How is Agriculture Day celebrated in Belarus? Day of the Food Worker (Day of Food Industry Workers) When is the day of the food industry in Belarus.

On the third Sunday of November (in 2019 - November 17) the Day of Agriculture will be celebrated in Belarus. The time of the celebration was not chosen by chance: it falls on the end of the harvest.

How is the Day of Agricultural Worker in Belarus celebrated?

According to the established tradition, the Day of Agricultural Workers is celebrated quite widely in Belarus. It is considered their own not only by rural workers - grain growers, machine operators, livestock breeders, but also by specialists who work at food processing and storage enterprises, as well as students and teachers of specialized departments of universities and secondary specialized institutions.

Agricultural workers are congratulated by the President of the country, the best specialists are awarded certificates of honor and prizes, honorary titles are conferred.

Agrarians sum up their work and outline the ways for the development of the industry, making plans for the future. Fairs are organized at which crop and livestock breeders present their products. Concerts are held, festivities are organized in many settlements.

History and traditions of the Day of Agriculture in Belarus

The history of this holiday goes back several decades. It began to be celebrated back in the Soviet period after on November 1, 1988, by Decree of the Presidium of the USSR Armed Forces No. 9724-XI “On Amending the Legislation of the USSR on Holidays and Memorable Days”, two professional holidays dedicated to meliorators and agricultural workers were merged into one.

This tradition was not interrupted even after the collapse of the USSR. In 1995, by the Decree of the President of the Republic, the Day of Agriculture and Processing Industry of the Agro-Industrial Complex of Belarus was established. In 1998, its establishment was confirmed by the decree "On public holidays, holidays and memorable dates in the Republic of Belarus".

On the Day of Agricultural Workers in Belarus, we remember that the agricultural sector is one of the most developed and productive sectors of the economy of this country. For centuries, agriculture has been one of the main occupations of Belarusians.

Currently, Belarus is one of the leaders among the countries of the post-Soviet space in terms of production of the main types of agricultural products (grain, potatoes, vegetables, sugar beet and flax, milk, livestock meat and poultry), and in some indicators it approaches the level of developed countries.

Over the past decades, the agricultural sector has achieved significant results. Here are some data illustrating his condition. 23% of the population of Belarus lives in rural areas, 9.7% of the population (about 330 thousand people) is employed in the agricultural sector.

It is not surprising that the Belarusian trade union of workers of the agro-industrial complex is one of the largest branch trade unions in this state. Agriculture in Belarus provides 7.5% of the country's GDP, 17.1% of investment in fixed assets.

This industry satisfies the needs of the local population in food products by more than 80%, while 100% - the need for meat, milk, eggs, almost 100% - in potatoes and vegetables. A large number of products are shipped abroad, the vast majority of exports go to the Russian market.

Agriculture Day in Belarus is also an occasion to remember that much attention is paid to the development of this industry. In a country where there is no private ownership of land, large farms (former state farms and collective farms) receive significant financial support from the state.

A large-scale state program for the development of the Belarusian countryside is being implemented. The priority direction of the development of the agro-industrial complex is large-scale production. Due to the re-equipment and modernization of many enterprises in recent years, labor productivity has tripled; the range of food products has expanded significantly and their quality has improved.

There are five scientific and practical centers of the National Academy of Sciences in Belarus - for agriculture, potato and fruit and vegetable growing, animal husbandry, food, agricultural mechanization. These organizations include scientific and design institutes, experimental and production enterprises.

The quality of products is ensured by numerous veterinary and quarantine services, plant protection services, variety testing organizations.

Several universities (Belarusian State Agrarian Technical University, Belarusian Agricultural Academy, Grodno Agrarian University, etc.) and specialized secondary specialized educational institutions are engaged in training personnel for agricultural enterprises.

Despite significant achievements, the industry is experiencing a number of problems that need to be addressed: in particular, labor productivity in Belarus still lags behind the indicators of developed countries, the agricultural sector is inferior in yield compared to the countries of Western Europe and the USA.

On the Day of Agriculture in Belarus, we congratulate the specialists of this industry on their professional holiday, wish them success in their work and personal happiness. It remains for us to add that the Day of Celebration of Agricultural Workers in Ukraine and Kazakhstan falls on the same date.

Every year on the third Sunday of November, Belarus celebrates a professional holiday - the Day of Agricultural and Processing Industry Workers of the Agro-Industrial Complex (AIC), established by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus on November 10, 1995.

On this Day, congratulations are received by all workers in these industries, whose hard work and professionalism ensure the food security of the country and the standard of living of the people. The achievements of the agro-industrial complex are the merit of both ordinary workers who cultivate the land and grow bread, vegetables and fruits, produce milk and meat, food products, “deliver” the entire harvest to the table of consumers, and specialists in this industry - managers, agricultural scientists , workers in the socio-cultural sphere in the countryside. Agriculture is one of the most important sectors of the national economy in most states, including the Republic of Belarus, which has centuries-old agricultural traditions. For centuries, agriculture has been one of the main occupations of Belarusians and currently plays a significant role in the country's economy.

Today, agriculture in Belarus provides 7.5% of the country's GDP, 17.1% of investment in fixed assets, 9.7% of the population is employed in the industry, and 23% of the country's population lives in rural areas. Therefore, it is no coincidence that significant funds are allocated for the development of the agricultural sector in Belarus. The main types of agricultural products are grain, potatoes, vegetables, sugar beet and flax, milk, meat, livestock and poultry. Agricultural organizations, peasant (farm) enterprises that produce about 78% of agricultural sector products, as well as the population work in the industry. Large farms (former state farms and collective farms) dominate, receiving multibillion-dollar state support and subsidies. At the same time, most of the potatoes and vegetables are produced by private farms. Large-scale production has been and remains a priority direction for the development of the agro-industrial complex. Currently, Belarus is one of the leaders among the countries of the post-Soviet space in terms of production volumes of the main types of agricultural products. To increase the efficiency of animal husbandry, livestock breeding complexes are being re-equipped and reconstructed, and new farms are being built. I work in poultry farms and enterprises of bakery products and the meat and dairy industry. Over the past five years, labor productivity in the industry has tripled. It is fully provided with raw materials and the processing industry is intensively developing. The range of food products is expanding and their quality is improving. More than 80% of the population's needs for food products are met by domestic production. And significant amounts of food produced in the country are exported to different countries of the world.

Every year Ukraine and Russia celebrate the Day of Food Industry Workers. It's no secret that recently in many countries the issue of food has been particularly acute. While in developed countries people sometimes spend several thousand dollars on food, in poor and partly in developing countries, citizens have nothing to buy food. With all this, thanks to the professionalism of food industry workers, the range and quality of products are constantly growing, and the responsibility for the safety of food consumed is also growing.

The Day of Food Industry Workers arose a long time ago - back in the days of the Soviet Union, or rather, in 1966. Now, as then, people involved in the food industry celebrate their holiday on the third Sunday in October.

I wish all food workers
