Which is better curls or straight hair. Curly or straight? How to love your natural hair structure

I also wanted to touch on the topic of hairstyles and style types. When we talked about facial features and different types image, then in the comments there was a lot about smooth hairstyles for types with graphic features. And in particular, about the fact that they can’t have curls in any way.
In general, if we take some general rule, then, first of all, graphic - smooth, and smooth features - wavy, I agree, it is logical, but do not forget about the shape of the curls and the actual oval of the face.

Curls are also different. It doesn’t have to be round small curls right away. It can be very light curls, which, as it were, do not twist, but refract, they are lines, not circles and ovals. A great example here would be Cate Blanchett and her hairstyles.
Kate has just graphics in the face, more lines than roundness, the nose dominates the face, the line of the eyes and lips is almost straight (JM).
In theory, her hairstyles should go with smooth hair. And it's true, they're coming.

Logically continue the lines of the face:

And children slight negligence in the hair, large slightly disheveled curls, as if in zigzags

no special symmetry

In the next photo, there are already smooth lines in the hairstyle, but the hair is very well removed from the face, and the curls are still relatively large, to match the facial features:

But as soon as the curls get smaller and rounder, we get these examples:

Now it seems to me that it was because of the makeup and styling that I could not finish watching this movie :)

And just two pictures side by side for comparison:

Therefore, I think that curls can be for everyone. The only question is which ones. And then there is the question of whether it suits your face shape. For example, it may be that the face is rounded and very smooth, and the nose is neatly upturned, but curls make the face visually wider.
Or a graphic face, but elongated and there is a lot of asymmetry in the features, which means that the hair pulled back smoothly will only emphasize this even more.
Take the soft-lined type, Susan Sarandon, as an example. Apparently she has her Wavy hair, well, or the image is already so thought out, I didn’t even find a photo with straight hair. The waves look very harmonious.

But it is worth noting that with age, curls, even for soft types, should become larger, otherwise it turns out too decorative. Here you can still compare the color of lipstick in the next two photos, and at the same time the color type, but more on that some other time :) I think it’s quite clear anyway.

By the way, at the same time you have a test, not serious, but suddenly it works for you :) I also have graphics in my face, but my hair is wavy, and usually I just dry it smoothly. But about 1.5 years ago I wanted careless waves so as not to torment the hair with straightening.
And I ordered to test a round curling iron and a flat iron. In the end, after round curling iron I got perfect round curls a la Malvina, and I looked very strange in them;
And then I spied on how the waves are made with a flat iron, and I became happy. I trained for a long time, and even now it doesn’t always work out perfectly, but sometimes, especially in the summer, I make myself such broken curls around my face.
And how are you with curls? :)
P.S. And I remind you that on November 12 in Frankfurt there will be a seminar where we will talk about style, your facial features, lines in clothes, and also about hairstyles that suit your type. You can sign up here.

It's not about the color of the hair, but about their texture. They curl or hang with sticks, depending on the shape of the hair follicle. If the cut has a round section - the hair is straight, oval - wavy, S-shaped - curly. In response to hormonal changes, the situation may change, but most of your life you still live either with waves or without them. We closely study each type of hair, its strengths and weaknesses.

If your hair is straight They are the strongest and most elastic, they reflect light best of all, which means they shine. All this thanks to sebum, which is easily distributed along the entire length of the rod without tripping over curls and bends. In addition, the closely adjacent scales protect against moisture loss and mechanical damage. It seems like what more could you want, but, alas, there is another side to the coin: straight hair quickly becomes greasy.

If your hair is wavy, congratulations, it's golden mean. The sebum is distributed relatively evenly, so wavy hair also shines. At the same time, they are more voluminous and their texture makes daily styling easier.

If your hair is curly They are prone to dryness and damage by default. Due to loose scales, which are injured not only during styling, but even when the hair is rubbed against each other, the curls quickly lose moisture, become brittle and unruly. If you do not take care of such hair, it will be sad: the curls will become chaotic and less pronounced, they will quickly fade.

They need them Problems, as you can see, enough. But all of them are solvable if modern care products are at hand. If hair could make its own wish list, it would look like this.

Shampoo and conditioner marked "for daily care"or" for normal hair "; shampoo for deep cleansing but not more than once a week. You need it only in one case - if you often use styling; dry shampoo; thermal protection; hair spray.

Wavy:

Shampoo and conditioner without sulfates and parabens, preferably with nourishing oils in the composition; antifreeze agent; serum for hair ends; thermal protection; mousses / waxes / foams to emphasize the texture. The main rule when choosing a tool: what thinner hair, the easier the styling.

Curly:

Co-washing products that appeared on the market a couple of years ago. This is something like a hair wash conditioner - just what you need for strands that are prone to dryness. Alternate co-washing with regular shampoos; detangler, aka a hair detangler; oil; thermal protection; mousses / waxes / foams to emphasize the texture. And again: the thinner the hair, the easier it is for you to style.

And there's more important rule, which applies to all types of hair: if their length is below the jawline, you will need a mask, which should be used 1-2 times a week.

From left to right: Dual Fix 12, Envy Professional; Smoothing Shampoo Spring Loaded Frizz-Fighting Shampoo, Paul Mitchell; Dry shampoo Play Back, Matrix; Hair mask Masque Vital, La Biosthetique; Mousse for volume Bodifying Foam, Nioxin; Styling spray unruly hair Heat-Protective Control Mist, L'Occitane; Care-styling for density and volume at the roots High Rise Volume, Redken; Smoothing thermal fluid for hair Lisap Ultimate, Lisap Milano

People with experience

There are few African Americans in Russia, so the stylists do not really understand what to do with us. At the age of 16, my girlfriend and I decided to straighten my curls and burned them safely. I went to look for a master to fix the situation. Several refused me, but Alexander Todchuk saved me. He first gave my hair shape. Today I have two shampoos (for colored and dry hair), a mask, a thermal protection spray, and a shaping (or straightening) product in my arsenal. In the summer I hide from the sun, wear hats and panama hats so that my hair does not become even more dry.

If I dry my wavy hair with a blow dryer with a diffuser, adding a texture builder, I get a beach style effect. When it's humid outside or I'm somewhere on the sea, the hair itself folds into soft curls. Then I don't fit at all, and that's nice. Just oil and UV protection spray. In terms of care, I never forget that wavy hair is naturally dry, so I always have a mask or other moisturizing product with me. I choose shampoo based on the needs of the scalp. I love Kérastase Dermo Calm, it's soothing and my favorite styling is Redken.

I was born with curly hair and, according to my mother, long hair, but I went to school with straight lines. How and why this happened is unclear. I travel a lot and my hair reacts to climate change. Upon return, they become oily at the roots or, conversely, the scalp begins to dry. Literally every month I try something new, but there are still favorites! I feed tender feelings to L "Occitane, A" kin and Himalaya Herbals. From the latest discoveries - the Kérastase Cristal mask. When my hair gets frizzy, I use a shine spray and always style with a heat protectant.

Must meet if you keep our simple recommendations, soon your hair will lie no worse than that of the models that you see in the photographs for this material.

Straight hair If they are thick, styling should not be a problem at all. Wash your hair, apply thermal protection, dry with a towel or hair dryer and smooth out the strands with an iron. If the hair is thin and after such manipulations scatter in all directions, the cause of your troubles is most likely a haircut. Look for a master who can find correct hairstyle, given the shape of the head and face, its proportions. We recommend fixing the styling with varnish marked finish: such a product will also add extra shine.

Wavy hair Wash your hair, gently pat dry with a towel. Lowering it down, dry your hair with a hair dryer - this will save the basal volume. Then you can use tongs with a large diameter or large Velcro curlers. Dry your hair completely. Now remove the curlers, gently comb the strands with a brush and fix the styling with varnish.

Our sympathies for smooth and curly hair have changed each other strictly for decades. So, the straight strands of the hippies of the 1970s were replaced by an all-out passion for permanent waving and hairstyles in the style of Angela Davis. In the 1990s, curls went so out of fashion that even dark-skinned pop divas diligently straightened their strands. The era of the 2000s was softer and more diplomatic, but still welcomed curls and waves. Following this logic, today straight hair should again become relevant. But well-known hairdressers and stylists in unison declare that the texture of the hair is no longer attached special significance. “Naturality is in vogue – that is, curly hair should look even curlier, and straight hair even straighter,” says Eugene Souleiman, Global Creative Director of Care and Styling Wella Professionals. And she agrees with a smile that women, nevertheless, continue to strive for an image that is opposite to what is given to them by nature: “In any beauty salon you can see how a hairdresser conjures with an iron over the luxurious curls of one client, next to him, another master winds straight strands of the second on curlers. The eternal desire of a woman to change will not be eradicated by any trends.”

recalcitrant flesh

The curly or straight dilemma has more deep reasons, says sexologist Gerard Leleu: “In former centuries smooth hairstyle symbolized humility and virtue, and a rebellious mop of hair - sinfulness and violence of the flesh. Because curly strands are associated with pubic hair, and such associations are incompatible with the canonical image of female virtue. Let us recall the famous episode from Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre, when Pastor Brocklehurst demands to shave curly hair Julia Severn, Jane's classmate. “My mission is to kill the desires of the flesh in these girls, to teach them to maintain modesty and modesty ...” **

“Smooth hair is a sign of control over femininity, a symbol of restrained sensuality, the gentle submissiveness of a wife and the asexuality of a mother,” the sexologist continues. - That is, the attributes of those women who are "safe" for men. In more broad sense tamed curls speak of our fear of the body in its primitive, natural form. We hide its smells, remove hairs from the skin - and in the same way we strive to streamline the hairstyle. Just to in again demonstrate their power over nature.

Children's "horror stories"

Intervention in the structure of the hair is often caused by a desire to take revenge on them for the bitter resentment of childhood. How many tears have been shed over curls when you have to comb them every morning? How to forget offensive nicknames because of "rat tails" or nasty "icicles"? AT transitional age it is on the hair that the teenager unleashes the storm of his protest. For teenagers, the ability to change their hairstyle is a visible sign of independence and a way to become more attractive to the opposite sex. because of unrequited love and sometimes just because offensive word yesterday's curls replaces short haircut, pigtails - permanent waving, light brown tone - in best case platinum blonde, and in the most radical - Gothic blackness, the color of azure or fuchsia. But even after the extremes of puberty, the desire for cardinal change hairstyles at critical moments of life visits us often.

To twist or not to twist

“After changing the structure of their hair, my clients often say: “I feel like I was born again!” - says top stylist Jean-François Lazartigue, who was one of the first in France to develop hair straightening techniques. And she recalls a girl who “hated her hair so much that she even stopped washing it. I suggested she just straighten the strands. And do not believe it, after that she completely changed: she took up her mind, resumed her studies ... She literally felt like a different person!

The opportunity to intervene in what is given to us by nature gives a feeling of freedom: we can influence events and own life! But to change the shape of the nose, chest or hips, it takes a lot of time, effort and, of course, money. And changing hairstyles does not require such costs. With the help of simple devices (ironing irons, tongs, hair dryer ...), coupled with cosmetics you can quickly turn from a smooth-haired prude into a curly beast, and vice versa. you remembered about role playing dressing up in the bedroom? But after all, diversity can add brightness not only to sexual, but also to ordinary life.

** S. Bronte "Jane Eyre" (AST, 2011).

The problem of choosing between straight and wavy curls turns into a daily struggle for many of us. Owners of cute curls try to iron them to a glossy shine, and girls with straight hair tend to "catch the wave." Celebrities, on the other hand, do not bother about this and easily change their image so as not to get bored themselves and not to let their fans get bored. I propose to evaluate the stellar transformations and choose which of the images - with straight lines or curly hair- more suitable for each of the fashionistas.

What hairstyle and hair color Rihanna did not appear in public. Now the singer has settled on bright red hair, turning it into a shock of cheerful curls, then into a styling with straight hair. My choice in favor of long straight hair, because, firstly, I don’t really like lush afro curls, and secondly, color is better visible on straight hair.

The fans were just shocked when Taylor Swift straightened out her signature waves. In my opinion, curls are more suitable for the image of a country singer, so I opt for wavy hair.

It's difficult to imagine Sarah Jessica Parker without her signature curls, so I'm voting for them!

Nicole Kidman I like it with both curly and straight hair, but only in the blond version - with the red small curls that the actress wore at the beginning of her career, Nicole looks rustic.

And here is the perfect one!

I never liked messy hairstyle Shakira in the form of wavy fluffy hair, despite the fact that they are perfect for the stage image of the singer. And yet I prefer to see the singer (albeit rarely) with straight shiny curls - with them she looks very elegant.

I've always liked curled curls much more. beyoncé than her straightened hair...

…. but not at all inspiring new hairstyle, which the singer wears now.

Jessica Szohr first appeared in Gossip Girl with curly hair and ... I immediately did not like them. In my opinion, straight hair, twisted at the ends, suits the girl more - they give her elegance and class.

It's no secret that straight shiny hair create a strict elegant image. This is especially noticeable in the case Alisha Keys: true lady with straight hair and the girl next door with curls. My vote is for a true lady.

Rachel Weisz, who recently married Daniel Craig, is not often seen with straight hair - the actress usually curls her dark hair into natural large curls. It's hard for me to choose one thing, in my opinion, Rachel looks great with any hairstyle.

Hair is a big pride Jennifer Lopez and the diva knows perfectly well how to present herself in a favorable light, whether it be a shock of shiny curls or glossy strands.

However, there are times when J.Lo misses the hair and creates something strange. I have always believed that there is never too much volume. It turns out it happens...

With straight hair Leona Lewis looks like everyone else. Spiral curls— quite another matter!

Even the wavy hair gathered in the hairstyle Marion Cotillard look more spectacular and more natural than combed back straight strands. In addition, curls complete the image of a romantic sophisticated Frenchwoman.

In general, I really like Blake Lively's straight hair, but in this case they look dull and untidy. Yes, even this red tide!

In my opinion, perfect hairstyle Blake is light waves, an intermediate option between straight and curled hair. And what are those marks on the chest? Did someone grab something?

Aishvaria Rai- the owner of luxury thick hair. Whatever hairstyle the Bollywood star chooses, her hair looks chic. But I would opt for curls - they give the image of Aishwarya romance and softness.

Now future mommy Jessica Alba wears stylish bob, which looks good both in ironed form and with light natural waves. I can't even choose which option I like more. For help!

Unfortunately, Kristen Stewart cannot boast of the same luxurious hair, like her character Bella, but still the hair plays an important role in her image. I like wavy hair combed back. With straight Kristen looks simple and even casual.

Gauri Sidibe looks much better with straightened strands, because the curls give it too much full face even more volume.
