a time; they are installed by restaurants or city bar owners. Each tent has its own special atmosphere: the Hofbrauhaus Festhalle is for ordinary tourists, the Wiesenschanke attracts more sophisticated visitors, the Festhalle Schottenhamel is a place where young people gather. Oktoberfest begins in mid-September with a parade of festival organizers and brewers who brew a special beer for the festival, Wiesn. The procession is like a colorful carnival with floats and musicians. The Lord Mayor of Munich opens Oktoberfest by raising a full glass of beer into the air. The waiters quickly go around the crowd with mugs so that people begin to quench their thirst and do not stop until the beginning of October. Of course, besides beer, there is a lot of things here: snack bars, funhouses, performances, dancing, shooting galleries, puppet theaters, circus tents, mini-cars and carousels. During the festival, 5.7 million liters of beer are drunk, hundreds of thousands of chickens and sausages, hundreds of bulls, tens of thousands of kilograms of fish and cheese are eaten. In 1810, the Bavarian king Ludwig I married Therese von Sachsenhildburghausen and the local population celebrated this event for 16 days in a row. They had so much fun that they decided to do it again a year later. This has been going on for almost two hundred years. (Oktoberfest website)

Beer festival "Oktoberfest", not only in Munich, but also in Stuttgart
You can get to a real beer paradise with its capital in Munich at the end of September, which is what more than 6 million people do every year. The occasion for a two-week beer binge was the wedding of Louis of Bavaria and Teresa of Saxony. Since then, every year the main action of the beer festival is concentrated on Theresenweise (“Theresa’s meadow”), since on the opening day a solemn procession comes there, consisting of columns of shooters, brass bands, carts with beer, people in national costumes, and the leader of the procession girl with a bell, symbol of Munich.
Competitions, games, dances, and Bavarian songs only complement the enormous consumption of beer from liter mugs. You should snack on beer with Bavarian sausages, fish fingers, fried pork legs with sauerkraut and pretzels. In Stuttgart, in addition to the traditional drinking of beer, they also go rafting and organize balloon competitions.

For 200 years now, the traditional holiday “Moors and Christians” has been held in different cities of Spain from January to December. Despite the established script traditions in different provinces, the basis of the holiday is the same everywhere: a spectacular battle of 1276, in which the Moors were defeated by the Spaniards, is played out on the streets of the city. According to legend, St. George helped the Christians win, who appeared to the soldiers and inspired them to victory with the words: “God is with us, victory is with us!”
In addition to the spectacular battle, at the festival you can see costumed processions and performances by street musicians. A mini-festival and a drawing competition are held for children. It is best to observe what is happening from the balconies of houses, which must be rented in advance.

The sacred fire is lit - and for ten days Cartagena is plunged into the era of the Punic Wars. Then the Roman army gathers under the leadership of the “interlocutor of the gods” Scipio, and the Romans rush into battle. After the victory, the Romans march victoriously through the streets of the city. The festival ends with the extinguishing of the sacred fire and fireworks.

Holidays in the USA in September

Navajo Nation Fair, Arizona, USA, early September
The Dineta Territory (Southeastern United States) is the ancestral land of the Navajo (or Diné) people, stretching across Arizona, parts of Utah and New Mexico. Today it is a semi-autonomous, self-governing region with 150 thousand residents from the largest Indian tribe in the United States. Each September, the Navajo Nation Fair brings together tribal members from around the world and is the largest gathering of Native American people to date. The sacred land of Dineta lies between four sacred mountains that serve as the boundary for the reservation. The Fair blends the typical features of a typical U.S. country fair with a complex set of Navajo beliefs, traditions, and rituals. Usually, first there is a “review” of cattle, then a big parade and dancing in national costumes begin. The program includes competitions in frying flatbreads and drumming competitions. One of the main events is the free distribution of kebabs: 8 thousand Indians eat 1270 kg of meat, beef, specially cooked over coals in pots covered with thin steel sheets and on top with a layer of earth. A beauty contest is also held at the Fair. Basic conditions for participants: from 17 to 21 years old, have at least 10% Indian blood, be unmarried and have no children. There is no provision for participants to wear swimsuits; in addition to appearance, dance, “traditional talent” and participation in the life of the community are assessed. The Navajo Professional Rodeo is also a highlight, as they have been known for centuries as excellent horsemen and ranchers. And, of course, there is a sea of souvenirs and traditional products, that’s what the Fair is for: rugs and blankets with exquisite complex patterns and rich symbolism, silver products and turquoise jewelry. All this is accompanied by the sale of national food - stewed lamb and fried flatbread.

International Music and Dance Festival in Bangkok
The International Music and Dance Festival takes place approximately from September 5 to September 30.

Vegetarian Festival, Phuket (late September - early October)
Residents of Phuket of Chinese origin go on a vegetarian diet for nine days. The first day of the festival is marked by a parade of adherents of a vegetarian diet in white robes.
This Phuket holiday is also called “masochism in Thailand.”
During the holiday, no one eats meat, because one of the most amazing Buddhist religious ceremonies in the world takes place in Koh Phuket, on the island of Phuket. The holiday includes "ascetic" rituals in the form of self-flagellation, piercing one's cheeks with almost two-meter poles and climbing a ladder of blades. All this happens every year in the first nine days of the ninth lunar month according to the Chinese calendar.
In the opinion of a European, the word holiday does not quite correspond to the content of the festival, because the main principle here is that the more terrible things a person does to himself, the better.
Nine days before the festival, volunteers - "Warriors of the Gods" - perform a strict fast. They stop eating meat, abstain from alcohol, cigarettes, sex, lies, quarrels and murders. This ritual purifies their minds and prepares them to possess the Nine Emperor Gods, and perform various monstrous ascetic feats. Most likely, they are convinced that the gods inhabit their bodies at the moment of self-torture, and this allows them to endure a very high degree of pain.
Phuket's Chinese temples also take part in the festival. In the courtyards of temples, various religious ceremonies are celebrated in honor of the Warriors of the Gods to the beat of drums, the ringing of bells and the sounds of cymbals. First, they are smoked with incense, and then the attendants bring various instruments of “torture”: hooks, steel rods, swords, umbrellas, blades and chains, which are first tested on hard vegetables and fruits. First, the volunteer goes into a trance by jumping and screaming. Since there can be more than sixty Warriors, the temple becomes like a menagerie. Some bark like dogs, others pretend to be monkeys... Having entered into ecstasy, they begin the main action, and the wounds of the participants do not bleed and they themselves do not seem to experience pain.
The celebration moves to the city, where the participants follow the parade and everyone tries to be as creative as possible in self-torture. Young people carrying the altar through the streets periodically set off fireworks using small sticks of dynamite - this process symbolizes the purification of the city's air from evil. The apotheosis comes one night when hundreds of people climb the 12-meter razor ladder, consisting of 72 sharpened blades. Usually, most warriors manage to climb up the stairs on one side and down the other without cutting their feet...
At the end of the holiday of self-execution, each warrior approaches his priest, who, laying his hands on the martyr, brings him out of his trance. The warrior opens his eyes and leaves as if nothing had happened.

Czech Republic: celebration of young wine
In the Czech Republic, young wine is called not some gentle word like Beaujolais Nouveau, but simply and sonorously - Burcak, and it appears already in mid-September. The greenish-gray liquid, whose consistency and aroma resembles Soviet apple juice with pulp, is drunk a maximum of a month after the grapes have been crushed, while it has not yet had time to ferment. Burcak is very cheap and is served in mid-September throughout the Czech Republic: in bars, cafes, restaurants, but mainly in squares.

The holiday with folk festivities on its occasion lasts only three days, but in almost every city it takes place at different times. In Prague, the main square for the unofficial celebration of new wine is Jiřího z Poděbrad on Žižkov.

People, mostly young people, gather here in the evenings from all over the city. There are two goals. The first is to get drunk quickly: drinking is surprisingly easy! , and its effect is felt extremely quickly. The second is to listen to music: mass drinking of burchak is accompanied by performances by musicians. In small Czech towns these are usually local folk orchestras of cheerful men. In Prague these are the monsters of the local rock scene. However, everyone has approximately the same repertoire: pseudo-folk songs with dubious morals, such as ditties.

People gather around the musicians, on the grass, and communicate. Those who are more active play simple games in the fresh air. Games are chosen so that there are fewer complex movements, and more opportunities to fall and fall asleep. For example, tug of war. The fun begins at 4-5 pm, and disperses or, rather, creeps away late at night. The festivities take place from mid-September to the end of October.

Events in Switzerland in September

Music and fireworks festival in Lucerne
Russian tourists are infrequent visitors to Swiss landscapes. The pinnacle of the bourgeois way of life - the quietest, noblest, gentlest and terribly expensive Switzerland as a summer holiday destination appeals only to those who, through material well-being, have already achieved mental balance or are striving to achieve it, without burdening their consciousness with thoughts from the perspective of “I would rather have this thousand dollars (two, three, four, five...) spent on something useful in the household.” But still I am drawn to Switzerland. There is such a charm in the myth about this country that it is difficult to fight.

If you need a good reason to justify to your loved ones why you are planning to go to Switzerland in the summer, here it is: from mid-August to mid-September, Seenachtsfest takes place in Lucerne - a solid festival of symphonic music, traditionally preceded by a festival of night fireworks over the surface of Lake Lucerne and accompanied by gastronomic extravaganzas in chic restaurants.

On the night festival of lights in Lucerne, when at 22.00 the evening Lucerne will be engulfed in flames, it is best to sit somewhere on the open terrace of a coastal restaurant, look at the “burning” city, feed the Lucerne swans with pieces from your richly served table and listen to how loudly they plop on the Well-fed fish from Lake Lucerne in the water with their tails.

Just don’t think that in Lucerne you will reign among the few tourists. The Lucerne Festival is considered one of the most important festivals of classical and contemporary music, an event that brings together world-famous orchestras and leading conductors, which is why more than 110,000 people come here specifically for concerts.

Shooting festival "Knabenshiessen", mid-September, Zurich
A whole army of teenagers takes part in this ancient Swiss festival. Army - in the literal sense of the word, because 13-17 year old boys and girls will compete in shooting with enviable endurance and composure. The prizes in the competition are serious: last year it was a trip to New York. These days there is a huge fair for the general public, where you can buy children's things and toys quite cheaply.

There will also be a children's parade, street shows and dancing. Sunday is market day: fruit and flower markets are open until the end of the holiday. Choir groups will perform on platforms strewn with flowers. At the end of the holiday a big ball is expected.

Holidays in South Africa in September

Flower Festival, Namaqualand, South Africa, mid-August - mid-September
Most of the year the area Namaqualand V South Africa is an arid, sparsely populated mountain desert in 300 km north of Cape Town. But for 6 spring weeks, these mountains are covered with an unprecedented colorful carpet of wild flowers - one of the most stunning sights on Earth. About 4,000 species of wild flowers take part in this holiday, including Namaqualand chamomile, aloe, lilies, and perennial flowers. They all create intricate patterns of white, purple, yellow, and orange colors. It is impossible to predict where and when peak flowering will occur. This colorful spectacle depends on the wind, sun, rain and temperature. Every day the picture changes. There are, however, a few constants: the flowers are very sensitive to light, they open around 10 a.m. and close at 4. Since the plants always face the sun, they are best observed from the east in the morning and from the west in the evening. Rain, clouds, and winds may temporarily close the show. The distances between different flower fields are significant, so travelers go on real “flower safaris” by car, armed with a detailed map, a camera, and a supply of water and fuel.

September is the ninth month of the Gregorian calendar, one of four months with 30 days. It is considered the beginning of autumn in the northern hemisphere of the Earth and the beginning of spring in the southern hemisphere. The arrival of September is associated by many with the end of a carefree holiday and the beginning of everyday work. And this is not surprising, because we all studied at school, college, and every time the beginning of September meant gaining new knowledge and increasing vitality. Not for nothing professional holidays in September You can count about 20, and church holidays are also expected in September. What other month can be so invigorating?

Review of September holidays

On September 2, all countries of the anti-Hitler and anti-Japanese coalitions widely celebrate the end of World War II. This happened in 1945. In the beginning there was a great victory over the Nazis and was marked by the capture of Berlin and the hoisting of the Red Banner of Victory over the Reichstag (May 45). The Kwantung Army continued fighting in our Far East and Chinese territory. And the USSR declared war on it. In less than five months it ended with the complete defeat of Japanese militarism and its unconditional surrender. In honor of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory on May 9 in Moscow, and on September 3 in Beijing (2015), grandiose parades were held dedicated to these great dates, which were attended by heads of state of dozens of countries, veterans - living participants in past fierce battles with a monstrous enemy. Representatives of the victorious armies also took part in the parades.

On September 2, another important date is celebrated all over the planet - World Heart Day. And this is by no means accidental. Just think about it - over seventeen million people die from cardiovascular diseases every year in the world! In Russia alone, there are 250 heart patients per thousand people. And the numbers continue to grow alarmingly. This is because many people smoke, abuse alcohol, use drugs and lead a sedentary lifestyle. While in ancient times the brilliant physician, philosopher and writer Hippocrates (remember the text of his oath for doctors!) persistently recommended getting rid of bad habits and doing more physical exercise.
Our academician N.M. Amosov, a famous cardiologist, author of a number of popular scientific publications, who during the Great Patriotic War operated on over four thousand wounded people and thereby saved their lives, also spoke a lot about the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. He developed and published a whole range of physical exercises that prevent cardiovascular diseases.
The initiative to celebrate World Heart Day was taken back in 1999 by the World Heart Federation, the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNESCO. Since then, it has been widely celebrated on the planet.
But the fifth of September is Teacher's Day in India, where there are as many as one hundred and fifty million students! The figure is quite comparable to the population of several European or other countries combined. As in Russia, children come to school on this day in formal clothes, with flowers and gifts, and warmly congratulate their mentors and teachers on their professional holiday. There are no classes, but sometimes the lessons are taught by himself and the students. Unlike us, in India, children's education is treated zealously and responsibly. The poorest village has its own school, albeit small. And even with free food for the kids. Under Soviet rule, we also had schools everywhere (remember the film “The Village Teacher”!). Now (2015), as a result of thoughtless reforms and optimization, many rural schools have closed, and children have to walk far or take buses to get an education.
Teacher's Day in India is associated with another important event - the birthday of the great scientific humanist, writer, and so on and so on in order Sarvepalli Radhakrishna, who, for his great services to the state, was elected its president, and ruled the country for five whole years, not counting his vice -presidential term. The statesman and politician, educator made an invaluable contribution to the development of domestic education, including higher education.

An amazing holiday is the Day of Uncharted Roads, celebrated throughout the world on September 4th. And what outstanding names he is associated with! With Christopher Columbus, the discoverer of America. Vasco da Gama - who paved the shortest route from Europe to India. Our Afanasy Nikitin, the author of the famous “Walkings across the Three Seas”, who visited Persia, India, and Turkey. Finally, Fedor Konyukhov, who sailed alone across the Atlantic fifteen times, conquered several of the highest peaks in the world, painted thousands of paintings and published several books about his unforgettable travels.
