Hello, my name is Olya and I have an overhanging upper eyelid. Here one could refer to age, but no: it has always been like that. It's hereditary, everyone in my family has it. Even my nine-year-old son has such eyelids since birth - however, unlike me, this does not bother him at all.

I constantly try to disguise this fact somehow. There are tons of tutorials on YouTube for people like me, but for some reason they don't help me. Trying to pull off the creative rainbow makeup that's usually suggested there makes me look like a sad clown at best, a horror movie character at worst. I am one of those people who needs a clear and very simple instruction: step one, step two, step three - done!

So I decided to turn to a specialist who draws for me during all the shootings, and most importantly, he always explains very clearly what he is doing and why - Lena Motinova, international makeup artist for Estee Lauder.

This is what my eye looks like without makeup. Yes, I agree, the problem is not so large-scale as to seriously worry about it, but I see it! And when I paint my eyes, it becomes especially noticeable. As I found out - precisely because I'm doing everything wrong.

To begin with, we use the New Dimension modeling serum - on the entire face, including under the eyes. Then we prepare the base - apply Perfectionist foundation, remove bruises under the eyes with Double Wear BB Glow concealer (shade 01). After that, we paint the eyebrows: first we use the Brow Defining Pencil from the Brow Now collection (shade 02), then we use Volumizing Brow Tint mascara for the eyebrows (shade Blonde).

Error one. Use light shadows only on the protruding parts of the eyelids. Light shadows (we used the Quiet Power shade) must be applied to the entire moving eyelid, and not just to its convex part.

Error two. Applying dark shadows on a closed eye. This is the most important thing: dark shadows (we had mono-shadows Pure Color Envy Defining Eye Shadow, shade Amber Intrigue) draw a crease with the eye open. Lena: “The main problem is that people draw with their eyes closed, and this is wrong. Because then they open their eyes - and all the beauty goes into the crease of the eyelid. Here's what we do: we open our eyes, look straight ahead and imitate a crease on the upper eyelid with dark shadows - exactly in the place where we have the tips of the eyelashes. It turns out just above the place where the natural fold passes. Repeating the shape of the eyebrow, we work with a brush in the manner of car “wipers”: back and forth. It is necessary to repeat the shape of the eyebrow in order to divert attention from the contour of the falling eyelid, mask it and draw a new one. Then, of course, we need to shade our drawing well so that the border between the shades is not visible. And then the eye opens.

Error three. The use of pearlescent shadows in the crease of the eyelid. Satin and mother-of-pearl shadows are not suitable for this - only matte. Because any glare "eats" the color. The convex part of the eyes can be emphasized with any shadows.

Error four. Drawing with dark shadows of the entire crease of the eyelid. With an overhanging eyelid, the darkest shadows are in the crease we have drawn, from the middle of the eyebrow to its outer tip. If the eyelid is normal (envy!), The dark line can be continued to the inner corner of the eye.

Error five. Rejection of the pencil. Many do not use a pencil, being afraid to draw the shape of the eyelid too clearly - after all, it already seems imperfect. But everything is exactly the opposite: the eye immediately becomes bright, clearly defined. So with persistent Double Wear (shade Coffee), we draw the space between the eyelashes of the upper (and if you need a brighter make-up, then the lower) eyelid.

We open our eyes and this is what we get. Already now it is clear that the eyelid seems to have risen.

Now we apply Sumptuous Infinite mascara. Here, too, there is a trick. Paint over the eyelashes so as to lift them up. Everything is simple here: press the brush tightly to the eyelashes and pull them up. Then, holding it vertically, paint over each eyelash. Yes, it's long and tedious (and personally I'm always lazy!), but it's worth it. And also - use a primer for mascara: so it will last longer and not crumble.

Finish off with Pure Color Envy Lip Gloss in Suggestive Kiss and Pure Color Blush in Peach Passion.

Now we turn daytime makeup into evening. To do this, use the palette Pure Color Envy (Ivory Power). We apply the darkest shadows to our crease (not natural, but the one that we drew) on the outside of the eye and blend it well. That is, in fact, we just darken it - and do not add any other twenty shades. The simpler and more graphic the makeup is, the better it will look on the falling eyelid. The same dark shadows can bring the lower eyelid a little. Then - another layer of mascara, this time Sumptuous Extreme with the effect of false eyelashes or, in fact, the false eyelashes themselves.

To give the face a healthy tone (and not pale, as I usually do), use Bronze Goddess Bronzing Powder (shade 02).

But we apply eyeliner (we have Double Wear gel shade of Onyx). This is the hardest part. And here, as it turned out, was my huge mistake six: I tried to draw an arrow on a closed eye. Then I opened it - and did not find any arrow. To avoid this, here's what to do.

Draw the bottom line - where the eyelashes begin - on the closed eye.
Open your eye, look straight ahead and draw another line on the upper eyelid. It will start from a point just above the center of the pupil and end just above the natural corner of the eye. The main thing is that it be fully visible when the eye is open.
Close your eye, connect the top and bottom lines and paint over the space between them. Don't be afraid to overdo it with the width: most of it will go into the crease anyway when you open your eye.

In addition to eyeliner, we again used Double Wear long-lasting eyeliner (Coffee shade).

Feelings after: So that's what it was! And I thought that for the rest of my life I would admire the arrows, which, but at best. At home, I tried to portray everything that Lena advised. It turned out for me, as usual, crooked (therefore, I’m not ready to show the result yet), but, most importantly, I understood the principle. Indeed, if you draw an arrow on the open eyelid, it turns out to be noticeable, and the corners of the eyes do not fall even more. The same thing with shadows: if you draw a fold not quite where it actually is, but higher, then the eye visually “opens”. So now it remains just to fill your hand and learn how to paint your eyes not so crookedly. I hope I don't need another twenty years for this.

The cuts and shape of the eyes are very diverse, therefore, eye makeup should be done based on the individual structure of the eye and facial features in order to emphasize the dignity, highlight the main thing.
